2 Kings 19
And it came to passe when King Hezekiah heard it, that hee rent his clothes, and couered himselfe with sackecloth, and went into the house of the LORD.
GenevaAnd when King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes and put on sackecloth, and came into the house of the Lord,
וַ/יְהִ֗י כִּ/שְׁמֹ֨עַ֙ הַ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ וַ/יִּקְרַ֖ע אֶת בְּגָדָ֑י/ו וַ/יִּתְכַּ֣ס בַּ/שָּׂ֔ק וַ/יָּבֹ֖א בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה
And hee sent Eliakim, which was ouer the houshold, and Shebna the Scribe, and the Elders of the Priests, couered with sackcloth, to Esai the Prophet the sonne of Amoz.
GenevaAnd sent Eliakim which was the stewarde of the house, and Shebnah the chanceller, and the Elders of the Priestes clothed in sackecloth to Isaiah the Prophet the sonne of Amoz.
וַ֠/יִּשְׁלַח אֶת אֶלְיָקִ֨ים אֲשֶׁר עַל הַ/בַּ֜יִת וְ/שֶׁבְנָ֣א הַ/סֹּפֵ֗ר וְ/אֵת֙ זִקְנֵ֣י הַ/כֹּֽהֲנִ֔ים מִתְכַּסִּ֖ים בַּ/שַּׂקִּ֑ים אֶל יְשַֽׁעְיָ֥הוּ הַ/נָּבִ֖יא בֶּן אָמֽוֹץ
And they sayd vnto him, Thus sayth Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and blasphemie: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring foorth.
GenevaAnd they said vnto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of tribulation and of rebuke, and blasphemie: for the childre are come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring foorth.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗י/ו כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר חִזְקִיָּ֔הוּ יוֹם צָרָ֧ה וְ/תוֹכֵחָ֛ה וּ/נְאָצָ֖ה הַ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/זֶּ֑ה כִּ֣י בָ֤אוּ בָנִים֙ עַד מַשְׁבֵּ֔ר וְ/כֹ֥חַ אַ֖יִן לְ/לֵדָֽה
It may be, the LORD thy God will heare all the words of Rabshakeh whome the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproch the liuing God, and will reprooue the wordes which the LORD thy God hath heard: wherefore lift vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
GenevaIf so be the Lord thy God hath heard all the wordes of Rabshakeh, whome the King of Asshur his master hath sent to raile on the liuing God, and to reproch him with wordes which the Lord thy God hath heard, then lift thou vp thy prayer for the remnant that are left.
אוּלַ֡י יִשְׁמַע֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜י/ךָ אֵ֣ת כָּל דִּבְרֵ֣י רַב שָׁקֵ֗ה אֲשֶׁר֩ שְׁלָח֨/וֹ מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֤וּר אֲדֹנָי/ו֙ לְ/חָרֵף֙ אֱלֹהִ֣ים חַ֔י וְ/הוֹכִ֨יחַ֙ בַּ/דְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁמַ֖ע יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑י/ךָ וְ/נָשָׂ֣אתָ תְפִלָּ֔ה בְּעַ֥ד הַ/שְּׁאֵרִ֖ית הַ/נִּמְצָאָֽה
So the seruants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

וַ/יָּבֹ֗אוּ עַבְדֵ֛י הַ/מֶּ֥לֶךְ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ אֶל יְשַֽׁעַיָֽהוּ
¶ And Isaiah said vnto them, Thus shal ye say to your master, Thus saith the LORD, Be not afraid of the wordes which thou hast heard, with which the seruants of the king of Assyria haue blasphemed me.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר לָ/הֶם֙ יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ כֹּ֥ה תֹאמְר֖וּ/ן אֶל אֲדֹֽנֵי/כֶ֑ם כֹּ֣ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אַל תִּירָא֙ מִ/פְּנֵ֤י הַ/דְּבָרִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ אֲשֶׁ֧ר גִּדְּפ֛וּ נַעֲרֵ֥י מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֖וּר אֹתִֽ/י
Behold, I will send a blast vpon him, and he shall heare a rumour, and shall returne to his owne land, and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his owne land.

הִנְ/נִ֨י נֹתֵ֥ן בּ/וֹ֙ ר֔וּחַ וְ/שָׁמַ֥ע שְׁמוּעָ֖ה וְ/שָׁ֣ב לְ/אַרְצ֑/וֹ וְ/הִפַּלְתִּ֥י/ו בַּ/חֶ֖רֶב בְּ/אַרְצֽ/וֹ
¶ So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for hee had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

וַ/יָּ֨שָׁב֙ רַב שָׁקֵ֔ה וַ/יִּמְצָא֙ אֶת מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר נִלְחָ֖ם עַל לִבְנָ֑ה כִּ֣י שָׁמַ֔ע כִּ֥י נָסַ֖ע מִ/לָּכִֽישׁ
And when he heard say of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, Behold, hee is come out to fight against thee: hee sent messengers againe vnto Hezekiah, saying,
GenevaHe heard also men say of Tirhakah King of Ethiopia, Beholde, he is come out to fight against thee: he therefore departed and sent other messengers vnto Hezekiah, saying,
וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֗ע אֶל תִּרְהָ֤קָה מֶֽלֶך כּוּשׁ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר הִנֵּ֥ה יָצָ֖א לְ/הִלָּחֵ֣ם אִתָּ֑/ךְ וַ/יָּ֨שָׁב֙ וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח מַלְאָכִ֔ים אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לֵ/אמֹֽר
Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah king of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God in whome thou trustest, deceiue thee, saying, Ierusalem shall not be deliuered into the hande of the king of Assyria.
GenevaThus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, and say, Let not thy God deceiue thee in whome thou trustest, saying, Ierusalem shall not be deliuered into the hande of the King of Asshur.
כֹּ֣ה תֹאמְר֗וּ/ן אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֤הוּ מֶֽלֶךְ יְהוּדָה֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר אַל יַשִּׁאֲ/ךָ֣ אֱלֹהֶ֔י/ךָ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֛ה בֹּטֵ֥חַ בּ֖/וֹ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר לֹ֤א תִנָּתֵן֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם בְּ/יַ֖ד מֶ֥לֶךְ אַשּֽׁוּר
Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria haue done to all lands, by destroying them vtterly: and shalt thou be deliuered?
GenevaBeholde, thou hast heard what the Kings of Asshur haue done to all landes, how they haue destroyed them: and shalt thou be deliuered?
הִנֵּ֣ה אַתָּ֣ה שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ אֵת֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשׂ֜וּ מַלְכֵ֥י אַשּׁ֛וּר לְ/כָל הָ/אֲרָצ֖וֹת לְ/הַֽחֲרִימָ֑/ם וְ/אַתָּ֖ה תִּנָּצֵֽל
Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them which my fathers haue destroyed? As Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Thelasar?

הַ/הִצִּ֨ילוּ אֹתָ֜/ם אֱלֹהֵ֤י הַ/גּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שִׁחֲת֣וּ אֲבוֹתַ֔/י אֶת גּוֹזָ֖ן וְ/אֶת חָרָ֑ן וְ/רֶ֥צֶף וּ/בְנֵי עֶ֖דֶן אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּ/תְלַאשָּֽׂר
Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arpad, and the king of the citie of Sepharuaim, of Hena, and Iuah?

אַיּ֤/וֹ מֶֽלֶךְ חֲמָת֙ וּ/מֶ֣לֶךְ אַרְפָּ֔ד וּ/מֶ֖לֶךְ לָעִ֣יר סְפַרְוָ֑יִם הֵנַ֖ע וְ/עִוָּֽה
¶ And Hezekiah receiued the letter of the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went vp into the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD.

וַ/יִּקַּ֨ח חִזְקִיָּ֧הוּ אֶת הַ/סְּפָרִ֛ים מִ/יַּ֥ד הַ/מַּלְאָכִ֖ים וַ/יִּקְרָאֵ֑/ם וַ/יַּ֨עַל֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה וַ/יִּפְרְשֵׂ֥/הוּ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לִ/פְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה
And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel, which dwellest between the Cherubims, thou art the God, euen thou alone, of all the kingdomes of the earth, thou hast made heauen and earth.
GenevaAnd Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and saide, O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest betweene the Cherubims, thou art very God alone ouer all the kingdomes of the earth: thou hast made the heauen and the earth.
וַ/יִּתְפַּלֵּ֨ל חִזְקִיָּ֜הוּ לִ/פְנֵ֣י יְהוָה֮ וַ/יֹּאמַר֒ יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יֹשֵׁ֣ב הַ/כְּרֻבִ֔ים אַתָּה ה֤וּא הָֽ/אֱלֹהִים֙ לְ/בַדְּ/ךָ֔ לְ/כֹ֖ל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָ/אָ֑רֶץ אַתָּ֣ה עָשִׂ֔יתָ אֶת הַ/שָּׁמַ֖יִם וְ/אֶת הָ/אָֽרֶץ
LORD, bow downe thine eare, and heare: open, LORD, thine eyes; and see: and heare the words of Sennacherib which hath sent him to reproch the liuing God.
GenevaLord, bow downe thine eare, and heare: Lord open thine eyes and behold, and heare the wordes of Saneherib, who hath sent to blaspheme the liuing God.
הַטֵּ֨ה יְהוָ֤ה אָזְנְ/ךָ֙ וּֽ/שֲׁמָ֔ע פְּקַ֧ח יְהוָ֛ה עֵינֶ֖י/ךָ וּ/רְאֵ֑ה וּ/שְׁמַ֗ע אֵ֚ת דִּבְרֵ֣י סַנְחֵרִ֔יב אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁלָח֔/וֹ לְ/חָרֵ֖ף אֱלֹהִ֥ים חָֽי
Of a trueth, LORD, the kings of Assyria haue destroyed the nations and their lands,
GenevaTrueth it is, Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed the nations and their landes,
אָמְנָ֖ם יְהוָ֑ה הֶחֱרִ֜יבוּ מַלְכֵ֥י אַשּׁ֛וּר אֶת הַ/גּוֹיִ֖ם וְ/אֶת אַרְצָֽ/ם
And haue cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of mens hands, wood and stone: therfore they haue destroyed them.

וְ/נָתְנ֥וּ אֶת אֱלֹהֵי/הֶ֖ם בָּ/אֵ֑שׁ כִּי֩ לֹ֨א אֱלֹהִ֜ים הֵ֗מָּה כִּ֣י אִם מַעֲשֵׂ֧ה יְדֵֽי אָדָ֛ם עֵ֥ץ וָ/אֶ֖בֶן וַֽ/יְאַבְּדֽוּ/ם
Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, saue thou vs out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know, that thou art the LORD God, euen thou onely.
GenevaNowe therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, saue thou vs out of his hande, that all the kingdomes of the earth may knowe, that thou, O Lord, art onely God.
וְ/עַתָּה֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔י/נוּ הוֹשִׁיעֵ֥/נוּ נָ֖א מִ/יָּד֑/וֹ וְ/יֵֽדְעוּ֙ כָּל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הָ/אָ֔רֶץ כִּ֥י אַתָּ֛ה יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהִ֖ים לְ/בַדֶּֽ/ךָ
¶ Then Isaiah the sonne of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to mee against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I haue heard.

וַ/יִּשְׁלַח֙ יְשַֽׁעְיָ֣הוּ בֶן אָמ֔וֹץ אֶל חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לֵ/אמֹ֑ר כֹּֽה אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר הִתְפַּלַּ֧לְתָּ אֵלַ֛/י אֶל סַנְחֵרִ֥ב מֶֽלֶךְ אַשּׁ֖וּר שָׁמָֽעְתִּי
This is the word that the LORD hath spoken concerning him, The Uirgin, the daughter of Zion hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne, the daughter of Ierusalem hath shaken her head at thee.
GenevaThis is the worde that the Lord hath spoken against him, O Virgine, daughter of Zion, he hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorne: O daughter of Ierusalem, he hath shaken his head at thee.
זֶ֣ה הַ/דָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה עָלָ֑י/ו בָּזָ֨ה לְ/ךָ֜ לָעֲגָ֣ה לְ/ךָ֗ בְּתוּלַת֙ בַּת צִיּ֔וֹן אַחֲרֶ֨י/ךָ֙ רֹ֣אשׁ הֵנִ֔יעָה בַּ֖ת יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
Whome hast thou reproched and blasphemed? and against whome hast thou exalted thy voyce, and lift vp thine eyes on high? euen against the Holy One of Israel.

אֶת מִ֤י חֵרַ֨פְתָּ֙ וְ/גִדַּ֔פְתָּ וְ/עַל מִ֖י הֲרִימ֣וֹתָ קּ֑וֹל וַ/תִּשָּׂ֥א מָר֛וֹם עֵינֶ֖י/ךָ עַל קְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
By thy messengers thou hast reproched the Lord, and hast said, With the multitude of my charets, I am come vp to the height of the mountaines, to the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the tall cedar trees thereof, and the choice firre trees thereof: and I will enter into the lodgings of his borders, and into the forrest of his Carmel.
GenevaBy thy messengers thou hast rayled on the Lord, and said, By the multitude of my charets I am come vp to the toppe of the mountaines, by the sides of Lebanon, and will cut downe the hie cedars thereof, and the faire firre trees thereof, and I will goe into the lodging of his borders, and into the forest of his Carmel.
בְּ/יַ֣ד מַלְאָכֶי/ךָ֮ חֵרַ֣פְתָּ אֲדֹנָ/י֒ וַ/תֹּ֗אמֶר ב/רכב רִכְבִּ֛/י אֲנִ֥י עָלִ֛יתִי מְר֥וֹם הָרִ֖ים יַרְכְּתֵ֣י לְבָנ֑וֹן וְ/אֶכְרֹ֞ת קוֹמַ֤ת אֲרָזָי/ו֙ מִבְח֣וֹר בְּרֹשָׁ֔י/ו וְ/אָב֨וֹאָה֙ מְל֣וֹן קִצֹּ֔/ה יַ֖עַר כַּרְמִלּֽ/וֹ
I haue digged & drunke strange waters, and with the sole of my feete haue I dried vp all the riuers of besieged places.
GenevaI haue digged, and drunke the waters of others, and with the plant of my feete haue I dried all the floods closed in.
אֲנִ֣י קַ֔רְתִּי וְ/שָׁתִ֖יתִי מַ֣יִם זָרִ֑ים וְ/אַחְרִב֙ בְּ/כַף פְּעָמַ֔/י כֹּ֖ל יְאֹרֵ֥י מָצֽוֹר
Hast thou not heard long agoe, how I haue done it, and of ancient times that I haue formed it? now haue I brought it to passe, that thou shouldest be to lay waste fenced cities into ruinous heapes.
GenevaHast thou not heard, howe I haue of olde time made it, and haue formed it long ago? and should I nowe bring it, that it should be destroyed, and laid on ruinous heapes, as cities defensed?
הֲ/לֹֽא שָׁמַ֤עְתָּ לְ/מֵֽ/רָחוֹק֙ אֹתָ֣/הּ עָשִׂ֔יתִי לְ/מִ֥/ימֵי קֶ֖דֶם וִֽ/יצַרְתִּ֑י/הָ עַתָּ֣ה הֲבֵיאתִ֗י/הָ וּ/תְהִ֗י לַ/הְשׁ֛וֹת גַּלִּ֥ים נִצִּ֖ים עָרִ֥ים בְּצֻרֽוֹת
Therefore their Inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded, they were as the grasse of the field, and as the greene herbe, as the grasse on the house tops, and as corne blasted before it be growen vp.
GenevaWhose inhabitants haue small power, and are afraid, and confounded: they are like the grasse of the field, and greene herbe, or grasse on ye house toppes, or as corne blasted before it be growen.
וְ/יֹֽשְׁבֵי/הֶן֙ קִצְרֵי יָ֔ד חַ֖תּוּ וַ/יֵּבֹ֑שׁוּ הָי֞וּ עֵ֤שֶׂב שָׂדֶה֙ וִ֣/ירַק דֶּ֔שֶׁא חֲצִ֣יר גַּגּ֔וֹת וּ/שְׁדֵפָ֖ה לִ/פְנֵ֥י קָמָֽה
But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.
GenevaI knowe thy dwelling, yea, thy going out, and thy comming in, and thy furie against me.
וְ/שִׁבְתְּ/ךָ֛ וְ/צֵאתְ/ךָ֥ וּ/בֹאֲ/ךָ֖ יָדָ֑עְתִּי וְ/אֵ֖ת הִֽתְרַגֶּזְ/ךָ֥ אֵלָֽ/י
Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult is come vp into mine eares, therefore I will put my hooke in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turne thee backe by the way by which thou camest.
GenevaAnd because thou ragest against me, and thy tumult is come vp to mine eares, I will put mine hooke in thy nostrels, and my bridle in thy lippes, and will bring thee backe againe the same way thou camest.
יַ֚עַן הִתְרַגֶּזְ/ךָ֣ אֵלַ֔/י וְ/שַׁאֲנַנְ/ךָ֖ עָלָ֣ה בְ/אָזְנָ֑/י וְ/שַׂמְתִּ֨י חַחִ֜/י בְּ/אַפֶּ֗/ךָ וּ/מִתְגִּ/י֙ בִּ/שְׂפָתֶ֔י/ךָ וַ/הֲשִׁ֣בֹתִ֔י/ךָ בַּ/דֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁר בָּ֥אתָ בָּֽ/הּ
And this shalbe a signe vnto thee, Yee shall eate this yeere such things as grow of themselues, and in the second yeere that which springeth of the same, and in the third yeere sow ye and reape, and plant Uineyards, and eate the fruits thereof.
GenevaAnd this shalbe a signe vnto thee, O Hezekiah, Thou shalt eate this yeere such things as growe of them selues, and the next yeere such as growe without sowing, and the third yeere sowe ye and reape, and plant vineyardes, and eate the fruites thereof.
וְ/זֶה לְּ/ךָ֣ הָ/א֔וֹת אָכ֤וֹל הַ/שָּׁנָה֙ סָפִ֔יחַ וּ/בַ/שָּׁנָ֥ה הַ/שֵּׁנִ֖ית סָחִ֑ישׁ וּ/בַ/שָּׁנָ֣ה הַ/שְּׁלִישִׁ֗ית זִרְע֧וּ וְ/קִצְר֛וּ וְ/נִטְע֥וּ כְרָמִ֖ים וְ/אִכְל֥וּ פִרְיָֽ/ם
And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Iudah, shall yet againe take root downeward, and beare fruit vpward.

וְ/יָ֨סְפָ֜ה פְּלֵיטַ֧ת בֵּית יְהוּדָ֛ה הַ/נִּשְׁאָרָ֖ה שֹׁ֣רֶשׁ לְ/מָ֑טָּה וְ/עָשָׂ֥ה פְרִ֖י לְ/מָֽעְלָ/ה
For out of Ierusalem shall goe forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the LORD of hostes shall doe this.
GenevaFor out of Ierusalem shall goe a remnant, and some that shall escape out of mount Zion: the zeale of the Lord of hostes shall doe this.
כִּ֤י מִ/ירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ תֵּצֵ֣א שְׁאֵרִ֔ית וּ/פְלֵיטָ֖ה מֵ/הַ֣ר צִיּ֑וֹן קִנְאַ֛ת יְהוָ֥ה תַּֽעֲשֶׂה זֹּֽאת
Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a banke against it:
GenevaWherefore thus saith the Lord, concerning the King of Asshur, He shall not enter into this citie, nor shoote an arrowe there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a mount against it:
לָ/כֵ֗ן כֹּֽה אָמַ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר לֹ֤א יָבֹא֙ אֶל הָ/עִ֣יר הַ/זֹּ֔את וְ/לֹֽא יוֹרֶ֥ה שָׁ֖ם חֵ֑ץ וְ/לֹֽא יְקַדְּמֶ֣/נָּה מָגֵ֔ן וְ/לֹֽא יִשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ עָלֶ֖י/הָ סֹלְלָֽה
By the way that hee came, by the same shal he returne, and shal not come into this city, saith the LORD.

בַּ/דֶּ֥רֶךְ אֲשֶׁר יָבֹ֖א בָּ֣/הּ יָשׁ֑וּב וְ/אֶל הָ/עִ֥יר הַ/זֹּ֛את לֹ֥א יָבֹ֖א נְאֻם יְהוָֽה
For I will defend this citie, to saue it, for mine owne sake, and for my seruant Dauids sake.

And it came to passe as hee was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adramelech, and Sharezer his sonnes, smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia, and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his stead.
