2 Samuel 20
And there happened to bee there a man of Belial, whose name was Sheba the sonne of Bichri, a Beniamite, & hee blew a trumpet, and said, Wee haue no part in Dauid, neither haue we inheritance in the sonne of Iesse: euery man to his tents, O Israel.
GenevaThen there was come thither a wicked man (named Sheba the sonne of Bichri, a man of Iemini) and hee blew the trumpet, and saide, Wee haue no part in Dauid, neither haue we inheritance in the sonne of Ishai: euery man to his tents, O Israel.
וְ/שָׁ֨ם נִקְרָ֜א אִ֣ישׁ בְּלִיַּ֗עַל וּ/שְׁמ֛/וֹ שֶׁ֥בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִ֖י אִ֣ישׁ יְמִינִ֑י וַ/יִּתְקַ֣ע בַּ/שֹּׁפָ֗ר וַ֠/יֹּאמֶר אֵֽין לָ֨/נוּ חֵ֜לֶק בְּ/דָוִ֗ד וְ/לֹ֤א נַֽחֲלָה לָ֨/נוּ֙ בְּ/בֶן יִשַׁ֔י אִ֥ישׁ לְ/אֹהָלָ֖י/ו יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
So euery man of Israel went vp from after Dauid, and followed Sheba the sonne of Bichri: but the men of Iudah claue vnto their king, from Iordane euen to Ierusalem.

וַ/יַּ֜עַל כָּל אִ֤ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ מֵ/אַחֲרֵ֣י דָוִ֔ד אַחֲרֵ֖י שֶׁ֣בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִ֑י וְ/אִ֤ישׁ יְהוּדָה֙ דָּבְק֣וּ בְ/מַלְכָּ֔/ם מִן הַ/יַּרְדֵּ֖ן וְ/עַד יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
¶ And Dauid came to his house at Ierusalem, and the king tooke the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in vnto them: so they were shut vp vnto the day of their death, liuing in widowhood.

וַ/יָּבֹ֨א דָוִ֣ד אֶל בֵּית/וֹ֮ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַם֒ וַ/יִּקַּ֣ח הַ/מֶּ֡לֶךְ אֵ֣ת עֶֽשֶׂר נָשִׁ֣ים פִּלַגְשִׁ֡ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִנִּיחַ֩ לִ/שְׁמֹ֨ר הַ/בַּ֜יִת וַֽ/יִּתְּנֵ֤/ם בֵּית מִשְׁמֶ֨רֶת֙ וַֽ/יְכַלְכְּלֵ֔/ם וַ/אֲלֵי/הֶ֖ם לֹא בָ֑א וַ/תִּהְיֶ֧ינָה צְרֻר֛וֹת עַד י֥וֹם מֻתָ֖/ן אַלְמְנ֥וּת חַיּֽוּת
¶ Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Iudah within three dayes, and be thou here present.

So Amasa went to assemble the men of Iudah; but hee taried longer then the set time which he had appointed him.

And Dauid said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the sonne of Bichri doe vs more harme then did Absalom: take thou thy lords seruants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape vs.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל אֲבִישַׁ֔י עַתָּ֗ה יֵ֧רַֽע לָ֛/נוּ שֶׁ֥בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִ֖י מִן אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם אַ֠תָּה קַ֞ח אֶת עַבְדֵ֤י אֲדֹנֶ֨י/ךָ֙ וּ/רְדֹ֣ף אַחֲרָ֔י/ו פֶּן מָ֥צָא ל֛/וֹ עָרִ֥ים בְּצֻר֖וֹת וְ/הִצִּ֥יל עֵינֵֽ/נוּ
And there went out after him Ioabs men, and the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men: and they went out of Ierusalem, to pursue after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.

וַ/יֵּצְא֤וּ אַֽחֲרָי/ו֙ אַנְשֵׁ֣י יוֹאָ֔ב וְ/הַ/כְּרֵתִ֥י וְ/הַ/פְּלֵתִ֖י וְ/כָל הַ/גִּבֹּרִ֑ים וַ/יֵּֽצְאוּ֙ מִ/יר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לִ/רְדֹּ֕ף אַחֲרֵ֖י שֶׁ֥בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִֽי
When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them: and Ioabs garment that he had put on, was girded vnto him, and vpon it a girdle with a sword fastned vpon his loynes in the sheath thereof, and as hee went forth, it fell out.

הֵ֗ם עִם הָ/אֶ֤בֶן הַ/גְּדוֹלָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ/גִבְע֔וֹן וַ/עֲמָשָׂ֖א בָּ֣א לִ/פְנֵי/הֶ֑ם וְ/יוֹאָ֞ב חָג֣וּר מִדּ֣/וֹ לְבֻשׁ֗/וּ ו/על/ו חֲג֥וֹר חֶ֨רֶב֙ מְצֻמֶּ֤דֶת עַל מָתְנָי/ו֙ בְּ/תַעְרָ֔/הּ וְ/ה֥וּא יָצָ֖א וַ/תִּפֹּֽל
And Ioab saide to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Ioab tooke Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kisse him.

וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר יוֹאָב֙ לַ/עֲמָשָׂ֔א הֲ/שָׁל֥וֹם אַתָּ֖ה אָחִ֑/י וַ/תֹּ֜חֶז יַד יְמִ֥ין יוֹאָ֛ב בִּ/זְקַ֥ן עֲמָשָׂ֖א לִ/נְשָׁק לֽ/וֹ
But Amasa tooke no heed to the sword that was in Ioabs hand: so hee smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and strake him not againe, and he died: so Ioab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.

וַ/עֲמָשָׂ֨א לֹֽא נִשְׁמַ֜ר בַּ/חֶ֣רֶב אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ/יַד יוֹאָ֗ב וַ/יַּכֵּ/הוּ֩ בָ֨/הּ אֶל הַ/חֹ֜מֶשׁ וַ/יִּשְׁפֹּ֨ךְ מֵעָ֥י/ו אַ֛רְצָ/ה וְ/לֹא שָׁ֥נָה ל֖/וֹ וַ/יָּמֹ֑ת וְ/יוֹאָב֙ וַ/אֲבִישַׁ֣י אָחִ֔י/ו רָדַ֕ף אַחֲרֵ֖י שֶׁ֥בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִֽי
And one of Ioabs men stood by him, and said, He that fauoureth Ioab, and hee that is for Dauid, let him goe after Ioab.
GenevaAnd one of Ioabs men stoode by him, and saide, He that fauoureth Ioab, and hee that is of Dauids part, let him go after Ioab.
וְ/אִישׁ֙ עָמַ֣ד עָלָ֔י/ו מִֽ/נַּעֲרֵ֖י יוֹאָ֑ב וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר מִי֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר חָפֵ֧ץ בְּ/יוֹאָ֛ב וּ/מִ֥י אֲשֶׁר לְ/דָוִ֖ד אַחֲרֵ֥י יוֹאָֽב
And Amasa wallowed in blood in the mids of the high way: and when the man saw that all the people stood still, he remoued Amasa out of the high way into the field, and cast a cloth vpon him, when hee saw that euery one that came by him, stood still.

וַ/עֲמָשָׂ֛א מִתְגֹּלֵ֥ל בַּ/דָּ֖ם בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הַֽ/מְסִּלָּ֑ה וַ/יַּ֨רְא הָ/אִ֜ישׁ כִּֽי עָמַ֣ד כָּל הָ/עָ֗ם וַ/יַּסֵּב֩ אֶת עֲמָשָׂ֨א מִן הַֽ/מְסִלָּ֤ה הַ/שָּׂדֶה֙ וַ/יַּשְׁלֵ֤ךְ עָלָי/ו֙ בֶּ֔גֶד כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָאָ֔ה כָּל הַ/בָּ֥א עָלָ֖י/ו וְ/עָמָֽד
When he was remoued out of the high way, all the people went on after Ioab, to pursue after Sheba the sonne of Bichri.

כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֹגָ֖ה מִן הַֽ/מְסִלָּ֑ה עָבַ֤ר כָּל אִישׁ֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י יוֹאָ֔ב לִ/רְדֹּ֕ף אַחֲרֵ֖י שֶׁ֥בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִֽי
¶ And hee went thorow all the tribes of Israel vnto Abel, and to Bethmaachah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.
GenevaAnd he went through all the tribes of Israel vnto Abel, and Bethmaachah and all places of Berim: and they gathered together, and went also after him.
וַֽ/יַּעֲבֹ֞ר בְּ/כָל שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אָבֵ֛לָ/ה וּ/בֵ֥ית מַעֲכָ֖ה וְ/כָל הַ/בֵּרִ֑ים ו/יקלהו וַ/יָּבֹ֖אוּ אַף אַחֲרָֽי/ו
And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaachah, and they cast vp a banke against the citie, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that were with Ioab, battered the wall, to throw it downe.
GenevaSo they came, and besieged him in Abel, neere to Bethmaachah: and they cast vp a mount against the citie, and the people thereof stood on the ramper, and al the people that was with Ioab, destroyed and cast downe the wall.
וַ/יָּבֹ֜אוּ וַ/יָּצֻ֣רוּ עָלָ֗י/ו בְּ/אָבֵ֨לָ/ה֙ בֵּ֣ית הַֽמַּעֲכָ֔ה וַ/יִּשְׁפְּכ֤וּ סֹֽלְלָה֙ אֶל הָ/עִ֔יר וַֽ/תַּעֲמֹ֖ד בַּ/חֵ֑ל וְ/כָל הָ/עָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶת יוֹאָ֔ב מַשְׁחִיתִ֖ם לְ/הַפִּ֥יל הַ/חוֹמָֽה
¶ Then cried a wise woman out of the citie, Heare, heare; say, I pray you, vnto Ioab, Come neere hither, that I may speake with thee.

וַ/תִּקְרָ֛א אִשָּׁ֥ה חֲכָמָ֖ה מִן הָ/עִ֑יר שִׁמְע֤וּ שִׁמְעוּ֙ אִמְרוּ נָ֣א אֶל יוֹאָ֔ב קְרַ֣ב עַד הֵ֔נָּה וַ/אֲדַבְּרָ֖ה אֵלֶֽי/ךָ
And when he was come neere vnto her, the woman said, Art thou Ioab? And he answered, I am he: Then shee said vnto him, Heare the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I doe heare.
GenevaAnd when hee came neere vnto her, the woman said, Art thou Ioab? And he answered, Yea. And she said to him, Heare the wordes of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do heare.
וַ/יִּקְרַ֣ב אֵלֶ֔י/הָ וַ/תֹּ֧אמֶר הָ/אִשָּׁ֛ה הַ/אַתָּ֥ה יוֹאָ֖ב וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אָ֑נִי וַ/תֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗/וֹ שְׁמַע֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י אֲמָתֶ֔/ךָ וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר שֹׁמֵ֥עַ אָנֹֽכִי
Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speake in old time, saying, They shall surely aske counsell at Abel: and so they ended the matter.
GenevaThen shee spake thus, They spake in the olde time, saying, They shoulde aske of Abel. and so haue they continued.
וַ/תֹּ֖אמֶר לֵ/אמֹ֑ר דַּבֵּ֨ר יְדַבְּר֤וּ בָ/רִֽאשֹׁנָה֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר שָׁאֹ֧ל יְשָׁאֲל֛וּ בְּ/אָבֵ֖ל וְ/כֵ֥ן הֵתַֽמּוּ
I am one of them that are peaceable and faithfull in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a citie, and a mother in Israel: Why wilt thou swallow vp the inheritance of the LORD ?

אָנֹכִ֕י שְׁלֻמֵ֖י אֱמוּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אַתָּ֣ה מְבַקֵּ֗שׁ לְ/הָמִ֨ית עִ֤יר וְ/אֵם֙ בְּ/יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לָ֥/מָּה תְבַלַּ֖ע נַחֲלַ֥ת יְהוָֽה
And Ioab answered and saide, Farre be it, farre be it from me, that I should swallow vp or destroy.
GenevaAnd Ioab answered, and said, God forbid, God forbid it me, that I should deuoure, or destroy it.
וַ/יַּ֥עַן יוֹאָ֖ב וַ/יֹּאמַ֑ר חָלִ֤ילָ/ה חָלִ֨ילָ/ה֙ לִ֔/י אִם אֲבַלַּ֖ע וְ/אִם אַשְׁחִֽית
The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim (Sheba the sonne of Bichri by name) hath lift vp his hand against the king, euen against Dauid: deliuer him onely, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said vnto Ioab, Behold, his head shall be throwen to thee ouer the wall.

לֹא כֵ֣ן הַ/דָּבָ֗ר כִּ֡י אִישׁ֩ מֵ/הַ֨ר אֶפְרַ֜יִם שֶׁ֧בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִ֣י שְׁמ֗/וֹ נָשָׂ֤א יָד/וֹ֙ בַּ/מֶּ֣לֶךְ בְּ/דָוִ֔ד תְּנֽוּ אֹת֣/וֹ לְ/בַדּ֔/וֹ וְ/אֵלְכָ֖ה מֵ/עַ֣ל הָ/עִ֑יר וַ/תֹּ֤אמֶר הָֽ/אִשָּׁה֙ אֶל יוֹאָ֔ב הִנֵּ֥ה רֹאשׁ֛/וֹ מֻשְׁלָ֥ךְ אֵלֶ֖י/ךָ בְּעַ֥ד הַ/חוֹמָֽה
Then the woman went vnto all the people in her wisedome, and they cut off the head of Sheba the sonne of Bichri, and cast it out to Ioab: and hee blew a trumpet, and they retired from the citie, euery man to his tent: & Ioab returned to Ierusalem vnto the king.

וַ/תָּבוֹא֩ הָ/אִשָּׁ֨ה אֶל כָּל הָ/עָ֜ם בְּ/חָכְמָתָ֗/הּ וַֽ/יִּכְרְת֞וּ אֶת רֹ֨אשׁ שֶׁ֤בַע בֶּן בִּכְרִי֙ וַ/יַּשְׁלִ֣כוּ אֶל יוֹאָ֔ב וַ/יִּתְקַע֙ בַּ/שּׁוֹפָ֔ר וַ/יָּפֻ֥צוּ מֵֽ/עַל הָ/עִ֖יר אִ֣ישׁ לְ/אֹהָלָ֑י/ו וְ/יוֹאָ֛ב שָׁ֥ב יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם אֶל הַ/מֶּֽלֶךְ
¶ Now Ioab was ouer all the hoste of Israel, and Benaiah the sonne of Iehoiada was ouer the Cherethites, and ouer the Pelethites.

וְ/יוֹאָ֕ב אֶ֥ל כָּל הַ/צָּבָ֖א יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וּ/בְנָיָה֙ בֶּן יְה֣וֹיָדָ֔ע עַל ה/כרי וְ/עַל הַ/פְּלֵתִֽי
And Adoram was ouer the tribute, and Iehoshaphat the sonne of Ahilud was Recorder.
GenevaAnd Adoram ouer the tribute, and Ioshaphat the sonne of Ahilud the recorder,
וַ/אֲדֹרָ֖ם עַל הַ/מַּ֑ס וִ/יהוֹשָׁפָ֥ט בֶּן אֲחִיל֖וּד הַ/מַּזְכִּֽיר
And Sheua was scribe, and Zadok, and Abiathar were the Priests.
GenevaAnd Sheia was Scribe, and Zadok and Abiathar the Priests,
ו/שיא סֹפֵ֑ר וְ/צָד֥וֹק וְ/אֶבְיָתָ֖ר כֹּהֲנִֽים
And Ira also the Iairite, was a chiefe ruler about Dauid.
GenevaAnd also Ira the Iairite was chiefe about Dauid.
וְ/גַ֗ם עִירָא֙ הַ/יָּ֣אִרִ֔י הָיָ֥ה כֹהֵ֖ן לְ/דָוִֽד
