Chapter 5
Ephesians 5
Be ye therefore followers of God, as deare children.
GenevaBee yee therefore followers of God, as deare children,
And walke in loue, as Christ also hath loued vs, and hath giuen himselfe for vs, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling sauour;
GenevaAnd walke in loue, euen as Christ hath loued vs, and hath giuen himselfe for vs, to be an offering and a sacrifice of a sweete smellling sauour to God.
But fornication and all vncleannesse, or couetousnesse, let it not be once named amongst you, as becommeth Saints:
GenevaBut fornication, and all vncleannesse, or couetousnesse, let it not be once named among you, as it becommeth Saintes,
Neither filthinesse, nor foolish talking, nor iesting, which are not conuenient: but rather giuing of thankes.
GenevaNeither filthinesse, neither foolish talking, neither iesting, which are things not comely, but rather giuing of thankes.
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor vncleane person, nor couetous man who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdome of Christ, and of God.
GenevaFor this ye know, that no whoremonger, neither vncleane person, nor couetous person, which is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdome of Christ, and of God.
Let no man deceiue you with vaine words: for because of these things commeth the wrath of God vpon the children of disobedience.
GenevaLet no man deceiue you with vaine wordes: for, for such thinges commeth the wrath of God vpon the children of disobedience.
Bee not yee therefore partakers with them.
GenevaBe not therefore companions with them.
For yee were sometimes darkenesse, but now are yee light in the Lord: walke as children of light,
GenevaFor ye were once darkenesse, but are nowe light in the Lord: walke as children of light,
(For the fruite of the spirit is in all goodnesse and righteousnesse & trueth.)
Geneva(For the fruit of the Spirit is in al goodnes, and righteousnes, and trueth)
Proouing what is acceptable vnto the Lord:
GenevaApprouing that which is pleasing to the Lord.
And haue no fellowship with the vnfruitfull workes of darkenesse, but rather reproue them.
GenevaAnd haue no fellowship with ye vnfruitfull works of darknes, but euen reproue them rather.
For it is a shame euen to speake of those things which are done of them in secret.
GenevaFor it is shame euen to speake of the things which are done of them in secret.
But all things that are reprooued, are made manifest by the light: for whatsoeuer doth make manifest, is light.
GenevaBut all thinges when they are reproued of the light, are manifest: for it is light that maketh all things manifest.
Wherfore hee saith: Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall giue thee light.
GenevaWherefore hee sayeth, Awake thou that sleepest, and stande vp from the deade, and Christ shall giue thee light.
See then that yee walke circumspectly, not as fooles, but as wise,
GenevaTake heede therefore that yee walke circumspectly, not as fooles, but as wise,
Redeming the time, because the dayes are euill.
GenevaRedeeming ye season: for ye daies are euill.
Wherefore be ye not vnwise, but vnderstanding what the will of the Lord is.
GenevaWherefore, be ye not vnwise, but vnderstand what the will of the Lord is.
And bee not drunke with wine, wherein is excesse: but bee filled with the Spirit:
GenevaAnd be not drunke with wine, wherein is excesse: but be fulfilled with the Spirit,
Speaking to your selues, in Psalmes, and Hymnes, and Spirituall songs, singing and making melodie in your heart to the Lord,
GenevaSpeaking vnto your selues in psalmes, and hymnes, and spirituall songs, singing, and making melodie to the Lord in your hearts,
Giuing thankes alwayes for all things vnto God, and the Father, in the Name of our Lord Iesus Christ,
GenevaGiuing thankes alwaies for all thinges vnto God euen the Father, in the Name of our Lord Iesus Christ,
Submitting your selues one to another in the feare of God.
GenevaSubmitting your selues one to another in the feare of God.
Wiues, submit your selues vnto your own husbands, as vnto the Lord.
GenevaWiues, submit your selues vnto your husbands, as vnto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, euen as Christ is the head of the Church: and he is the sauiour of the body.
GenevaFor the husband is the wiues head, euen as Christ is the head of the Church, and the same is the sauiour of his body.
Therefore as the Church is subiect vnto Christ, so let the wiues bee to their owne husbands in euery thing.
GenevaTherfore as the Church is in subiection to Christ, euen so let the wiues be to their husbands in euery thing.
Husbands, loue your wiues, euen as Christ also loued the Church, and gaue himselfe for it:
GenevaHusbands, loue your wiues, euen as Christ loued the Church, and gaue himselfe for it,
That he might sanctifie & cleanse it with the washing of water, by the word,
GenevaThat hee might sanctifie it, and clense it by the washing of water through the worde,
That hee might present it to himselfe a glorious Church, not hauing spot or wrinckle, or any such thing: but that it should bee holy and without blemish.
GenevaThat hee might make it vnto him selfe a glorious Church, not hauing spot or wrinkle, or any such thing: but that it shoulde bee holy and without blame.
So ought men to loue their wiues, as their owne bodies: hee that loueth his wife, loueth himselfe.
GenevaSo ought men to loue their wiues, as their owne bodies: he that loueth his wife, loueth him selfe.
For no man euer yet hated his owne flesh: but nourisheth and cherisheth it, euen as the Lord the Church:
GenevaFor no man euer yet hated his owne flesh, but nourisheth and cherisheth it, euen as the Lord doeth the Church.
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
GenevaFor we are members of his bodie, of his flesh, and of his bones.
For this cause shall a man leaue his father and mother, and shall be ioyned vnto his wife, and they two shalbe one flesh.
GenevaFor this cause shall a man leaue father and mother, and shall cleaue to his wife, and they twaine shalbe one flesh.
This is a great mysterie: but I speake concerning Christ and the Church.
GenevaThis is a great secrete, but I speake concerning Christ, and concerning the Church.
Neuerthelesse, let euery one of you in particular, so loue his wife euen as himselfe, and the wife see that she reuerence her husband.
GenevaTherefore euery one of you, doe ye so: let euery one loue his wife, euen as himselfe, and let the wife see that shee feare her husband.
