Proverbs 31
The wordes of King Lemuel, the prophecie that his mother taught him.

דִּ֭בְרֵי לְמוּאֵ֣ל מֶ֑לֶךְ מַ֝שָּׂ֗א אֲֽשֶׁר יִסְּרַ֥תּ/וּ אִמּֽ/וֹ
What, my sonne! and what, the sonne of my wombe! and what, the sonne of my vowes!
GenevaWhat my sonne! and what ye sonne of my wombe! and what, O sonne of my desires!
מַה בְּ֭רִ/י וּ/מַֽה בַּר בִּטְנִ֑/י וּ֝/מֶה בַּר נְדָרָֽ/י
Giue not thy strength vnto women, nor thy wayes to that which destroyeth kings.
GenevaGiue not thy strength vnto women, nor thy wayes, which is to destroy Kings.
אַל תִּתֵּ֣ן לַ/נָּשִׁ֣ים חֵילֶ֑/ךָ וּ֝/דְרָכֶ֗י/ךָ לַֽ/מְח֥וֹת מְלָכִֽין
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drinke wine, nor for Princes, strong drinke:
GenevaIt is not for Kings, O Lemuel, it is not for Kings to drink wine nor for princes strog drinke,
אַ֤ל לַֽ/מְלָכִ֨ים לְֽמוֹאֵ֗ל אַ֣ל לַֽ/מְלָכִ֣ים שְׁתוֹ יָ֑יִן וּ֝/לְ/רוֹזְנִ֗ים או שֵׁכָֽר
Lest they drinke, and forget the Law, and peruert the iudgement of any of the afflicted.
GenevaLest he drinke and forget the decree, and change the iudgement of all the children of affliction.
פֶּן יִ֭שְׁתֶּה וְ/יִשְׁכַּ֣ח מְחֻקָּ֑ק וִֽ֝/ישַׁנֶּה דִּ֣ין כָּל בְּנֵי עֹֽנִי
Giue strong drinke vnto him that is ready to perish, and wine vnto those that be of heauie hearts.
GenevaGiue ye strong drinke vnto him that is readie to perish, and wine vnto them that haue griefe of heart.
תְּנוּ שֵׁכָ֣ר לְ/אוֹבֵ֑ד וְ֝/יַיִן לְ/מָ֣רֵי נָֽפֶשׁ
Let him drinke, and forget his pouertie, and remember his misery no more.
GenevaLet him drinke, that he may forget his pouertie, and remember his miserie no more.
יִ֭שְׁתֶּה וְ/יִשְׁכַּ֣ח רִישׁ֑/וֹ וַ֝/עֲמָל֗/וֹ לֹ֣א יִזְכָּר עֽוֹד
Open thy mouth for the dumbe in the cause of all such as are appointed to destruction.
GenevaOpen thy mouth for the domme in the cause of all the children of destruction.
פְּתַח פִּ֥י/ךָ לְ/אִלֵּ֑ם אֶל דִּ֝֗ין כָּל בְּנֵ֥י חֲלֽוֹף
Open thy mouth, iudge righteously, and plead the cause of the poore and needy.
GenevaOpen thy mouth: iudge righteously, and iudge the afflicted, and the poore.
פְּתַח פִּ֥י/ךָ שְׁפָט צֶ֑דֶק וְ֝/דִ֗ין עָנִ֥י וְ/אֶבְיֽוֹן
¶ Who can finde a vertuous woman? for her price is farre aboue Rubies.
GenevaWho shall finde a vertuous woman? for her price is farre aboue the pearles.
אֵֽשֶׁת חַ֭יִל מִ֣י יִמְצָ֑א וְ/רָחֹ֖ק מִ/פְּנִינִ֣ים מִכְרָֽ/הּ
The heart of her husband doeth safely trust in her, so that he shall haue no need of spoile.
GenevaThe heart of her husband trusteth in her, and he shall haue no neede of spoyle.
בָּ֣טַח בָּ֭/הּ לֵ֣ב בַּעְלָ֑/הּ וְ֝/שָׁלָ֗ל לֹ֣א יֶחְסָֽר
She will doe him good, and not euill, all the dayes of her life.
GenevaShe will doe him good, and not euill all the dayes of her life.
גְּמָלַ֣תְ/הוּ ט֣וֹב וְ/לֹא רָ֑ע כֹּ֝֗ל יְמֵ֣י חַיֶּֽי/ה
She seeketh wooll and flaxe, and worketh willingly with her hands.
GenevaShe seeketh wooll and flaxe, and laboureth cheerefully with her handes.
דָּ֭רְשָׁה צֶ֣מֶר וּ/פִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַ֝/תַּ֗עַשׂ בְּ/חֵ֣פֶץ כַּפֶּֽי/הָ
She is like the merchants ships, she bringeth her food from afarre.
GenevaShe is like the shippes of marchants: shee bringeth her foode from afarre.
הָ֭יְתָה כָּ/אֳנִיּ֣וֹת סוֹחֵ֑ר מִ֝/מֶּרְחָ֗ק תָּבִ֥יא לַחְמָֽ/הּ
Shee riseth also while it is yet night, and giueth meate to her household, and a portion to her maydens.
GenevaAnd she riseth, whiles it is yet night: and giueth the portion to her houshold, and the ordinarie to her maides.
וַ/תָּ֤קָם בְּ/ע֬וֹד לַ֗יְלָה וַ/תִּתֵּ֣ן טֶ֣רֶף לְ/בֵיתָ֑/הּ וְ֝/חֹ֗ק לְ/נַעֲרֹתֶֽי/הָ
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her handes she planteth a Uineyard.
GenevaShe considereth a field, and getteth it: and with the fruite of her handes she planteth a vineyarde.
זָמְמָ֣ה שָׂ֭דֶה וַ/תִּקָּחֵ֑/הוּ מִ/פְּרִ֥י כַ֝פֶּ֗י/הָ נטע כָּֽרֶם
She girdeth her loynes with strength, and strengtheneth her armes.
GenevaShe girdeth her loynes with strength, and strengtheneth her armes.
חָֽגְרָ֣ה בְ/ע֣וֹז מָתְנֶ֑י/הָ וַ֝/תְּאַמֵּ֗ץ זְרֹעוֹתֶֽי/הָ
She perceiueth that her merchandise is good; her candle goeth not out by night.
GenevaShe feeleth that her marchandise is good: her candle is not put out by night.
טָ֭עֲמָה כִּי ט֣וֹב סַחְרָ֑/הּ לֹֽא יִכְבֶּ֖ה ב/ליל נֵרָֽ/הּ
She layeth her handes to the spindle, and her handes hold the distaffe.
GenevaShe putteth her handes to the wherue, and her handes handle the spindle.
יָ֭דֶי/הָ שִׁלְּחָ֣ה בַ/כִּישׁ֑וֹר וְ֝/כַפֶּ֗י/הָ תָּ֣מְכוּ פָֽלֶךְ
She stretcheth out her hand to the poore, yea she reacheth foorth her handes to the needy.

כַּ֭פָּ/הּ פָּרְשָׂ֣ה לֶ/עָנִ֑י וְ֝/יָדֶ֗י/הָ שִׁלְּחָ֥ה לָֽ/אֶבְיֽוֹן
She is not afraid of the snow for her houshold: for all her houshold are cloathed with scarlet.
GenevaShe feareth not the snowe for her familie: for all her familie is clothed with skarlet.
לֹא תִירָ֣א לְ/בֵיתָ֣/הּ מִ/שָּׁ֑לֶג כִּ֥י כָל בֵּ֝יתָ֗/הּ לָבֻ֥שׁ שָׁנִֽים
She maketh herselfe couerings of tapestrie; her cloathing is silke and purple.
GenevaShe maketh her selfe carpets: fine linen and purple is her garment.
מַרְבַדִּ֥ים עָֽשְׂתָה לָּ֑/הּ שֵׁ֖שׁ וְ/אַרְגָּמָ֣ן לְבוּשָֽׁ/הּ
Her husband is knowen in the gates, when he sitteth among the Elders of the land.
GenevaHer husband is knowen in the gates, when he sitteth with the Elders of the land.
נוֹדָ֣ע בַּ/שְּׁעָרִ֣ים בַּעְלָ֑/הּ בְּ֝/שִׁבְתּ֗/וֹ עִם זִקְנֵי אָֽרֶץ
She maketh fine linnen, and selleth it, and deliuereth girdles vnto the merchant.
GenevaShe maketh sheetes, and selleth them, and giueth girdels vnto the marchant.
סָדִ֣ין עָ֭שְׂתָה וַ/תִּמְכֹּ֑ר וַ֝/חֲג֗וֹר נָתְנָ֥ה לַֽ/כְּנַעֲנִֽי
Strength and honour are her cloathing; and she shall reioyce in time to come.
GenevaStrength and honour is her clothing, and in the latter day she shall reioyce.
עֹז וְ/הָדָ֥ר לְבוּשָׁ֑/הּ וַ֝/תִּשְׂחַ֗ק לְ/י֣וֹם אַחֲרֽוֹן
She openeth her mouth with wisedome; and in her tongue is the law of kindnesse.
GenevaShe openeth her mouth with wisdome, and the lawe of grace is in her tongue.
פִּ֭י/הָ פָּתְחָ֣ה בְ/חָכְמָ֑ה וְ/תֽוֹרַת חֶ֝֗סֶד עַל לְשׁוֹנָֽ/הּ
She looketh well to the wayes of her housholde, and eateth not the bread of idlenesse.
GenevaShe ouerseeth the wayes of her housholde, and eateth not the bread of ydlenes.
צ֭וֹפִיָּה הֲלִיכ֣וֹת בֵּיתָ֑/הּ וְ/לֶ֥חֶם עַ֝צְל֗וּת לֹ֣א תֹאכֵֽל
Her children arise vp, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
GenevaHer children rise vp, and call her blessed: her husband also shall prayse her, saying,
קָ֣מוּ בָ֭נֶי/הָ וַֽ/יְאַשְּׁר֑וּ/הָ בַּ֝עְלָ֗/הּ וַֽ/יְהַֽלְלָ/הּ
Many daughters haue done vertuously, but thou excellest them all.
GenevaMany daughters haue done vertuously: but thou surmountest them all.
רַבּ֣וֹת בָּ֭נוֹת עָ֣שׂוּ חָ֑יִל וְ֝/אַ֗תְּ עָלִ֥ית עַל כֻּלָּֽ/נָה
Fauour is deceitfull, and beautie is vaine: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shalbe praised.
GenevaFauour is deceitfull, and beautie is vanitie: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praysed.
שֶׁ֣קֶר הַ֭/חֵן וְ/הֶ֣בֶל הַ/יֹּ֑פִי אִשָּׁ֥ה יִרְאַת יְ֝הוָ֗ה הִ֣יא תִתְהַלָּֽל
Giue her of the fruit of her hands, and let her owne workes praise her in the gates.
