Chapter 57
Isaiah 57
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart; and mercifull men are taken away none considering that the righteous is taken away from the euill to come.
GenevaThe righteous perisheth, and no man considereth it in heart: and mercifull men are taken away, and no man vnderstandeth that the righteous is taken away from the euill to come.
הַ/צַּדִּ֣יק אָבָ֔ד וְ/אֵ֥ין אִ֖ישׁ שָׂ֣ם עַל לֵ֑ב וְ/אַנְשֵׁי חֶ֤סֶד נֶֽאֱסָפִים֙ בְּ/אֵ֣ין מֵבִ֔ין כִּֽי מִ/פְּנֵ֥י הָ/רָעָ֖ה נֶאֱסַ֥ף הַ/צַּדִּֽיק
Hee shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his vprightnesse.
GenevaPeace shall come: they shall rest in their beds, euery one that walketh before him.
יָב֣וֹא שָׁל֔וֹם יָנ֖וּחוּ עַל מִשְׁכְּבוֹתָ֑/ם הֹלֵ֖ךְ נְכֹחֽ/וֹ
¶ But draw neere hither, yee sonnes of the sorceresse, the seed of the adulterer, and the whore.
GenevaBut you witches children, come hither, the seede of the adulterer and of the whore.
וְ/אַתֶּ֥ם קִרְבוּ הֵ֖נָּה בְּנֵ֣י עֹנְנָ֑ה זֶ֥רַע מְנָאֵ֖ף וַ/תִּזְנֶֽה
Against whom doe ye sport your selues? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seede of falsehood?
GenevaOn whome haue ye iested? vpon whome haue ye gaped and thrust out your tongue? are not ye rebellious children, and a false seede?
עַל מִי֙ תִּתְעַנָּ֔גוּ עַל מִ֛י תַּרְחִ֥יבוּ פֶ֖ה תַּאֲרִ֣יכוּ לָשׁ֑וֹן הֲ/לֽוֹא אַתֶּ֥ם יִלְדֵי פֶ֖שַׁע זֶ֥רַע שָֽׁקֶר
Inflaming your selues with idoles vnder euery greene tree, slaying the children in the valleys vnder the cliftes of the rockes?
GenevaInflamed with idoles vnder euery greene tree? and sacrificing the children in the valleys vnder the tops of the rocks?
הַ/נֵּֽחָמִים֙ בָּֽ/אֵלִ֔ים תַּ֖חַת כָּל עֵ֣ץ רַעֲנָ֑ן שֹׁחֲטֵ֤י הַ/יְלָדִים֙ בַּ/נְּחָלִ֔ים תַּ֖חַת סְעִפֵ֥י הַ/סְּלָעִֽים
Among the smooth stones of the streame is thy portion; they, they are thy lot: euen to them hast thou powred a drinke offering, thou hast offered a meate offering. Should I receiue comfort in these?

בְּ/חַלְּקֵי נַ֣חַל חֶלְקֵ֔/ךְ הֵ֥ם הֵ֖ם גּוֹרָלֵ֑/ךְ גַּם לָ/הֶ֞ם שָׁפַ֥כְתְּ נֶ֨סֶךְ֙ הֶעֱלִ֣ית מִנְחָ֔ה הַ֥/עַל אֵ֖לֶּה אֶנָּחֵֽם
Upon a loftie and high mountaine hast thou set thy bed: euen thither wentest thou vp to offer sacrifice.
GenevaThou hast made thy bed vpon a very hie mountaine: thou wentest vp thither, euen thither wentest thou to offer sacrifice.
עַ֤ל הַר גָּבֹ֨הַּ֙ וְ/נִשָּׂ֔א שַׂ֖מְתְּ מִשְׁכָּבֵ֑/ךְ גַּם שָׁ֥ם עָלִ֖ית לִ/זְבֹּ֥חַ זָֽבַח
Behinde the doores also and the posts hast thou set vp thy remembrance: for thou hast discouered thy selfe to an other then mee, and art gone vp: thou hast enlarged thy bed, and made a couenant with them: thou louedst their bed where thou sawest it.

וְ/אַחַ֤ר הַ/דֶּ֨לֶת֙ וְ/הַ/מְּזוּזָ֔ה שַׂ֖מְתְּ זִכְרוֹנֵ֑/ךְ כִּ֣י מֵ/אִתִּ֞/י גִּלִּ֣ית וַֽ/תַּעֲלִ֗י הִרְחַ֤בְתְּ מִשְׁכָּבֵ/ךְ֙ וַ/תִּכְרָת לָ֣/ךְ מֵ/הֶ֔ם אָהַ֥בְתְּ מִשְׁכָּבָ֖/ם יָ֥ד חָזִֽית
And thou wentest to the king with oyntment, and didst increase thy perfumes, and didst send thy messengers farre off, and didst debase thy selfe euen vnto hell.
GenevaThou wentest to the Kings with oyle, and diddest increase thine oyntments and sende thy messengers farre off, and diddest humble thy selfe vnto hell.
וַ/תָּשֻׁ֤רִי לַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ בַּ/שֶּׁ֔מֶן וַ/תַּרְבִּ֖י רִקֻּחָ֑יִ/ךְ וַ/תְּשַׁלְּחִ֤י צִרַ֨יִ/ךְ֙ עַד מֵ֣/רָחֹ֔ק וַ/תַּשְׁפִּ֖ילִי עַד שְׁאֽוֹל
Thou art wearied in the greatnesse of thy way; yet saydst thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found the life of thine hand; therefore thou wast not grieued.
GenevaThou weariedst thy selfe in thy manifolde iourneys, yet saydest thou not, There is no hope: thou hast found life by thine hand, therefore thou wast not grieued.
בְּ/רֹ֤ב דַּרְכֵּ/ךְ֙ יָגַ֔עַתְּ לֹ֥א אָמַ֖רְתְּ נוֹאָ֑שׁ חַיַּ֤ת יָדֵ/ךְ֙ מָצָ֔את עַל כֵּ֖ן לֹ֥א חָלִֽית
And of whom hast thou bene afraid or feared, that thou hast lyed, and hast not remembred me, nor layed it to thy heart? haue not I held my peace euen of old, and thou fearest me not?
GenevaAnd whome diddest thou reuerence or feare, seeing thou hast lyed vnto me, and hast not remembred me, neither set thy minde thereon? is it not because I holde my peace, and that of long time? therefore thou fearest not me.
וְ/אֶת מִ֞י דָּאַ֤גְתְּ וַ/תִּֽירְאִי֙ כִּ֣י תְכַזֵּ֔בִי וְ/אוֹתִ/י֙ לֹ֣א זָכַ֔רְתְּ לֹא שַׂ֖מְתְּ עַל לִבֵּ֑/ךְ הֲ/לֹ֨א אֲנִ֤י מַחְשֶׁה֙ וּ/מֵ֣/עֹלָ֔ם וְ/אוֹתִ֖/י לֹ֥א תִירָֽאִי
I will declare thy righteousnes; and thy workes, for they shall not profit thee.

אֲנִ֥י אַגִּ֖יד צִדְקָתֵ֑/ךְ וְ/אֶֽת מַעֲשַׂ֖יִ/ךְ וְ/לֹ֥א יוֹעִילֽוּ/ךְ
¶ When thou criest, let thy companies deliuer thee: but the winde shall cary them all away; Uanitie shall take them: but hee that putteth his trust in me, shall possesse the land, and shall inherit my holy mountaine.
GenevaWhen thou cryest, let them that thou hast gathered together deliuer thee: but the winde shall take them all away: vanitie shall pull them away: but he that trusteth in me, shall inherite the lande, and shall possesse mine holy Mountaine.
בְּ/זַֽעֲקֵ/ךְ֙ יַצִּילֻ֣/ךְ קִבּוּצַ֔יִ/ךְ וְ/אֶת כֻּלָּ֥/ם יִשָּׂא ר֖וּחַ יִקַּח הָ֑בֶל וְ/הַ/חוֹסֶ֥ה בִ/י֙ יִנְחַל אֶ֔רֶץ וְ/יִירַ֖שׁ הַר קָדְשִֽׁ/י
And shall say, Cast yee vp, cast yee vp; prepare the way, take vp the stumbling blocke out of the way of my people.

וְ/אָמַ֥ר סֹֽלּוּ סֹ֖לּוּ פַּנּוּ דָ֑רֶךְ הָרִ֥ימוּ מִכְשׁ֖וֹל מִ/דֶּ֥רֶךְ עַמִּֽ/י
For thus saith the High and loftie One that inhabiteth eternitie, whose Name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place: with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to reuiue the spirit of the humble, and to reuiue the heart of the contrite ones.

כִּי֩ כֹ֨ה אָמַ֜ר רָ֣ם וְ/נִשָּׂ֗א שֹׁכֵ֥ן עַד֙ וְ/קָד֣וֹשׁ שְׁמ֔/וֹ מָר֥וֹם וְ/קָד֖וֹשׁ אֶשְׁכּ֑וֹן וְ/אֶת דַּכָּא֙ וּ/שְׁפַל ר֔וּחַ לְ/הַחֲיוֹת֙ ר֣וּחַ שְׁפָלִ֔ים וּֽ/לְ/הַחֲי֖וֹת לֵ֥ב נִדְכָּאִֽים
For I will not contend for euer, neither will I be alwayes wroth: for the spirit should faile before me, and the soules which I haue made.

כִּ֣י לֹ֤א לְ/עוֹלָם֙ אָרִ֔יב וְ/לֹ֥א לָ/נֶ֖צַח אֶקְּצ֑וֹף כִּי ר֨וּחַ֙ מִ/לְּ/פָנַ֣/י יַֽעֲט֔וֹף וּ/נְשָׁמ֖וֹת אֲנִ֥י עָשִֽׂיתִי
For the iniquitie of his couetousnesse was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and hee went on frowardly in the way of his heart.
GenevaFor his wicked couetousnesse I am angry with him, and haue smitten him: I hid mee and was angry, yet he went away, and turned after the way of his owne heart.
בַּ/עֲוֺ֥ן בִּצְע֛/וֹ קָצַ֥פְתִּי וְ/אַכֵּ֖/הוּ הַסְתֵּ֣ר וְ/אֶקְצֹ֑ף וַ/יֵּ֥לֶךְ שׁוֹבָ֖ב בְּ/דֶ֥רֶךְ לִבּֽ/וֹ
I haue seene his wayes, and will heale him: I will leade him also, and restore comforts vnto him, and to his mourners.

דְּרָכָ֥י/ו רָאִ֖יתִי וְ/אֶרְפָּאֵ֑/הוּ וְ/אַנְחֵ֕/הוּ וַ/אֲשַׁלֵּ֧ם נִֽחֻמִ֛ים ל֖/וֹ וְ/לַ/אֲבֵלָֽי/ו
I create the fruite of the lippes; peace, peace to him that is farre off, and to him that is neere, sayth the LORD, and I will heale him.

בּוֹרֵ֖א נוב שְׂפָתָ֑יִם שָׁל֨וֹם שָׁל֜וֹם לָ/רָח֧וֹק וְ/לַ/קָּר֛וֹב אָמַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה וּ/רְפָאתִֽי/ו
But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast vp myre and dirt.

וְ/הָ/רְשָׁעִ֖ים כַּ/יָּ֣ם נִגְרָ֑שׁ כִּ֤י הַשְׁקֵט֙ לֹ֣א יוּכָ֔ל וַ/יִּגְרְשׁ֥וּ מֵימָ֖י/ו רֶ֥פֶשׁ וָ/טִֽיט
There is no peace, sayth my God, to the wicked.
