Esther 4
When Mordecai perceiued all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the citie, and cried with a loud and a bitter crie:
GenevaNow when Mordecai perceiued all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackecloth and ashes, and went out into the middes of the citie, and cryed with a great crye, and a bitter.
וּ/מָרְדֳּכַ֗י יָדַע֙ אֶת כָּל אֲשֶׁ֣ר נַעֲשָׂ֔ה וַ/יִּקְרַ֤ע מָרְדֳּכַי֙ אֶת בְּגָדָ֔י/ו וַ/יִּלְבַּ֥שׁ שַׂ֖ק וָ/אֵ֑פֶר וַ/יֵּצֵא֙ בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הָ/עִ֔יר וַ/יִּזְעַ֛ק זְעָקָ֥ה גְדֹלָ֖ה וּ/מָרָֽה
And came euen before the kings gate: for none might enter into the kings gate clothed with sackcloth.
GenevaAnd he came euen before the Kings gate, but he might not enter within the Kings gate, being clothed with sackecloth.
וַ/יָּב֕וֹא עַ֖ד לִ/פְנֵ֣י שַֽׁעַר הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין לָ/ב֛וֹא אֶל שַׁ֥עַר הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ בִּ/לְב֥וּשׁ שָֽׂק
And in euery prouince, whithersoeuer the kings commaundement, and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Iewes, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing, and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
GenevaAnd in euery prouince, and place, whither the Kings charge and his commission came, there was great sorowe among the Iewes, and fasting, and weeping and mourning, and many laye in sackecloth and in ashes.
וּ/בְ/כָל מְדִינָ֣ה וּ/מְדִינָ֗ה מְקוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דְּבַר הַ/מֶּ֤לֶךְ וְ/דָת/וֹ֙ מַגִּ֔יעַ אֵ֤בֶל גָּדוֹל֙ לַ/יְּהוּדִ֔ים וְ/צ֥וֹם וּ/בְכִ֖י וּ/מִסְפֵּ֑ד שַׂ֣ק וָ/אֵ֔פֶר יֻצַּ֖ע לָֽ/רַבִּֽים
¶ So Esthers maides and her chamberlaines came, and told it her: then was the Queene exceedingly grieued, and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away the sackcloth from him: but he receiued it not.
GenevaThen Esters maydes and her eunuches came and tolde it her: therefore the Queene was very heauie, and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackecloth from him, but he receiued it not.
וַ֠/תָּבוֹאינָה נַעֲר֨וֹת אֶסְתֵּ֤ר וְ/סָרִיסֶ֨י/הָ֙ וַ/יַּגִּ֣ידוּ לָ֔/הּ וַ/תִּתְחַלְחַ֥ל הַ/מַּלְכָּ֖ה מְאֹ֑ד וַ/תִּשְׁלַ֨ח בְּגָדִ֜ים לְ/הַלְבִּ֣ישׁ אֶֽת מָרְדֳּכַ֗י וּ/לְ/הָסִ֥יר שַׂקּ֛/וֹ מֵ/עָלָ֖י/ו וְ/לֹ֥א קִבֵּֽל
Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the kings chamberlaines, whom he had appointed to attend vpon her, and gaue him a commaundement to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
GenevaThen called Ester Hatach one of the Kings eunuches, whom he had appointed to serue her, and gaue him a commandement vnto Mordecai, to knowe what it was, and why it was.
וַ/תִּקְרָא֩ אֶסְתֵּ֨ר לַ/הֲתָ֜ךְ מִ/סָּרִיסֵ֤י הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֶעֱמִ֣יד לְ/פָנֶ֔י/הָ וַ/תְּצַוֵּ֖/הוּ עַֽל מָרְדֳּכָ֑י לָ/דַ֥עַת מַה זֶּ֖ה וְ/עַל מַה זֶּֽה
So Hatach went forth to Mordecai, vnto the street of the citie, which was before the kings gate:
GenevaSo Hatach went foorth to Mordecai vnto the streete of the citie, which was before the Kings gate.
וַ/יֵּצֵ֥א הֲתָ֖ךְ אֶֽל מָרְדֳּכָ֑י אֶל רְח֣וֹב הָ/עִ֔יר אֲשֶׁ֖ר לִ/פְנֵ֥י שַֽׁעַר הַ/מֶּֽלֶךְ
And Mordecai tolde him of all that had happened vnto him, and of the summe of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the Kings treasuries for the Iewes, to destroy them.
GenevaAnd Mordecai tolde him of all that which had come vnto him, and of the summe of the siluer that Haman had promised to pay vnto the Kings treasures, because of the Iewes, for to destroy them.
וַ/יַּגֶּד ל֣/וֹ מָרְדֳּכַ֔י אֵ֖ת כָּל אֲשֶׁ֣ר קָרָ֑/הוּ וְ/אֵ֣ת פָּרָשַׁ֣ת הַ/כֶּ֗סֶף אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֤ר הָמָן֙ לִ֠/שְׁקוֹל עַל גִּנְזֵ֥י הַ/מֶּ֛לֶךְ ב/יהודיים לְ/אַבְּדָֽ/ם
Also he gaue him the copie of the writing of the decree, that was giuen at Shushan to destroy them, to shewe it vnto Esther, and to declare it vnto her, and to charge her that she should goe in vnto the king, to make supplication vnto him, and to make request before him, for her people.
GenevaAlso he gaue him the copy of the writing and commission that was giuen at Shushan, to destroy them, that he might shewe it vnto Ester and declare it vnto her, and to charge her that she should goe in to the King, and make petition and supplication before him for her people.
וְ/אֶת פַּתְשֶׁ֣גֶן כְּתָֽב הַ֠/דָּת אֲשֶׁר נִתַּ֨ן בְּ/שׁוּשָׁ֤ן לְ/הַשְׁמִידָ/ם֙ נָ֣תַן ל֔/וֹ לְ/הַרְא֥וֹת אֶת אֶסְתֵּ֖ר וּ/לְ/הַגִּ֣יד לָ֑/הּ וּ/לְ/צַוּ֣וֹת עָלֶ֗י/הָ לָ/ב֨וֹא אֶל הַ/מֶּ֧לֶךְ לְ/הִֽתְחַנֶּן ל֛/וֹ וּ/לְ/בַקֵּ֥שׁ מִ/לְּ/פָנָ֖י/ו עַל עַמָּֽ/הּ
And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
GenevaSo when Hatach came, he told Ester the wordes of Mordecai.
וַ/יָּב֖וֹא הֲתָ֑ךְ וַ/יַּגֵּ֣ד לְ/אֶסְתֵּ֔ר אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֥י מָרְדֳּכָֽי
¶ Againe Esther spake vnto Hatach, and gaue him commaundement vnto Mordecai;
GenevaThen Ester sayde vnto Hatach, and commanded him to say vnto Mordecai,
וַ/תֹּ֤אמֶר אֶסְתֵּר֙ לַ/הֲתָ֔ךְ וַ/תְּצַוֵּ֖/הוּ אֶֽל מָרְדֳּכָֽי
All the Kings seruants, and the people of the kings prouinces do know, that whosoeuer, whether man or woman, shall come vnto the King into the inner court, who is not called, there is one lawe of his to put him to death, except such to whom the King shall hold out the golden scepter, that he may liue: but I haue not beene called to come in vnto the King, these thirtie dayes.
GenevaAll the Kings seruants and the people of the Kings prouinces doe knowe, that whosoeuer, man or woman, that commeth to the King into the inner court, which is not called, there is a law of his, that he shall dye, except him to whom the King holdeth out the golden rodde, that he may liue. Now I haue not bene called to come vnto the King these thirtie dayes.
כָּל עַבְדֵ֣י הַ/מֶּ֡לֶךְ וְ/עַם מְדִינ֨וֹת הַ/מֶּ֜לֶךְ יֽוֹדְעִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר כָּל אִ֣ישׁ וְ/אִשָּׁ֡ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָבֽוֹא אֶל הַ/מֶּלֶךְ֩ אֶל הֶ/חָצֵ֨ר הַ/פְּנִימִ֜ית אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא יִקָּרֵ֗א אַחַ֤ת דָּת/וֹ֙ לְ/הָמִ֔ית לְ֠/בַד מֵ/אֲשֶׁ֨ר יֽוֹשִׁיט ל֥/וֹ הַ/מֶּ֛לֶךְ אֶת שַׁרְבִ֥יט הַ/זָּהָ֖ב וְ/חָיָ֑ה וַ/אֲנִ֗י לֹ֤א נִקְרֵ֨אתי֙ לָ/ב֣וֹא אֶל הַ/מֶּ֔לֶךְ זֶ֖ה שְׁלוֹשִׁ֥ים יֽוֹם
And they tolde to Mordecai Esthers words.
GenevaAnd they certified Mordecai of Esters wordes.
וַ/יַּגִּ֣ידוּ לְ/מָרְדֳּכָ֔י אֵ֖ת דִּבְרֵ֥י אֶסְתֵּֽר
Then Mordecai commanded to answere Esther; Thinke not with thy selfe that thou shalt escape in the kings house, more then all the Iewes.
GenevaAnd Mordecai saide, that they should answere Ester thus, Thinke not with thy selfe that thou shalt escape in the Kings house, more then all the Iewes.
וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר מָרְדֳּכַ֖י לְ/הָשִׁ֣יב אֶל אֶסְתֵּ֑ר אַל תְּדַמִּ֣י בְ/נַפְשֵׁ֔/ךְ לְ/הִמָּלֵ֥ט בֵּית הַ/מֶּ֖לֶךְ מִ/כָּל הַ/יְּהוּדִֽים
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliuerance arise to the Iewes from another place, but thou and thy fathers house shall be destroyed: And who knoweth, whether thou art come to the kingdome for such a time as this?
GenevaFor if thou holdest thy peace at this time, comfort and deliuerance shall appeare to the Iewes out of another place, but thou and thy fathers house shall perish: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdome for such a time?
כִּ֣י אִם הַחֲרֵ֣שׁ תַּחֲרִישִׁי֮ בָּ/עֵ֣ת הַ/זֹּאת֒ רֶ֣וַח וְ/הַצָּלָ֞ה יַעֲמ֤וֹד לַ/יְּהוּדִים֙ מִ/מָּק֣וֹם אַחֵ֔ר וְ/אַ֥תְּ וּ/בֵית אָבִ֖י/ךְ תֹּאבֵ֑דוּ וּ/מִ֣י יוֹדֵ֔עַ אִם לְ/עֵ֣ת כָּ/זֹ֔את הִגַּ֖עַתְּ לַ/מַּלְכֽוּת
¶ Then Esther bade them returne Mordecai this answere:
GenevaThen Ester commanded to answere Mordecai,
וַ/תֹּ֥אמֶר אֶסְתֵּ֖ר לְ/הָשִׁ֥יב אֶֽל מָרְדֳּכָֽי
Goe, gather together all the Iewes that are present in Shushan, and fast yee for me, and neither eate nor drinke three dayes, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise, and so will I goe in vnto the king, which is not according to the Law, and if I perish, I perish.
GenevaGoe, and assemble all the Iewes that are found in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and eate not, nor drinke in three dayes, day nor night. I also and my maydes will fast likewise, and so will I go in to the King, which is not according to the lawe: and if I perish, I perish.
לֵךְ֩ כְּנ֨וֹס אֶת כָּל הַ/יְּהוּדִ֜ים הַֽ/נִּמְצְאִ֣ים בְּ/שׁוּשָׁ֗ן וְ/צ֣וּמוּ עָ֠לַ/י וְ/אַל תֹּאכְל֨וּ וְ/אַל תִּשְׁתּ֜וּ שְׁלֹ֤שֶׁת יָמִים֙ לַ֣יְלָה וָ/י֔וֹם גַּם אֲנִ֥י וְ/נַעֲרֹתַ֖/י אָצ֣וּם כֵּ֑ן וּ/בְ/כֵ֞ן אָב֤וֹא אֶל הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא כַ/דָּ֔ת וְ/כַ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָבַ֖דְתִּי אָבָֽדְתִּי
So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
GenevaSo Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Ester had commanded him.
וַֽ/יַּעֲבֹ֖ר מָרְדֳּכָ֑י וַ/יַּ֕עַשׂ כְּ/כֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר צִוְּתָ֥ה עָלָ֖י/ו אֶסְתֵּֽר
