Isaiah 23

The burden of Tyre. Howle yee ships of Tarshish, for it is laide waste, so that there is no house, no entring in: from the land of Chittim it is reuealed to them.

GenevaThe burden of Tyrus. Howle, yee shippes of Tarshish: for it is destroied, so that there is none house: none shall come from the lande of Chittim: it is reueiled vnto them.

מַשָּׂ֖א צֹ֑ר הֵילִ֣ילוּ אֳנִיּ֣וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֗ישׁ כִּֽי שֻׁדַּ֤ד מִ/בַּ֨יִת֙ מִ/בּ֔וֹא מֵ/אֶ֥רֶץ כִּתִּ֖ים נִגְלָה לָֽ/מוֹ

Be still, yee inhabitants of the yle, thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that passe ouer the sea, haue replenished.

GenevaBe still, yee that dwell in the yles: the marchantes of Zidon, and such as passe ouer the sea, haue replenished thee.

דֹּ֖מּוּ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי אִ֑י סֹחֵ֥ר צִיד֛וֹן עֹבֵ֥ר יָ֖ם מִלְאֽוּ/ךְ

And by great waters the seede of Sihor, the haruest of the riuer is her reuenew, and she is a mart of nations.

GenevaThe seede of Nilus growing by the abundance of waters, and the haruest of the riuer was her reuenues, and she was a marte of the nations.

וּ/בְ/מַ֤יִם רַבִּים֙ זֶ֣רַע שִׁחֹ֔ר קְצִ֥יר יְא֖וֹר תְּבֽוּאָתָ֑/הּ וַ/תְּהִ֖י סְחַ֥ר גּוֹיִֽם

Be thou ashamed, O Zidon; for the sea hath spoken, euen the strength of the sea, saying; I trauell not, nor bring foorth children, neither doe I nourish vp yong men, nor bring vp virgines.

GenevaBe ashamed, thou Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, euen the strength of the sea, saying, I haue not trauailed, nor brought forth children, neither nourished yong men, nor brought vp virgins.

בּ֣וֹשִׁי צִיד֔וֹן כִּֽי אָמַ֣ר יָ֔ם מָע֥וֹז הַ/יָּ֖ם לֵ/אמֹ֑ר לֹֽא חַ֣לְתִּי וְ/לֹֽא יָלַ֗דְתִּי וְ/לֹ֥א גִדַּ֛לְתִּי בַּחוּרִ֖ים רוֹמַ֥מְתִּי בְתוּלֽוֹת

As at the report concerning Egypt, so shal they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.

GenevaWhen the fame commeth to the Egyptians, they shall be sorie, concerning the rumour of Tyrus.

כַּֽ/אֲשֶׁר שֵׁ֖מַע לְ/מִצְרָ֑יִם יָחִ֖ילוּ כְּ/שֵׁ֥מַע צֹֽר

Passe ye ouer to Tarshish, howle ye inhabitants of the yle.

GenevaGoe you ouer to Tarshish: howle, yee that dwell in the yles.

עִבְר֖וּ תַּרְשִׁ֑ישָׁ/ה הֵילִ֖ילוּ יֹ֥שְׁבֵי אִֽי

Is this your ioyous citie, whose antiquitie is of ancient dayes? her owne feete shall cary her afarre off to soiourne.

GenevaIs not this that your glorious citie? her antiquitie is of ancient daies: her owne feete shall leade her afarre off to be a soiourner.

הֲ/זֹ֥את לָ/כֶ֖ם עַלִּיזָ֑ה מִֽ/ימֵי קֶ֤דֶם קַדְמָתָ/הּ֙ יֹבִל֣וּ/הָ רַגְלֶ֔י/הָ מֵֽ/רָח֖וֹק לָ/גֽוּר

Who hath taken this counsell against Tyre the crowning citie, whose merchants are princes, whose traffiquers are the honourable of the earth?

GenevaWho hath decreed this against Tyrus (that crowneth men) whose marchantes are princes? whose chapmen are the nobles of the worlde?

מִ֚י יָעַ֣ץ זֹ֔את עַל צֹ֖ר הַ/מַּֽעֲטִירָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר סֹחֲרֶ֨י/ה֙ שָׂרִ֔ים כִּנְעָנֶ֖י/הָ נִכְבַּדֵּי אָֽרֶץ

The LORD of hostes hath purposed it, to staine the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.

GenevaThe Lord of hostes hath decreed this, to staine the pride of all glorie, and to bring to contempt all them that be glorious in the earth.

יְהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת יְעָצָ֑/הּ לְ/חַלֵּל֙ גְּא֣וֹן כָּל צְבִ֔י לְ/הָקֵ֖ל כָּל נִכְבַּדֵּי אָֽרֶץ

Passe through thy land as a riuer O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.

GenevaPasse through thy lande like a flood to the daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.

עִבְרִ֥י אַרְצֵ֖/ךְ כַּ/יְאֹ֑ר בַּת תַּרְשִׁ֕ישׁ אֵ֖ין מֵ֥זַח עֽוֹד

He stretched out his hand ouer the sea, hee shooke the kingdomes: the LORD hath giuen a commandement against the merchant citie, to destroy the strong holdes thereof.

GenevaHe stretched out his hand vpon the sea: he shooke the kingdomes: the Lord hath giuen a commandement concerning the place of marchandise, to destroy the power thereof.

יָד/וֹ֙ נָטָ֣ה עַל הַ/יָּ֔ם הִרְגִּ֖יז מַמְלָכ֑וֹת יְהוָה֙ צִוָּ֣ה אֶל כְּנַ֔עַן לַ/שְׁמִ֖ד מָעֻזְנֶֽי/הָ

And he said, Thou shalt no more reioice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, passe ouer to Chittim, there also shalt thou haue no rest.

GenevaAnd he saide, Thou shalt no more reioyce when thou art oppressed: O virgin daughter of Zidon: rise vp, goe ouer vnto Chittim: yet there thou shalt haue no rest.

וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר לֹֽא תוֹסִ֥יפִי ע֖וֹד לַ/עְל֑וֹז הַֽ/מְעֻשָּׁקָ֞ה בְּתוּלַ֣ת בַּת צִיד֗וֹן כתיים ק֣וּמִי עֲבֹ֔רִי גַּם שָׁ֖ם לֹא יָנ֥וּחַֽ לָֽ/ךְ

Behold, the land of the Caldeans, this people was not till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwel in the wildernesse: they set vp the towers thereof, they raised vp the palaces thereof, and he brought it to ruine.

GenevaBehold the lande of the Caldeans: this was no people: Asshur founded it by the inhabitantes of the wildernesse: they set vp the towers thereof: they raised the palaces thereof and hee brought it to ruine.

הֵ֣ן אֶ֣רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּ֗ים זֶ֤ה הָ/עָם֙ לֹ֣א הָיָ֔ה אַשּׁ֖וּר יְסָדָ֣/הּ לְ/צִיִּ֑ים הֵקִ֣ימוּ בחיני/ו עֹרְרוּ֙ אַרְמְנוֹתֶ֔י/הָ שָׂמָ֖/הּ לְ/מַפֵּלָֽה

Howle ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

GenevaHowle yee shippes of Tarshish, for your strength is destroyed.

הֵילִ֖ילוּ אֳנִיּ֣וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֑ישׁ כִּ֥י שֻׁדַּ֖ד מָעֻזְּ/כֶֽן

And it shall come to passe in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seuentie yeeres according to the dayes of one king: after the end of seuentie yeeres shall Tyre sing as an harlot.

GenevaAnd in that day shall Tyrus bee forgotten seuentie yeeres, (according to the yeeres of one King) at the ende of seuentie yeeres shall Tyrus sing as an harlot.

וְ/הָיָה֙ בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/ה֔וּא וְ/נִשְׁכַּ֤חַת צֹר֙ שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה כִּ/ימֵ֖י מֶ֣לֶךְ אֶחָ֑ד מִ/קֵּ֞ץ שִׁבְעִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה לְ/צֹ֔ר כְּ/שִׁירַ֖ת הַ/זּוֹנָֽה

Take an harpe, goe about the city thou harlot, that hast beene forgotten, make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembred.

GenevaTake an harpe and go about the citie: (thou harlot thou hast beene forgotten) make sweete melodie, sing moe songes that thou maiest be remembred.

קְחִ֥י כִנּ֛וֹר סֹ֥בִּי עִ֖יר זוֹנָ֣ה נִשְׁכָּחָ֑ה הֵיטִ֤יבִי נַגֵּן֙ הַרְבִּי שִׁ֔יר לְמַ֖עַן תִּזָּכֵֽרִי

¶ And it shall come to passe after the ende of seuentie yeeres, that the LORD will visite Tyre, and shee shall turne to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdomes of the world vpon the face of the earth.

GenevaAnd at the ende of seuentie yeres shall the Lord visite Tyrus, and shee shall returne to her wages, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdomes of the earth, that are in the world.

וְ/הָיָ֞ה מִ/קֵּ֣ץ שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֗ה יִפְקֹ֤ד יְהוָה֙ אֶת צֹ֔ר וְ/שָׁבָ֖ה לְ/אֶתְנַנָּ֑/ה וְ/זָֽנְתָ֛ה אֶת כָּל מַמְלְכ֥וֹת הָ/אָ֖רֶץ עַל פְּנֵ֥י הָ/אֲדָמָֽה

And her merchandize and her hire shall be holinesse to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid vp: for her merchandize shalbe for them that dwell before the LORD, to eate sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

GenevaYet her occupying and her wages shall bee holy vnto the Lord: it shall not be laied vp nor kept in store, but her marchandise shalbe for them that dwell before the Lord, to eate sufficiently, and to haue durable clothing.

וְ/הָיָ֨ה סַחְרָ֜/הּ וְ/אֶתְנַנָּ֗/הּ קֹ֚דֶשׁ לַֽ/יהוָ֔ה לֹ֥א יֵֽאָצֵ֖ר וְ/לֹ֣א יֵֽחָסֵ֑ן כִּ֣י לַ/יֹּשְׁבִ֞ים לִ/פְנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ יִֽהְיֶ֣ה סַחְרָ֔/הּ לֶ/אֱכֹ֥ל לְ/שָׂבְעָ֖ה וְ/לִ/מְכַסֶּ֥ה עָתִֽיק
