Chapter 7
Matthew 7
Iudge not, that ye be not iudged.
Geneva 1599Judge not, that ye be not iudged.
For with what iudgment ye iudge, yee shall be iudged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you againe.
Geneva 1599Eor with what iudgement ye iudge, ye shall be iudged, and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you againe.
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brothers eye, but considerest not the beame that is in thine owne eye?
Geneva 1599And why seest thou the mote, that is in thy brothers eye, and perceiuest not the beame that is in thine owne eye?
τί δὲ βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ σου, τὴν δὲ ἐν τῷ σῷ ὀφθαλμῷ δοκὸν οὐ κατανοεῖς;
Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let mee pull out the mote out of thine eye, and beholde, a beame is in thine owne eye?
Geneva 1599Or howe sayest thou to thy brother, Suffer me to cast out the mote out of thine eye, and beholde, a beame is in thine owne eye?
ἢ πῶς ἐρεῖς τῷ ἀδελφῷ σου· Ἄφες ἐκβάλω τὸ κάρφος ἐκ τοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ σου, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ δοκὸς ἐν τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ σοῦ;
Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beame out of thine owne eye: and then shalt thou see clearely to cast out the mote out of thy brothers eye.
Geneva 1599Hypocrite, first cast out that beame out of thine owne eye, and then shalt thou see clearely to cast out the mote out of thy brothers eye.
¶ Giue not that which is holy vnto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearles before swine: lest they trample them vnder their feete, and turne againe and rent you.
Geneva 1599Giue ye not that which is holy, to dogges, neither cast ye your pearles before swine, lest they treade them vnder their feete, and turning againe, all to rent you.
¶ Aske, and it shalbe giuen you: seeke, and ye shall finde: knocke, and it shalbe opened vnto you.
Geneva 1599Aske, and it shall be giuen you: seeke, and ye shall finde: knocke, and it shall be opened vnto you.
For euery one that asketh, receiueth: and he that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shalbe opened.
Geneva 1599For whosoeuer asketh, receiueth: and he, that seeketh, findeth: and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his sonne aske bread, will hee giue him a stone?
Geneva 1599For what man is there among you, which if his sonne aske him bread, woulde giue him a stone?
ἢ τίς ἐστιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ἄνθρωπος, ὃν αἰτήσει ὁ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἄρτον— μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;
Or if he aske a fish, will hee giue him a serpent?
Geneva 1599Or if he aske fish, wil he giue him a serpent?
ἢ καὶ ἰχθὺν αἰτήσει— μὴ ὄφιν ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;
If ye then being euill, know how to giue good giftes vnto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heauen, giue good things to them that aske him?
Geneva 1599If ye then, which are euill, can giue to your children good giftes, howe much more shall your Father which is in heauen, giue good thinges to them that aske him?
Therefore all things whatsoeuer ye would that men should doe to you, doe ye euen so to them: for this is the Law and the Prophets.
Geneva 1599Therefore whatsoeuer ye woulde that men should doe to you, euen so doe ye to them: for this is the Lawe and the Prophets.
¶ Enter ye in at the strait gate, for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which goe in thereat:
Geneva 1599Enter in at the streight gate: for it is the wide gate, and broade way that leadeth to destruction: and many there be which goe in thereat,
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way which leadeth vnto life, and few there be that finde it.
Geneva 1599Because the gate is streight, and the way narowe that leadeth vnto life, and fewe there be that finde it.
¶ Beware of false prophets which come to you in sheepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauening wolues.
Geneva 1599Beware of false prophets, which come to you, in sheepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauening wolues.
Yee shall knowe them by their fruits: Doe men gather grapes of thornes, or figges of thistles?
Geneva 1599Ye shall know them by their fruites. Doe men gather grapes of thornes? or figges of thistles?
ἀπὸ τῶν καρπῶν αὐτῶν ἐπιγνώσεσθε αὐτούς. μήτι συλλέγουσιν ἀπὸ ἀκανθῶν σταφυλὰς ἢ ἀπὸ τριβόλων σῦκα;
Euen so, euery good tree bringeth forth good fruit: but a corrupt tree bringeth forth euill fruit.
Geneva 1599So euery good tree bringeth foorth good fruite, and a corrupt tree bringeth forth euill fruite.
A good tree cannot bring forth euil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Geneva 1599A good tree can not bring forth euil fruite: neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruite.
Euery tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewen downe, and cast into the fire.
Geneva 1599Euery tree that bringeth not forth good fruite, is hewen downe, and cast into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Geneva 1599Therefore by their fruites ye shall knowe them.
¶ Not euery one that saith vnto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdome of heauen: but he that doth the will of my father which is in heauen.
Geneva 1599Not euery one that sayeth vnto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdome of heauen, but he that doeth my Fathers will which is in heauen.
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, haue we not prophecied in thy name? and in thy name haue cast out deuils? and in thy name done many wonderfull works?
Geneva 1599Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, haue we not by thy Name prophecied? and by thy name cast out deuils? and by thy name done many great workes?
πολλοὶ ἐροῦσίν μοι ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ· Κύριε κύριε, οὐ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι ἐπροφητεύσαμεν, καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι δαιμόνια ἐξεβάλομεν, καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι δυνάμεις πολλὰς ἐποιήσαμεν;
And then wil I professe vnto them, I neuer knew you: Depart from me, ye that worke iniquity.
Geneva 1599And then will I professe to them, I neuer knewe you: depart from me, ye that worke iniquitie.
¶ Therefore, whosoeuer heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I wil liken him vnto a wise man, which built his house vpon a rocke:
Geneva 1599Whosoeuer then heareth of mee these words, and doeth the same, I will liken him to a wise man, which hath builded his house on a rock:
And the raine descended, and the floods came, and the windes blew, and beat vpon that house: and it fell not, for it was founded vpon a rocke.
Geneva 1599And the raine fell, and the floods came, and the windes blewe, and beat vpon that house, and it fell not: for it was grounded on a rocke.
And euery one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall bee likened vnto a foolish man, which built his house vpon the sand:
Geneva 1599But whosoeuer heareth these my wordes, and doeth them not, shall be likened vnto a foolish man, which hath builded his house vpon the sand:
And the raine descended, and the floods came, and the windes blew, and beat vpon that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.
Geneva 1599And the raine fell, and the floods came, and the windes blewe, and beat vpon that house, and it fell, and the fall thereof was great.
And it came to passe, when Iesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine.
Geneva 1599And it came to passe, when Iesus had ended these wordes, the people were astonied at his doctrine.
For he taught them as one hauing authoritie, and not as the Scribes.
Geneva 1599For he taught them as one hauing authoritie, and not as the Scribes.
