Chapter 19
Job 19
Then Iob answered, and sayd,
GenevaBvt Iob answered, and said,
וַ/יַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַ/יֹּאמַֽר
How long will yee vexe my soule, and breake me in pieces with words?
GenevaHowe long will yee vexe my soule, and torment me with wordes?
עַד אָ֭נָה תּוֹגְי֣וּ/ן נַפְשִׁ֑/י וּֽ/תְדַכְּאוּ/נַ֥נִי בְ/מִלִּֽים
These tenne times haue ye reproched me: you are not ashamed that you make your selues strange to me.
GenevaYe haue now ten times reproched me, and are not ashamed: ye are impudent toward mee.
זֶ֤ה עֶ֣שֶׂר פְּ֭עָמִים תַּכְלִימ֑וּ/נִי לֹֽא תֵ֝בֹ֗שׁוּ תַּהְכְּרוּ לִֽ/י
And be it indeed that I haue erred, mine errour remaineth with my selfe.
GenevaAnd though I had in deede erred, mine errour remaineth with me.
וְ/אַף אָמְנָ֥ם שָׁגִ֑יתִי אִ֝תִּ֗/י תָּלִ֥ין מְשׁוּגָתִֽ/י
If indeed yee will magnifie your selues against me, and plead against me my reproch:
GenevaBut in deede if ye will aduance your selues against me, and rebuke me for my reproche,
אִם אָ֭מְנָם עָלַ֣/י תַּגְדִּ֑ילוּ וְ/תוֹכִ֥יחוּ עָ֝לַ֗/י חֶרְפָּתִּֽ/י
Know now that God hath ouerthrowen me, and hath compassed me with his net.
GenevaKnow nowe, that God hath ouerthrowen me, and hath compassed me with his net.
דְּֽעוּ אֵ֭פוֹ כִּי אֱל֣וֹהַּ עִוְּתָ֑/נִי וּ֝/מְצוּד֗/וֹ עָלַ֥/י הִקִּֽיף
Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloude, but there is no iudgement.
GenevaBeholde, I crie out of violence, but I haue none answere: I crie, but there is no iudgement.
הֵ֤ן אֶצְעַ֣ק חָ֭מָס וְ/לֹ֣א אֵעָנֶ֑ה אֲ֝שַׁוַּ֗ע וְ/אֵ֣ין מִשְׁפָּֽט
Hee hath fenced vp my way that I cannot passe; and hee hath set darkenesse in my pathes.
GenevaHee hath hedged vp my way that I cannot passe, and he hath set darkenesse in my paths.
אָרְחִ֣/י גָ֭דַר וְ/לֹ֣א אֶעֱב֑וֹר וְ/עַ֥ל נְ֝תִיבוֹתַ֗/י חֹ֣שֶׁךְ יָשִֽׂים
Hee hath stript me of my glory, and taken the crowne from my head.
GenevaHee hath spoyled mee of mine honour, and taken the crowne away from mine head.
כְּ֭בוֹדִ/י מֵ/עָלַ֣/י הִפְשִׁ֑יט וַ֝/יָּ֗סַר עֲטֶ֣רֶת רֹאשִֽׁ/י
He hath destroyed me on euery side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he remooued like a tree.
GenevaHe hath destroyed mee on euery side and I am gone: and he hath remoued mine hope like a tree.
יִתְּצֵ֣/נִי סָ֭בִיב וָ/אֵלַ֑ךְ וַ/יַּסַּ֥ע כָּ֝/עֵ֗ץ תִּקְוָתִֽ/י
He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and hee counteth me vnto him as one of his enemies.
GenevaAnd he hath kindled his wrath against me, and counteth mee as one of his enemies.
וַ/יַּ֣חַר עָלַ֣/י אַפּ֑/וֹ וַ/יַּחְשְׁבֵ֖/נִי ל֣/וֹ כְ/צָרָֽי/ו
His troupes come together, and raise vp their way against me, and encampe round about my tabernacle.
GenevaHis armies came together, and made their way vpon me, and camped about my tabernacle.
יַ֤חַד יָ֘בֹ֤אוּ גְדוּדָ֗י/ו וַ/יָּסֹ֣לּוּ עָלַ֣/י דַּרְכָּ֑/ם וַ/יַּחֲנ֖וּ סָבִ֣יב לְ/אָהֳלִֽ/י
Hee hath put my brethren farre from me, and mine acquaintance are verely estranged from me.
GenevaHe hath remooued my brethre farre from me, and also mine acquaintance were strangers vnto me.
אַ֭חַ/י מֵ/עָלַ֣/י הִרְחִ֑יק וְ֝/יֹדְעַ֗/י אַךְ זָ֥רוּ מִמֶּֽ/נִּי
My kinsefolke haue failed, and my familiar friends haue forgotten me.
GenevaMy neighbours haue forsaken me, and my familiars haue forgotten me.
חָדְל֥וּ קְרוֹבָ֑/י וּֽ/מְיֻדָּעַ֥/י שְׁכֵחֽוּ/נִי
They that dwell in mine house, and my maides count me for a stranger: I am an aliant in their sight.
GenevaThey that dwel in mine house, and my maydes tooke me for a stranger: for I was a stranger in their sight.
גָּ֘רֵ֤י בֵיתִ֣/י וְ֭/אַמְהֹתַ/י לְ/זָ֣ר תַּחְשְׁבֻ֑/נִי נָ֝כְרִ֗י הָיִ֥יתִי בְ/עֵינֵי/הֶֽם
I called my seruant, and he gaue me no answere: I intreated him with my mouth.
GenevaI called my seruant, but he would not answere, though I prayed him with my mouth.
לְ/עַבְדִּ֣/י קָ֭רָאתִי וְ/לֹ֣א יַעֲנֶ֑ה בְּמוֹ פִ֝֗/י אֶתְחַנֶּן לֽ/וֹ
My breath is strange to my wife, though I entreated for the childrens sake of mine owne body.
GenevaMy breath was strange vnto my wife, though I prayed her for the childrens sake of mine owne body.
ר֭וּחִֽ/י זָ֣רָה לְ/אִשְׁתִּ֑/י וְ֝/חַנֹּתִ֗י לִ/בְנֵ֥י בִטְנִֽ/י
Yea, yong children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me.
GenevaThe wicked also despised mee, and when I rose, they spake against me.
גַּם עֲ֭וִילִים מָ֣אֲסוּ בִ֑/י אָ֝ק֗וּמָה וַ/יְדַבְּרוּ בִֽ/י
All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loued, are turned against me.
GenevaAll my secret friends abhorred me, and they whome I loued, are turned against me.
תִּֽ֭עֲבוּ/נִי כָּל מְתֵ֣י סוֹדִ֑/י וְ/זֶֽה אָ֝הַ֗בְתִּי נֶהְפְּכוּ בִֽ/י
My bone cleaueth to my skinne, and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skinne of my teeth.
GenevaMy bone cleaueth to my skinne and to my flesh, and I haue escaped with the skinne of my teeth.
בְּ/עוֹרִ֣/י וּ֭/בִ/בְשָׂרִ/י דָּבְקָ֣ה עַצְמִ֑/י וָ֝/אֶתְמַלְּטָ֗/ה בְּ/ע֣וֹר שִׁנָּֽ/י
Haue pity vpon me, haue pitie vpon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
GenevaHaue pitie vpon me: haue pitie vpon me, (O yee my friendes) for the hande of God hath touched me.
חָנֻּ֬/נִי חָנֻּ֣/נִי אַתֶּ֣ם רֵעָ֑/י כִּ֥י יַד אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ נָ֣גְעָה בִּֽ/י
Why doe ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
GenevaWhy do ye persecute me, as God? and are not satisfied with my flesh?
לָ֭/מָּה תִּרְדְּפֻ֣/נִי כְמוֹ אֵ֑ל וּ֝/מִ/בְּשָׂרִ֗/י לֹ֣א תִשְׂבָּֽעוּ
Oh that my wordes were now written, oh that they were printed in a booke!
GenevaOh that my wordes were nowe written! oh that they were written euen in a booke,
מִֽי יִתֵּ֣ן אֵ֭פוֹ וְ/יִכָּתְב֣וּ/ן מִלָּ֑/י מִֽי יִתֵּ֖ן בַּ/סֵּ֣פֶר וְ/יֻחָֽקוּ
That they were grauen with an iron pen and lead, in the rocke for euer.
GenevaAnd grauen with an yron pen in lead, or in stone for euer!
בְּ/עֵט בַּרְזֶ֥ל וְ/עֹפָ֑רֶת לָ֝/עַ֗ד בַּ/צּ֥וּר יֵחָצְבֽוּ/ן
For I know that my Redeemer liueth, and that he shall stand at the latter day, vpon the earth:
GenevaFor I am sure, that my Redeemer liueth, and he shall stand the last on the earth.
וַ/אֲנִ֣י יָ֭דַעְתִּי גֹּ֣אֲלִ/י חָ֑י וְ֝/אַחֲר֗וֹן עַל עָפָ֥ר יָקֽוּם
And though after my skin, wormes destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
GenevaAnd though after my skin wormes destroy this bodie, yet shall I see God in my flesh.
וְ/אַחַ֣ר ע֭וֹרִֽ/י נִקְּפוּ זֹ֑את וּ֝/מִ/בְּשָׂרִ֗/י אֶֽחֱזֶ֥ה אֱלֽוֹהַּ
Whom I shal see for my selfe, and mine eyes shall beholde, and not another, though my reines bee consumed within me.
GenevaWhome I my selfe shall see, and mine eyes shall beholde, and none other for me, though my reynes are consumed within me.
אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֲנִ֨י אֶֽחֱזֶה לִּ֗/י וְ/עֵינַ֣/י רָא֣וּ וְ/לֹא זָ֑ר כָּל֖וּ כִלְיֹתַ֣/י בְּ/חֵקִֽ/י
But ye should say, Why persecute we him? seeing the root of the matter is found in me.
GenevaBut yee sayde, Why is hee persecuted? And there was a deepe matter in me.
כִּ֣י תֹ֭אמְרוּ מַה נִּרְדָּף ל֑/וֹ וְ/שֹׁ֥רֶשׁ דָּ֝בָ֗ר נִמְצָא בִֽ/י
Bee ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that yee may know there is a iudgement.
GenevaBe ye afraide of the sworde: for the sworde will be auenged of wickednesse, that yee may knowe that there is a iudgement.
גּ֤וּרוּ לָ/כֶ֨ם מִ/פְּנֵי חֶ֗רֶב כִּֽי חֵ֭מָה עֲוֺנ֣וֹת חָ֑רֶב לְמַ֖עַן תֵּדְע֣וּ/ן ש/דין
