Chapter 4
1 John 4
Beloued, beleeue not euery spirit, but trie the spirits, whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
GenevaDearely beloued, beleeue not euery spirit, but trie the spirits whether they are of God: for many false prophets are gone out into this worlde.
Hereby know ye the spirit of God: euery spirit that confesseth that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God.
GenevaHereby shall ye know the Spirit of God, Euery spirit which confesseth that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh, is of God.
And euery Spirit that confesseth not that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God: and this is that spirit of Antichrist, whereof you haue heard, that it should come, and euen now already is it in the world.
GenevaAnd euery spirit that confesseth not that Iesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God: but this is the spirit of Antichrist, of whome ye haue heard, how that he should come, and nowe already he is in this world.
Ye are of God, little children, and haue ouercome them: because greater is he that is in you, then he that is in the world.
GenevaLitle children, ye are of God, and haue ouercome them: for greater is he that is in you, then he that is in this world.
They are of the world: therefore speake they of the world, and the world heareth them.
GenevaThey are of this worlde, therefore speake they of this world, and this world heareth them.
We are of God: hee that knoweth God, heareth vs: he that is not of God heareth not vs, hereby know wee the spirit of trueth, and the spirit of errour.
GenevaWe are of God, he that knoweth God, heareth vs: he that is not of God, heareth vs not. Heereby knowe wee the spirit of trueth, and the spirit of errour.
Beloued, let vs loue one another; for loue is of God: and euery one that loueth, is borne of God and knoweth God.
GenevaBeloued, let vs loue one another: for loue commeth of God, and euery one that loueth, is borne of God, and knoweth God.
Hee that loueth not, knoweth not God: for God is loue.
GenevaHee that loueth not, knoweth not God: for God is loue.
In this was manifested the loue of God towards vs, because that God sent his only begotten Sonne into the world, that we might liue through him.
GenevaHerein was that loue of God made manifest amongst vs, because God sent that his onely begotten sonne into this world, that we might liue through him.
Herein is loue, not that wee loued God, but that he loued vs, and sent his Sonne to be þ propitiation for our sins.
GenevaHerein is that loue, not that we loued God, but that he loued vs, and sent his Sonne to be a reconciliation for our sinnes.
Beloued, if God so loued vs, wee ought also to loue one another.
GenevaBeloued, if God so loued vs, we ought also to loue one another.
No man hath seene God at any time. If wee loue one another, God dwelleth in vs, and his loue is perfected in vs.
GenevaNo man hath seene God at any time. If we loue one another, God dwelleth in vs, and his loue is perfect in vs.
Hereby know wee that we dwell in him and he in vs, because hee hath giuen vs of his Spirit.
GenevaHereby know we, that we dwell in him, and he in vs: because he hath giuen vs of his Spirit.
And we haue seene, and doe testifie, that the Father sent the Sonne to be the Sauiour of the world.
GenevaAnd we haue seene, and doe testifie, that the Father sent that Sonne to be ye Sauiour of the world.
Whosoeuer shall confesse that Iesus is the Sonne of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
GenevaWhosoeuer confesseth that Iesus is the Sone of God, in him dwelleth God, and he in God.
And we haue knowen and beleeued the loue that God hath to vs. God is loue, and hee that dwelleth in loue, dwelleth in God, and God in him.
GenevaAnd we haue knowen, and beleeued ye loue that God hath in vs. God is loue, and he that dwelleth in loue, dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Herein is our loue made perfect, that wee may haue boldnesse in the day of Iudgement, because as hee is, so are we in this world.
GenevaHerein is that loue perfect in vs, that we should haue boldnes in the day of iudgement: for as he is, euen so are we in this world.
There is no feare in loue, but perfect loue casteth out feare: because feare hath torment: hee that feareth, is not made perfect in loue.
GenevaThere is no feare in loue, but perfect loue casteth out feare: for feare hath painefulnesse: and he that feareth, is not perfect in loue.
We loue him: because hee first loued vs.
GenevaWe loue him, because he loued vs first.
If a man say, I loue God, and hateth his brother, he is a lyar. For hee that loueth not his brother whom hee hath seene, how can he loue God whom he hath not seene?
GenevaIf any man say, I loue God, and hate his brother, he is a liar: for how can he that loueth not his brother whom he hath seene, loue God whom he hath not seene?
And this commandement haue we from him, that he who loueth God, loue his brother also.
GenevaAnd this commandement haue we of him, that he that loueth God, should loue his brother also.
