1 Samuel 9
Now there was a man of Beniamin, whose name was Kish, the sonne of Abiel, the sonne of Zeror, the sonne of Bechorath, the sonne of Aphiah, a Beniamite, a mighty man of power.

וַֽ/יְהִי אִ֣ישׁ מ/בן ימין וּ֠/שְׁמ/וֹ קִ֣ישׁ בֶּן אֲבִיאֵ֞ל בֶּן צְר֧וֹר בֶּן בְּכוֹרַ֛ת בֶּן אֲפִ֖יחַ בֶּן אִ֣ישׁ יְמִינִ֑י גִּבּ֖וֹר חָֽיִל
And he had a sonne, whose name was Saul, a choice young man, and a goodly: and there was not among the children of Israel a goodlier person then hee: from his shoulders and vpward, hee was higher then any of the people.
GenevaAnd he had a sonne called Saul, a goodly yong man and a faire: so that among the children of Israel there was none goodlier then he: from the shoulders vpwarde he was hier then any of the people.
וְ/ל/וֹ הָיָ֨ה בֵ֜ן וּ/שְׁמ֤/וֹ שָׁאוּל֙ בָּח֣וּר וָ/ט֔וֹב וְ/אֵ֥ין אִ֛ישׁ מִ/בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ט֣וֹב מִמֶּ֑/נּוּ מִ/שִּׁכְמ֣/וֹ וָ/מַ֔עְלָ/ה גָּבֹ֖הַּ מִ/כָּל הָ/עָֽם
And the asses of Kish, Sauls father, were lost; and Kish said to Saul his sonne, Take nowe one of the seruants with thee, and arise, goe seeke the asses.
GenevaAnd the asses of Kish Sauls father were lost: therefore Kish said to Saul his sonne, Take nowe one of the seruants with thee, and arise, goe, and seeke the asses.
וַ/תֹּאבַ֨דְנָה֙ הָ/אֲתֹנ֔וֹת לְ/קִ֖ישׁ אֲבִ֣י שָׁא֑וּל וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר קִ֜ישׁ אֶל שָׁא֣וּל בְּנ֗/וֹ קַח נָ֤א אִתְּ/ךָ֙ אֶת אַחַ֣ד מֵֽ/הַ/נְּעָרִ֔ים וְ/ק֣וּם לֵ֔ךְ בַּקֵּ֖שׁ אֶת הָ/אֲתֹנֹֽת
And he passed thorow mount Ephraim, and passed thorow the land of Shalisha, but they found them not: then they passed thorow the land of Shalim, and there they were not: and hee passed thorow the land of the Beniamites, but they found them not.
GenevaSo he passed through mount Ephraim, and went through the lande of Shalishah, but they found them not. Then they went through the land of Shalim, and there they were not: he went also through ye land of Iemini, but they found the not.
וַ/יַּעֲבֹ֧ר בְּ/הַר אֶפְרַ֛יִם וַ/יַּעֲבֹ֥ר בְּ/אֶֽרֶץ שָׁלִ֖שָׁה וְ/לֹ֣א מָצָ֑אוּ וַ/יַּעַבְר֤וּ בְ/אֶֽרֶץ שַׁעֲלִים֙ וָ/אַ֔יִן וַ/יַּעֲבֹ֥ר בְּ/אֶֽרֶץ יְמִינִ֖י וְ/לֹ֥א מָצָֽאוּ
And when they were come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his seruant that was with him, Come, and let vs returne, lest my father leaue caring for the asses, and take thought for vs.
GenevaWhen they came to the lande of Zuph, Saul saide vnto his seruant that was with him, Come and let vs returne, lest my father leaue the care of asses, and take thought for vs.
הֵ֗מָּה בָּ֚אוּ בְּ/אֶ֣רֶץ צ֔וּף וְ/שָׁא֥וּל אָמַ֛ר לְ/נַעֲר֥/וֹ אֲשֶׁר עִמּ֖/וֹ לְכָ֣/ה וְ/נָשׁ֑וּבָה פֶּן יֶחְדַּ֥ל אָבִ֛/י מִן הָ/אֲתֹנ֖וֹת וְ/דָ֥אַג לָֽ/נוּ
And hee said vnto him, Behold now, there is in this citie a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith, commeth surely to passe: Now let vs goe thither; peraduenture he can shew vs our way that we should goe.
GenevaAnd he said vnto him, Behold nowe, in this citie is a man of God, and he is an honorable man: all that he saith commeth to passe: let vs nowe goe thither, if so be that he can shewe vs what way we may goe.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗/וֹ הִנֵּה נָ֤א אִישׁ אֱלֹהִים֙ בָּ/עִ֣יר הַ/זֹּ֔את וְ/הָ/אִ֣ישׁ נִכְבָּ֔ד כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר יְדַבֵּ֖ר בּ֣וֹא יָב֑וֹא עַתָּה֙ נֵ֣לֲכָה שָּׁ֔ם אוּלַי֙ יַגִּ֣יד לָ֔/נוּ אֶת דַּרְכֵּ֖/נוּ אֲשֶׁר הָלַ֥כְנוּ עָלֶֽי/הָ
Then said Saul to his seruaunt, But behold, if we goe, what shall wee bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: What haue wee?
GenevaThen saide Saul to his seruant, Well then, let vs goe: but what shall we bring vnto the man? For the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is no present to bring to the man of God: what haue we?
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֜וּל לְ/נַעֲר֗/וֹ וְ/הִנֵּ֣ה נֵלֵךְ֮ וּ/מַה נָּבִ֣יא לָ/אִישׁ֒ כִּ֤י הַ/לֶּ֨חֶם֙ אָזַ֣ל מִ/כֵּלֵ֔י/נוּ וּ/תְשׁוּרָ֥ה אֵין לְ/הָבִ֖יא לְ/אִ֣ישׁ הָ/אֱלֹהִ֑ים מָ֖ה אִתָּֽ/נוּ
And the seruant answered Saul againe, and said, Behold, I haue here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of siluer; that wil I giue to the man of God, to tell vs our way.
GenevaAnd the seruant answered Saul againe, and said, Beholde, I haue founde about me the fourth part of a shekell of siluer: that will I giue the man of God, to tell vs our way.
וַ/יֹּ֤סֶף הַ/נַּ֨עַר֙ לַ/עֲנ֣וֹת אֶת שָׁא֔וּל וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר הִנֵּה֙ נִמְצָ֣א בְ/יָדִ֔/י רֶ֖בַע שֶׁ֣קֶל כָּ֑סֶף וְ/נָֽתַתִּי֙ לְ/אִ֣ישׁ הָ/אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְ/הִגִּ֥יד לָ֖/נוּ אֶת דַּרְכֵּֽ/נוּ
(Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake; Come, and let vs go to the Seer: for he that is now called a Prophet, was beforetime called a Seer.)

לְ/פָנִ֣ים בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כֹּֽה אָמַ֤ר הָ/אִישׁ֙ בְּ/לֶכְתּ/וֹ֙ לִ/דְר֣וֹשׁ אֱלֹהִ֔ים לְכ֥וּ וְ/נֵלְכָ֖ה עַד הָ/רֹאֶ֑ה כִּ֤י לַ/נָּבִיא֙ הַ/יּ֔וֹם יִקָּרֵ֥א לְ/פָנִ֖ים הָ/רֹאֶֽה
Then said Saul to his seruant, Wel said, come, let vs go: so they went vnto the city where the man of God was.
GenevaThen saide Saul to his seruant, Well saide, come, let vs goe: so they went into the citie where the man of God was.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר שָׁא֧וּל לְ/נַעֲר֛/וֹ ט֥וֹב דְּבָרְ/ךָ֖ לְכָ֣/ה נֵלֵ֑כָה וַ/יֵּֽלְכוּ֙ אֶל הָ/עִ֔יר אֲשֶׁר שָׁ֖ם אִ֥ישׁ הָ/אֱלֹהִֽים
¶ And as they went vp the hill to the city, they found yong maydens going out to draw water, and said vnto them, Is the Seer here?
GenevaAnd as they were going vp the hie way to the citie, they found maydes that came out to draw water, and said vnto them, Is there here a Seer?
הֵ֗מָּה עֹלִים֙ בְּ/מַעֲלֵ֣ה הָ/עִ֔יר וְ/הֵ֨מָּה֙ מָצְא֣וּ נְעָר֔וֹת יֹצְא֖וֹת לִ/שְׁאֹ֣ב מָ֑יִם וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ לָ/הֶ֔ן הֲ/יֵ֥שׁ בָּ/זֶ֖ה הָ/רֹאֶֽה
And they answered them, and said, He is: behold, he is before you, make haste now: for he came to day to the citie; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the hie place.
GenevaAnd they answered them, and said, Yea: loe, he is before you: make haste nowe, for he came this day to the citie: for there is an offering of the people this day in the hie place.
וַ/תַּעֲנֶ֧ינָה אוֹתָ֛/ם וַ/תֹּאמַ֥רְנָה יֵּ֖שׁ הִנֵּ֣ה לְ/פָנֶ֑י/ךָ מַהֵ֣ר עַתָּ֗ה כִּ֤י הַ/יּוֹם֙ בָּ֣א לָ/עִ֔יר כִּ֣י זֶ֧בַח הַ/יּ֛וֹם לָ/עָ֖ם בַּ/בָּמָֽה
Assoone as ye be come into the citie, ye shall straightway finde him, before he goe vp to the high place to eate: for the people will not eate vntill hee come, because he doth blesse the sacrifice, and afterwards they eat that be bidden: Now therefore get you vp, for about this time ye shall finde him.
GenevaWhen ye shall come into the citie, ye shall finde him straightway yet he come vp to the hie place to eate: for the people will not eate vntill he come, because he will blesse the sacrifice: and then eate they that be bidden to the feast: nowe therefore goe vp: for euen now shall ye find him.
כְּ/בֹאֲ/כֶ֣ם הָ/עִ֣יר כֵּ֣ן תִּמְצְא֣וּ/ן אֹת֡/וֹ בְּ/טֶרֶם֩ יַעֲלֶ֨ה הַ/בָּמָ֜תָ/ה לֶ/אֱכֹ֗ל כִּ֠י לֹֽא יֹאכַ֤ל הָ/עָם֙ עַד בֹּא֔/וֹ כִּֽי הוּא֙ יְבָרֵ֣ךְ הַ/זֶּ֔בַח אַחֲרֵי כֵ֖ן יֹאכְל֣וּ הַ/קְּרֻאִ֑ים וְ/עַתָּ֣ה עֲל֔וּ כִּֽי אֹת֥/וֹ כְ/הַ/יּ֖וֹם תִּמְצְא֥וּ/ן אֹתֽ/וֹ
And they went vp into the citie: and when they were come into the citie, behold, Samuel came out against them, for to goe vp to the hie place.
GenevaThen they went vp into the citie, and when they were come into the middes of the citie, Samuel came out against them, to goe vp to the hie place.
וַֽ/יַּעֲל֖וּ הָ/עִ֑יר הֵ֗מָּה בָּאִים֙ בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הָ/עִ֔יר וְ/הִנֵּ֤ה שְׁמוּאֵל֙ יֹצֵ֣א לִ/קְרָאתָ֔/ם לַ/עֲל֖וֹת הַ/בָּמָֽה
¶ Now the LORD had told Samuel in his eare a day before Saul came, saying,
GenevaBut the Lord had reueiled to Samuel secretly (a day before Saul came) saying,
וַֽ/יהוָ֔ה גָּלָ֖ה אֶת אֹ֣זֶן שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל י֣וֹם אֶחָ֔ד לִ/פְנֵ֥י בֽוֹא שָׁא֖וּל לֵ/אמֹֽר
To morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Beniamin, and thou shalt anoynt him to be Captaine ouer my people Israel, that he may saue my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I haue looked vpon my people, because their cry is come vnto me.
GenevaTo morow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Beniamin: him shalt thou anoint to be gouernour ouer my people Israel, that he may saue my people out of the hands of the Philistims: for I haue looked vpon my people, and their crie is come vnto me.
כָּ/עֵ֣ת מָחָ֡ר אֶשְׁלַח֩ אֵלֶ֨י/ךָ אִ֜ישׁ מֵ/אֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ן וּ/מְשַׁחְתּ֤/וֹ לְ/נָגִיד֙ עַל עַמִּ֣/י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְ/הוֹשִׁ֥יעַ אֶת עַמִּ֖/י מִ/יַּ֣ד פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים כִּ֤י רָאִ֨יתִי֙ אֶת עַמִּ֔/י כִּ֛י בָּ֥אָה צַעֲקָת֖/וֹ אֵלָֽ/י
And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said vnto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of: this same shall reigne ouer my people.
GenevaWhen Samuel therefore sawe Saul, the Lord answered him, See, this is the man whom I spake to thee of, he shall rule my people.
וּ/שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל רָאָ֣ה אֶת שָׁא֑וּל וַ/יהוָ֣ה עָנָ֔/הוּ הִנֵּ֤ה הָ/אִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמַ֣רְתִּי אֵלֶ֔י/ךָ זֶ֖ה יַעְצֹ֥ר בְּ/עַמִּֽ/י
Then Saul drew neere to Samuel in the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the Seers house is.
GenevaThen went Saul to Samuel in the middes of the gate, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, where the Seers house is.
וַ/יִּגַּ֥שׁ שָׁא֛וּל אֶת שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הַ/שָּׁ֑עַר וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הַגִּֽידָ/ה נָּ֣א לִ֔/י אֵי זֶ֖ה בֵּ֥ית הָ/רֹאֶֽה
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, I am the Seer: Goe vp before me vnto the high place, for ye shall eate with me to day, and to morrow I will let thee goe, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
GenevaAnd Samuel answered Saul, and saide, I am the Seer: goe vp before me vnto the hie place: for ye shall eate with me to day. and to morowe I will let thee goe, and will tell thee all that is in thine heart.
וַ/יַּ֨עַן שְׁמוּאֵ֜ל אֶת שָׁא֗וּל וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אָנֹכִ֣י הָ/רֹאֶ֔ה עֲלֵ֤ה לְ/פָנַ/י֙ הַ/בָּמָ֔ה וַ/אֲכַלְתֶּ֥ם עִמִּ֖/י הַ/יּ֑וֹם וְ/שִׁלַּחְתִּ֣י/ךָ בַ/בֹּ֔קֶר וְ/כֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר בִּֽ/לְבָבְ/ךָ֖ אַגִּ֥יד לָֽ/ךְ
And as for thine asses that were lost three dayes agoe, set not thy minde on them, for they are found: And on whom is all the desire of Israel? is it not on thee, & on all thy fathers house?
GenevaAnd as for thine asses that were lost three dayes ago, care not for them: for they are founde. and on whom is set all the desire of Israel? is it not vpon thee and on all thy fathers house?
וְ/לָ/אֲתֹנ֞וֹת הָ/אֹבְד֣וֹת לְ/ךָ֗ הַ/יּוֹם֙ שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת הַ/יָּמִ֔ים אַל תָּ֧שֶׂם אֶֽת לִבְּ/ךָ֛ לָ/הֶ֖ם כִּ֣י נִמְצָ֑אוּ וּ/לְ/מִי֙ כָּל חֶמְדַּ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הֲ/ל֣וֹא לְ/ךָ֔ וּ/לְ/כֹ֖ל בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽי/ךָ
And Saul answered, and said, Am not I a Beniamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? and my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Beniamin? Wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
GenevaBut Saul answered, and said, Am not I the sonne of Iemini of the smallest tribe of Israel? and my familie is the least of all the families of the tribe of Beniamin. Wherefore then speakest thou so to me?
וַ/יַּ֨עַן שָׁא֜וּל וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר הֲ/ל֨וֹא בֶן יְמִינִ֤י אָ֨נֹכִי֙ מִ/קַּטַנֵּי֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּ/מִשְׁפַּחְתִּ/י֙ הַ/צְּעִרָ֔ה מִ/כָּֽל מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת שִׁבְטֵ֣י בִנְיָמִ֑ן וְ/לָ֨/מָּה֙ דִּבַּ֣רְתָּ אֵלַ֔/י כַּ/דָּבָ֖ר הַ/זֶּֽה
And Samuel tooke Saul, and his seruant, and brought them into the parlour, & made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden, which were about thirtie persons.

וַ/יִּקַּ֤ח שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶת שָׁא֣וּל וְ/אֶֽת נַעֲר֔/וֹ וַ/יְבִיאֵ֖/ם לִשְׁכָּ֑תָ/ה וַ/יִּתֵּ֨ן לָ/הֶ֤ם מָקוֹם֙ בְּ/רֹ֣אשׁ הַ/קְּרוּאִ֔ים וְ/הֵ֖מָּה כִּ/שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים אִֽישׁ
And Samuel said vnto the cooke, Bring the portion which I gaue thee, of which I said vnto thee, Set it by thee.
GenevaAnd Samuel saide vnto the cooke, Bring foorth the portion which I gaue thee, and whereof I said vnto thee, Keepe it with thee.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵל֙ לַ/טַּבָּ֔ח תְּנָ/ה֙ אֶת הַ/מָּנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לָ֑/ךְ אֲשֶׁר֙ אָמַ֣רְתִּי אֵלֶ֔י/ךָ שִׂ֥ים אֹתָ֖/הּ עִמָּֽ/ךְ
And the cooke took vp the shoulder, and that which was vpon it, and set it before Saul, and Samuel said, Behold, that which is left, set it before thee, and eate: for vnto this time hath it bene kept for thee, since I said I haue inuited the people: So Saul did eat with Samuel that day.
GenevaAnd the cooke tooke vp the shoulder, and that which was vpon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Beholde, that which is left, set it before thee and eate: for hitherto hath it bene kept for thee, saying, Also I haue called the people. So Saul did eate with Samuel that day.
וַ/יָּ֣רֶם הַ֠/טַּבָּח אֶת הַ/שּׁ֨וֹק וְ/הֶ/עָלֶ֜י/הָ וַ/יָּ֣שֶׂם לִ/פְנֵ֣י שָׁא֗וּל וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ הִנֵּ֤ה הַ/נִּשְׁאָר֙ שִׂים לְ/פָנֶ֣י/ךָ אֱכֹ֔ל כִּ֧י לַ/מּוֹעֵ֛ד שָֽׁמוּר לְ/ךָ֥ לֵ/אמֹ֖ר הָ/עָ֣ם קָרָ֑אתִי וַ/יֹּ֧אכַל שָׁא֛וּל עִם שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל בַּ/יּ֥וֹם הַ/הֽוּא
¶ And when they were come downe from the high place into the citie, Samuel communed with Saul vpon the top of the house.
GenevaAnd when they were come downe from the hie place into the citie, he communed with Saul vpon the top of the house.
וַ/יֵּרְד֥וּ מֵ/הַ/בָּמָ֖ה הָ/עִ֑יר וַ/יְדַבֵּ֥ר עִם שָׁא֖וּל עַל הַ/גָּֽג
And they arose early: and it came to passe about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away: And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, hee and Samuel, abroad.
GenevaAnd when they arose early about ye spring of the day, Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Vp, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out, both he, and Samuel.
וַ/יַּשְׁכִּ֗מוּ וַ/יְהִ֞י כַּ/עֲל֤וֹת הַ/שַּׁ֨חַר֙ וַ/יִּקְרָ֨א שְׁמוּאֵ֤ל אֶל שָׁאוּל֙ ה/גג לֵ/אמֹ֔ר ק֖וּמָ/ה וַ/אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑/ךָּ וַ/יָּ֣קָם שָׁא֗וּל וַ/יֵּצְא֧וּ שְׁנֵי/הֶ֛ם ה֥וּא וּ/שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל הַ/חֽוּצָ/ה
And as they were going downe to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the seruant passe on before vs, (and he passed on) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.
GenevaAnd when they were come downe to the ende of the citie, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the seruant goe before vs, (and he went) but stand thou still nowe, that I may shewe thee the worde of God.
הֵ֗מָּה יֽוֹרְדִים֙ בִּ/קְצֵ֣ה הָ/עִ֔יר וּ/שְׁמוּאֵ֞ל אָמַ֣ר אֶל שָׁא֗וּל אֱמֹ֥ר לַ/נַּ֛עַר וְ/יַעֲבֹ֥ר לְ/פָנֵ֖י/נוּ וַֽ/יַּעֲבֹ֑ר וְ/אַתָּה֙ עֲמֹ֣ד כַּ/יּ֔וֹם וְ/אַשְׁמִיעֲ/ךָ֖ אֶת דְּבַ֥ר אֱלֹהִֽים
