Genesis 26
And there was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the dayes of Abraham. And Isaac went vnto Abimelech King of the Philistims, vnto Gerar.
GenevaAnd there was a famine in the lande besides the first famine that was in the dayes of Abraham. Wherefore Izhak went to Abimelech King of the Philistims vnto Gerar.
וַ/יְהִ֤י רָעָב֙ בָּ/אָ֔רֶץ מִ/לְּ/בַד֙ הָ/רָעָ֣ב הָ/רִאשׁ֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָיָ֖ה בִּ/ימֵ֣י אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַ/יֵּ֧לֶךְ יִצְחָ֛ק אֶל אֲבִימֶּ֥לֶךְ מֶֽלֶךְ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים גְּרָֽרָ/ה
And the LORD appeared vnto him and said, Goe not downe into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of.
GenevaFor the Lord appeared vnto him, and sayde, Goe not downe into Egypt, but abide in the land which I shall shewe vnto thee.
וַ/יֵּרָ֤א אֵלָי/ו֙ יְהוָ֔ה וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר אַל תֵּרֵ֣ד מִצְרָ֑יְמָ/ה שְׁכֹ֣ן בָּ/אָ֔רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֖ר אֹמַ֥ר אֵלֶֽי/ךָ
Soiourne in this land, and I wil be with thee, and will blesse thee: for vnto thee, and vnto thy seed I will giue all these countreys, and I wil performe the othe, which I sware vnto Abraham thy father.
GenevaDwell in this lande, and I will be with thee, and will blesse thee: for to thee, and to thy seede I will giue all these countreys: and I will performe the othe which I sware vnto Abraham thy father.
גּ֚וּר בָּ/אָ֣רֶץ הַ/זֹּ֔את וְ/אֶֽהְיֶ֥ה עִמְּ/ךָ֖ וַ/אֲבָרְכֶ֑/ךָּ כִּֽי לְ/ךָ֣ וּֽ/לְ/זַרְעֲ/ךָ֗ אֶתֵּן֙ אֶת כָּל הָֽ/אֲרָצֹ֣ת הָ/אֵ֔ל וַ/הֲקִֽמֹתִי֙ אֶת הַ/שְּׁבֻעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖עְתִּי לְ/אַבְרָהָ֥ם אָבִֽי/ךָ
And I wil make thy seed to multiply as the starres of heauen, and will giue vnto thy seed all these countreys: and in thy Seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed:
GenevaAlso I wil cause thy seede to multiply as the starres of heauen, and will giue vnto thy seede all these countreys: and in thy seede shall all the nations of the earth be blessed,
וְ/הִרְבֵּיתִ֤י אֶֽת זַרְעֲ/ךָ֙ כְּ/כוֹכְבֵ֣י הַ/שָּׁמַ֔יִם וְ/נָתַתִּ֣י לְ/זַרְעֲ/ךָ֔ אֵ֥ת כָּל הָ/אֲרָצֹ֖ת הָ/אֵ֑ל וְ/הִתְבָּרֲכ֣וּ בְ/זַרְעֲ/ךָ֔ כֹּ֖ל גּוֹיֵ֥י הָ/אָֽרֶץ
Because that Abraham obeyed my voyce, and kept my charge, my Commandements, my Statutes and my Lawes.
GenevaBecause that Abraham obeyed my voyce and kept mine ordinance, my commandements, my statutes, and my Lawes.
עֵ֕קֶב אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַ֥ע אַבְרָהָ֖ם בְּ/קֹלִ֑/י וַ/יִּשְׁמֹר֙ מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֔/י מִצְוֺתַ֖/י חֻקּוֹתַ֥/י וְ/תוֹרֹתָֽ/י
¶ And Isaac dwelt in Gerar.
GenevaSo Izhak dwelt in Gerar.
וַ/יֵּ֥שֶׁב יִצְחָ֖ק בִּ/גְרָֽר
And the men of the place asked him of his wife: and he said, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the place should kill me for Rebekah, because shee was faire to looke vpon.
GenevaAnd the men of the place asked him of his wife, and he sayd, She is my sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife, least, sayde he, the men of the place shoulde kill me, because of Rebekah: for she was beautifull to the eye.
וַֽ/יִּשְׁאֲל֞וּ אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַ/מָּקוֹם֙ לְ/אִשְׁתּ֔/וֹ וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר אֲחֹ֣תִ/י הִ֑וא כִּ֤י יָרֵא֙ לֵ/אמֹ֣ר אִשְׁתִּ֔/י פֶּן יַֽהַרְגֻ֜/נִי אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַ/מָּקוֹם֙ עַל רִבְקָ֔ה כִּֽי טוֹבַ֥ת מַרְאֶ֖ה הִֽיא
And it came to passe when he had bene there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistims looked out at a window, and saw, and behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.
GenevaSo after hee had bene there long time, Abimelech King of the Philistims looked out at a windowe, and loe, he sawe Izhak sporting with Rebekah his wife.
וַ/יְהִ֗י כִּ֣י אָֽרְכוּ ל֥/וֹ שָׁם֙ הַ/יָּמִ֔ים וַ/יַּשְׁקֵ֗ף אֲבִימֶ֨לֶךְ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים בְּעַ֖ד הַֽ/חַלּ֑וֹן וַ/יַּ֗רְא וְ/הִנֵּ֤ה יִצְחָק֙ מְצַחֵ֔ק אֵ֖ת רִבְקָ֥ה אִשְׁתּֽ/וֹ
And Abimelech called Isaac and said, Behold, of a suretie she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister? And Isaac said vnto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her.
GenevaThen Abimelech called Izhak, and sayde, Loe, shee is of a suertie thy wife, and why saydest thou, She is my sister? To whom Izhak answered, Because I thought this, It may be that I shall dye for her.
וַ/יִּקְרָ֨א אֲבִימֶ֜לֶךְ לְ/יִצְחָ֗ק וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אַ֣ךְ הִנֵּ֤ה אִשְׁתְּ/ךָ֙ הִ֔וא וְ/אֵ֥יךְ אָמַ֖רְתָּ אֲחֹ֣תִ/י הִ֑וא וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָי/ו֙ יִצְחָ֔ק כִּ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי פֶּן אָמ֖וּת עָלֶֽי/הָ
And Abimelech said, What is this thou hast done vnto vs? one of the people might lightly haue lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest haue brought guiltinesse vpon vs.
GenevaThen Abimelech said, Why hast thou done this vnto vs? one of the people had almost lien by thy wife, so shouldest thou haue brought sinne vpon vs.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ מַה זֹּ֖את עָשִׂ֣יתָ לָּ֑/נוּ כִּ֠/מְעַט שָׁכַ֞ב אַחַ֤ד הָ/עָם֙ אֶת אִשְׁתֶּ֔/ךָ וְ/הֵבֵאתָ֥ עָלֵ֖י/נוּ אָשָֽׁם
And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, Hee that toucheth this man or his wife, shall surely bee put to death.
GenevaThen Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that toucheth this man, or his wife, shall die the death.
וַ/יְצַ֣ו אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ אֶת כָּל הָ/עָ֖ם לֵ/אמֹ֑ר הַ/נֹּגֵ֜עַ בָּ/אִ֥ישׁ הַ/זֶּ֛ה וּ/בְ/אִשְׁתּ֖/וֹ מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת
Then Isaac sowed in that land, and receiued in the same yeere an hundred fold: & the LORD blessed him.
GenevaAfterwarde Izhak sowed in that lande, and founde in the same yeere an hundreth folde by estimation: and so the Lord blessed him.
וַ/יִּזְרַ֤ע יִצְחָק֙ בָּ/אָ֣רֶץ הַ/הִ֔וא וַ/יִּמְצָ֛א בַּ/שָּׁנָ֥ה הַ/הִ֖וא מֵאָ֣ה שְׁעָרִ֑ים וַֽ/יְבָרֲכֵ֖/הוּ יְהוָֽה
And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew vntill he became very great.
GenevaAnd the man waxed mightie, and stil increased, till he was exceeding great,
וַ/יִּגְדַּ֖ל הָ/אִ֑ישׁ וַ/יֵּ֤לֶךְ הָלוֹךְ֙ וְ/גָדֵ֔ל עַ֥ד כִּֽי גָדַ֖ל מְאֹֽד
For he had possession of flocks, and possession of heards, and great store of seruants, and the Philistims enuied him.
GenevaFor he had flockes of sheepe, and heards of cattell, and a mightie housholde: therefore the Philistims had enuy at him.
וַֽ/יְהִי ל֤/וֹ מִקְנֵה צֹאן֙ וּ/מִקְנֵ֣ה בָקָ֔ר וַ/עֲבֻדָּ֖ה רַבָּ֑ה וַ/יְקַנְא֥וּ אֹת֖/וֹ פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים
For all the wels which his fathers seruants had digged in the dayes of Abraham his father, the Philistims had stopped them, & filled them with earth.
GenevaIn so much that the Philistims stopped and filled vp with earth all the welles, which his fathers seruantes digged in his father Abrahams time.
וְ/כָל הַ/בְּאֵרֹ֗ת אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ עַבְדֵ֣י אָבִ֔י/ו בִּ/ימֵ֖י אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֑י/ו סִתְּמ֣וּ/ם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וַ/יְמַלְא֖וּ/ם עָפָֽר
And Abimelech said vnto Isaac, Goe from vs: for thou art much mightier then we.
GenevaThen Abimelech sayde vnto Izhak, Get thee from vs, for thou art mightier then wee a great deale.
וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל יִצְחָ֑ק לֵ֚ךְ מֵֽ/עִמָּ֔/נוּ כִּֽי עָצַֽמְתָּ מִמֶּ֖/נּוּ מְאֹֽד
¶ And Isaac departed thence, and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
GenevaTherefore Izhak departed thence and pitched his tent in the valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.
וַ/יֵּ֥לֶךְ מִ/שָּׁ֖ם יִצְחָ֑ק וַ/יִּ֥חַן בְּ/נַֽחַל גְּרָ֖ר וַ/יֵּ֥שֶׁב שָֽׁם
And Isaac digged againe the wels of water, which they had digged in the dayes of Abraham his father: for the Philistims had stopped them after the death of Abraham, and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.
GenevaAnd Izhak returning, digged the welles of water, which they had digged in the dayes of Abraham his father: for the Philistims had stopped them after the death of Abraham, and hee gaue them the same names, which his father gaue them.
וַ/יָּ֨שָׁב יִצְחָ֜ק וַ/יַּחְפֹּ֣ר אֶת בְּאֵרֹ֣ת הַ/מַּ֗יִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר חָֽפְרוּ֙ בִּ/ימֵי֙ אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֔י/ו וַ/יְסַתְּמ֣וּ/ם פְּלִשְׁתִּ֔ים אַחֲרֵ֖י מ֣וֹת אַבְרָהָ֑ם וַ/יִּקְרָ֤א לָ/הֶן֙ שֵׁמ֔וֹת כַּ/שֵּׁמֹ֕ת אֲשֶׁר קָרָ֥א לָ/הֶ֖ן אָבִֽי/ו
And Isaacs seruants digged in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.
GenevaIzhaks seruantes then digged in the valley, and found there a well of liuing water.
וַ/יַּחְפְּר֥וּ עַבְדֵֽי יִצְחָ֖ק בַּ/נָּ֑חַל וַ/יִּ֨מְצְאוּ שָׁ֔ם בְּאֵ֖ר מַ֥יִם חַיִּֽים
And the heardmen of Gerar did striue with Isaacs heardmen, saying, The water is ours; and hee called the name of the well, Esek, because they stroue with him.
GenevaBut the herdmen of Gerar did striue with Izhaks herdmen, saying, The water is ours: therefore called he the name of the well Esek, because they were at strife with him.
וַ/יָּרִ֜יבוּ רֹעֵ֣י גְרָ֗ר עִם רֹעֵ֥י יִצְחָ֛ק לֵ/אמֹ֖ר לָ֣/נוּ הַ/מָּ֑יִם וַ/יִּקְרָ֤א שֵֽׁם הַ/בְּאֵר֙ עֵ֔שֶׂק כִּ֥י הִֽתְעַשְּׂק֖וּ עִמּֽ/וֹ
And they digged another well, and stroue for that also: and hee called the name of it, Sitnah.
GenevaAfterwarde they digged another well, and stroue for that also, and he called the name of it Sitnah.
וַֽ/יַּחְפְּרוּ֙ בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת וַ/יָּרִ֖יבוּ גַּם עָלֶ֑י/הָ וַ/יִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמָ֖/הּ שִׂטְנָֽה
And he remoued from thence, and digged another well, and for that they stroue not: and he called the name of it Rehoboth: and he said, For now the LORD hath made roome for vs, and we shall be fruitfull in the land.
GenevaThen he remoued thence, and digged an other well, for the which they stroue not: therefore called hee the name of it Rehoboth, and sayde, Because the Lord hath nowe made vs roome, we shall increase vpon the earth.
וַ/יַּעְתֵּ֣ק מִ/שָּׁ֗ם וַ/יַּחְפֹּר֙ בְּאֵ֣ר אַחֶ֔רֶת וְ/לֹ֥א רָב֖וּ עָלֶ֑י/הָ וַ/יִּקְרָ֤א שְׁמָ/הּ֙ רְחֹב֔וֹת וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר כִּֽי עַתָּ֞ה הִרְחִ֧יב יְהוָ֛ה לָ֖/נוּ וּ/פָרִ֥ינוּ בָ/אָֽרֶץ
And he went vp from thence to Beer-sheba.
GenevaSo he went vp thence to Beer-sheba.
וַ/יַּ֥עַל מִ/שָּׁ֖ם בְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע
And the LORD appeared vnto him the same night, and saide, I am the God of Abraham thy father: feare not, for I am with thee, and will blesse thee, and multiply thy seede, for my seruant Abrahams sake.
GenevaAnd the Lord appeared vnto him the same night, and sayde, I am the God of Abraham thy father: feare not, for I am with thee, and wil blesse thee, and will multiplie thy seede for my seruant Abrahams sake.
וַ/יֵּרָ֨א אֵלָ֤י/ו יְהוָה֙ בַּ/לַּ֣יְלָה הַ/ה֔וּא וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר אָנֹכִ֕י אֱלֹהֵ֖י אַבְרָהָ֣ם אָבִ֑י/ךָ אַל תִּירָא֙ כִּֽי אִתְּ/ךָ֣ אָנֹ֔כִי וּ/בֵֽרַכְתִּ֨י/ךָ֙ וְ/הִרְבֵּיתִ֣י אֶֽת זַרְעֲ/ךָ֔ בַּ/עֲב֖וּר אַבְרָהָ֥ם עַבְדִּֽ/י
And he builded an altar there, and called vpon the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there: and there Isaacs seruants digged a well.
GenevaThen he builte an altar there, and called vpon the Name of the Lord, and there spred his tent: where also Izhaks seruauntes digged a well.
וַ/יִּ֧בֶן שָׁ֣ם מִזְבֵּ֗חַ וַ/יִּקְרָא֙ בְּ/שֵׁ֣ם יְהוָ֔ה וַ/יֶּט שָׁ֖ם אָהֳל֑/וֹ וַ/יִּכְרוּ שָׁ֥ם עַבְדֵי יִצְחָ֖ק בְּאֵֽר
¶ Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friends, and Phichol the chiefe captaine of his armie.
GenevaThen came Abimelech to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath one of his friendes, and Phichol the captaine of his armie.
וַ/אֲבִימֶ֕לֶךְ הָלַ֥ךְ אֵלָ֖י/ו מִ/גְּרָ֑ר וַ/אֲחֻזַּת֙ מֵֽרֵעֵ֔/הוּ וּ/פִיכֹ֖ל שַׂר צְבָאֽ/וֹ
And Isaac saide vnto them, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate me, and haue sent me away from you?
GenevaTo whom Izhak sayd, Wherefore come ye to me, seeing ye hate mee and haue put mee away from you?
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֲלֵ/הֶם֙ יִצְחָ֔ק מַדּ֖וּעַ בָּאתֶ֣ם אֵלָ֑/י וְ/אַתֶּם֙ שְׂנֵאתֶ֣ם אֹתִ֔/י וַ/תְּשַׁלְּח֖וּ/נִי מֵ/אִתְּ/כֶֽם
And they said, we saw certainly that the LORD was with thee: and wee said, Let there be now an othe betwixt vs, euen betwixt vs and thee, and let vs make a couenant with thee,
GenevaWho answered, Wee sawe certainely that the Lord was with thee, and wee thought thus, Let there be nowe an othe betweene vs, euen betweene vs and thee, and let vs make a couenant with thee.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֗וּ רָא֣וֹ רָאִינוּ֮ כִּֽי הָיָ֣ה יְהוָ֣ה עִמָּ/ךְ֒ וַ/נֹּ֗אמֶר תְּהִ֨י נָ֥א אָלָ֛ה בֵּינוֹתֵ֖י/נוּ בֵּינֵ֣י/נוּ וּ/בֵינֶ֑/ךָ וְ/נִכְרְתָ֥ה בְרִ֖ית עִמָּֽ/ךְ
That thou wilt doe vs no hurt, as we haue not touched thee, and as we haue done vnto thee nothing but good, and haue sent thee away in peace: thou art now the blessed of the LORD.
GenevaIf thou shalt do vs no hurt, as we haue not touched thee, and as we haue done vnto thee nothing but good, and sent thee away in peace: thou nowe, the blessed of the Lord, doe this.
אִם תַּעֲשֵׂ֨ה עִמָּ֜/נוּ רָעָ֗ה כַּ/אֲשֶׁר֙ לֹ֣א נְגַֽעֲנ֔וּ/ךָ וְ/כַ/אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשִׂ֤ינוּ עִמְּ/ךָ֙ רַק ט֔וֹב וַ/נְּשַׁלֵּֽחֲ/ךָ֖ בְּ/שָׁל֑וֹם אַתָּ֥ה עַתָּ֖ה בְּר֥וּךְ יְהוָֽה
And he made them a feast, and they did eate and drinke.
GenevaThen hee made them a feast, and they dyd eate and drinke.
וַ/יַּ֤עַשׂ לָ/הֶם֙ מִשְׁתֶּ֔ה וַ/יֹּאכְל֖וּ וַ/יִּשְׁתּֽוּ
And they rose vp betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: and Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.
GenevaAnd they rose vp betimes in the morning, and sware one to another: then Izhak let them go, and they departed from him in peace.
וַ/יַּשְׁכִּ֣ימוּ בַ/בֹּ֔קֶר וַ/יִּשָּׁבְע֖וּ אִ֣ישׁ לְ/אָחִ֑י/ו וַ/יְשַׁלְּחֵ֣/ם יִצְחָ֔ק וַ/יֵּלְכ֥וּ מֵ/אִתּ֖/וֹ בְּ/שָׁלֽוֹם
And it came to passe the same day, that Isaacs seruants came, and tolde him concerning the well which they had digged, and said vnto him, we haue found water.
GenevaAnd that same day Izhaks seruantes came and tolde him of a well, which they had digged, and said vnto him, We haue found water.
וַ/יְהִ֣י בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֗וּא וַ/יָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ עַבְדֵ֣י יִצְחָ֔ק וַ/יַּגִּ֣דוּ ל֔/וֹ עַל אֹד֥וֹת הַ/בְּאֵ֖ר אֲשֶׁ֣ר חָפָ֑רוּ וַ/יֹּ֥אמְרוּ ל֖/וֹ מָצָ֥אנוּ מָֽיִם
And he called it Shebah: therefore the name of the citie is Beer-sheba vnto this day.
GenevaSo hee called it Shibah: therefore the name of the citie is called Beer-sheba vnto this day.
וַ/יִּקְרָ֥א אֹתָ֖/הּ שִׁבְעָ֑ה עַל כֵּ֤ן שֵׁם הָ/עִיר֙ בְּאֵ֣ר שֶׁ֔בַע עַ֖ד הַ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/זֶּֽה
¶ And Esau was forty yeeres old, when he tooke to wife Iudith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite:
GenevaNowe when Esau was fourtie yeere olde, he tooke to wife Iudith, the daughter of Beeri an Hittite, and Bashemath the daughter of Elon an Hittite also.
וַ/יְהִ֤י עֵשָׂו֙ בֶּן אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה וַ/יִּקַּ֤ח אִשָּׁה֙ אֶת יְהוּדִ֔ית בַּת בְּאֵרִ֖י הַֽ/חִתִּ֑י וְ/אֶת בָּ֣שְׂמַ֔ת בַּת אֵילֹ֖ן הַֽ/חִתִּֽי
Which were a griefe of minde vnto Isaac and to Rebekah.
GenevaAnd they were a griefe of minde to Izhak and to Rebekah.
וַ/תִּהְיֶ֖יןָ מֹ֣רַת ר֑וּחַ לְ/יִצְחָ֖ק וּ/לְ/רִבְקָֽה
