Isaiah 31

Woe to them that go down to Egypt for helpe, and stay on horses, and trust in charets, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong: but they looke not vnto the Holy one of Israel, neither seeke the LORD.

ה֣וֹי הַ/יֹּרְדִ֤ים מִצְרַ֨יִם֙ לְ/עֶזְרָ֔ה עַל סוּסִ֖ים יִשָּׁעֵ֑נוּ וַ/יִּבְטְח֨וּ עַל רֶ֜כֶב כִּ֣י רָ֗ב וְ/עַ֤ל פָּֽרָשִׁים֙ כִּֽי עָצְמ֣וּ מְאֹ֔ד וְ/לֹ֤א שָׁעוּ֙ עַל קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְ/אֶת יְהוָ֖ה לֹ֥א דָרָֽשׁוּ

Yet he also is wise, and will bring euill, and wil not call backe his words: but will arise against the house of the euill doers, and against the helpe of them that worke iniquitie.

GenevaBut he yet is wisest: therefore he wil bring euill, and not turne backe his worde, but he will arise against the house of the wicked, and against the helpe of them that worke vanitie.

וְ/גַם ה֤וּא חָכָם֙ וַ/יָּ֣בֵא רָ֔ע וְ/אֶת דְּבָרָ֖י/ו לֹ֣א הֵסִ֑יר וְ/קָם֙ עַל בֵּ֣ית מְרֵעִ֔ים וְ/עַל עֶזְרַ֖ת פֹּ֥עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן

Now the Egyptians are men and not God, and their horses flesh and not spirit: when the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall fall, and hee that is holpen shall fall downe, and they all shall faile together.

GenevaNow the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses flesh and not spirite: and when the Lord shall stretch out his hand, the helper shall fall, and hee that is holpen shall fall, and they shall altogether faile.

וּ/מִצְרַ֤יִם אָדָם֙ וְֽ/לֹא אֵ֔ל וְ/סוּסֵי/הֶ֥ם בָּשָׂ֖ר וְ/לֹא ר֑וּחַ וַֽ/יהוָ֞ה יַטֶּ֣ה יָד֗/וֹ וְ/כָשַׁ֤ל עוֹזֵר֙ וְ/נָפַ֣ל עָזֻ֔ר וְ/יַחְדָּ֖ו כֻּלָּ֥/ם יִכְלָיֽוּ/ן

For thus hath the LORD spoken vnto me; Like as the lyon and the yong lyon roaring on his pray, when a multitude of shepheards is called foorth against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himselfe for the noyse of them: so shall the LORD of hostes come downe to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

GenevaFor thus hath the Lord spoken vnto me, As the lyon or lyons whelpe roareth vpon his praye, against whom if a multitude of shepheards be called, hee will not be afraide at their voyce, neither will humble him selfe at their noise: so shall the Lord of hostes come downe to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

כִּ֣י כֹ֣ה אָֽמַר יְהוָ֣ה אֵלַ֡/י כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר יֶהְגֶּה֩ הָ/אַרְיֵ֨ה וְ/הַ/כְּפִ֜יר עַל טַרְפּ֗/וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִקָּרֵ֤א עָלָי/ו֙ מְלֹ֣א רֹעִ֔ים מִ/קּוֹלָ/ם֙ לֹ֣א יֵחָ֔ת וּ/מֵֽ/הֲמוֹנָ֖/ם לֹ֣א יַֽעֲנֶ֑ה כֵּ֗ן יֵרֵד֙ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת לִ/צְבֹּ֥א עַל הַר צִיּ֖וֹן וְ/עַל גִּבְעָתָֽ/הּ

As birds flying, so wil the LORD of hostes defend Ierusalem, defending also hee will deliuer it, and passing ouer, he will preserue it.

GenevaAs birds that flie, so shall the Lord of hostes defend Ierusalem by defending and deliuering, by passing through and preseruing it.

כְּ/צִפֳּרִ֣ים עָפ֔וֹת כֵּ֗ן יָגֵ֛ן יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת עַל יְרֽוּשָׁלִָ֑ם גָּנ֥וֹן וְ/הִצִּ֖יל פָּסֹ֥חַ וְ/הִמְלִֽיט

¶ Turne yee vnto him from whom the children of Israel haue deeply reuolted.

GenevaO ye children of Israel, turne againe, in as much as ye are sunken deepe in rebellion.

שׁ֗וּבוּ לַ/אֲשֶׁ֛ר הֶעְמִ֥יקוּ סָרָ֖ה בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל

For in that day euery man shall cast away his idoles of siluer, and his idoles of gold, which your owne hands haue made vnto you for a sinne.

GenevaFor in that day euery man shall cast out his idoles of siluer, and his idoles of golde, which your handes haue made you, euen a sinne.

כִּ֚י בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֔וּא יִמְאָס֗וּ/ן אִ֚ישׁ אֱלִילֵ֣י כַסְפּ֔/וֹ וֶ/אֱלִילֵ֖י זְהָב֑/וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשׂ֥וּ לָ/כֶ֛ם יְדֵי/כֶ֖ם חֵֽטְא

¶ Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mightie man; and the sword, not of a meane man, shal deuoure him: but hee shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be discomfited.

GenevaThen shall Asshur fall by the sworde, not of man, neither shall the sworde of man deuoure him, and hee shall flee from the sworde, and his yong men shall faint.

וְ/נָפַ֤ל אַשּׁוּר֙ בְּ/חֶ֣רֶב לֹא אִ֔ישׁ וְ/חֶ֥רֶב לֹֽא אָדָ֖ם תֹּֽאכֲלֶ֑/נּוּ וְ/נָ֥ס ל/וֹ֙ מִ/פְּנֵי חֶ֔רֶב וּ/בַחוּרָ֖י/ו לָ/מַ֥ס יִהְיֽוּ

And hee shall passe ouer to his strong holde for feare, and his princes shall be afraid of the ensigne, sayth the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his fornace in Ierusalem.

GenevaAnd he shall go for feare to his towre, and his princes shall be afraide of the standart, sayeth the Lord, whose fire is in Zion, and his fornace in Ierusalem.

וְ/סַלְע/וֹ֙ מִ/מָּג֣וֹר יַֽעֲב֔וֹר וְ/חַתּ֥וּ מִ/נֵּ֖ס שָׂרָ֑י/ו נְאֻם יְהוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁר א֥וּר ל/וֹ֙ בְּ/צִיּ֔וֹן וְ/תַנּ֥וּר ל֖/וֹ בִּ/ירוּשָׁלִָֽם
