Now after these things, in the reigne of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the sonne of Azariah, the sonne of Hilkiah,

The sonne of Shallum, the sonne of Zadok, the sonne of Ahitub,

בֶּן אֲבִישׁ֗וּעַ בֶּן פִּֽינְחָס֙ בֶּן אֶלְעָזָ֔ר בֶּן אַהֲרֹ֥ן הַ/כֹּהֵ֖ן הָ/רֹֽאשׁ
This Ezra went vp from Babylon, and hee was a ready Scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had giuen: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God vpon him.
GenevaThis Ezra came vp from Babel, and was a Scribe prompt in the Lawe of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had giuen, and the King gaue him all his request according to the hande of the Lord his God which was vpon him.
ה֤וּא עֶזְרָא֙ עָלָ֣ה מִ/בָּבֶ֔ל וְ/הֽוּא סֹפֵ֤ר מָהִיר֙ בְּ/תוֹרַ֣ת מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁר נָתַ֥ן יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַ/יִּתֶּן ל֣/וֹ הַ/מֶּ֗לֶךְ כְּ/יַד יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהָי/ו֙ עָלָ֔י/ו כֹּ֖ל בַּקָּשָׁתֽ/וֹ
And there went vp some of the children of Israel, and of the Priests, and the Leuites, and the Singers, and the Porters, and the Nethinims, vnto Ierusalem, in the seuenth yeere of Artaxerxes the king.

וַ/יַּֽעֲל֣וּ מִ/בְּנֵֽי יִ֠שְׂרָאֵל וּ/מִן הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֨ים וְ/הַ/לְוִיִּ֜ם וְ/הַ/מְשֹׁרְרִ֧ים וְ/הַ/שֹּׁעֲרִ֛ים וְ/הַ/נְּתִינִ֖ים אֶל יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם בִּ/שְׁנַת שֶׁ֖בַע לְ/אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֥סְתְּא הַ/מֶּֽלֶךְ
And he came to Ierusalem in the fifth moneth, which was in the seuenth yeere of the king.

For vpon the first day of the first moneth, began he to go vp frō Babylon, and on the first day of the fifth moneth, came he to Ierusalem, according to the good hand of his God vpon him.

כִּ֗י בְּ/אֶחָד֙ לַ/חֹ֣דֶשׁ הָ/רִאשׁ֔וֹן ה֣וּא יְסֻ֔ד הַֽ/מַּעֲלָ֖ה מִ/בָּבֶ֑ל וּ/בְ/אֶחָ֞ד לַ/חֹ֣דֶשׁ הַ/חֲמִישִׁ֗י בָּ֚א אֶל יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם כְּ/יַד אֱלֹהָ֖י/ו הַ/טּוֹבָ֥ה עָלָֽי/ו
For Ezra had prepared his heart to seeke the Law of the LORD, and to doe it, and to teach in Israel, Statutes and Iudgements.

כִּ֤י עֶזְרָא֙ הֵכִ֣ין לְבָב֔/וֹ לִ/דְר֛וֹשׁ אֶת תּוֹרַ֥ת יְהוָ֖ה וְ/לַ/עֲשֹׂ֑ת וּ/לְ/לַמֵּ֥ד בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל חֹ֥ק וּ/מִשְׁפָּֽט
¶ Now this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gaue vnto Ezra the Priest, the Scribe, euen a Scribe of the words of the commandements of the LORD, and of his Statutes to Israel.

Artaxerxes king of kings, Unto Ezra the Priest, a Scribe of the Law of the God of heauen, Perfect peace, and at such a time.

אַ֨רְתַּחְשַׁ֔סְתְּא מֶ֖לֶךְ מַלְכַיָּ֑/א לְ/עֶזְרָ֣א כָ֠הֲנָ/א סָפַ֨ר דָּתָ֜/א דִּֽי אֱלָ֧הּ שְׁמַיָּ֛/א גְּמִ֖יר וּ/כְעֶֽנֶת
I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and of his Priests, and Leuites in my Realme, which are minded of their owne free-will to goe vp to Ierusalem, goe with thee.
GenevaI haue giuen commandement, that euery one, that is willing in my kingdome of the people of Israel, and of the Priestes, and Leuites to goe to Ierusalem with thee, shall goe.
מִנִּ/י֮ שִׂ֣ים טְעֵם֒ דִּ֣י כָל מִתְנַדַּ֣ב בְּ/מַלְכוּתִ/י֩ מִן עַמָּ֨/ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל וְ/כָהֲנ֣וֹ/הִי וְ/לֵוָיֵ֗/א לִ/מְהָ֧ךְ לִֽ/ירוּשְׁלֶ֛ם עִמָּ֖/ךְ יְהָֽךְ
Forasmuch as thou art sent of the king, and of his seuen counsellers, to enquire concerning Iudah and Ierusalem, according to the Lawe of thy God, which is in thine hand;

כָּ/ל קֳבֵ֗ל דִּי֩ מִן קֳדָ֨ם מַלְכָּ֜/א וְ/שִׁבְעַ֤ת יָעֲטֹ֨/הִי֙ שְׁלִ֔יחַ לְ/בַקָּרָ֥א עַל יְה֖וּד וְ/לִֽ/ירוּשְׁלֶ֑ם בְּ/דָ֥ת אֱלָהָ֖/ךְ דִּ֥י בִ/ידָֽ/ךְ
And to cary the siluer and gold, which the king and his counsellers haue freely offered vnto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Ierusalem.
GenevaAnd to carry the siluer and the gold, which the King and his cousellers willingly offer vnto the God of Israel (whose habitation is in Ierusalem)
וּ/לְ/הֵיבָלָ֖ה כְּסַ֣ף וּ/דְהַ֑ב דִּֽי מַלְכָּ֣/א וְ/יָעֲט֗וֹ/הִי הִתְנַדַּ֨בוּ֙ לֶ/אֱלָ֣הּ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל דִּ֥י בִֽ/ירוּשְׁלֶ֖ם מִשְׁכְּנֵֽ/הּ
And all the siluer and gold, that thou canst find in all the prouince of Babylon, with the free-will offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God, which is in Ierusalem:
GenevaAnd all the siluer and gold that thou canst finde in all the prouince of Babel, with the free offring of the people, and that which the Priestes offer willingly to the house of their God which is in Ierusalem,
וְ/כֹל֙ כְּסַ֣ף וּ/דְהַ֔ב דִּ֣י תְהַשְׁכַּ֔ח בְּ/כֹ֖ל מְדִינַ֣ת בָּבֶ֑ל עִם֩ הִתְנַדָּב֨וּת עַמָּ֤/א וְ/כָֽהֲנַיָּ/א֙ מִֽתְנַדְּבִ֔ין לְ/בֵ֥ית אֱלָהֲ/הֹ֖ם דִּ֥י בִ/ירוּשְׁלֶֽם
That thou maiest buy speedily with this money, bullockes, rammes, lambes, with their meate offerings, and their drinke offerings, and offer them vpon the altar of the house of your God, which is in Ierusalem.

כָּ/ל קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָה֩ אָסְפַּ֨רְנָא תִקְנֵ֜א בְּ/כַסְפָּ֣/א דְנָ֗ה תּוֹרִ֤ין דִּכְרִין֙ אִמְּרִ֔ין וּ/מִנְחָתְ/ה֖וֹן וְ/נִסְכֵּי/ה֑וֹן וּ/תְקָרֵ֣ב הִמּ֔וֹ עַֽל מַדְבְּחָ֔/ה דִּ֛י בֵּ֥ית אֱלָהֲ/כֹ֖ם דִּ֥י בִ/ירוּשְׁלֶֽם
And whatsoeuer shall seeme good to thee, and to thy brethren, to doe with the rest of the siluer and gold; that doe, after the will of your God.
GenevaAnd whatsoeuer it pleaseth thee and thy brethren to do with the rest of the siluer, and gold, doe ye it according to the will of your God.
וּ/מָ֣ה דִי֩ עלי/ך וְ/עַל אחי/ך יֵיטַ֗ב בִּ/שְׁאָ֛ר כַּסְפָּ֥/א וְ/דַהֲבָ֖/ה לְ/מֶעְבַּ֑ד כִּ/רְע֥וּת אֱלָהֲ/כֹ֖ם תַּעַבְדֽוּן
The vessels also that are giuen thee, for the seruice of the house of thy God, those deliuer thou before the God of Ierusalem.

וּ/מָֽאנַיָּ/א֙ דִּֽי מִתְיַהֲבִ֣ין לָ֔/ךְ לְ/פָלְחָ֖ן בֵּ֣ית אֱלָהָ֑/ךְ הַשְׁלֵ֕ם קֳדָ֖ם אֱלָ֥הּ יְרוּשְׁלֶֽם
And whatsoeuer more shall be needfull for the house of thy God, which thou shalt haue occasion to bestowe; bestowe it out of the kings treasure house.
GenevaAnd the residue that shall be needeful for the house of thy God, which shall be meete for thee to bestowe, thou shalt bestowe it out of the Kings treasure house,
וּ/שְׁאָ֗ר חַשְׁחוּת֙ בֵּ֣ית אֱלָהָ֔/ךְ דִּ֥י יִפֶּל לָ֖/ךְ לְ/מִנְתַּ֑ן תִּנְתֵּ֕ן מִן בֵּ֖ית גִּנְזֵ֥י מַלְכָּֽ/א
And I, euen I Artaxerxes the king, doe make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the riuer, that whatsoeuer Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heauen, shall require of you, it be done speedily,
GenevaAnd I King Artahshashte haue giuen commandemet to all the treasurers which are beyond the Riuer, that whatsoeuer Ezra the Priest and Scribe of the Law of the God of heauen shall require of you, that it be done incontinently,
וּ֠/מִנִּ/י אֲנָ֞ה אַרְתַּחְשַׁ֤סְתְּא מַלְכָּ/א֙ שִׂ֣ים טְעֵ֔ם לְ/כֹל֙ גִּזַּֽבְרַיָּ֔/א דִּ֖י בַּ/עֲבַ֣ר נַהֲרָ֑/ה דִּ֣י כָל דִּ֣י יִ֠שְׁאֲלֶנְ/כוֹן עֶזְרָ֨א כָהֲנָ֜/ה סָפַ֤ר דָּתָ/א֙ דִּֽי אֱלָ֣הּ שְׁמַיָּ֔/א אָסְפַּ֖רְנָא יִתְעֲבִֽד
Unto an hundred talents of siluer, and to an hundred measures of wheate, and to an hundred bathes of wine, and to an hundred bathes of oyle, and salt, without prescribing how much.

עַד כְּסַף֮ כַּכְּרִ֣ין מְאָה֒ וְ/עַד חִנְטִין֙ כֹּרִ֣ין מְאָ֔ה וְ/עַד חֲמַר֙ בַּתִּ֣ין מְאָ֔ה וְ/עַד בַּתִּ֥ין מְשַׁ֖ח מְאָ֑ה וּ/מְלַ֖ח דִּי לָ֥א כְתָֽב
Whatsoeuer is commanded by the God of heauen, let it be diligently done, for the house of the God of heauen: for why should there be wrath against the realme of the king and his sonnes?
GenevaWhatsoeuer is by the commandement of the God of heauen, let it be done speedily for the house of the God of heauen: for why should he be wroth against the realme of the King, and his children?
כָּל דִּ֗י מִן טַ֨עַם֙ אֱלָ֣הּ שְׁמַיָּ֔/א יִתְעֲבֵד֙ אַדְרַזְדָּ֔א לְ/בֵ֖ית אֱלָ֣הּ שְׁמַיָּ֑/א דִּֽי לְ/מָ֤ה לֶֽהֱוֵא֙ קְצַ֔ף עַל מַלְכ֥וּת מַלְכָּ֖/א וּ/בְנֽוֹ/הִי
Also we certifie you, that touching any of the priests, and Leuites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or ministers of this house of God, it shall not be lawfull to impose tolle, tribute, or custome vpon them.
GenevaAnd we certifie you, that vpon any of the Priestes, Leuites, singers, porters, Nethinims, or Ministers in this house of God, there shall no gouernour laye vpon them tolle, tribute nor custome.
וּ/לְ/כֹ֣ם מְהוֹדְעִ֗ין דִּ֣י כָל כָּהֲנַיָּ֣/א וְ֠/לֵוָיֵ/א זַמָּ֨רַיָּ֤/א תָרָֽעַיָּ/א֙ נְתִ֣ינַיָּ֔/א וּ/פָ֣לְחֵ֔י בֵּ֖ית אֱלָהָ֣/א דְנָ֑ה מִנְדָּ֤ה בְלוֹ֙ וַ/הֲלָ֔ךְ לָ֥א שַׁלִּ֖יט לְ/מִרְמֵ֥א עֲלֵי/הֹֽם
And thou, Ezra, after the wisdome of thy God, that is in thine hand, set magistrates and iudges, which may iudge all the people, that are beyond the riuer, all such as know the lawes of thy God, and teach yee them that knowe them not.

וְ/אַ֣נְתְּ עֶזְרָ֗א כְּ/חָכְמַ֨ת אֱלָהָ֤/ךְ דִּֽי בִ/ידָ/ךְ֙ מֶ֣נִּי שָׁפְטִ֞ין וְ/דַיָּנִ֗ין דִּי לֶהֱוֺ֤ן דאנין לְ/כָל עַמָּ/ה֙ דִּ֚י בַּ/עֲבַ֣ר נַהֲרָ֔/ה לְ/כָל יָדְעֵ֖י דָּתֵ֣י אֱלָהָ֑/ךְ וְ/דִ֧י לָ֦א יָדַ֖ע תְּהוֹדְעֽוּן
And whosoeuer will not doe the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let iudgement be executed speedily vpon him, whether it be vnto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
GenevaAnd whosoeuer will not doe the Lawe of thy God, and the Kings lawe, let him haue iudgement without delay, whether it be vnto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.
וְ/כָל דִּי לָא֩ לֶהֱוֵ֨א עָבֵ֜ד דָּתָ֣/א דִֽי אֱלָהָ֗/ךְ וְ/דָתָ/א֙ דִּ֣י מַלְכָּ֔/א אָסְפַּ֕רְנָא דִּינָ֕/ה לֶהֱוֵ֥א מִתְעֲבֵ֖ד מִנֵּ֑/הּ הֵ֤ן לְ/מוֹת֙ הֵ֣ן ל/שרשו הֵן לַ/עֲנָ֥שׁ נִכְסִ֖ין וְ/לֶ/אֱסוּרִֽין
¶ Blessed be the LORD God of our fathers, which hath put such a thing as this, in the kings heart, to beautifie the house of the LORD which is in Ierusalem:

בָּר֥וּךְ יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֣י אֲבוֹתֵ֑י/נוּ אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֤ן כָּ/זֹאת֙ בְּ/לֵ֣ב הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ לְ/פָאֵ֕ר אֶת בֵּ֥ית יְהוָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּ/ירוּשָׁלִָֽם
And hath extended mercy vnto me, before the king and his counsellers, and before all the kings mighty princes, and I was strengthned as the hand of the LORD my God was vpon me, and I gathered together out of Israel, chiefe men to goe vp with me.
GenevaAnd hath enclined mercy toward me, before the King and his counsellers, and before all the Kings mightie Princes: and I was comforted by the hand of the Lord my God which was vpon me, and I gathered the chiefe of Israel to goe vp with me.
וְ/עָלַ֣/י הִטָּה חֶ֗סֶד לִ/פְנֵ֤י הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ וְ/יֽוֹעֲצָ֔י/ו וּ/לְ/כָל שָׂרֵ֥י הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ הַ/גִּבֹּרִ֑ים וַ/אֲנִ֣י הִתְחַזַּ֗קְתִּי כְּ/יַד יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהַ/י֙ עָלַ֔/י וָ/אֶקְבְּצָ֧/ה מִ/יִּשְׂרָאֵ֛ל רָאשִׁ֖ים לַ/עֲל֥וֹת עִמִּֽ/י
