Nowe in the eighteenth yeere of king Ieroboam, began Abiiah to reigne ouer Iudah.

בִּ/שְׁנַ֛ת שְׁמוֹנֶ֥ה עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה לַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ יָרָבְעָ֑ם וַ/יִּמְלֹ֥ךְ אֲבִיָּ֖ה עַל יְהוּדָֽה
He reigned three yeres in Ierusalem: (his mothers name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibea:) and there was warre between Abiiah and Ieroboam.

שָׁל֣וֹשׁ שָׁנִ֗ים מָלַךְ֙ בִּ/יר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וְ/שֵׁ֣ם אִמּ֔/וֹ מִיכָיָ֥הוּ בַת אוּרִיאֵ֖ל מִן גִּבְעָ֑ה וּ/מִלְחָמָ֥ה הָיְתָ֛ה בֵּ֥ין אֲבִיָּ֖ה וּ/בֵ֥ין יָרָבְעָֽם
And Abiiah set the battel in aray with an army of valiant men of warre, euen foure hundred thousand chosen men: Ieroboam also set the battell in aray against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mightie men of valour.

¶ And Abiiah stood vp vpon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and sayde, Heare mee thou Ieroboam, and all Israel:

וַ/יָּ֣קָם אֲבִיָּ֗ה מֵ/עַל֙ לְ/הַ֣ר צְמָרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּ/הַ֣ר אֶפְרָ֑יִם וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר שְׁמָע֖וּ/נִי יָרָבְעָ֥ם וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
Ought you not to know, that the LORD God of Israel gaue the kingdome ouer Israel to Dauid for euer, euen to him and to his sonnes by a couenant of salt?

הֲ/לֹ֤א לָ/כֶם֙ לָ/דַ֔עַת כִּ֞י יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל נָתַ֨ן מַמְלָכָ֧ה לְ/דָוִ֛יד עַל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְ/עוֹלָ֑ם ל֥/וֹ וּ/לְ/בָנָ֖י/ו בְּרִ֥ית מֶֽלַח
Yet Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat, the seruant of Solomon the sonne of Dauid, is risen vp, and hath rebelled against his Lord.

וַ/יָּ֨קָם֙ יָרָבְעָ֣ם בֶּן נְבָ֔ט עֶ֖בֶד שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בֶן דָּוִ֑יד וַ/יִּמְרֹ֖ד עַל אֲדֹנָֽי/ו
And there are gathered vnto him vaine men the children of Belial, and haue strengthened themselues against Rehoboam the sonne of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young, & tender hearted, and could not withstand them.
GenevaAnd there are gathered to him vayne men and wicked, and made themselues strong against Rehoboam the sonne of Salomon: for Rehoboam was but a childe and tender hearted, and coulde not resist them.
וַ/יִּקָּבְצ֣וּ עָלָ֗י/ו אֲנָשִׁ֤ים רֵקִים֙ בְּנֵ֣י בְלִיַּ֔עַל וַ/יִּֽתְאַמְּצ֖וּ עַל רְחַבְעָ֣ם בֶּן שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה וּ/רְחַבְעָ֗ם הָ֤יָה נַ֨עַר֙ וְ/רַךְ לֵבָ֔ב וְ/לֹ֥א הִתְחַזַּ֖ק לִ/פְנֵי/הֶֽם
And now ye thinke to withstand the kingdome of the LORD, in the hand of the sonnes of Dauid, and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calues, which Ieroboam made you for gods.
GenevaNow therefore ye thinke that yee be able to resist against the kingdome of the Lord, which is in the handes of the sonnes of Dauid, and ye bee a great multitude, and the golden calues are with you which Ieroboam made you for gods.
וְ/עַתָּ֣ה אַתֶּ֣ם אֹֽמְרִ֗ים לְ/הִתְחַזֵּק֙ לִ/פְנֵי֙ מַמְלֶ֣כֶת יְהוָ֔ה בְּ/יַ֖ד בְּנֵ֣י דָוִ֑יד וְ/אַתֶּם֙ הָמ֣וֹן רָ֔ב וְ/עִמָּ/כֶם֙ עֶגְלֵ֣י זָהָ֔ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשָׂ֥ה לָ/כֶ֛ם יָרָבְעָ֖ם לֵ/אלֹהִֽים
Haue yee not cast out the Priests of the LORD the sonnes of Aaron, and the Leuites, and haue made you priests after the maner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoeuer commeth to consecrate himselfe with a young bullocke and seuen rammes, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.

הֲ/לֹ֤א הִדַּחְתֶּם֙ אֶת כֹּהֲנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה אֶת בְּנֵ֥י אַהֲרֹ֖ן וְ/הַ/לְוִיִּ֑ם וַ/תַּעֲשׂ֨וּ לָ/כֶ֤ם כֹּהֲנִים֙ כְּ/עַמֵּ֣י הָ/אֲרָצ֔וֹת כָּל הַ/בָּ֗א לְ/מַלֵּ֨א יָד֜/וֹ בְּ/פַ֤ר בֶּן בָּקָר֙ וְ/אֵילִ֣ם שִׁבְעָ֔ה וְ/הָיָ֥ה כֹהֵ֖ן לְ/לֹ֥א אֱלֹהִֽים
But as for vs, the LORD is our God, and wee haue not forsaken him, and the Priests which minister vnto the LORD, are the sonnes of Aaron, and the Leuites waite vpon their businesse.
GenevaBut wee belong vnto the Lord our God, and haue not forsaken him, and the Priestes the sonnes of Aaron minister vnto the Lord, and the Leuites in their office.
וַ/אֲנַ֛חְנוּ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖י/נוּ וְ/לֹ֣א עֲזַבְנֻ֑/הוּ וְ/כֹ֨הֲנִ֜ים מְשָׁרְתִ֤ים לַֽ/יהוָה֙ בְּנֵ֣י אַהֲרֹ֔ן וְ/הַ/לְוִיִּ֖ם בַּ/מְלָֽאכֶת
And they burne vnto the LORD euery morning, and euery euening, burnt sacrifices and sweete incense: the shew-bread also set they in order vpon the pure table, and the Candlesticke of golde with the lampes therof, to burne euery euening: for we keepe the charge of the LORD our God, but yee haue forsaken him.

וּ/מַקְטִרִ֣ים לַ/יהוָ֡ה עֹל֣וֹת בַּ/בֹּֽקֶר בַּ/בֹּ֣קֶר וּ/בָ/עֶֽרֶב בָּ/עֶ֣רֶב וּ/קְטֹֽרֶת סַמִּים֩ וּ/מַעֲרֶ֨כֶת לֶ֜חֶם עַל הַ/שֻּׁלְחָ֣ן הַ/טָּה֗וֹר וּ/מְנוֹרַ֨ת הַ/זָּהָ֤ב וְ/נֵרֹתֶ֨י/הָ֙ לְ/בָעֵר֙ בָּ/עֶ֣רֶב בָּ/עֶ֔רֶב כִּֽי שֹׁמְרִ֣ים אֲנַ֔חְנוּ אֶת מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑י/נוּ וְ/אַתֶּ֖ם עֲזַבְתֶּ֥ם אֹתֽ/וֹ
And behold, God himselfe is with vs for our captaine, and his Priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarme against you: O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers, for you shall not prosper.
GenevaAnd behold, this God is with vs, as a captaine, and his Priests with the sounding trumpets, to crie an alarme against you. O yee children of Israel, fight not against the Lord God of your fathers: for ye shall not prosper.
וְ/הִנֵּה֩ עִמָּ֨/נוּ בָ/רֹ֜אשׁ הָ/אֱלֹהִ֧ים וְ/כֹהֲנָ֛י/ו וַ/חֲצֹצְר֥וֹת הַ/תְּרוּעָ֖ה לְ/הָרִ֣יעַ עֲלֵי/כֶ֑ם בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אַל תִּלָּֽחֲמ֛וּ עִם יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי אֲבֹתֵי/כֶ֖ם כִּי לֹ֥א תַצְלִֽיחוּ
¶ But Ieroboam caused an ambushment to come about behinde them: so they were before Iudah, and the ambushment was behind them.

And when Iudah looked backe, behold, the battel was before and behind; and they cried vnto the LORD, and the Priests sounded with the trumpets.

וַ/יִּפְנ֣וּ יְהוּדָ֗ה וְ/הִנֵּ֨ה לָ/הֶ֤ם הַ/מִּלְחָמָה֙ פָּנִ֣ים וְ/אָח֔וֹר וַֽ/יִּצְעֲק֖וּ לַ/יהוָ֑ה וְ/הַ/כֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים מחצצרים בַּ/חֲצֹצְרֽוֹת
Then the men of Iudah gaue a shout: and as the men of Iudah shouted, it came to passe that God smote Ieroboam and all Israel, before Abiiah and Iudah.

וַ/יָּרִ֖יעוּ אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַ/יְהִ֗י בְּ/הָרִ֨יעַ֙ אִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה וְ/הָ/אֱלֹהִ֗ים נָגַ֤ף אֶת יָֽרָבְעָם֙ וְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִ/פְנֵ֥י אֲבִיָּ֖ה וִ/יהוּדָֽה
And the children of Israel fled before Iudah: and God deliuered them into their hand.

וַ/יָּנ֥וּסוּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מִ/פְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וַ/יִּתְּנֵ֥/ם אֱלֹהִ֖ים בְּ/יָדָֽ/ם
And Abiiah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fel downe slaine of Israel, fiue hundred thousand chosen men.

וַ/יַּכּ֥וּ בָ/הֶ֛ם אֲבִיָּ֥ה וְ/עַמּ֖/וֹ מַכָּ֣ה רַבָּ֑ה וַ/יִּפְּל֤וּ חֲלָלִים֙ מִ/יִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל חֲמֵשׁ מֵא֥וֹת אֶ֖לֶף אִ֥ישׁ בָּחֽוּר
Thus the children of Israel were brought vnder at that time, and the children of Iudah preuailed, because they relied vpon the LORD God of their fathers.

וַ/יִּכָּנְע֥וּ בְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בָּ/עֵ֣ת הַ/הִ֑יא וַ/יֶּֽאֶמְצוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה כִּ֣י נִשְׁעֲנ֔וּ עַל יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י אֲבוֹתֵי/הֶֽם
And Abiiah pursued after Ieroboam, & tooke cities from him, Beth-el with the townes thereof, and Ieshanah with the townes thereof, and Ephrain with the townes thereof.

וַ/יִּרְדֹּ֣ף אֲבִיָּה֮ אַחֲרֵ֣י יָרָבְעָם֒ וַ/יִּלְכֹּ֤ד מִמֶּ֨/נּוּ֙ עָרִ֔ים אֶת בֵּֽית אֵל֙ וְ/אֶת בְּנוֹתֶ֔י/הָ וְ/אֶת יְשָׁנָ֖ה וְ/אֶת בְּנוֹתֶ֑י/הָ וְ/אֶת עפרון וּ/בְנֹתֶֽי/הָ
Neither did Ieroboam recouer strength againe in the dayes of Abiiah: and the LORD strooke him, & he died.
GenevaAnd Ieroboam recouered no strength againe in the dayes of Abiiah, but the Lord plagued him, and he dyed.
וְ/לֹֽא עָצַ֧ר כֹּֽחַ יָרָבְעָ֛ם ע֖וֹד בִּ/ימֵ֣י אֲבִיָּ֑הוּ וַ/יִּגְּפֵ֥/הוּ יְהוָ֖ה וַ/יָּמֹֽת
¶ But Abiiah waxed mighty, and married fourteene wiues, and begate twentie and two sonnes, and sixteene daughters.
