And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.
GenevaThen Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Sheche came all Israel to make him king.
וַ/יֵּ֥לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֖ם שְׁכֶ֑מָ/ה כִּ֥י שְׁכֶ֛ם בָּ֥אוּ כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְ/הַמְלִ֥יךְ אֹתֽ/וֹ
And it came to passe when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat (who was in Egypt, whither hee had fled from the presence of Solomon the king) heard it, that Ieroboam returned out of Egypt.
GenevaAnd when Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat heard it, (which was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of Salomon the King) he returned out of Egypt.
וַ/יְהִ֞י כִּ/שְׁמֹ֨עַ יָרָבְעָ֤ם בֶּן נְבָט֙ וְ/ה֣וּא בְ/מִצְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּרַ֔ח מִ/פְּנֵ֖י שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ וַ/יָּ֥שָׁב יָרָבְעָ֖ם מִ/מִּצְרָֽיִם
And they sent and called him. So Ieroboam and all Israel came, and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

וַֽ/יִּשְׁלְחוּ֙ וַ/יִּקְרְאוּ ל֔/וֹ וַ/יָּבֹ֥א יָרָבְעָ֖ם וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽ/יְדַבְּר֔וּ אֶל רְחַבְעָ֖ם לֵ/אמֹֽר
Thy father made our yoke grieuous, nowe therefore ease thou somewhat the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his heauy yoke that he put vpon vs, and we will serue thee.
GenevaThy father made our yoke grieuous: nowe therefore make thou the grieuous seruitude of thy father, and his sore yoke, that he put vpon vs, lighter, and we will serue thee.
אָבִ֖י/ךָ הִקְשָׁ֣ה אֶת עֻלֵּ֑/נוּ וְ/עַתָּ֡ה הָקֵל֩ מֵ/עֲבֹדַ֨ת אָבִ֜י/ךָ הַ/קָּשָׁ֗ה וּ/מֵ/עֻלּ֧/וֹ הַ/כָּבֵ֛ד אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֥ן עָלֵ֖י/נוּ וְ/נַֽעַבְדֶֽ/ךָּ
And hee said vnto them, Come againe vnto me after three dayes. And the people departed.
GenevaAnd he sayde to them, Depart yet three dayes, then come againe vnto me. And the people departed.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵ/הֶ֗ם ע֛וֹד שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת יָמִ֖ים וְ/שׁ֣וּבוּ אֵלָ֑/י וַ/יֵּ֖לֶךְ הָ/עָֽם
¶ And king Rehoboam tooke counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father, while hee yet liued, saying, What counsell giue ye me, to returne answere to this people?
GenevaAnd King Rehoboam tooke counsel with the olde men that had stande before Salomon his father, while hee yet liued, saying, What counsell giue ye that I may answere this people?
וַ/יִּוָּעַ֞ץ הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֗ם אֶת הַ/זְּקֵנִים֙ אֲשֶׁר הָי֣וּ עֹֽמְדִ֗ים לִ/פְנֵי֙ שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה אָבִ֔י/ו בִּֽ/הְיֹת֥/וֹ חַ֖י לֵ/אמֹ֑ר אֵ֚יךְ אַתֶּ֣ם נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים לְ/הָשִׁ֥יב לָֽ/עָם הַ/זֶּ֖ה דָּבָֽר
And they spake vnto him, saying, If thou bee kinde to this people, and please them, and speake good words to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.
GenevaAnd they spake vnto him, saying, If thou be kinde to this people, and please them, and speake louing words to them, they will be thy seruants for euer.
וַ/יְדַבְּר֨וּ אֵלָ֜י/ו לֵ/אמֹ֗ר אִם תִּֽהְיֶ֨ה לְ/ט֜וֹב לְ/הָ/עָ֤ם הַ/זֶּה֙ וּ/רְצִיתָ֔/ם וְ/דִבַּרְתָּ֥ אֲלֵ/הֶ֖ם דְּבָרִ֣ים טוֹבִ֑ים וְ/הָי֥וּ לְ/ךָ֛ עֲבָדִ֖ים כָּל הַ/יָּמִֽים
But he forsooke the counsel which the old men gaue him, and tooke counsell with the yong men, that were brought vp with him, that stood before him.
GenevaBut hee left the counsel of the ancient men that they had giuen him, and tooke counsell of the yong men that were brought vp with him, and waited on him.
וַֽ/יַּעֲזֹ֛ב אֶת עֲצַ֥ת הַ/זְּקֵנִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְעָצֻ֑/הוּ וַ/יִּוָּעַ֗ץ אֶת הַ/יְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר גָּדְל֣וּ אִתּ֔/וֹ הָ/עֹמְדִ֖ים לְ/פָנָֽי/ו
And he said vnto them, What aduice giue ye, that wee may returne answere to this people, which haue spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put vpon vs?
GenevaAnd he sayd vnto them, What counsel giue ye, that we may answere this people, which haue spoken to mee, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put vpon vs, lighter?
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵ/הֶ֗ם מָ֚ה אַתֶּ֣ם נֽוֹעָצִ֔ים וְ/נָשִׁ֥יב דָּבָ֖ר אֶת הָ/עָ֣ם הַ/זֶּ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבְּר֤וּ אֵלַ/י֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר הָקֵל֙ מִן הָ/עֹ֔ל אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֥ן אָבִ֖י/ךָ עָלֵֽי/נוּ
And the yong men that were brought vp with him, spake vnto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answere the people that spake vnto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heauy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for vs: thus shalt thou say vnto them, My litle finger shall be thicker then my fathers loynes.

וַ/יְדַבְּר֣וּ אִתּ֗/וֹ הַ/יְלָדִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר גָּדְל֣וּ אִתּ/וֹ֮ לֵ/אמֹר֒ כֹּֽה תֹאמַ֡ר לָ/עָם֩ אֲשֶׁר דִּבְּר֨וּ אֵלֶ֜י/ךָ לֵ/אמֹ֗ר אָבִ֨י/ךָ֙ הִכְבִּ֣יד אֶת עֻלֵּ֔/נוּ וְ/אַתָּ֖ה הָקֵ֣ל מֵ/עָלֵ֑י/נוּ כֹּ֚ה תֹּאמַ֣ר אֲלֵ/הֶ֔ם קָֽטָנִּ֥/י עָבָ֖ה מִ/מָּתְנֵ֥י אָבִֽ/י
For where as my father put a heauy yoke vpon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
GenevaNow whereas my father did burden you with a grieuous yoke, I will yet increase your yoke: my father hath chastised you with roddes, but I will correct you with scourges.
וְ/עַתָּ֗ה אָבִ/י֙ הֶעְמִ֤יס עֲלֵי/כֶם֙ עֹ֣ל כָּבֵ֔ד וַ/אֲנִ֖י אֹסִ֣יף עַֽל עֻלְּ/כֶ֑ם אָבִ֗/י יִסַּ֤ר אֶתְ/כֶם֙ בַּ/שּׁוֹטִ֔ים וַ/אֲנִ֖י בָּֽ/עֲקְרַבִּֽים
So Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the King bade, saying, Come againe to me on the third day.
GenevaThen Ieroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the King had appointed saying, Come againe to me the third day.
וַ/יָּבֹ֨א יָרָבְעָ֧ם וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֛ם אֶל רְחַבְעָ֖ם בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/שְּׁלִשִׁ֑י כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֤ר הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר שׁ֥וּבוּ אֵלַ֖/י בַּ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/שְּׁלִשִֽׁי
And the king answered them roughly, and king Rehoboam forsooke the counsell of the old men,
GenevaAnd the King answered them sharply: and King Rehoboam left the counsel of the ancient men,
וַ/יַּעֲנֵ֥/ם הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ קָשָׁ֑ה וַֽ/יַּעֲזֹב֙ הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֔ם אֵ֖ת עֲצַ֥ת הַ/זְּקֵנִֽים
And answered them after the aduice of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke heauy, but I will adde thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
GenevaAnd spake to them after ye counsell of the yong men, saying, My father made your yoke grieuous, but I wil incease it: my father chastised you with rods, but I will correct you with scourges.
וַ/יְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵ/הֶ֗ם כַּ/עֲצַ֤ת הַ/יְלָדִים֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר אַכְבִּיד֙ אֶֽת עֻלְּ/כֶ֔ם וַ/אֲנִ֖י אֹסִ֣יף עָלָ֑י/ו אָבִ֗/י יִסַּ֤ר אֶתְ/כֶם֙ בַּ/שּׁוֹטִ֔ים וַ/אֲנִ֖י בָּ/עֲקְרַבִּֽים
So the king hearkened not vnto the people, for the cause was of God, that the LORD might performe his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat.

וְ/לֹֽא שָׁמַ֥ע הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל הָ/עָ֑ם כִּֽי הָיְתָ֤ה נְסִבָּה֙ מֵ/עִ֣ם הָֽ/אֱלֹהִ֔ים לְמַעַן֩ הָקִ֨ים יְהוָ֜ה אֶת דְּבָר֗/וֹ אֲשֶׁ֤ר דִּבֶּר֙ בְּ/יַד֙ אֲחִיָּ֣הוּ הַ/שִּֽׁלוֹנִ֔י אֶל יָרָבְעָ֖ם בֶּן נְבָֽט
¶ And when all Israel sawe that the king would not hearken vnto them, the people answered the king saying, What portion haue wee in Dauid? and wee haue none inheritance in the sonne of Iesse: Euery man to your tents, O Israel: and now Dauid, see to thine owne house. So all Israel went to their tents.
GenevaSo when all Isarael sawe that the King would not heare them, the people answered the King, saying, What portion haue we in Dauid? for we haue none inheritance in the sonue of Ishai. O Israel, euery man to your tents: now see to thine owne house, Dauid. So all Israel departed to their tents.
וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כִּ֠י לֹא שָׁמַ֣ע הַ/מֶּלֶךְ֮ לָ/הֶם֒ וַ/יָּשִׁ֣יבוּ הָ/עָ֣ם אֶת הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ לֵ/אמֹ֡ר מַה לָּ/נוּ֩ חֵ֨לֶק בְּ/דָוִ֜יד וְ/לֹֽא נַחֲלָ֣ה בְּ/בֶן יִשַׁ֗י אִ֤ישׁ לְ/אֹהָלֶ֨י/ךָ֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַתָּ֕ה רְאֵ֥ה בֵיתְ/ךָ֖ דָּוִ֑יד וַ/יֵּ֥לֶךְ כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְ/אֹהָלָֽי/ו
But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Iudah, Rehoboam reigned ouer them.
GenevaHowbeit Rehoboam reigned ouer the children of Israel, that dwelt in the cities of Iudah.
וּ/בְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַ/יֹּֽשְׁבִ֖ים בְּ/עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וַ/יִּמְלֹ֥ךְ עֲלֵי/הֶ֖ם רְחַבְעָֽם
Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was ouer the tribute, and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died: but king Rehoboam made speed to get him vp to his charet, to flee to Ierusalem.

וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֞ח הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֗ם אֶת הֲדֹרָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עַל הַ/מַּ֔ס וַ/יִּרְגְּמוּ ב֧/וֹ בְנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל אֶ֖בֶן וַ/יָּמֹ֑ת וְ/הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ רְחַבְעָ֗ם הִתְאַמֵּץ֙ לַֽ/עֲל֣וֹת בַּ/מֶּרְכָּבָ֔ה לָ/נ֖וּס יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
And Israel rebelled against the house of Dauid vnto this day.
