1 Samuel 2
And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart reioyceth in the LORD, mine horne is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is inlarged ouer mine enemies: because I reioyce in thy saluation.

וַ/תִּתְפַּלֵּ֤ל חַנָּה֙ וַ/תֹּאמַ֔ר עָלַ֤ץ לִבִּ/י֙ בַּֽ/יהוָ֔ה רָ֥מָה קַרְנִ֖/י בַּֽ/יהוָ֑ה רָ֤חַב פִּ/י֙ עַל א֣וֹיְבַ֔/י כִּ֥י שָׂמַ֖חְתִּי בִּ/ישׁוּעָתֶֽ/ךָ
There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any Rocke like our God.
GenevaThere is none holy as the Lord: yea, there is none besides thee, and there is no god like our God.
אֵין קָד֥וֹשׁ כַּ/יהוָ֖ה כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין בִּלְתֶּ֑/ךָ וְ/אֵ֥ין צ֖וּר כֵּ/אלֹהֵֽי/נוּ
Talke no more so exceeding proudly, let not arrogancie come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.
GenevaSpeake no more presumptuously: let not arrogancie come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him enterprises are established.
אַל תַּרְבּ֤וּ תְדַבְּרוּ֙ גְּבֹהָ֣ה גְבֹהָ֔ה יֵצֵ֥א עָתָ֖ק מִ/פִּי/כֶ֑ם כִּ֣י אֵ֤ל דֵּעוֹת֙ יְהוָ֔ה ו/לא נִתְכְּנ֖וּ עֲלִלֽוֹת
The vowes of the mightie men are broken, and they that stumbled are girt with strength.
GenevaThe bow and the mightie men are broken, and the weake haue girded themselues with strength.
קֶ֥שֶׁת גִּבֹּרִ֖ים חַתִּ֑ים וְ/נִכְשָׁלִ֖ים אָ֥זְרוּ חָֽיִל
They that were full, haue hired out themselues for bread: and they that were hungry, ceased: so that the barren hath borne seuen, and she that hath many children, is waxed feeble.
GenevaThey that were full, are hired foorth for bread, and the hungrie are no more hired, so that the barren hath borne seuen: and shee that had many children, is feeble.
שְׂבֵעִ֤ים בַּ/לֶּ֨חֶם֙ נִשְׂכָּ֔רוּ וּ/רְעֵבִ֖ים חָדֵ֑לּוּ עַד עֲקָרָה֙ יָלְדָ֣ה שִׁבְעָ֔ה וְ/רַבַּ֥ת בָּנִ֖ים אֻמְלָֽלָה
The LORD killeth and maketh aliue, he bringeth downe to the graue, and bringeth vp.
GenevaThe Lord killeth and maketh aliue: bringeth downe to the graue and raiseth vp.
יְהוָ֖ה מֵמִ֣ית וּ/מְחַיֶּ֑ה מוֹרִ֥יד שְׁא֖וֹל וַ/יָּֽעַל
The LORD maketh poore, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth vp.
GenevaThe Lord maketh poore and maketh rich: bringeth lowe, and exalteth.
יְהוָ֖ה מוֹרִ֣ישׁ וּ/מַעֲשִׁ֑יר מַשְׁפִּ֖יל אַף מְרוֹמֵֽם
He raiseth vp the poore out of the dust, and lifteth vp the begger from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORDs, and hee hath set the world vpon them.

מֵקִ֨ים מֵ/עָפָ֜ר דָּ֗ל מֵֽ/אַשְׁפֹּת֙ יָרִ֣ים אֶבְי֔וֹן לְ/הוֹשִׁיב֙ עִם נְדִיבִ֔ים וְ/כִסֵּ֥א כָב֖וֹד יַנְחִלֵ֑/ם כִּ֤י לַֽ/יהוָה֙ מְצֻ֣קֵי אֶ֔רֶץ וַ/יָּ֥שֶׁת עֲלֵי/הֶ֖ם תֵּבֵֽל
He will keepe the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall bee silent in darkenesse; for by strength shall no man preuaile.
GenevaHee will keepe the feete of his Saintes, and the wicked shall keepe silence in darkenes: for in his owne might shall no man be strong.
רַגְלֵ֤י חסיד/ו יִשְׁמֹ֔ר וּ/רְשָׁעִ֖ים בַּ/חֹ֣שֶׁךְ יִדָּ֑מּוּ כִּֽי לֹ֥א בְ/כֹ֖חַ יִגְבַּר אִֽישׁ
The aduersaries of the LORD shalbe broken to pieces: out of heauen shal he thunder vpon them: the LORD shall iudge the ends of the earth, and he shal giue strength vnto his king, and exalt the horne of his Anointed.
GenevaThe Lordes aduersaries shall be destroyed, and out of heauen shall he thunder vpon them: the Lord shall iudge the endes of the worlde, and shall giue power vnto his King, and exalt the horne of his Anoynted.
יְהוָ֞ה יֵחַ֣תּוּ מריב/ו על/ו בַּ/שָּׁמַ֣יִם יַרְעֵ֔ם יְהוָ֖ה יָדִ֣ין אַפְסֵי אָ֑רֶץ וְ/יִתֶּן עֹ֣ז לְ/מַלְכּ֔/וֹ וְ/יָרֵ֖ם קֶ֥רֶן מְשִׁיחֽ/וֹ
And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house, and the child did minister vnto the LORD before Eli the Priest.

וַ/יֵּ֧לֶךְ אֶלְקָנָ֛ה הָ/רָמָ֖תָ/ה עַל בֵּית֑/וֹ וְ/הַ/נַּ֗עַר הָיָ֤ה מְשָׁרֵת֙ אֶת יְהוָ֔ה אֶת פְּנֵ֖י עֵלִ֥י הַ/כֹּהֵֽן
¶ Now the sonnes of Eli were sonnes of Belial, they knewe not the LORD.
GenevaNow the sonnes of Eli were wicked men, and knewe not the Lord.
וּ/בְנֵ֥י עֵלִ֖י בְּנֵ֣י בְלִיָּ֑עַל לֹ֥א יָדְע֖וּ אֶת יְהוָֽה
And the priests custome with the people was, that when any man offred sacrifice, the priestes seruant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhooke of three teeth in his hand,

וּ/מִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֖ים אֶת הָ/עָ֑ם כָּל אִ֞ישׁ זֹבֵ֣חַ זֶ֗בַח וּ/בָ֨א נַ֤עַר הַ/כֹּהֵן֙ כְּ/בַשֵּׁ֣ל הַ/בָּשָׂ֔ר וְ/הַ/מַּזְלֵ֛ג שְׁלֹ֥שׁ הַ/שִּׁנַּ֖יִם בְּ/יָדֽ/וֹ
And he strooke it into the panne, or kettle, or caldron, or pot: all that the flesh-hooke brought vp, the priest tooke for himselfe: so they did in Shiloh vnto all the Israelites that came thither.

וְ/הִכָּ֨ה בַ/כִּיּ֜וֹר א֣וֹ בַ/דּ֗וּד א֤וֹ בַ/קַּלַּ֨חַת֙ א֣וֹ בַ/פָּר֔וּר כֹּ֚ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַעֲלֶ֣ה הַ/מַּזְלֵ֔ג יִקַּ֥ח הַ/כֹּהֵ֖ן בּ֑/וֹ כָּ֚כָה יַעֲשׂ֣וּ לְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַ/בָּאִ֥ים שָׁ֖ם בְּ/שִׁלֹֽה
Also before they burnt the fat, the priests seruant came, & said to the man that sacrificed, Giue flesh to roste for the priest, for he wil not haue sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

גַּם֮ בְּ/טֶרֶם֮ יַקְטִר֣וּ/ן אֶת הַ/חֵלֶב֒ וּ/בָ֣א נַ֣עַר הַ/כֹּהֵ֗ן וְ/אָמַר֙ לָ/אִ֣ישׁ הַ/זֹּבֵ֔חַ תְּנָ֣/ה בָשָׂ֔ר לִ/צְל֖וֹת לַ/כֹּהֵ֑ן וְ/לֹֽא יִקַּ֧ח מִמְּ/ךָ֛ בָּשָׂ֥ר מְבֻשָּׁ֖ל כִּ֥י אִם חָֽי
And if any man said vnto him, Let them not faile to burne the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soule desireth: then hee would answere him, Nay, but thou shalt giue it mee now: and if not, I will take it by force.
GenevaAnd if any man saide vnto him, Let them burne the fatte according to the custome, then take as much as thine heart desireth: then hee would answere, No, but thou shalt giue it nowe: and if thou wilt not, I will take it by force.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜י/ו הָ/אִ֗ישׁ קַטֵּ֨ר יַקְטִיר֤וּ/ן כַּ/יּוֹם֙ הַ/חֵ֔לֶב וְ/קַ֨ח לְ/ךָ֔ כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּאַוֶּ֖ה נַפְשֶׁ֑/ךָ וְ/אָמַ֥ר ל/ו כִּ֚י עַתָּ֣ה תִתֵּ֔ן וְ/אִם לֹ֖א לָקַ֥חְתִּי בְ/חָזְקָֽה
Wherefore the sinne of the yong men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

וַ/תְּהִ֨י חַטַּ֧את הַ/נְּעָרִ֛ים גְּדוֹלָ֥ה מְאֹ֖ד אֶת פְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֤י נִֽאֲצוּ֙ הָֽ/אֲנָשִׁ֔ים אֵ֖ת מִנְחַ֥ת יְהוָֽה
¶ But Samuel ministred before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linnen Ephod.

Moreouer, his mother made him a litle coate, and brought it to him from yeere to yeere, when she came vp with her husband, to offer the yeerely sacrifice.

¶ And Eli blessed Elkanah, and his wife, and said, The LORD giue thee seed of this woman, for the loane which is lent to the LORD. And they went vnto their owne home.

וּ/בֵרַ֨ךְ עֵלִ֜י אֶת אֶלְקָנָ֣ה וְ/אֶת אִשְׁתּ֗/וֹ וְ/אָמַר֙ יָשֵׂם֩ יְהוָ֨ה לְ/ךָ֥ זֶ֨רַע֙ מִן הָ/אִשָּׁ֣ה הַ/זֹּ֔את תַּ֚חַת הַ/שְּׁאֵלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁאַ֖ל לַֽ/יהוָ֑ה וְ/הָלְכ֖וּ לִ/מְקֹמֽ/וֹ
And the LORD visited Hannah, so that shee conceiued, and bare three sonnes, and two daughters: and the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

כִּֽי פָקַ֤ד יְהוָה֙ אֶת חַנָּ֔ה וַ/תַּ֛הַר וַ/תֵּ֥לֶד שְׁלֹשָֽׁה בָנִ֖ים וּ/שְׁתֵּ֣י בָנ֑וֹת וַ/יִּגְדַּ֛ל הַ/נַּ֥עַר שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל עִם יְהוָֽה
¶ Now Eli was very olde, and heard all that his sonnes did vnto all Israel, and how they lay with the women that assembled at the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregation

וְ/עֵלִ֖י זָקֵ֣ן מְאֹ֑ד וְ/שָׁמַ֗ע אֵת֩ כָּל אֲשֶׁ֨ר יַעֲשׂ֤וּ/ן בָּנָי/ו֙ לְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְ/אֵ֤ת אֲשֶֽׁר יִשְׁכְּבוּ/ן֙ אֶת הַ/נָּשִׁ֔ים הַ/צֹּ֣בְא֔וֹת פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד
And he said vnto them, Why doe ye such things? for I heare of your euil dealings, by all this people.
GenevaAnd hee saide vnto them, Why doe ye such things? for of all this people I heare euill reportes of you.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר לָ/הֶ֔ם לָ֥/מָּה תַעֲשׂ֖וּ/ן כַּ/דְּבָרִ֣ים הָ/אֵ֑לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֤י שֹׁמֵ֨עַ֙ אֶת דִּבְרֵי/כֶ֣ם רָעִ֔ים מֵ/אֵ֖ת כָּל הָ/עָ֥ם אֵֽלֶּה
Nay my sonnes: for it is no good report that I heare; yee make the LORDs people to transgresse.
GenevaDo no more, my sonnes, for it is no good report that I heare, which is, that ye make the Lords people to trespasse.
אַ֖ל בָּנָ֑/י כִּ֠י לֽוֹא טוֹבָ֤ה הַ/שְּׁמֻעָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָנֹכִ֣י שֹׁמֵ֔עַ מַעֲבִרִ֖ים עַם יְהוָֽה
If one man sinne against another, the Iudge shall iudge him: but if a man sinne against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not vnto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

אִם יֶחֱטָ֨א אִ֤ישׁ לְ/אִישׁ֙ וּ/פִֽלְל֣/וֹ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְ/אִ֤ם לַֽ/יהוָה֙ יֶֽחֱטָא אִ֔ישׁ מִ֖י יִתְפַּלֶּל ל֑/וֹ וְ/לֹ֤א יִשְׁמְעוּ֙ לְ/ק֣וֹל אֲבִי/הֶ֔ם כִּֽי חָפֵ֥ץ יְהוָ֖ה לַ/הֲמִיתָֽ/ם
(And the child Samuel grew on, and was in fauour, both with the LORD, and also with men.)
Geneva(Nowe the childe Samuel profited and grewe, and was in fauour both with the Lord and also with men)
וְ/הַ/נַּ֣עַר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל הֹלֵ֥ךְ וְ/גָדֵ֖ל וָ/ט֑וֹב גַּ֚ם עִם יְהוָ֔ה וְ/גַ֖ם עִם אֲנָשִֽׁים
¶ And there came a man of God vnto Eli, and saide vnto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainely appeare vnto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaohs house?

וַ/יָּבֹ֥א אִישׁ אֱלֹהִ֖ים אֶל עֵלִ֑י וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֗י/ו כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הֲ/נִגְלֹ֤ה נִגְלֵ֨יתִי֙ אֶל בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֔י/ךָ בִּֽ/הְיוֹתָ֥/ם בְּ/מִצְרַ֖יִם לְ/בֵ֥ית פַּרְעֹֽה
And did I chuse him out of all the tribes of Israel, to be my Priest, to offer vpon mine altar, to burne incense, to weare an Ephod before me? and did I giue vnto the house of thy father, all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

וּ/בָחֹ֣ר אֹ֠ת/וֹ מִ/כָּל שִׁבְטֵ֨י יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל לִ/י֙ לְ/כֹהֵ֔ן לַ/עֲל֣וֹת עַֽל מִזְבְּחִ֗/י לְ/הַקְטִ֥יר קְטֹ֛רֶת לָ/שֵׂ֥את אֵפ֖וֹד לְ/פָנָ֑/י וָֽ/אֶתְּנָ/ה֙ לְ/בֵ֣ית אָבִ֔י/ךָ אֶת כָּל אִשֵּׁ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
Wherefore kicke ye at my sacrifice, and at mine offering, which I haue commaunded in my habitation, and honourest thy sonnes aboue mee, to make your selues fat with the chiefest of all the offrings of Israel my people?

לָ֣/מָּה תִבְעֲט֗וּ בְּ/זִבְחִ/י֙ וּ/בְ/מִנְחָתִ֔/י אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֖יתִי מָע֑וֹן וַ/תְּכַבֵּ֤ד אֶת בָּנֶ֨י/ךָ֙ מִמֶּ֔/נִּי לְ/הַבְרִֽיאֲ/כֶ֗ם מֵ/רֵאשִׁ֛ית כָּל מִנְחַ֥ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְ/עַמִּֽ/י
Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I sayd indeede that thy house, & the house of thy father should walke before me for euer: but now the LORD saith, Be it farre from mee; for them that honour me, I will honour, and they that despise me, shall be lightly esteemed.

לָ/כֵ֗ן נְאֻם יְהוָה֮ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ אָמ֣וֹר אָמַ֔רְתִּי בֵּֽיתְ/ךָ֙ וּ/בֵ֣ית אָבִ֔י/ךָ יִתְהַלְּכ֥וּ לְ/פָנַ֖/י עַד עוֹלָ֑ם וְ/עַתָּ֤ה נְאֻם יְהוָה֙ חָלִ֣ילָ/ה לִּ֔/י כִּֽי מְכַבְּדַ֥/י אֲכַבֵּ֖ד וּ/בֹזַ֥/י יֵקָֽלּוּ
Behold, the dayes come, that I will cut off thine arme, and the arme of thy fathers house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

הִנֵּה֙ יָמִ֣ים בָּאִ֔ים וְ/גָֽדַעְתִּי֙ אֶת זְרֹ֣עֲ/ךָ֔ וְ/אֶת זְרֹ֖עַ בֵּ֣ית אָבִ֑י/ךָ מִֽ/הְי֥וֹת זָקֵ֖ן בְּ/בֵיתֶֽ/ךָ
And thou shalt see an enemie in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall giue Israel, and there shall not bee an olde man in thine house for euer.
GenevaAnd thou shalt see thine enemie in the habitation of the Lord in all thinges wherewith God shall blesse Israel, and there shall not be an olde man in thine house for euer.
וְ/הִבַּטְתָּ֙ צַ֣ר מָע֔וֹן בְּ/כֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר יֵיטִ֖יב אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְ/לֹֽא יִהְיֶ֥ה זָקֵ֛ן בְּ/בֵיתְ/ךָ֖ כָּל הַ/יָּמִֽים
And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine Altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieue thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the floure of their age.
GenevaNeuerthelesse, I will not destroy euery one of thine from mine altar, to make thine eyes to faile, and to make thine heart sorowfull: and all ye multitude of thine house shall die when they be men.
וְ/אִ֗ישׁ לֹֽא אַכְרִ֤ית לְ/ךָ֙ מֵ/עִ֣ם מִזְבְּחִ֔/י לְ/כַלּ֥וֹת אֶת עֵינֶ֖י/ךָ וְ/לַ/אֲדִ֣יב אֶת נַפְשֶׁ֑/ךָ וְ/כָל מַרְבִּ֥ית בֵּיתְ/ךָ֖ יָמ֥וּתוּ אֲנָשִֽׁים
And this shall bee a signe vnto thee, that shall come vpon thy two sonnes, on Hophni and Phinehas: in one day they shall die both of them.

וְ/זֶה לְּ/ךָ֣ הָ/א֗וֹת אֲשֶׁ֤ר יָבֹא֙ אֶל שְׁנֵ֣י בָנֶ֔י/ךָ אֶל חָפְנִ֖י וּ/פִֽינְחָ֑ס בְּ/י֥וֹם אֶחָ֖ד יָמ֥וּתוּ שְׁנֵי/הֶֽם
And I will raise me vp a faithfull Priest, that shall doe according to that which is in my heart and in my mind, and I will build him a sure house, and hee shall walke before mine Anointed for euer.
GenevaAnd I will stirre me vp a faithfull Priest, that shall do according to mine heart and according to my minde: and I wil build him a sure house, and he shall walke before mine Anointed for euer.
וַ/הֲקִימֹתִ֥י לִ/י֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן נֶאֱמָ֔ן כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֛ר בִּ/לְבָבִ֥/י וּ/בְ/נַפְשִׁ֖/י יַעֲשֶׂ֑ה וּ/בָנִ֤יתִי ל/וֹ֙ בַּ֣יִת נֶאֱמָ֔ן וְ/הִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ לִ/פְנֵֽי מְשִׁיחִ֖/י כָּל הַ/יָּמִֽים
And it shall come to passe, that euery one that is left in thine house, shal come and crouch to him for a piece of siluer, and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me (I pray thee) into one of the Priests offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.
GenevaAnd all that are left in thine house, shall come and bowe downe to him for a piece of siluer and a morsell of bread, and shall say, Appoint me, I pray thee, to one of the priestes offices, that I may eate a morsell of bread.
וְ/הָיָ֗ה כָּל הַ/נּוֹתָר֙ בְּ/בֵ֣יתְ/ךָ֔ יָבוֹא֙ לְ/הִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֣ת ל֔/וֹ לַ/אֲג֥וֹרַת כֶּ֖סֶף וְ/כִכַּר לָ֑חֶם וְ/אָמַ֗ר סְפָחֵ֥/נִי נָ֛א אֶל אַחַ֥ת הַ/כְּהֻנּ֖וֹת לֶ/אֱכֹ֥ל פַּת לָֽחֶם
