2 Samuel 22
And Dauid spake vnto the LORD the wordes of this song, in the day that the LORD had deliuered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul.
GenevaAnd Dauid spake the woordes of this song vnto the Lord, what time the Lord had deliuered him out of the handes of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul.
וַ/יְדַבֵּ֤ר דָּוִד֙ לַֽ/יהוָ֔ה אֶת דִּבְרֵ֖י הַ/שִּׁירָ֣ה הַ/זֹּ֑את בְּ/יוֹם֩ הִצִּ֨יל יְהוָ֥ה אֹת֛/וֹ מִ/כַּ֥ף כָּל אֹיְבָ֖י/ו וּ/מִ/כַּ֥ף שָׁאֽוּל
And he said, The LORD is my rocke and my fortresse, and my deliuerer:
GenevaAnd he sayd, The Lord is my rocke and my fortresse, and he that deliuereth mee.
וַ/יֹּאמַ֑ר יְהוָ֛ה סַֽלְעִ֥/י וּ/מְצֻדָתִ֖/י וּ/מְפַלְטִ/י לִֽ/י
The God of my rocke, in him will I trust: hee is my shield, and the horne of my saluation, my high tower, and my refuge, my Sauiour; thou sauest me from violence.
GenevaGod is my strength, in him will I trust: my shielde, and the horne of my saluation, my hie tower and my refuge: my Sauiour, thou hast saued me from violence.
אֱלֹהֵ֥י צוּרִ֖/י אֶחֱסֶה בּ֑/וֹ מָגִנִּ֞/י וְ/קֶ֣רֶן יִשְׁעִ֗/י מִשְׂגַּבִּ/י֙ וּ/מְנוּסִ֔/י מֹשִׁעִ֕/י מֵ/חָמָ֖ס תֹּשִׁעֵֽ/נִי
I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saued from mine enemies.
GenevaI will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praysed: so shall I be safe from mine enemies.
מְהֻלָּ֖ל אֶקְרָ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּ/מֵ/אֹיְבַ֖/י אִוָּשֵֽׁעַ
When the waues of death compassed me: the floods of vngodly men made me afraid.
GenevaFor the pangs of death haue compassed me: the floods of vngodlinesse haue made mee afrayd.
כִּ֥י אֲפָפֻ֖/נִי מִשְׁבְּרֵי מָ֑וֶת נַחֲלֵ֥י בְלִיַּ֖עַל יְבַעֲתֻֽ/נִי
The sorowes of Hell compassed me about: the snares of death preuented me.
GenevaThe sorowes of the graue compassed mee about: the snares of death ouertooke mee.
חֶבְלֵ֥י שְׁא֖וֹל סַבֻּ֑/נִי קִדְּמֻ֖/נִי מֹֽקְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת
In my distresse I called vpon the LORD, and cryed to my God, and hee did heare my voice out of his Temple, and my crie did enter into his eares.
GenevaBut in my tribulation did I call vpon the Lord, and crie to my God, and he did heare my voyce out of his temple, and my crie did enter into his eares.
בַּ/צַּר לִ/י֙ אֶקְרָ֣א יְהוָ֔ה וְ/אֶל אֱלֹהַ֖/י אֶקְרָ֑א וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֤ע מֵ/הֵֽיכָל/וֹ֙ קוֹלִ֔/י וְ/שַׁוְעָתִ֖/י בְּ/אָזְנָֽי/ו
Then the earth shooke and trembled: the foundations of heauen mooued and shooke, because hee was wroth.
GenevaThen the earth trembled and quaked: the foundations of the heauens mooued and shooke, because he was angrie.
ו/תגעש וַ/תִּרְעַשׁ֙ הָ/אָ֔רֶץ מוֹסְד֥וֹת הַ/שָּׁמַ֖יִם יִרְגָּ֑זוּ וַ/יִּֽתְגָּעֲשׁ֖וּ כִּֽי חָ֥רָה לֽ/וֹ
There went vp a smoake out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth deuoured: coales were kindled by it.
GenevaSmoke went out at his nostrels, and consuming fire out of his mouth: coles were kindled thereat.
עָלָ֤ה עָשָׁן֙ בְּ/אַפּ֔/וֹ וְ/אֵ֥שׁ מִ/פִּ֖י/ו תֹּאכֵ֑ל גֶּחָלִ֖ים בָּעֲר֥וּ מִמֶּֽ/נּוּ
Hee bowed the heauens also and came downe: and darkenesse was vnder his feete.
GenevaHe bowed the heauens also, and came downe, and darkenes was vnder his feete.
וַ/יֵּ֥ט שָׁמַ֖יִם וַ/יֵּרַ֑ד וַ/עֲרָפֶ֖ל תַּ֥חַת רַגְלָֽי/ו
And he rode vpon a Cherub, and did flie: and hee was seene vpon the wings of the winde.
GenevaAnd he rode vpon Cherub and did flie, and hee was seene vpon the winges of the winde.
וַ/יִּרְכַּ֥ב עַל כְּר֖וּב וַ/יָּעֹ֑ף וַ/יֵּרָ֖א עַל כַּנְפֵי רֽוּחַ
And hee made darkenesse pauilions round about him, darke waters, and thicke clouds of the skies.
GenevaAnd hee made darkenesse a Tabernacle round about him, euen the gatherings of waters, and the cloudes of the ayre.
וַ/יָּ֥שֶׁת חֹ֛שֶׁךְ סְבִיבֹתָ֖י/ו סֻכּ֑וֹת חַֽשְׁרַת מַ֖יִם עָבֵ֥י שְׁחָקִֽים
Through the brightnesse before him, were coales of fire kindled.
GenevaAt the brightnesse of his presence the coles of fire were kindled.
מִ/נֹּ֖גַהּ נֶגְדּ֑/וֹ בָּעֲר֖וּ גַּחֲלֵי אֵֽשׁ
The LORD thundred from heauen: and the most high vttered his voice.
GenevaThe Lord thundred from heauen, and the most hie gaue his voyce.
יַרְעֵ֥ם מִן שָׁמַ֖יִם יְהוָ֑ה וְ/עֶלְי֖וֹן יִתֵּ֥ן קוֹלֽ/וֹ
And he sent out arrowes, and scattered them; lightning, and discomfited them.
GenevaHe shot arrowes also, and scattered them: to wit, lightning, and destroyed them.
וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֥ח חִצִּ֖ים וַ/יְפִיצֵ֑/ם בָּרָ֖ק ו/יהמ/ם
And the channels of the Sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discouered, at the rebuking of the LORD, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils.
GenevaThe chanels also of the sea appeared, euen the foundations of the worlde were discouered by the rebuking of the Lord, and at the blast of the breath of his nostrels.
וַ/יֵּֽרָאוּ֙ אֲפִ֣קֵי יָ֔ם יִגָּל֖וּ מֹסְד֣וֹת תֵּבֵ֑ל בְּ/גַעֲרַ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה מִ/נִּשְׁמַ֖ת ר֥וּחַ אַפּֽ/וֹ
He sent from aboue, he tooke me: he drew me out of many waters.
GenevaHe sent from aboue, and tooke me: hee drewe me out of many waters.
יִשְׁלַ֥ח מִ/מָּר֖וֹם יִקָּחֵ֑/נִי יַֽמְשֵׁ֖/נִי מִ/מַּ֥יִם רַבִּֽים
He deliuered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated mee: for they were too strong for me.
GenevaHe deliuered me from my strong enemie, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.
יַצִּילֵ֕/נִי מֵ/אֹיְבִ֖/י עָ֑ז מִ/שֹּׂ֣נְאַ֔/י כִּ֥י אָמְצ֖וּ מִמֶּֽ/נִּי
They preuented me in the day of my calamitie: but the LORD was my stay.
GenevaThey preuented me in the day of my calamitie, but the Lord was my stay,
יְקַדְּמֻ֖/נִי בְּ/י֣וֹם אֵידִ֑/י וַ/יְהִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה מִשְׁעָ֖ן לִֽ/י
Hee brought me forth also into a large place: he deliuered me, because hee delighted in me.
GenevaAnd brought me foorth into a large place: he deliuered me, because he fauoured me.
וַ/יֹּצֵ֥א לַ/מֶּרְחָ֖ב אֹתִ֑/י יְחַלְּצֵ֖/נִי כִּי חָ֥פֵֽץ בִּֽ/י
The LORD rewarded mee according to my righteousnesse: according to the cleannesse of my hands, hath hee recompensed me.
GenevaThe Lord rewarded me according to my righteousnesse: according to the purenesse of mine handes he recompensed me.
יִגְמְלֵ֥/נִי יְהוָ֖ה כְּ/צִדְקָתִ֑/י כְּ/בֹ֥ר יָדַ֖/י יָשִׁ֥יב לִֽ/י
For I haue kept the wayes of the LORD, and haue not wickedly departed from my God.
GenevaFor I kept the wayes of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God.
כִּ֥י שָׁמַ֖רְתִּי דַּרְכֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְ/לֹ֥א רָשַׁ֖עְתִּי מֵ/אֱלֹהָֽ/י
For all his iudgements were before me: and as for his Statutes, I did not depart from them.
GenevaFor all his lawes were before me, and his statutes: I did not depart therefrom.
כִּ֥י כָל משפט/ו לְ/נֶגְדִּ֑/י וְ/חֻקֹּתָ֖י/ו לֹא אָס֥וּר מִמֶּֽ/נָּה
I was also vpright before him: and haue kept my selfe from mine iniquitie.
GenevaI was vpright also towarde him, and haue kept me from my wickednesse.
וָ/אֶהְיֶ֥ה תָמִ֖ים ל֑/וֹ וָ/אֶשְׁתַּמְּרָ֖/ה מֵ/עֲוֺנִֽ/י
Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me, according to my righteousnesse: according to my cleannesse in his eye sight.
GenevaTherefore the Lord did reward me according to my righteousnesse, according to my purenesse before his eyes.
וַ/יָּ֧שֶׁב יְהוָ֛ה לִ֖/י כְּ/צִדְקָתִ֑/י כְּ/בֹרִ֖/י לְ/נֶ֥גֶד עֵינָֽי/ו
With the merciful thou wilt shew thy selfe mercifull, and with the vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.
GenevaWith the godly thou wilt shewe thy selfe godly: with the vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.
עִם חָסִ֖יד תִּתְחַסָּ֑ד עִם גִּבּ֥וֹר תָּמִ֖ים תִּתַּמָּֽם
With the pure thou wilt shew thy selfe pure: and with the froward, thou wilt shew thy selfe vnsauoury.
GenevaWith the pure thou wilt shewe thy selfe pure, and with the frowarde thou wilt shew thy selfe frowarde.
עִם נָבָ֖ר תִּתָּבָ֑ר וְ/עִם עִקֵּ֖שׁ תִּתַּפָּֽל
And the afflicted people thou wilt saue: but thine eyes are vpon the hautie, that thou mayest bring them downe.
GenevaThus thou wilt saue the poore people: but thine eyes are vpon the hautie to humble them.
וְ/אֶת עַ֥ם עָנִ֖י תּוֹשִׁ֑יעַ וְ/עֵינֶ֖י/ךָ עַל רָמִ֥ים תַּשְׁפִּֽיל
For thou art my lampe, O LORD: and the LORD wil lighten my darkenesse.
GenevaSurely thou art my light, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkenes.
כִּֽי אַתָּ֥ה נֵירִ֖/י יְהוָ֑ה וַ/יהוָ֖ה יַגִּ֥יהַּ חָשְׁכִּֽ/י
For by thee I haue run through a troupe: by my God haue I leaped ouer a wall.
GenevaFor by thee haue I broken through an hoste, and by my God haue I leaped ouer a wall.
כִּ֥י בְ/כָ֖ה אָר֣וּץ גְּד֑וּד בֵּ/אלֹהַ֖/י אֲדַלֶּג שֽׁוּר
As for God, his way is perfect, the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.
GenevaThe way of God is vncorrupt: the word of the Lord is tryed in the fire: he is a shield to all that trust in him.
הָ/אֵ֖ל תָּמִ֣ים דַּרְכּ֑/וֹ אִמְרַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ צְרוּפָ֔ה מָגֵ֣ן ה֔וּא לְ/כֹ֖ל הַ/חֹסִ֥ים בּֽ/וֹ
For who is God, saue the LORD ? and who is a rocke, saue our God?
GenevaFor who is God besides the Lord? and who is mightie, saue our God?
כִּ֥י מִי אֵ֖ל מִ/בַּלְעֲדֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וּ/מִ֥י צ֖וּר מִֽ/בַּלְעֲדֵ֥י אֱלֹהֵֽי/נוּ
God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.
GenevaGod is my strength in battel, and maketh my way vpright.
הָ/אֵ֥ל מָעוּזִּ֖/י חָ֑יִל וַ/יַּתֵּ֥ר תָּמִ֖ים דרכ/ו
Hee maketh my feet like hindes feet: and setteth mee vpon my high places.
GenevaHe maketh my feete like hindes feete, and hath set me vpon mine hie places.
מְשַׁוֶּ֥ה רגלי/ו כָּ/אַיָּל֑וֹת וְ/עַ֥ל בָּמוֹתַ֖/י יַעֲמִדֵֽ/נִי
He teacheth my hands to warre: so that a bow of steele is broken by mine armes.
GenevaHe teacheth mine handes to fight, so that a bowe of brasse is broken with mine armes.
מְלַמֵּ֥ד יָדַ֖/י לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְ/נִחַ֥ת קֶֽשֶׁת נְחוּשָׁ֖ה זְרֹעֹתָֽ/י
Thou hast also giuen mee the shield of thy saluation: and thy gentlenesse hath made me great.
GenevaThou hast also giuen me the shield of thy saluation, and thy louing kindnesse hath caused me to increase.
וַ/תִּתֶּן לִ֖/י מָגֵ֣ן יִשְׁעֶ֑/ךָ וַ/עֲנֹתְ/ךָ֖ תַּרְבֵּֽ/נִי
Thou hast enlarged my steps vnder me: so that my feet did not slip.
GenevaThou hast inlarged my steppes vnder me, and mine heeles haue not slid.
תַּרְחִ֥יב צַעֲדִ֖/י תַּחְתֵּ֑/נִי וְ/לֹ֥א מָעֲד֖וּ קַרְסֻלָּֽ/י
I haue pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them: and turned not againe vntill I had consumed them.
GenevaI haue pursued mine enemies and destroyed them, and haue not turned againe vntill I had consumed them.
אֶרְדְּפָ֥ה אֹיְבַ֖/י וָ/אַשְׁמִידֵ֑/ם וְ/לֹ֥א אָשׁ֖וּב עַד כַּלּוֹתָֽ/ם
And I haue consumed them and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen vnder my feet.
GenevaYea, I haue consumed them and thrust them through, and they shall not arise, but shall fall vnder my feete.
וָ/אֲכַלֵּ֥/ם וָ/אֶמְחָצֵ֖/ם וְ/לֹ֣א יְקוּמ֑וּ/ן וַֽ/יִּפְּל֖וּ תַּ֥חַת רַגְלָֽ/י
For thou hast girded mee with strength to battel: them that rose vp against me, hast thou subdued vnder me.
GenevaFor thou hast girded me with power to battell, and them that arose against me, hast thou subdued vnder me.
וַ/תַּזְרֵ֥/נִי חַ֖יִל לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֑ה תַּכְרִ֥יעַ קָמַ֖/י תַּחְתֵּֽ/נִי
Thou hast also giuen mee the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
GenevaAnd thou hast giuen me the neckes of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.
וְ/אֹ֣יְבַ֔/י תַּ֥תָּה לִּ֖/י עֹ֑רֶף מְשַׂנְאַ֖/י וָ/אַצְמִיתֵֽ/ם
They looked, but there was none to saue: euen vnto the LORD, but he answered them not.
GenevaThey looked about, but there was none to saue them, euen vnto the Lord, but he answered them not.
יִשְׁע֖וּ וְ/אֵ֣ין מֹשִׁ֑יעַ אֶל יְהוָ֖ה וְ/לֹ֥א עָנָֽ/ם
Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth: I did stampe them as the myre of the street, and did spread them abroad.
GenevaThen did I beate them as small as the dust of the earth: I did treade them flat as the clay of the streete, and did spread them abroad.
וְ/אֶשְׁחָקֵ֖/ם כַּ/עֲפַר אָ֑רֶץ כְּ/טִיט חוּצ֥וֹת אֲדִקֵּ֖/ם אֶרְקָעֵֽ/ם
Thou also hast deliuered mee from the striuings of my people, thou hast kept mee to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not, shall serue me.
GenevaThou hast also deliuered me from the contentions of my people: thou hast preserued me to be the head ouer nations: the people which I knewe not, doe serue me.
וַֽ/תְּפַלְּטֵ֔/נִי מֵ/רִיבֵ֖י עַמִּ֑/י תִּשְׁמְרֵ֨/נִי֙ לְ/רֹ֣אשׁ גּוֹיִ֔ם עַ֥ם לֹא יָדַ֖עְתִּי יַעַבְדֻֽ/נִי
Strangers shall submit themselues vnto me: as soone as they heare, they shall be obedient vnto me.
GenevaStrangers shalbe in subiection to me: assoone as they heare, they shall obey me.
בְּנֵ֥י נֵכָ֖ר יִתְכַּֽחֲשׁוּ לִ֑/י לִ/שְׁמ֥וֹעַ אֹ֖זֶן יִשָּׁ֥מְעוּ לִֽ/י
Strangers shall fade away: and they shall bee afraid out of their close places.
GenevaStrangers shall shrinke away, and feare in their priuie chambers.
בְּנֵ֥י נֵכָ֖ר יִבֹּ֑לוּ וְ/יַחְגְּר֖וּ מִ/מִּסְגְּרוֹתָֽ/ם
The LORD liueth, and blessed be my rocke: and exalted be the God of the rocke of my saluation.
GenevaLet the Lord liue, and blessed be my strength: and God, euen the force of my saluation be exalted.
חַי יְהוָ֖ה וּ/בָר֣וּךְ צוּרִ֑/י וְ/יָרֻ֕ם אֱלֹהֵ֖י צ֥וּר יִשְׁעִֽ/י
It is God that auengeth mee, and that bringeth downe the people vnder me:
GenevaIt is God that giueth me power to reuenge me, and subdue the people vnder me,
הָ/אֵ֕ל הַ/נֹּתֵ֥ן נְקָמֹ֖ת לִ֑/י וּ/מוֹרִ֥יד עַמִּ֖ים תַּחְתֵּֽ/נִי
And that bringeth me forth from mine enemies: thou also hast lifted mee vp on high aboue them that rose vp against me: thou hast deliuered me from the violent man.
GenevaAnd rescueth me from mine enemies: (thou also hast lift me vp from them that rose against me, thou hast deliuered me from the cruell man.
וּ/מוֹצִיאִ֖/י מֵ/אֹֽיְבָ֑/י וּ/מִ/קָּמַ/י֙ תְּר֣וֹמְמֵ֔/נִי מֵ/אִ֥ישׁ חֲמָסִ֖ים תַּצִּילֵֽ/נִי
Therefore I will giue thankes vnto thee, O LORD, among the heathen: and I will sing praises vnto thy Name.
GenevaTherefore I will praise thee, O Lord amog the nations, and will sing vnto thy Name)
עַל כֵּ֛ן אוֹדְ/ךָ֥ יְהוָ֖ה בַּ/גּוֹיִ֑ם וּ/לְ/שִׁמְ/ךָ֖ אֲזַמֵּֽר
He is the towre of saluation for his king: and sheweth mercy to his Anointed, vnto Dauid, and to his seede for euermore.
GenevaHe is the tower of saluation for his King, and sheweth mercie to his anointed, euen to Dauid, and to his seede for euer.
מגדיל יְשׁוּע֣וֹת מַלְכּ֑/וֹ וְ/עֹֽשֶׂה חֶ֧סֶד לִ/מְשִׁיח֛/וֹ לְ/דָוִ֥ד וּ/לְ/זַרְע֖/וֹ עַד עוֹלָֽם
