Deuteronomy 9
Heare, O Israel, thou art to passe ouer Iordan this day, to goe in, to possesse nations greater & mightier then thy selfe, Cities great, and fenced vp to heauen,

שְׁמַ֣ע יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אַתָּ֨ה עֹבֵ֤ר הַ/יּוֹם֙ אֶת הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֔ן לָ/בֹא֙ לָ/רֶ֣שֶׁת גּוֹיִ֔ם גְּדֹלִ֥ים וַ/עֲצֻמִ֖ים מִמֶּ֑/ךָּ עָרִ֛ים גְּדֹלֹ֥ת וּ/בְצֻרֹ֖ת בַּ/שָּׁמָֽיִם
A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak?

עַֽם גָּד֥וֹל וָ/רָ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י עֲנָקִ֑ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה יָדַ֨עְתָּ֙ וְ/אַתָּ֣ה שָׁמַ֔עְתָּ מִ֣י יִתְיַצֵּ֔ב לִ/פְנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י עֲנָֽק
Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he, which goeth ouer before thee, as a consuming fire: he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them downe before thy face: So shalt thou driue them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said vnto thee.

וְ/יָדַעְתָּ֣ הַ/יּ֗וֹם כִּי֩ יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜י/ךָ הֽוּא הָ/עֹבֵ֤ר לְ/פָנֶ֨י/ךָ֙ אֵ֣שׁ אֹֽכְלָ֔ה ה֧וּא יַשְׁמִידֵ֛/ם וְ/ה֥וּא יַכְנִיעֵ֖/ם לְ/פָנֶ֑י/ךָ וְ/הֽוֹרַשְׁתָּ֤/ם וְ/הַֽאַבַדְתָּ/ם֙ מַהֵ֔ר כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֛ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לָֽ/ךְ
Speake not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousnesse the LORD hath brought mee in to possesse this land: but for the wickednesse of these nations, the LORD doeth driue them out from before thee.

אַל תֹּאמַ֣ר בִּ/לְבָבְ/ךָ֗ בַּ/הֲדֹ֣ף יְהוָה֩ אֱלֹהֶ֨י/ךָ אֹתָ֥/ם מִ/לְּ/פָנֶי/ךָ֮ לֵ/אמֹר֒ בְּ/צִדְקָתִ/י֙ הֱבִיאַ֣/נִי יְהוָ֔ה לָ/רֶ֖שֶׁת אֶת הָ/אָ֣רֶץ הַ/זֹּ֑את וּ/בְ/רִשְׁעַת֙ הַ/גּוֹיִ֣ם הָ/אֵ֔לֶּה יְהוָ֖ה מוֹרִישָׁ֥/ם מִ/פָּנֶֽי/ךָ
Not for thy righteousnesse, or for the vprightnesse of thine heart, doest thou goe to possesse their land: But for the wickednesse of these nations the LORD thy God doeth driue them out from before thee, and that he may performe the word which the LORD sware vnto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Iacob.
GenevaFor thou entrest not to inherite their lande for thy righteousnesse, or for thy vpright heart: but for the wickednesse of those nations, the Lord thy God doth cast them out before thee, and that he might performe the worde which the Lord thy God sware vnto thy fathers, Abraham, Izhak, and Iacob.
לֹ֣א בְ/צִדְקָתְ/ךָ֗ וּ/בְ/יֹ֨שֶׁר֙ לְבָ֣בְ/ךָ֔ אַתָּ֥ה בָ֖א לָ/רֶ֣שֶׁת אֶת אַרְצָ֑/ם כִּ֞י בְּ/רִשְׁעַ֣ת הַ/גּוֹיִ֣ם הָ/אֵ֗לֶּה יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֨י/ךָ֙ מוֹרִישָׁ֣/ם מִ/פָּנֶ֔י/ךָ וּ/לְמַ֜עַן הָקִ֣ים אֶת הַ/דָּבָ֗ר אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִשְׁבַּ֤ע יְהוָה֙ לַ/אֲבֹתֶ֔י/ךָ לְ/אַבְרָהָ֥ם לְ/יִצְחָ֖ק וּֽ/לְ/יַעֲקֹֽב
Understand therefore, that the LORD thy God giueth thee not this good land to possesse it, for thy righteousnesse; for thou art a stiffe-necked people.

וְ/יָדַעְתָּ֗ כִּ֠י לֹ֤א בְ/צִדְקָֽתְ/ךָ֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱ֠לֹהֶי/ךָ נֹתֵ֨ן לְ/ךָ֜ אֶת הָ/אָ֧רֶץ הַ/טּוֹבָ֛ה הַ/זֹּ֖את לְ/רִשְׁתָּ֑/הּ כִּ֥י עַם קְשֵׁה עֹ֖רֶף אָֽתָּה
¶ Remember and forget not, how thou prouokedst the LORD thy God to wrath in the wildernesse: from the day that thou didst depart out of the land of Egypt, vntill ye came vnto this place, yee haue bene rebellious against the LORD.
GenevaRemember, and forget not, howe thou prouokedst the Lord thy God to anger in the wildernesse: since the day that thou diddest depart out of the land of Egypt, vntill ye came vnto this place ye haue rebelled against the Lord.
זְכֹר֙ אַל תִּשְׁכַּ֔ח אֵ֧ת אֲשֶׁר הִקְצַ֛פְתָּ אֶת יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖י/ךָ בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֑ר לְ/מִן הַ/יּ֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר יָצָ֣אתָ מֵ/אֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַ֗יִם עַד בֹּֽאֲ/כֶם֙ עַד הַ/מָּק֣וֹם הַ/זֶּ֔ה מַמְרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם עִם יְהוָֽה
Also in Horeb yee prouoked the LORD to wrath, so that the LORD was angry with you, to haue destroyed you.
GenevaAlso in Horeb ye prouoked the Lord to anger so that the Lord was wroth with you, euen to destroy you.
וּ/בְ/חֹרֵ֥ב הִקְצַפְתֶּ֖ם אֶת יְהוָ֑ה וַ/יִּתְאַנַּ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה בָּ/כֶ֖ם לְ/הַשְׁמִ֥יד אֶתְ/כֶֽם
When I was gone vp into the mount, to receiue the Tables of stone, euen the Tables of the Couenant which the LORD made with you, then I abode in the mount fortie dayes, and fortie nights, I neither did eate bread, nor drinke water:
GenevaWhen I was gone vp into the mount, to receiue the tables of stone, the tables, I say, of the couenant, which the Lord made with you: and I abode in the mount fourtie daies and fourtie nights, and I neither ate bread nor yet dranke water:
בַּ/עֲלֹתִ֣/י הָ/הָ֗רָ/ה לָ/קַ֜חַת לוּחֹ֤ת הָֽ/אֲבָנִים֙ לוּחֹ֣ת הַ/בְּרִ֔ית אֲשֶׁר כָּרַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה עִמָּ/כֶ֑ם וָ/אֵשֵׁ֣ב בָּ/הָ֗ר אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יוֹם֙ וְ/אַרְבָּעִ֣ים לַ֔יְלָה לֶ֚חֶם לֹ֣א אָכַ֔לְתִּי וּ/מַ֖יִם לֹ֥א שָׁתִֽיתִי
And the LORD deliuered vnto me two Tables of stone, written with the finger of God, and on them was written according to all the words which the LORD spake with you in the mount, out of the midst of fire, in the day of the assembly.
GenevaThen the Lord deliuered me two tables of stone, written with the finger of God, and in them was conteyned according to all the wordes which the Lord had said vnto you in the mount out of the middes of the fire, in the day of the assemblie.
וַ/יִּתֵּ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗/י אֶת שְׁנֵי֙ לוּחֹ֣ת הָֽ/אֲבָנִ֔ים כְּתֻבִ֖ים בְּ/אֶצְבַּ֣ע אֱלֹהִ֑ים וַ/עֲלֵי/הֶ֗ם כְּֽ/כָל הַ/דְּבָרִ֡ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּר֩ יְהוָ֨ה עִמָּ/כֶ֥ם בָּ/הָ֛ר מִ/תּ֥וֹךְ הָ/אֵ֖שׁ בְּ/י֥וֹם הַ/קָּהָֽל
And it came to passe at the end of fortie dayes, and fortie nights, that the LORD gaue mee the two Tables of stone, euen the Tables of the Couenant.
GenevaAnd when the fourtie dayes and fourtie nightes were ended, the Lord gaue me the two tables of stone, the tables, I say, of the couenant.
וַ/יְהִ֗י מִ/קֵּץ֙ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים י֔וֹם וְ/אַרְבָּעִ֖ים לָ֑יְלָה נָתַ֨ן יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗/י אֶת שְׁנֵ֛י לֻחֹ֥ת הָ/אֲבָנִ֖ים לֻח֥וֹת הַ/בְּרִֽית
And the LORD said vnto mee, Arise, get thee downe quickly from hence; for thy people which thou hast brought foorth out of Egypt, haue corrupted themselues: they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they haue made them a molten image.

וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗/י ק֣וּם רֵ֤ד מַהֵר֙ מִ/זֶּ֔ה כִּ֚י שִׁחֵ֣ת עַמְּ/ךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הוֹצֵ֖אתָ מִ/מִּצְרָ֑יִם סָ֣רוּ מַהֵ֗ר מִן הַ/דֶּ֨רֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֔/ם עָשׂ֥וּ לָ/הֶ֖ם מַסֵּכָֽה
Furthermore, the LORD spake vnto me, saying, I haue seene this people, and behold, it is a stifnecked people.
GenevaFurthermore, the Lord spake vnto me, saying, I haue seene this people, and beholde, it is a stifnecked people.
וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֣/י לֵ/אמֹ֑ר רָאִ֨יתִי֙ אֶת הָ/עָ֣ם הַ/זֶּ֔ה וְ/הִנֵּ֥ה עַם קְשֵׁה עֹ֖רֶף הֽוּא
Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from vnder heauen: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater then they.
GenevaLet me alone, that I may destroy them, and put out their name from vnder heaue, and I wil make of thee a mightie nation, and greater then they be.
הֶ֤רֶף מִמֶּ֨/נִּי֙ וְ/אַשְׁמִידֵ֔/ם וְ/אֶמְחֶ֣ה אֶת שְׁמָ֔/ם מִ/תַּ֖חַת הַ/שָּׁמָ֑יִם וְ/אֶֽעֱשֶׂה֙ אֽוֹתְ/ךָ֔ לְ/גוֹי עָצ֥וּם וָ/רָ֖ב מִמֶּֽ/נּוּ
So I turned and came downe from the mount, and the mount burned with fire: and the two Tables of the Couenant were in my two hands.
GenevaSo I returned, and came downe from the Mount (and the Mount burnt with fire, and ye two Tables of the couenant were in my two handes)
וָ/אֵ֗פֶן וָֽ/אֵרֵד֙ מִן הָ/הָ֔ר וְ/הָ/הָ֖ר בֹּעֵ֣ר בָּ/אֵ֑שׁ וּ/שְׁנֵי֙ לֻחֹ֣ת הַ/בְּרִ֔ית עַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֥י יָדָֽ/י
And I looked, and behold, ye had sinned against the LORD your God, and had made you a molten calfe: ye had turned aside quickly out of the way which the LORD had commanded you.
GenevaThen I looked, and beholde, ye had sinned against the Lord your God: for ye had made you a molten calfe, and had turned quickly out of the way which the Lord had commanded you.
וָ/אֵ֗רֶא וְ/הִנֵּ֤ה חֲטָאתֶם֙ לַ/יהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵי/כֶ֔ם עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם לָ/כֶ֔ם עֵ֖גֶל מַסֵּכָ֑ה סַרְתֶּ֣ם מַהֵ֔ר מִן הַ/דֶּ֕רֶךְ אֲשֶׁר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה אֶתְ/כֶֽם
And I tooke the two Tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and brake them before your eyes.

וָ/אֶתְפֹּשׂ֙ בִּ/שְׁנֵ֣י הַ/לֻּחֹ֔ת וָֽ/אַשְׁלִכֵ֔/ם מֵ/עַ֖ל שְׁתֵּ֣י יָדָ֑/י וָ/אֲשַׁבְּרֵ֖/ם לְ/עֵינֵי/כֶֽם
And I fell downe before the LORD, as at the first, fortie dayes and fortie nights, I did neither eate bread nor drinke water, because of all your sinnes which ye sinned, in doing wickedly in the sight of the LORD, to prouoke him to anger.
GenevaAnd I fell downe before the Lord, fourtie dayes, and fourtie nightes, as before: I neither ate bread nor dranke water, because of al your sinnes, which ye had committed, in doing wickedly in the sight of the Lord, in that ye prouoked him vnto wrath.
וָֽ/אֶתְנַפַּל֩ לִ/פְנֵ֨י יְהוָ֜ה כָּ/רִאשֹׁנָ֗ה אַרְבָּעִ֥ים יוֹם֙ וְ/אַרְבָּעִ֣ים לַ֔יְלָה לֶ֚חֶם לֹ֣א אָכַ֔לְתִּי וּ/מַ֖יִם לֹ֣א שָׁתִ֑יתִי עַ֤ל כָּל חַטַּאתְ/כֶם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר חֲטָאתֶ֔ם לַ/עֲשׂ֥וֹת הָ/רַ֛ע בְּ/עֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לְ/הַכְעִיסֽ/וֹ
(For I was afraid of the anger, and whot displeasure wherewith the LORD was wroth against you, to destroy you.) But the LORD hearkned vnto me at that time also.
Geneva(For I was afraide of the wrath and indignation, wherewith the Lord was mooued against you, euen to destroy you) yet the Lord heard me at that time also.
כִּ֣י יָגֹ֗רְתִּי מִ/פְּנֵ֤י הָ/אַף֙ וְ/הַ֣/חֵמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָצַ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה עֲלֵי/כֶ֖ם לְ/הַשְׁמִ֣יד אֶתְ/כֶ֑ם וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֤ע יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔/י גַּ֖ם בַּ/פַּ֥עַם הַ/הִֽוא
And the LORD was very angry with Aaron, to haue destroyed him: And I prayed for Aaron also the same time.
GenevaLikewise ye Lord was very angrie with Aaron, euen to destroy him: but at that time I prayed also for Aaron.
וּֽ/בְ/אַהֲרֹ֗ן הִתְאַנַּ֧ף יְהוָ֛ה מְאֹ֖ד לְ/הַשְׁמִיד֑/וֹ וָֽ/אֶתְפַּלֵּ֛ל גַּם בְּעַ֥ד אַהֲרֹ֖ן בָּ/עֵ֥ת הַ/הִֽוא
And I tooke your sinne, the calfe which ye had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, and ground it very small, euen vntill it was as small as dust: and I cast the dust therof into the brooke that descended out of the mount.

וְֽ/אֶת חַטַּאתְ/כֶ֞ם אֲשֶׁר עֲשִׂיתֶ֣ם אֶת הָ/עֵ֗גֶל לָקַחְתִּי֮ וָ/אֶשְׂרֹ֣ף אֹת֣/וֹ בָּ/אֵשׁ֒ וָ/אֶכֹּ֨ת אֹת֤/וֹ טָחוֹן֙ הֵיטֵ֔ב עַ֥ד אֲשֶׁר דַּ֖ק לְ/עָפָ֑ר וָֽ/אַשְׁלִךְ֙ אֶת עֲפָר֔/וֹ אֶל הַ/נַּ֖חַל הַ/יֹּרֵ֥ד מִן הָ/הָֽר
And at Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth-Hattaauah, ye prouoked the LORD to wrath.
GenevaAlso in Taberah, and in Massah and in Kibrothhattaauah ye prouoked ye Lord to anger.
וּ/בְ/תַבְעֵרָה֙ וּ/בְ/מַסָּ֔ה וּ/בְ/קִבְרֹ֖ת הַֽתַּאֲוָ֑ה מַקְצִפִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם אֶת יְהוָֽה
Likewise when the LORD sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, Goe vp and possesse the land which I haue giuen you, then you rebelled against the commandement of the LORD your God, and ye beleeued him not, nor hearkened to his voyce.

וּ/בִ/שְׁלֹ֨חַ יְהוָ֜ה אֶתְ/כֶ֗ם מִ/קָּדֵ֤שׁ בַּרְנֵ֨עַ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר עֲלוּ֙ וּ/רְשׁ֣וּ אֶת הָ/אָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לָ/כֶ֑ם וַ/תַּמְר֗וּ אֶת פִּ֤י יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵי/כֶ֔ם וְ/לֹ֤א הֶֽאֱמַנְתֶּם֙ ל֔/וֹ וְ/לֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם בְּ/קֹלֽ/וֹ
You haue bin rebellious against the LORD, from the day that I knew you.
GenevaYe haue bene rebellious vnto the Lord, since the day that I knewe you.
מַמְרִ֥ים הֱיִיתֶ֖ם עִם יְהוָ֑ה מִ/יּ֖וֹם דַּעְתִּ֥/י אֶתְ/כֶֽם
Thus I fell downe before the LORD fourtie dayes, and fourtie nights, as I fel downe at the first, because the LORD had said, he would destroy you.
GenevaThen I fell downe before ye Lord fourtie dayes and fourtie nightes, as I fell downe before, because ye Lord had said, that he woulde destroy you.
וָֽ/אֶתְנַפַּ֞ל לִ/פְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה אֵ֣ת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים הַ/יּ֛וֹם וְ/אֶת אַרְבָּעִ֥ים הַ/לַּ֖יְלָה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִתְנַפָּ֑לְתִּי כִּֽי אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה לְ/הַשְׁמִ֥יד אֶתְ/כֶֽם
I prayed therefore vnto the LORD, and said, O Lord GOD, destroy not thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatnes, which thou hast brought foorth out of Egypt, with a mightie hand.
GenevaAnd I prayed vnto the Lord, and saide, O Lord God, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed through thy greatnesse, whom thou hast brought out of Egypt by a mightie hand.
וָ/אֶתְפַּלֵּ֣ל אֶל יְהוָה֮ וָ/אֹמַר֒ אֲדֹנָ֣/י יְהוִ֗ה אַל תַּשְׁחֵ֤ת עַמְּ/ךָ֙ וְ/נַחֲלָ֣תְ/ךָ֔ אֲשֶׁ֥ר פָּדִ֖יתָ בְּ/גָדְלֶ֑/ךָ אֲשֶׁר הוֹצֵ֥אתָ מִ/מִּצְרַ֖יִם בְּ/יָ֥ד חֲזָקָֽה
Remember thy seruants, Abraham, Isaac, and Iacob, looke not vnto the stubburnnesse of this people, nor to their wickednes, nor to their sinne:

זְכֹר֙ לַ/עֲבָדֶ֔י/ךָ לְ/אַבְרָהָ֥ם לְ/יִצְחָ֖ק וּֽ/לְ/יַעֲקֹ֑ב אַל תֵּ֗פֶן אֶל קְשִׁי֙ הָ/עָ֣ם הַ/זֶּ֔ה וְ/אֶל רִשְׁע֖/וֹ וְ/אֶל חַטָּאתֽ/וֹ
Lest the land whence thou broughtest vs out, say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which hee promised them, and because hee hated them, hee hath brought them out, to slay them in the wildernesse.
GenevaLest the countrey, whence thou broughtest them, say, Because ye Lord was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, or because he hated them, he caried them out, to slay them in the wildernesse.
פֶּן יֹאמְר֗וּ הָ/אָרֶץ֮ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הוֹצֵאתָ֣/נוּ מִ/שָּׁם֒ מִ/בְּלִי֙ יְכֹ֣לֶת יְהוָ֔ה לַ/הֲבִיאָ֕/ם אֶל הָ/אָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֣ר לָ/הֶ֑ם וּ/מִ/שִּׂנְאָת֣/וֹ אוֹתָ֔/ם הוֹצִיאָ֖/ם לַ/הֲמִתָ֥/ם בַּ/מִּדְבָּֽר
Yet they are thy people, and thine inheritance which thou broughtest out by thy mightie power, and by thy stretched out arme.
