Chapter 24
Isaiah 24
Behold, the LORD maketh the earth emptie, and maketh it waste, and turneth it vpside downe, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
GenevaBehold, the Lord maketh the earth emptie, and hee maketh it waste: hee turneth it vpside downe, and scattereth abrode the inhabitants thereof.
הִנֵּ֧ה יְהוָ֛ה בּוֹקֵ֥ק הָ/אָ֖רֶץ וּ/בֽוֹלְקָ֑/הּ וְ/עִוָּ֣ה פָנֶ֔י/הָ וְ/הֵפִ֖יץ יֹשְׁבֶֽי/הָ
And it shall be as with the people, so with the priest, as with the seruant, so with his master, as with the maid, so with her mistresse, as with the buyer, so with the seller, as with the lender, so with the borower, as with the taker of vsurie, so with the giuer of vsurie to him.
GenevaAnd there shalbe like people, like Priest, and like seruaunt, like master, like maide, like mistresse, like bier, like seller, like lender, like borower, like giuer, like taker to vsurie.
וְ/הָיָ֤ה כָ/עָם֙ כַּ/כֹּהֵ֔ן כַּ/עֶ֨בֶד֙ כַּֽ/אדֹנָ֔י/ו כַּ/שִּׁפְחָ֖ה כַּ/גְּבִרְתָּ֑/הּ כַּ/קּוֹנֶה֙ כַּ/מּוֹכֵ֔ר כַּ/מַּלְוֶה֙ כַּ/לֹּוֶ֔ה כַּ/נֹּשֶׁ֕ה כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֖ר נֹשֶׁ֥א בֽ/וֹ
The land shall be vtterly emptied, and vtterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.
GenevaThe earth shalbe cleane emptied, and vtterly spoiled: for the Lord hath spoken this worde.
הִבּ֧וֹק תִּבּ֛וֹק הָ/אָ֖רֶץ וְ/הִבּ֣וֹז תִּבּ֑וֹז כִּ֣י יְהוָ֔ה דִּבֶּ֖ר אֶת הַ/דָּבָ֥ר הַ/זֶּֽה
The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughtie people of the earth doe languish.
GenevaThe earth lamenteth and fadeth away: the world is feeble and decaied: the proude people of the earth are weakened.
אָבְלָ֤ה נָֽבְלָה֙ הָ/אָ֔רֶץ אֻמְלְלָ֥ה נָבְלָ֖ה תֵּבֵ֑ל אֻמְלָ֖לוּ מְר֥וֹם עַם הָ/אָֽרֶץ
The earth also is defiled vnder the inhabitants thereof: because they haue transgressed the lawes, changed the ordinance, broken the euerlasting couenant.
GenevaThe earth also deceiueth, because of the inhabitantes thereof: for they transgressed the lawes: they changed the ordinances, and brake the euerlasting couenant.
וְ/הָ/אָ֥רֶץ חָנְפָ֖ה תַּ֣חַת יֹשְׁבֶ֑י/הָ כִּֽי עָבְר֤וּ תוֹרֹת֙ חָ֣לְפוּ חֹ֔ק הֵפֵ֖רוּ בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם
Therefore hath the curse deuoured the earth, and they that dwell therin are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
GenevaTherefore hath the curse deuoured the earth, and the inhabitantes thereof are desolate. Wherefore the inhabitants of the land are burned vp, and fewe men are left.
עַל כֵּ֗ן אָלָה֙ אָ֣כְלָה אֶ֔רֶץ וַֽ/יֶּאְשְׁמ֖וּ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי בָ֑/הּ עַל כֵּ֗ן חָרוּ֙ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי אֶ֔רֶץ וְ/נִשְׁאַ֥ר אֱנ֖וֹשׁ מִזְעָֽר
The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merrie hearted doe sigh.
GenevaThe wine faileth, the vine hath no might: all that were of merie heart, doe mourne.
אָבַ֥ל תִּיר֖וֹשׁ אֻמְלְלָה גָ֑פֶן נֶאֶנְח֖וּ כָּל שִׂמְחֵי לֵֽב
The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that reioyce, endeth, the ioy of the harpe ceaseth.

שָׁבַת֙ מְשׂ֣וֹשׂ תֻּפִּ֔ים חָדַ֖ל שְׁא֣וֹן עַלִּיזִ֑ים שָׁבַ֖ת מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ כִּנּֽוֹר
They shall not drinke wine with a song, strong drinke shall bee bitter to them that drinke it.
GenevaThey shall not drinke wine with mirth: strong drinke shall be bitter to them that drinke it.
בַּ/שִּׁ֖יר לֹ֣א יִשְׁתּוּ יָ֑יִן יֵמַ֥ר שֵׁכָ֖ר לְ/שֹׁתָֽי/ו
The city of confusion is broken downe: euery house is shut vp, that no man may come in.

נִשְׁבְּרָ֖ה קִרְיַת תֹּ֑הוּ סֻגַּ֥ר כָּל בַּ֖יִת מִ/בּֽוֹא
There is a crying for wine in the streets, all ioy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.
GenevaThere is a crying for wine in the streetes: al ioy is darkened: the mirth of the world is gone away.
צְוָחָ֥ה עַל הַ/יַּ֖יִן בַּֽ/חוּצ֑וֹת עָֽרְבָה֙ כָּל שִׂמְחָ֔ה גָּלָ֖ה מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ הָ/אָֽרֶץ
In the citie is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

נִשְׁאַ֥ר בָּ/עִ֖יר שַׁמָּ֑ה וּ/שְׁאִיָּ֖ה יֻכַּת שָֽׁעַר
¶ When thus it shalbe in the midst of the land among the people: there shall be as the shaking of an oliue tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.
GenevaSurely thus shall it bee in the middes of the earth, among the people, as the shaking of an oliue tree, and as the grapes when the vintage is ended.
כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה יִהְיֶ֛ה בְּ/קֶ֥רֶב הָ/אָ֖רֶץ בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ הָֽ/עַמִּ֑ים כְּ/נֹ֣קֶף זַ֔יִת כְּ/עוֹלֵלֹ֖ת אִם כָּלָ֥ה בָצִֽיר
They shal lift vp their voice, they shal sing, for the maiesty of the LORD, they shall crie aloud from the sea.
GenevaThey shall lift vp their voyce: they shall shout for the magnificence of the Lord: they shall reioyce from the sea.
הֵ֛מָּה יִשְׂא֥וּ קוֹלָ֖/ם יָרֹ֑נּוּ בִּ/גְא֣וֹן יְהוָ֔ה צָהֲל֖וּ מִ/יָּֽם
Wherefore, glorifie ye the LORD in the fires, euen the Name of the LORD God of Israel in the yles of the Sea.
GenevaWherefore praise yee the Lord in the valleis, euen the Name of the Lord God of Israel, in the yles of the sea.
עַל כֵּ֥ן בָּ/אֻרִ֖ים כַּבְּד֣וּ יְהוָ֑ה בְּ/אִיֵּ֣י הַ/יָּ֔ם שֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
¶ From the vttermost part of the earth haue we heard songs, euen glory to the righteous: but I said, My leannesse, my leannesse, woe vnto me: the treacherous dealers haue dealt treacherously, yea the treacherous dealers haue dealt very treacherously.
GenevaFrom the vttermost part of the earth wee haue heard praises, euen glory to the iust, and I sayd, My leanesse, my leanesse, woe is mee: the transgressours haue offended: yea, the transgressours haue grieuously offended.
מִ/כְּנַ֨ף הָ/אָ֜רֶץ זְמִרֹ֤ת שָׁמַ֨עְנוּ֙ צְבִ֣י לַ/צַּדִּ֔יק וָ/אֹמַ֛ר רָזִי לִ֥/י רָֽזִי לִ֖/י א֣וֹי לִ֑/י בֹּגְדִ֣ים בָּגָ֔דוּ וּ/בֶ֥גֶד בּוֹגְדִ֖ים בָּגָֽדוּ
Feare, and the pit, & the snare are vpon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.

פַּ֥חַד וָ/פַ֖חַת וָ/פָ֑ח עָלֶ֖י/ךָ יוֹשֵׁ֥ב הָ/אָֽרֶץ
And it shall come to passe, that he who fleeth from the noise of the feare, shall fall into the pit; and he that commeth vp out of the midst of the pit, shalbe taken in the snare: for the windowes from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth doe shake.

וְֽ֠/הָיָה הַ/נָּ֞ס מִ/קּ֤וֹל הַ/פַּ֨חַד֙ יִפֹּ֣ל אֶל הַ/פַּ֔חַת וְ/הָֽ/עוֹלֶה֙ מִ/תּ֣וֹךְ הַ/פַּ֔חַת יִלָּכֵ֖ד בַּ/פָּ֑ח כִּֽי אֲרֻבּ֤וֹת מִ/מָּרוֹם֙ נִפְתָּ֔חוּ וַֽ/יִּרְעֲשׁ֖וּ מ֥וֹסְדֵי אָֽרֶץ
The earth is vtterly broken downe, the earth is cleane dissolued, the earth is moued exceedingly.

רֹ֥עָה הִֽתְרֹעֲעָ֖ה הָ/אָ֑רֶץ פּ֤וֹר הִֽתְפּוֹרְרָה֙ אֶ֔רֶץ מ֥וֹט הִֽתְמוֹטְטָ֖ה אָֽרֶץ
The earth shall reele to and fro, like a drunkard, and shall be remooued like a cottage, and the transgression thereof shall be heauie vpon it, and it shall fall, and not rise againe.
GenevaThe earth shall reele to and from like a drunken man, and shall be remooued like a tent, and the iniquitie thereof shall be heauie vpon it: so that it shall fall, and rise no more.
נ֣וֹעַ תָּנ֤וּעַ אֶ֨רֶץ֙ כַּ/שִּׁכּ֔וֹר וְ/הִֽתְנוֹדְדָ֖ה כַּ/מְּלוּנָ֑ה וְ/כָבַ֤ד עָלֶ֨י/הָ֙ פִּשְׁעָ֔/הּ וְ/נָפְלָ֖ה וְ/לֹא תֹסִ֥יף קֽוּם
And it shall come to passe in that day, that the LORD shall punish the hoste of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth vpon the earth.
GenevaAnd in that day shall the Lord visite the hoste aboue that is on hie, euen the Kinges of the world that are vpon the earth.
וְ/הָיָה֙ בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֔וּא יִפְקֹ֧ד יְהוָ֛ה עַל צְבָ֥א הַ/מָּר֖וֹם בַּ/מָּר֑וֹם וְ/עַל מַלְכֵ֥י הָ/אֲדָמָ֖ה עַל הָ/אֲדָמָֽה
And they shalbe gathered together as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut vp in the prison, and after many dayes shall they bee visited.

וְ/אֻסְּפ֨וּ אֲסֵפָ֤ה אַסִּיר֙ עַל בּ֔וֹר וְ/סֻגְּר֖וּ עַל מַסְגֵּ֑ר וּ/מֵ/רֹ֥ב יָמִ֖ים יִפָּקֵֽדוּ
Then the Moone shall be confounded, and the Sunne ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reigne in mount Zion and in Ierusalem, and before his ancients gloriously.
GenevaThen the moone shall be abashed, and the sunne ashamed, when the Lord of hostes shall reigne in mount Zion and in Ierusalem: and glory shalbe before his ancient men.
וְ/חָֽפְרָה֙ הַ/לְּבָנָ֔ה וּ/בוֹשָׁ֖ה הַֽ/חַמָּ֑ה כִּֽי מָלַ֞ךְ יְהוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת בְּ/הַ֤ר צִיּוֹן֙ וּ/בִ/יר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם וְ/נֶ֥גֶד זְקֵנָ֖י/ו כָּבֽוֹד
