Job 22

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and said,

GenevaThen Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and sayde,

וַ֭/יַּעַן אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽ/תֵּמָנִ֗י וַ/יֹּאמַֽר

Can a man be profitable vnto God? as hee that is wise may be profitable vnto himselfe.

GenevaMay a man be profitable vnto God, as he that is wise, may be profitable to himselfe?

הַ/לְ/אֵ֥ל יִסְכָּן גָּ֑בֶר כִּֽי יִסְכֹּ֖ן עָלֵ֣י/מוֹ מַשְׂכִּֽיל

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gaine to him, that thou makest thy waies perfite?

GenevaIs it any thing vnto the Almightie, that thou art righteous? or is it profitable to him, that thou makest thy wayes vpright?

הַ/חֵ֣פֶץ לְ֭/שַׁדַּי כִּ֣י תִצְדָּ֑ק וְ/אִם בֶּ֝֗צַע כִּֽי תַתֵּ֥ם דְּרָכֶֽי/ךָ

Will hee reproue thee for feare of thee? will he enter with thee into iudgment?

GenevaIs it for feare of thee that he will accuse thee? or go with thee into iudgement?

הֲֽ֭/מִ/יִּרְאָ֣תְ/ךָ יֹכִיחֶ֑/ךָ יָב֥וֹא עִ֝מְּ/ךָ֗ בַּ/מִּשְׁפָּֽט

Is not thy wickednesse great? and thine iniquities infinite?

GenevaIs not thy wickednes great, and thine iniquities innumerable?

הֲ/לֹ֣א רָעָֽתְ/ךָ֣ רַבָּ֑ה וְ/אֵֽין קֵ֝֗ץ לַ/עֲוֺנֹתֶֽי/ךָ

For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

GenevaFor thou hast taken the pledge from thy brother for nought, and spoyled the clothes of the naked.

כִּֽי תַחְבֹּ֣ל אַחֶ֣י/ךָ חִנָּ֑ם וּ/בִגְדֵ֖י עֲרוּמִּ֣ים תַּפְשִֽׁיט

Thou hast not giuen water to the wearie to drinke, and thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.

GenevaTo such as were wearie, thou hast not giuen water to drinke, and hast withdrawen bread from the hungrie.

לֹא מַ֭יִם עָיֵ֣ף תַּשְׁקֶ֑ה וּ֝/מֵ/רָעֵ֗ב תִּֽמְנַֽע לָֽחֶם

But as for the mightie man, hee had the earth, and the honourable man dwelt in it.

GenevaBut the mightie man had the earth, and he that was in autoritie, dwelt in it.

וְ/אִ֣ישׁ זְ֭רוֹעַ ל֣/וֹ הָ/אָ֑רֶץ וּ/נְשׂ֥וּא פָ֝נִ֗ים יֵ֣שֶׁב בָּֽ/הּ

Thou hast sent widowes away emptie, and the armes of the fatherlesse haue bene broken.

GenevaThou hast cast out widowes emptie, and the armes of the fatherles were broken.

אַ֭לְמָנוֹת שִׁלַּ֣חְתָּ רֵיקָ֑ם וּ/זְרֹע֖וֹת יְתֹמִ֣ים יְדֻכָּֽא

Therefore snares are round about thee, and sudden feare troubleth thee,

GenevaTherefore snares are round about thee, and feare shall suddenly trouble thee:

עַל כֵּ֭ן סְבִיבוֹתֶ֣י/ךָ פַחִ֑ים וִֽ֝/יבַהֶלְ/ךָ פַּ֣חַד פִּתְאֹֽם

Or darkenes that thou canst not see, and abundance of waters couer thee.

GenevaOr darkenes that thou shouldest not see, and abundance of waters shall couer thee.

אוֹ חֹ֥שֶׁךְ לֹֽא תִרְאֶ֑ה וְֽ/שִׁפְעַת מַ֥יִם תְּכַסֶּֽ/ךָּ

Is not God in the height of heauen? and behold the height of the starres how high they are.

GenevaIs not God on hie in the heauen? and behold the height of the starres how hie they are.

הֲֽ/לֹא אֱ֭לוֹהַּ גֹּ֣בַהּ שָׁמָ֑יִם וּ/רְאֵ֤ה רֹ֖אשׁ כּוֹכָבִ֣ים כִּי רָֽמּוּ

And thou sayest, How doth God know? can he iudge through the darke cloude?

GenevaBut thou sayest, How should God know? can he iudge through the darke cloude?

וְֽ֭/אָמַרְתָּ מַה יָּ֣דַֽע אֵ֑ל הַ/בְעַ֖ד עֲרָפֶ֣ל יִשְׁפּֽוֹט

Thicke cloudes are a couering to him that he seeth not, and hee walketh in the circuit of heauen.

GenevaThe cloudes hide him that he can not see, and he walketh in the circle of heauen.

עָבִ֣ים סֵֽתֶר ל֭/וֹ וְ/לֹ֣א יִרְאֶ֑ה וְ/ח֥וּג שָׁ֝מַ֗יִם יִתְהַלָּֽךְ

Hast thou marked the olde way which wicked men haue troden?

GenevaHast thou marked the way of the worlde, wherein wicked men haue walked?

הַ/אֹ֣רַח עוֹלָ֣ם תִּשְׁמֹ֑ר אֲשֶׁ֖ר דָּרְכ֣וּ מְתֵי אָֽוֶן

Which were cut downe out of time, whose foundation was ouerflowen with a flood.

GenevaWhich were cut downe before the time, whose foundation was as a riuer that ouerflowed:

אֲשֶֽׁר קֻמְּט֥וּ וְ/לֹא עֵ֑ת נָ֝הָ֗ר יוּצַ֥ק יְסוֹדָֽ/ם

Which said vnto God, Depart from vs, and what can the Almightie doe for them?

GenevaWhich sayd vnto God, Depart from vs, and asked what the Almightie could do for them.

הָ/אֹמְרִ֣ים לָ֭/אֵל ס֣וּר מִמֶּ֑/נּוּ וּ/מַה יִּפְעַ֖ל שַׁדַּ֣י לָֽ/מוֹ

Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsell of the wicked is farre from me.

GenevaYet hee filled their houses with good things: but let the counsell of the wicked be farre from me.

וְ/ה֤וּא מִלֵּ֣א בָתֵּי/הֶ֣ם ט֑וֹב וַ/עֲצַ֥ת רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים רָ֣חֲקָה מֶֽ/נִּי

The righteous see it, and are glad, and the innocent laugh them to scorne.

GenevaThe righteous shall see them, and shall reioyce, and the innocent shall laugh them to scorne.

יִרְא֣וּ צַדִּיקִ֣ים וְ/יִשְׂמָ֑חוּ וְ֝/נָקִ֗י יִלְעַג לָֽ/מוֹ

Whereas our substance is not cut downe, but the remnant of them the fire consumeth.

GenevaSurely our substance is hid: but the fire hath deuoured the remnant of them.

אִם לֹ֣א נִכְחַ֣ד קִימָ֑/נוּ וְ֝/יִתְרָ֗/ם אָ֣כְלָה אֵֽשׁ

Acquaint now thy selfe with him, and be at peace: thereby good shal come vnto thee.

GenevaTherefore acquaint thy selfe, I pray thee, with him, and make peace: thereby thou shalt haue prosperitie.

הַסְכֶּן נָ֣א עִמּ֑/וֹ וּ/שְׁלם בָּ֝/הֶ֗ם תְּֽבוֹאַתְ/ךָ֥ טוֹבָֽה

Receiue, I pray thee, the Lawe from his mouth, and lay vp his words in thine heart.

GenevaReceiue, I pray thee, the law of his mouth, and lay vp his words in thine heart.

קַח נָ֣א מִ/פִּ֣י/ו תּוֹרָ֑ה וְ/שִׂ֥ים אֲ֝מָרָ֗י/ו בִּ/לְבָבֶֽ/ךָ

If thou returne to the Almightie, thou shalt be built vp, thou shalt put away iniquitie farre from thy tabernacles.

GenevaIf thou returne to the Almightie, thou shalt be buylt vp, and thou shalt put iniquitie farre from thy tabernacle.

אִם תָּשׁ֣וּב עַד שַׁ֭דַּי תִּבָּנֶ֑ה תַּרְחִ֥יק עַ֝וְלָ֗ה מֵ/אָהֳלֶֽ/ךָ

Then shalt thou lay vp golde as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brookes.

GenevaThou shalt lay vp golde for dust, and the gold of Ophir, as the flintes of the riuers.

וְ/שִׁית עַל עָפָ֥ר בָּ֑צֶר וּ/בְ/צ֖וּר נְחָלִ֣ים אוֹפִֽיר

Yea the Almightie shall bee thy defence, and thou shalt haue plenty of siluer.

GenevaYea, the Almightie shalbe thy defence, and thou shalt haue plentie of siluer.

וְ/הָיָ֣ה שַׁדַּ֣י בְּצָרֶ֑י/ךָ וְ/כֶ֖סֶף תּוֹעָפ֣וֹת לָֽ/ךְ

For then shalt thou haue thy delight in the Almightie, and shalt lift vp thy face vnto God.

GenevaAnd thou shalt then delite in the Almightie, and lift vp thy face vnto God.

כִּי אָ֭ז עַל שַׁדַּ֣י תִּתְעַנָּ֑ג וְ/תִשָּׂ֖א אֶל אֱל֣וֹהַּ פָּנֶֽי/ךָ

Thou shalt make thy prayer vnto him, and he shall heare thee, and thou shalt pay thy vowes.

GenevaThou shalt make thy praier vnto him, and he shall heare thee, and thou shalt render thy vowes.

תַּעְתִּ֣יר אֵ֭לָי/ו וְ/יִשְׁמָעֶ֑/ךָּ וּ/נְדָרֶ֥י/ךָ תְשַׁלֵּֽם

Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shal be established vnto thee: and the light shall shine vpon thy wayes.

GenevaThou shalt also decree a thing, and he shall establish it vnto thee, and the light shall shine vpon thy wayes.

וְֽ/תִגְזַר א֭וֹמֶר וְ/יָ֣קָם לָ֑/ךְ וְ/עַל דְּ֝רָכֶ֗י/ךָ נָ֣גַֽהּ אֽוֹר

When men are cast downe, then thou shalt say, There is lifting vp: and he shall saue the humble person.

GenevaWhen others are cast downe, then shalt thou say, I am lifted vp: and God shall saue the humble person.

כִּֽי הִ֭שְׁפִּילוּ וַ/תֹּ֣אמֶר גֵּוָ֑ה וְ/שַׁ֖ח עֵינַ֣יִם יוֹשִֽׁעַ

He shall deliuer the Iland of the innocent: and it is deliuered by the purenesse of thine hands.

GenevaThe innocent shall deliuer the yland, and it shalbe preserued by the purenes of thine hands.

יְֽמַלֵּ֥ט אִֽי נָקִ֑י וְ֝/נִמְלַ֗ט בְּ/בֹ֣ר כַּפֶּֽי/ךָ
