Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Iesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy, hath begotten vs againe vnto a liuely hope, by the resurrection of Iesus Christ from the dead,
GenevaBlessed bee God, euen the Father of our Lord Iesus Christ, which according to his aboundant mercie hath begotten vs againe vnto a liuely hope by the resurrection of Iesus Christ from the dead,
To an inheritance incorruptible, and vndefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserued in heauen for you,
GenevaTo an inheritance immortall and vndefiled, and that withereth not, reserued in heauen for vs,
Who are kept by the power of God through faith vnto saluation, ready to be reuealed in the last time.
GenevaWhich are kept by the power of God through faith vnto saluation, which is prepared to be shewed in the last time.
Wherin ye greatly reioyce, though now for a season (if neede bee) yee are in heauinesse through manifolde temptations:
GenevaWherein yee reioyce, though nowe for a season (if neede require) yee are in heauinesse, through manifolde tentations,
That the triall of your faith, being much more precious then of golde that perisheth, though it bee tryed with fire, might be found vnto praise, and honor, and glory, at the appearing of Iesus Christ:
GenevaThat the triall of your faith, being much more precious then golde that perisheth (though it be tried with fire) might bee founde vnto your praise, and honour and glorie at the appearing of Iesus Christ:
Whom hauing not seene, yee loue, in whom though now ye see him not, yet beleeuing, ye reioyce with ioy vnspeakeable, and full of glory,
GenevaWhome yee haue not seene, and yet loue him, in whome nowe, though yee see him not, yet doe you beleeue, and reioyce with ioy vnspeakeable and glorious,
Receiuing the ende of your faith, euen the saluation of your soules:
GenevaReceiuing the ende of your faith, euen the saluation of your soules.
Of which saluation the Prophets haue inquired, and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come vnto you,
GenevaOf the which saluation ye Prophets haue inquired and searched, which prophecied of the grace that should come vnto you,
Searching what, or what maner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signifie, when it testified beforehand the suffrings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
GenevaSearching when or what time the Spirite which testified before of Christ which was in them, shoulde declare the sufferings that should come vnto Christ, and the glorie that shoulde follow.
Unto whome it was reuealed, that not vnto themselues, but vnto vs, they did minister the things which are now reported vnto you, by them that haue preached the Gospel vnto you, with the holy Ghost sent downe from heauen, which things the Angels desire to looke into.
GenevaVnto whome it was reueiled, that not vnto themselues, but vnto vs they shoulde minister the things, which are nowe shewed vnto you by them which haue preached vnto you the Gospell by the holy Ghost sent downe from heauen, the which things the Angels desire to beholde.
Wherefore gird vp the loynes of your minde, bee sober, and hope to the end, for the grace that is to bee brought vnto you at the reuelation of Iesus Christ:
GenevaWherefore, girde vp the Ioynes of your minde: bee sober, and trust perfectly on that grace that is brought vnto you, in the reuelation of Iesus Christ,
As obedient children, not fashioning your selues according to the former lusts, in your ignorance:
GenevaAs obedient children, not fashioning your selues vnto the former lustes of your ignorance:
But as hee which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all maner of conuersation;
GenevaBut as hee which hath called you, is holie, so be yee holie in all maner of conuersation;
Because it is written, Be ye holy, for I am holy.
GenevaBecause it is written, Be yee holie, for I am holie.
And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons iudgeth according to euery mans worke, passe the time of your soiourning here in feare:
GenevaAnd if ye call him Father, which without respect of person iudgeth according to euery mans woorke, passe the time of your dwelling here in feare,
For as much as ye know that yee were not redeemed with corruptible things, as siluer and golde, from your vaine conuersation receiued by tradition from your fathers;
GenevaKnowing that yee were not redeemed with corruptible things, as siluer and golde, from your vaine conuersation, receiued by the traditions of the fathers,
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lambe without blemish and without spot,
GenevaBut with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lambe vndefiled, and without spot.
Who verily was foreordeined before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.
GenevaWhich was ordeined before the foundation of the world, but was declared in the last times for your sakes,
Who by him do beleeue in God that raised him vp from the dead, and gaue him glorie, that your faith and hope might be in God.
GenevaWhich by his meanes doe beleeue in God that raised him from the dead, and gaue him glorie, that your faith and hope might bee in God,
Seeing yee haue purified your soules in obeying the truth through the Spirit, vnto vnfained loue of the brethren: see that ye loue one another with a pure heart feruently,
GenevaHauing purified your soules in obeying the trueth through the spirite, to loue brotherly without faining, loue one another with a pure heart feruently,
Being borne againe, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God which liueth and abideth for euer.
GenevaBeing borne anewe, not of mortall seede, but of immortall, by the woorde of God, who liueth and endureth for euer.
For all flesh is as grasse, and all the glory of man as the flowre of grasse: the grasse withereth, and the flowre thereof falleth away.
GenevaFor all flesh is as grasse, and all the glorie of man is as the flower of grasse. The grasse withereth, and the flower falleth away.
But the word of the Lord endureth for euer: & this is the word which by the Gospel is preached vnto you.
GenevaBut the worde of the Lord endureth for euer: and this is the woorde which is preached among you.
