Ecclesiastes 3

To euery thing there is a season, and a time to euery purpose vnder the heauen.

לַ/כֹּ֖ל זְמָ֑ן וְ/עֵ֥ת לְ/כָל חֵ֖פֶץ תַּ֥חַת הַ/שָּׁמָֽיִם

A time to be borne, and a time to die: a time to plant, and a time to pluck vp that which is planted.

A time to kill, and a time to heale: a time to breake downe, and a time to build vp.

עֵ֤ת לַ/הֲרוֹג֙ וְ/עֵ֣ת לִ/רְפּ֔וֹא עֵ֥ת לִ/פְר֖וֹץ וְ/עֵ֥ת לִ/בְנֽוֹת

A time to weepe, and a time to laugh: a time to mourne, and a time to dance.

עֵ֤ת לִ/בְכּוֹת֙ וְ/עֵ֣ת לִ/שְׂח֔וֹק עֵ֥ת סְפ֖וֹד וְ/עֵ֥ת רְקֽוֹד

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together: a time to imbrace, and a time to refraine from imbracing.

עֵ֚ת לְ/הַשְׁלִ֣יךְ אֲבָנִ֔ים וְ/עֵ֖ת כְּנ֣וֹס אֲבָנִ֑ים עֵ֣ת לַ/חֲב֔וֹק וְ/עֵ֖ת לִ/רְחֹ֥ק מֵ/חַבֵּֽק

A time to get, and a time to lose: a time to keepe, and a time to cast away.

עֵ֤ת לְ/בַקֵּשׁ֙ וְ/עֵ֣ת לְ/אַבֵּ֔ד עֵ֥ת לִ/שְׁמ֖וֹר וְ/עֵ֥ת לְ/הַשְׁלִֽיךְ

A time to rent, and a time to sow: a time to keepe silence, and a time to speake.

A time to loue, and a time to hate: a time of warre, and a time of peace.

עֵ֤ת לֶֽ/אֱהֹב֙ וְ/עֵ֣ת לִ/שְׂנֹ֔א עֵ֥ת מִלְחָמָ֖ה וְ/עֵ֥ת שָׁלֽוֹם

What profite hath hee that worketh, in that wherein he laboureth?

GenevaWhat profite hath hee that worketh of the thing wherein he trauaileth?

מַה יִּתְרוֹן֙ הָֽ/עוֹשֶׂ֔ה בַּ/אֲשֶׁ֖ר ה֥וּא עָמֵֽל

I haue seene the trauaile which God hath giuen to the sonnes of men, to be exercised in it.

GenevaI haue seene the trauaile that God hath giuen to ye sonnes of men to humble them thereby.

רָאִ֣יתִי אֶת הָֽ/עִנְיָ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֧ן אֱלֹהִ֛ים לִ/בְנֵ֥י הָ/אָדָ֖ם לַ/עֲנ֥וֹת בּֽ/וֹ

He hath made euery thing beautifull in his time: also hee hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can finde out the worke that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

GenevaHe hath made euery thing beautifull in his time: also he hath set the worlde in their heart, yet can not man finde out the worke that God hath wrought from the beginning euen to the end.

אֶת הַ/כֹּ֥ל עָשָׂ֖ה יָפֶ֣ה בְ/עִתּ֑/וֹ גַּ֤ם אֶת הָ/עֹלָם֙ נָתַ֣ן בְּ/לִבָּ֔/ם מִ/בְּלִ֞י אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹא יִמְצָ֣א הָ/אָדָ֗ם אֶת הַֽ/מַּעֲשֶׂ֛ה אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂ֥ה הָ/אֱלֹהִ֖ים מֵ/רֹ֥אשׁ וְ/עַד סֽוֹף

I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to reioyce, and to doe good in his life.

GenevaI know that there is nothing good in them, but to reioyce, and to doe good in his life.

יָדַ֕עְתִּי כִּ֛י אֵ֥ין ט֖וֹב בָּ֑/ם כִּ֣י אִם לִ/שְׂמ֔וֹחַ וְ/לַ/עֲשׂ֥וֹת ט֖וֹב בְּ/חַיָּֽי/ו

And also that euery man should eate and drinke, and enioy the good of all his labour: it is the gift of God.

GenevaAnd also that euery man eateth and drinketh, and seeth the commoditie of all his labour. this is the gift of God.

וְ/גַ֤ם כָּל הָ/אָדָם֙ שֶׁ/יֹּאכַ֣ל וְ/שָׁתָ֔ה וְ/רָאָ֥ה ט֖וֹב בְּ/כָל עֲמָל֑/וֹ מַתַּ֥ת אֱלֹהִ֖ים הִֽיא

I know that whatsoeuer God doeth, it shalbe for euer: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doth it, that men should feare before him.

GenevaI knowe that whatsoeuer God shall doe, it shalbe for euer: to it can no man adde, and from it can none diminish: for God hath done it, that they should feare before him.

יָדַ֗עְתִּי כִּ֠י כָּל אֲשֶׁ֨ר יַעֲשֶׂ֤ה הָ/אֱלֹהִים֙ ה֚וּא יִהְיֶ֣ה לְ/עוֹלָ֔ם עָלָי/ו֙ אֵ֣ין לְ/הוֹסִ֔יף וּ/מִמֶּ֖/נּוּ אֵ֣ין לִ/גְרֹ֑עַ וְ/הָ/אֱלֹהִ֣ים עָשָׂ֔ה שֶׁ/יִּֽרְא֖וּ מִ/לְּ/פָנָֽי/ו

That which hath beene, is now: and that which is to be, hath alreadie beene, and God requireth that which is past.

GenevaWhat is that that hath bene? that is nowe: and that that shalbe, hath now bene: for God requireth that which is past.

מַה שֶּֽׁ/הָיָה֙ כְּבָ֣ר ה֔וּא וַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִ/הְי֖וֹת כְּבָ֣ר הָיָ֑ה וְ/הָ/אֱלֹהִ֖ים יְבַקֵּ֥שׁ אֶת נִרְדָּֽף

¶ And moreouer, I sawe vnder the Sunne the place of iudgement, that wickednesse was there; and the place of righteousnesse, that iniquitie was there.

GenevaAnd moreouer I haue seene vnder the sunne the place of iudgement, where was wickednesse, and the place of iustice where was iniquitie.

וְ/ע֥וֹד רָאִ֖יתִי תַּ֣חַת הַ/שָּׁ֑מֶשׁ מְק֤וֹם הַ/מִּשְׁפָּט֙ שָׁ֣מָּ/ה הָ/רֶ֔שַׁע וּ/מְק֥וֹם הַ/צֶּ֖דֶק שָׁ֥מָּ/ה הָ/רָֽשַׁע

I said in mine heart, God shall iudge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there, for euery purpose and for euery worke.

GenevaI thought in mine heart, God wil iudge the iust and the wicked: for time is there for euery purpose and for euery worke.

אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּ/לִבִּ֔/י אֶת הַ/צַּדִּיק֙ וְ/אֶת הָ֣/רָשָׁ֔ע יִשְׁפֹּ֖ט הָ/אֱלֹהִ֑ים כִּי עֵ֣ת לְ/כָל חֵ֔פֶץ וְ/עַ֥ל כָּל הַֽ/מַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה שָֽׁם

I said in my heart concerning the estate of the sonnes of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselues are beasts.

GenevaI considered in mine heart the state of the children of men that God had purged them: yet to see to, they are in themselues as beastes.

אָמַ֤רְתִּֽי אֲנִי֙ בְּ/לִבִּ֔/י עַל דִּבְרַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י הָ/אָדָ֔ם לְ/בָרָ֖/ם הָ/אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְ/לִ/רְא֕וֹת שְׁ/הֶם בְּהֵמָ֥ה הֵ֖מָּה לָ/הֶֽם

For that which befalleth the sonnes of men, befalleth beastes, euen one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea they haue all one breath, so that a man hath no preheminence aboue a beast; for all is vanitie.

GenevaFor the condition of the children of men, and the condition of beasts are euen as one condition vnto them. As the one dyeth, so dyeth the other: for they haue all one breath, and there is no excellency of man aboue ye beast: for all is vanitie.

כִּי֩ מִקְרֶ֨ה בְֽנֵי הָ/אָדָ֜ם וּ/מִקְרֶ֣ה הַ/בְּהֵמָ֗ה וּ/מִקְרֶ֤ה אֶחָד֙ לָ/הֶ֔ם כְּ/מ֥וֹת זֶה֙ כֵּ֣ן מ֣וֹת זֶ֔ה וְ/ר֥וּחַ אֶחָ֖ד לַ/כֹּ֑ל וּ/מוֹתַ֨ר הָ/אָדָ֤ם מִן הַ/בְּהֵמָה֙ אָ֔יִן כִּ֥י הַ/כֹּ֖ל הָֽבֶל

All goe vnto one place, all are of the dust, and all turne to dust againe.

GenevaAll goe to one place, and all was of the dust, and all shall returne to the dust.

הַ/כֹּ֥ל הוֹלֵ֖ךְ אֶל מָק֣וֹם אֶחָ֑ד הַ/כֹּל֙ הָיָ֣ה מִן הֶֽ/עָפָ֔ר וְ/הַ/כֹּ֖ל שָׁ֥ב אֶל הֶ/עָפָֽר

Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth vpward; and the spirit of the beast that goeth downeward to the earth?

GenevaWho knoweth whether the spirit of man ascend vpward, and the spirit of the beast descend downeward to the earth?

מִ֣י יוֹדֵ֗עַ ר֚וּחַ בְּנֵ֣י הָ/אָדָ֔ם הָ/עֹלָ֥ה הִ֖יא לְ/מָ֑עְלָ/ה וְ/ר֨וּחַ֙ הַ/בְּהֵמָ֔ה הַ/יֹּרֶ֥דֶת הִ֖יא לְ/מַ֥טָּה לָ/אָֽרֶץ

Wherefore I perceiue that there is nothing better, then that a man should reioyce in his owne workes: for that is his portion; for who shall bring him to see what shalbe after him?

וְ/רָאִ֗יתִי כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין טוֹב֙ מֵ/אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִשְׂמַ֤ח הָ/אָדָם֙ בְּֽ/מַעֲשָׂ֔י/ו כִּי ה֖וּא חֶלְק֑/וֹ כִּ֣י מִ֤י יְבִיאֶ֨/נּוּ֙ לִ/רְא֔וֹת בְּ/מֶ֖ה שֶׁ/יִּהְיֶ֥ה אַחֲרָֽי/ו
