And it came to passe after this, that Absalom prepared him charets and horses, and fiftie men to runne before him.

וַֽ/יְהִי֙ מֵ/אַ֣חֲרֵי כֵ֔ן וַ/יַּ֤עַשׂ ל/וֹ֙ אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם מֶרְכָּבָ֖ה וְ/סֻסִ֑ים וַ/חֲמִשִּׁ֥ים אִ֖ישׁ רָצִ֥ים לְ/פָנָֽי/ו
And Absalom rose vp earely, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controuersie, came to the king for iudgment, then Absalom called vnto him, and said, Of what citie art thou? And he said, Thy seruant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
GenevaAnd Absalom rose vp early, and stoode hard by the entring in of the gate: and euery man that had any matter, and came to the King for iudgement, him did Absalom call vnto him, and sayde, Of what citie art thou? And he answered, Thy seruant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
וְ/הִשְׁכִּים֙ אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם וְ/עָמַ֕ד עַל יַ֖ד דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַ/שָּׁ֑עַר וַ/יְהִ֡י כָּל הָ/אִ֣ישׁ אֲשֶֽׁר יִהְיֶה לּ/וֹ רִיב֩ לָ/ב֨וֹא אֶל הַ/מֶּ֜לֶךְ לַ/מִּשְׁפָּ֗ט וַ/יִּקְרָ֨א אַבְשָׁל֤וֹם אֵלָי/ו֙ וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר אֵֽי מִ/זֶּ֥ה עִיר֙ אַ֔תָּה וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר מֵ/אַחַ֥ד שִׁבְטֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַבְדֶּֽ/ךָ
And Absalom said vnto him, See, thy matters are good & right, but there is no man deputed of the king to heare thee.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָי/ו֙ אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם רְאֵ֥ה דְבָרֶ֖/ךָ טוֹבִ֣ים וּ/נְכֹחִ֑ים וְ/שֹׁמֵ֥עַ אֵין לְ/ךָ֖ מֵ/אֵ֥ת הַ/מֶּֽלֶךְ
Absalom said moreouer, Oh that I were made Iudge in the land, that euery man which hath any suit or cause, might come vnto me, and I would do him iustice.

וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם מִי יְשִׂמֵ֥/נִי שֹׁפֵ֖ט בָּ/אָ֑רֶץ וְ/עָלַ֗/י יָב֥וֹא כָּל אִ֛ישׁ אֲשֶֽׁר יִהְיֶה לּ/וֹ רִ֥יב וּ/מִשְׁפָּ֖ט וְ/הִצְדַּקְתִּֽי/ו
And it was so, that when any man came nigh to him, to doe him obeisance, he put foorth his hand, and tooke him, and kissed him.
GenevaAnd when any man came neere to him, and did him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and tooke him, and kissed him.
וְ/הָיָה֙ בִּ/קְרָב אִ֔ישׁ לְ/הִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֖ת ל֑/וֹ וְ/שָׁלַ֧ח אֶת יָד֛/וֹ וְ/הֶחֱזִ֥יק ל֖/וֹ וְ/נָ֥שַׁק לֽ/וֹ
And on this maner did Absalom to all Israel, that came to the King for iudgement: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

וַ/יַּ֨עַשׂ אַבְשָׁל֜וֹם כַּ/דָּבָ֤ר הַ/זֶּה֙ לְ/כָל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר יָבֹ֥אוּ לַ/מִּשְׁפָּ֖ט אֶל הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ וַ/יְגַנֵּב֙ אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם אֶת לֵ֖ב אַנְשֵׁ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
¶ And it came to passe after fourtie yeeres, that Absalom said vnto the king, I pray thee, let mee goe and pay my vow which I haue vowed vnto the LORD in Hebron.
GenevaAnd after fourtie yeeres, Absalom sayd vnto the King, I pray thee, let me go to Hebron, and render my vowe which I haue vowed vnto the Lord.
וַ/יְהִ֕י מִ/קֵּ֖ץ אַרְבָּעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֑ה וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ אֶל הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֣לֲכָה נָּ֗א וַ/אֲשַׁלֵּ֛ם אֶת נִדְרִ֛/י אֲשֶׁר נָדַ֥רְתִּי לַֽ/יהוָ֖ה בְּ/חֶבְרֽוֹן
For thy seruant vowed a vowe while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring mee againe in deed to Ierusalem, then I will serue the LORD.
GenevaFor thy seruant vowed a vowe when I remayned at Geshur, in Aram, saying, If the Lord shall bring me againe in deede to Ierusalem, I will serue the Lord.
כִּי נֵ֨דֶר֙ נָדַ֣ר עַבְדְּ/ךָ֔ בְּ/שִׁבְתִּ֥/י בִ/גְשׁ֛וּר בַּ/אֲרָ֖ם לֵ/אמֹ֑ר אִם ישיב יְשִׁיבֵ֤/נִי יְהוָה֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וְ/עָבַדְתִּ֖י אֶת יְהוָֽה
And the king said vnto him, Goe in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.

¶ But Absalom sent spies thorowout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soone as yee heare the sound of the trumpet, then yee shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.
GenevaThen Absalom sent spyes throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, When yee heare the sound of the trumpet, Ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron.
וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֤ח אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ מְרַגְּלִ֔ים בְּ/כָל שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לֵ/אמֹ֑ר כְּ/שָׁמְעֲ/כֶם֙ אֶת ק֣וֹל הַ/שֹּׁפָ֔ר וַ/אֲמַרְתֶּ֕ם מָלַ֥ךְ אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם בְּ/חֶבְרֽוֹן
And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Ierusalem, that were called, and they went in their simplicitie, and they knew not any thing.

וְ/אֶת אַבְשָׁל֗וֹם הָלְכ֞וּ מָאתַ֤יִם אִישׁ֙ מִ/יר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם קְרֻאִ֖ים וְ/הֹלְכִ֣ים לְ/תֻמָּ֑/ם וְ/לֹ֥א יָדְע֖וּ כָּל דָּבָֽר
And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, Dauids counseller, from his citie, euen from Giloh, while he offered sacrifices: and the conspiracie was strong, for the people encreased continually with Absalom.

וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח אַ֠בְשָׁלוֹם אֶת אֲחִיתֹ֨פֶל הַ/גִּֽילֹנִ֜י יוֹעֵ֣ץ דָּוִ֗ד מֵֽ/עִיר/וֹ֙ מִ/גִּלֹ֔ה בְּ/זָבְח֖/וֹ אֶת הַ/זְּבָחִ֑ים וַ/יְהִ֤י הַ/קֶּ֨שֶׁר֙ אַמִּ֔ץ וְ/הָ/עָ֛ם הוֹלֵ֥ךְ וָ/רָ֖ב אֶת אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם
¶ And there came a messenger to Dauid, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.
GenevaThen came a messenger to Dauid, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are turned after Absalom.
וַ/יָּבֹא֙ הַ/מַּגִּ֔יד אֶל דָּוִ֖ד לֵ/אמֹ֑ר הָיָ֛ה לֶב אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אַחֲרֵ֥י אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם
And Dauid said vnto all his seruants that were with him at Ierusalem, Arise, and let vs flee; for wee shall not else escape from Absalom: make speede to depart, lest hee ouertake vs suddenly, and bring euill vpon vs, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּ֠וִד לְ/כָל עֲבָדָ֨י/ו אֲשֶׁר אִתּ֤/וֹ בִ/ירוּשָׁלִַ֨ם֙ ק֣וּמוּ וְ/נִבְרָ֔חָה כִּ֛י לֹא תִֽהְיֶה לָּ֥/נוּ פְלֵיטָ֖ה מִ/פְּנֵ֣י אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם מַהֲר֣וּ לָ/לֶ֗כֶת פֶּן יְמַהֵ֤ר וְ/הִשִּׂגָ֨/נוּ֙ וְ/הִדִּ֤יחַ עָלֵ֨י/נוּ֙ אֶת הָ֣/רָעָ֔ה וְ/הִכָּ֥ה הָ/עִ֖יר לְ/פִי חָֽרֶב
And the kings seruants said vnto the king, Behold, thy seruants are readie to doe whatsoeuer my lord the king shall appoint.
GenevaAnd the Kings seruants sayd vnto him, Behold, thy seruants are ready to do according to all that my lord the King shall appoynt.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֥וּ עַבְדֵֽי הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ כְּ/כֹ֧ל אֲשֶׁר יִבְחַ֛ר אֲדֹנִ֥/י הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ הִנֵּ֥ה עֲבָדֶֽי/ךָ
And the king went foorth, and all his houshold after him: and the King left tenne women, which were concubines, to keepe the house.
GenevaSo the King departed and all his houshold after him, and the King left ten concubines to keepe the house.
וַ/יֵּצֵ֥א הַ/מֶּ֛לֶךְ וְ/כָל בֵּית֖/וֹ בְּ/רַגְלָ֑י/ו וַ/יַּעֲזֹ֣ב הַ/מֶּ֗לֶךְ אֵ֣ת עֶ֧שֶׂר נָשִׁ֛ים פִּֽלַגְשִׁ֖ים לִ/שְׁמֹ֥ר הַ/בָּֽיִת
And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and taried in a place that was farre off.
GenevaAnd the King went forth and all the people after him, and taried in a place farre off.
וַ/יֵּצֵ֥א הַ/מֶּ֛לֶךְ וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֖ם בְּ/רַגְלָ֑י/ו וַ/יַּעַמְד֖וּ בֵּ֥ית הַ/מֶּרְחָֽק
And all his seruants passed on beside him: and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, sixe hundred men, which came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
GenevaAnd all his seruants went about him, and all the Cherethites and all the Pelethites and all the Gittites, euen sixe hudreth men which were come after him from Gath, went before the King.
וְ/כָל עֲבָדָי/ו֙ עֹבְרִ֣ים עַל יָד֔/וֹ וְ/כָל הַ/כְּרֵתִ֖י וְ/כָל הַ/פְּלֵתִ֑י וְ/כָֽל הַ/גִּתִּ֞ים שֵׁשׁ מֵא֣וֹת אִ֗ישׁ אֲשֶׁר בָּ֤אוּ בְ/רַגְל/וֹ֙ מִ/גַּ֔ת עֹבְרִ֖ים עַל פְּנֵ֥י הַ/מֶּֽלֶךְ
¶ Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with vs? Returne to thy place, and abide with the King: for thou art a stranger, and also an exile.
GenevaThen sayde the King to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore commest thou also with vs? Returne aud abide with the King, for thou art a stranger: depart thou therefore to thy place.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֶל אִתַּ֣י הַ/גִּתִּ֔י לָ֧/מָּה תֵלֵ֛ךְ גַּם אַתָּ֖ה אִתָּ֑/נוּ שׁ֣וּב וְ/שֵׁ֤ב עִם הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ כִּֽי נָכְרִ֣י אַ֔תָּה וְ/גַם גֹּלֶ֥ה אַתָּ֖ה לִ/מְקוֹמֶֽ/ךָ
Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee goe vp and downe with vs? Seeing I goe whither I may, returne thou, and take backe thy brethren: mercie and trueth be with thee.
GenevaThou camest yesterday, and should I cause thee to wander to day and go with vs? I will goe whither I can: therefore returne thou and cary againe thy brethren: mercy and trueth be with thee.
תְּמ֣וֹל בּוֹאֶ֗/ךָ וְ/הַ/יּ֞וֹם אנוע/ך עִמָּ֨/נוּ֙ לָ/לֶ֔כֶת וַ/אֲנִ֣י הוֹלֵ֔ךְ עַ֥ל אֲשֶׁר אֲנִ֖י הוֹלֵ֑ךְ שׁ֣וּב וְ/הָשֵׁ֧ב אֶת אַחֶ֛י/ךָ עִמָּ֖/ךְ חֶ֥סֶד וֶ/אֱמֶֽת
And Ittai answered the King, and said, As the LORD liueth, and as my lord the king liueth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, euen there also will thy seruant be.
GenevaAnd Ittai answered the King, and sayde, As the Lord liueth, and as my lord the King liueth, in what place my lord the King shalbe, whether in death or life, euen there surely will thy seruant bee.
וַ/יַּ֧עַן אִתַּ֛י אֶת הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ וַ/יֹּאמַ֑ר חַי יְהוָ֗ה וְ/חֵי֙ אֲדֹנִ֣/י הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ כִּ֠י אִם בִּ/מְק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִֽהְיֶה שָּׁ֣ם אֲדֹנִ֣/י הַ/מֶּ֗לֶךְ אִם לְ/מָ֨וֶת֙ אִם לְ/חַיִּ֔ים כִּי שָׁ֖ם יִהְיֶ֥ה עַבְדֶּֽ/ךָ
And Dauid said to Ittai, Goe, and passe ouer. And Ittai the Gittite passed ouer, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.
GenevaThen Dauid sayd to Ittai, Come, and go forward. And Ittai the Gittite went, and all his men, and all the children that were with him.
וַ/יֹּ֧אמֶר דָּוִ֛ד אֶל אִתַּ֖י לֵ֣ךְ וַ/עֲבֹ֑ר וַֽ/יַּעֲבֹ֞ר אִתַּ֤י הַ/גִּתִּי֙ וְ/כָל אֲנָשָׁ֔י/ו וְ/כָל הַ/טַּ֖ף אֲשֶׁ֥ר אִתּֽ/וֹ
And all the countrey wept with a loude voice, and all the people passed ouer: the King also himselfe passed ouer the brooke Kidron, and all the people passed ouer, toward the way of the wildernesse.
GenevaAnd all the countrey wept with a loude voyce, and all the people went forward, but the King passed ouer the brooke Kidron: and all the people went ouer toward the way of ye wildernes.
וְ/כָל הָ/אָ֗רֶץ בּוֹכִים֙ ק֣וֹל גָּד֔וֹל וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֖ם עֹֽבְרִ֑ים וְ/הַ/מֶּ֗לֶךְ עֹבֵר֙ בְּ/נַ֣חַל קִדְר֔וֹן וְ/כָל הָ/עָם֙ עֹבְרִ֔ים עַל פְּנֵי דֶ֖רֶךְ אֶת הַ/מִּדְבָּֽר
¶ And loe, Zadok also, and all the Leuites were with him, bearing the Arke of the Couenant of God, and they set downe the Arke of God; and Abiathar went vp, vntill all the people had done passing out of the citie.

וְ/הִנֵּ֨ה גַם צָד֜וֹק וְ/כָֽל הַ/לְוִיִּ֣ם אִתּ֗/וֹ נֹֽשְׂאִים֙ אֶת אֲרוֹן֙ בְּרִ֣ית הָ/אֱלֹהִ֔ים וַ/יַּצִּ֨קוּ֙ אֶת אֲר֣וֹן הָ/אֱלֹהִ֔ים וַ/יַּ֖עַל אֶבְיָתָ֑ר עַד תֹּ֥ם כָּל הָ/עָ֖ם לַ/עֲב֥וֹר מִן הָ/עִֽיר
And the King said vnto Zadok, Cary backe the Arke of God into the citie: if I shall finde fauour in the eyes of the LORD, he wil bring me againe, and shew me both it, and his habitation.
GenevaThen the King said vnto Zadok, Carie the Arke of God againe into the citie: if I shall finde fauour in the eyes of the Lord, he will bring me againe, and shewe me both it, and the Tabernacle thereof.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ לְ/צָד֔וֹק הָשֵׁ֛ב אֶת אֲר֥וֹן הָ/אֱלֹהִ֖ים הָ/עִ֑יר אִם אֶמְצָ֥א חֵן֙ בְּ/עֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וֶ/הֱשִׁבַ֕/נִי וְ/הִרְאַ֥/נִי אֹת֖/וֹ וְ/אֶת נָוֵֽ/הוּ
But if he thus say, I haue no delight in thee: beholde, here am I, let him doe to me, as seemeth good vnto him.

וְ/אִם֙ כֹּ֣ה יֹאמַ֔ר לֹ֥א חָפַ֖צְתִּי בָּ֑/ךְ הִנְ/נִ֕י יַֽעֲשֶׂה לִּ֕/י כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר ט֖וֹב בְּ/עֵינָֽי/ו
The king said also vnto Zadok the Priest, Art not thou a Seer? Returne into the citie in peace, and your two sonnes with you, Ahimaaz thy sonne, and Ionathan the sonne of Abiathar.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֶל צָד֣וֹק הַ/כֹּהֵ֔ן הֲ/רוֹאֶ֣ה אַתָּ֔ה שֻׁ֥בָ/ה הָ/עִ֖יר בְּ/שָׁל֑וֹם וַ/אֲחִימַ֨עַץ בִּנְ/ךָ֜ וִ/יהוֹנָתָ֧ן בֶּן אֶבְיָתָ֛ר שְׁנֵ֥י בְנֵי/כֶ֖ם אִתְּ/כֶֽם
See, I will tarie in the plaine of the wildernesse, vntill there come word from you to certifie me.

רְאוּ֙ אָנֹכִ֣י מִתְמַהְמֵ֔הַּ ב/עברות הַ/מִּדְבָּ֑ר עַ֣ד בּ֥וֹא דָבָ֛ר מֵ/עִמָּ/כֶ֖ם לְ/הַגִּ֥יד לִֽ/י
Zadok therefore and Abiathar caried the Arke of God againe to Ierusalem; and they taried there.

¶ And Dauid went vp by the ascent of mount Oliuet, and wept as he went vp, and had his head couered, and he went barefoote, and all the people that was with him, couered euery man his head, and they went vp, weeping as they went vp.

וְ/דָוִ֡ד עֹלֶה֩ בְ/מַעֲלֵ֨ה הַ/זֵּיתִ֜ים עֹלֶ֣ה וּ/בוֹכֶ֗ה וְ/רֹ֥אשׁ ל/וֹ֙ חָפ֔וּי וְ/ה֖וּא הֹלֵ֣ךְ יָחֵ֑ף וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֣ם אֲשֶׁר אִתּ֗/וֹ חָפוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ רֹאשׁ֔/וֹ וְ/עָל֥וּ עָלֹ֖ה וּ/בָכֹֽה
¶ And one tolde Dauid, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And Dauid sayde, O LORD, I pray thee turne the counsell of Ahithophel into foolishnesse.

וְ/דָוִד֙ הִגִּ֣יד לֵ/אמֹ֔ר אֲחִיתֹ֥פֶל בַּ/קֹּשְׁרִ֖ים עִם אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דָּוִ֔ד סַכֶּל נָ֛א אֶת עֲצַ֥ת אֲחִיתֹ֖פֶל יְהוָֽה
¶ And it came to passe, that when Dauid was come to the top of the mount, where he worshipped God, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him, with his coat rent, and earth vpon his head:
GenevaThen Dauid came to the toppe of the mount where he worshipped God: and beholde, Hushai the Archite came against him with his coate torne, and hauing earth vpon his head.
וַ/יְהִ֤י דָוִד֙ בָּ֣א עַד הָ/רֹ֔אשׁ אֲשֶֽׁר יִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֥ה שָׁ֖ם לֵ/אלֹהִ֑ים וְ/הִנֵּ֤ה לִ/קְרָאת/וֹ֙ חוּשַׁ֣י הָ/אַרְכִּ֔י קָר֨וּעַ֙ כֻּתָּנְתּ֔/וֹ וַ/אֲדָמָ֖ה עַל רֹאשֽׁ/וֹ
Unto whom Dauid said, If thou passest on with me, then thou shalt be a burden vnto me.

וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר ל֖/וֹ דָּוִ֑ד אִ֚ם עָבַ֣רְתָּ אִתִּ֔/י וְ/הָיִ֥תָ עָלַ֖/י לְ/מַשָּֽׂא
But if thou returne to the citie, and say vnto Absalom, I wil be thy seruant, O king: as I haue bene thy fathers seruant hitherto, so will I now also be thy seruant: then mayest thou for mee defeat the counsell of Ahithophel.

וְ/אִם הָ/עִ֣יר תָּשׁ֗וּב וְ/אָמַרְתָּ֤ לְ/אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ עַבְדְּ/ךָ֨ אֲנִ֤י הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֶֽהְיֶ֔ה עֶ֣בֶד אָבִ֤י/ךָ וַֽ/אֲנִי֙ מֵ/אָ֔ז וְ/עַתָּ֖ה וַ/אֲנִ֣י עַבְדֶּ֑/ךָ וְ/הֵפַרְתָּ֣ה לִ֔/י אֵ֖ת עֲצַ֥ת אֲחִיתֹֽפֶל
And hast thou not there with thee Zadok, and Abiathar the Priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soeuer thou shalt heare out of the kings house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the Priests.

וַ/הֲ/ל֤וֹא עִמְּ/ךָ֙ שָׁ֔ם צָד֥וֹק וְ/אֶבְיָתָ֖ר הַ/כֹּהֲנִ֑ים וְ/הָיָ֗ה כָּל הַ/דָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר תִּשְׁמַע֙ מִ/בֵּ֣ית הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ תַּגִּ֕יד לְ/צָד֥וֹק וּ/לְ/אֶבְיָתָ֖ר הַ/כֹּהֲנִֽים
Behold, they haue there with them their two sonnes, Ahimaaz Zadoks sonne, and Ionathan Abiathars sonne: and by them ye shall send vnto me euery thing that ye can heare.
