Job 3
After this, opened Iob his mouth, and cursed his day.

אַחֲרֵי כֵ֗ן פָּתַ֤ח אִיּוֹב֙ אֶת פִּ֔י/הוּ וַ/יְקַלֵּ֖ל אֶת יוֹמֽ/וֹ
And Iob spake, and said,

וַ/יַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַ/יֹּאמַֽר
Let the day perish, wherein I was borne, and the night in which it was said, There is a man-childe conceiued.

יֹ֣אבַד י֭וֹם אִוָּ֣לֶד בּ֑/וֹ וְ/הַ/לַּ֥יְלָה אָ֝מַ֗ר הֹ֣רָה גָֽבֶר
Let that day bee darkenesse, let not God regard it from aboue, neither let the light shine vpon it.

Let darkenes and the shadowe of death staine it, let a cloud dwell vpon it, let the blacknes of the day terrifie it.

יִגְאָלֻ֡/הוּ חֹ֣שֶׁךְ וְ֭/צַלְמָוֶת תִּשְׁכָּן עָלָ֣י/ו עֲנָנָ֑ה יְ֝בַעֲתֻ֗/הוּ כִּֽמְרִ֥ירֵי יֽוֹם
As for that night, let darkenesse seaze vpon it, let it not be ioyned vnto the dayes of the yeere, let it not come into the number of the moneths.

הַ/לַּ֥יְלָה הַ/הוּא֮ יִקָּחֵ֪/ה֫וּ אֹ֥פֶל אַל יִ֭חַדְּ בִּ/ימֵ֣י שָׁנָ֑ה בְּ/מִסְפַּ֥ר יְ֝רָחִ֗ים אַל יָבֹֽא
Loe, let that night be solitarie, let no ioyfull voice come therein.
GenevaYea, desolate be that night, and let no ioy be in it.
הִנֵּ֤ה הַ/לַּ֣יְלָה הַ֭/הוּא יְהִ֣י גַלְמ֑וּד אַל תָּבֹ֖א רְנָנָ֣ה בֽ/וֹ
Let them curse it that curse the day, who are ready to raise vp their mourning.
GenevaLet them that curse the day, (being readie to renue their mourning) curse it.
יִקְּבֻ֥/הוּ אֹרְרֵי י֑וֹם הָ֝/עֲתִידִ֗ים עֹרֵ֥ר לִוְיָתָֽן
Let the starres of the twilight thereof be darke, let it looke for light, but haue none, neither let it see the dawning of the day:

יֶחְשְׁכוּ֮ כּוֹכְבֵ֪י נִ֫שְׁפּ֥/וֹ יְקַו לְ/א֥וֹר וָ/אַ֑יִן וְ/אַל יִ֝רְאֶ֗ה בְּ/עַפְעַפֵּי שָֽׁחַר
Because it shut not vp the doores of my mothers wombe, nor hid sorrowe from mine eyes.

כִּ֤י לֹ֣א סָ֭גַר דַּלְתֵ֣י בִטְנִ֑/י וַ/יַּסְתֵּ֥ר עָ֝מָ֗ל מֵ/עֵינָֽ/י
Why died I not from the wombe? why did I not giue vp the ghost when I came out of the bellie?
GenevaWhy died I not in the birth? or why dyed I not, when I came out of the wombe?
לָ֤/מָּה לֹּ֣א מֵ/רֶ֣חֶם אָמ֑וּת מִ/בֶּ֖טֶן יָצָ֣אתִי וְ/אֶגְוָֽע
Why did the knees preuent mee? or why the breasts, that I should sucke?
GenevaWhy did the knees preuent me? and why did I sucke the breasts?
מַ֭דּוּעַ קִדְּמ֣וּ/נִי בִרְכָּ֑יִם וּ/מַה שָּׁ֝דַ֗יִם כִּ֣י אִינָֽק
For now should I haue lien still and beene quiet, I should haue slept; then had I bene at rest,

כִּֽי עַ֭תָּה שָׁכַ֣בְתִּי וְ/אֶשְׁק֑וֹט יָ֝שַׁ֗נְתִּי אָ֤ז יָנ֬וּחַֽ לִֽ/י
With Kings and counsellers of the earth, which built desolate places for themselues,

עִם מְ֭לָכִים וְ/יֹ֣עֲצֵי אָ֑רֶץ הַ/בֹּנִ֖ים חֳרָב֣וֹת לָֽ/מוֹ
Or with Princes that had golde, who filled their houses with siluer:

א֣וֹ עִם שָׂ֭רִים זָהָ֣ב לָ/הֶ֑ם הַֽ/מְמַלְאִ֖ים בָּתֵּי/הֶ֣ם כָּֽסֶף
Or as an hidden vntimely birth, I had not bene; as infants which neuer saw light.

א֤וֹ כְ/נֵ֣פֶל טָ֭מוּן לֹ֣א אֶהְיֶ֑ה כְּ֝/עֹלְלִ֗ים לֹא רָ֥אוּ אֽוֹר
There the wicked cease from troubling: and there the wearie be at rest.
GenevaThe wicked haue there ceased from their tyrannie, and there they that laboured valiantly, are at rest.
שָׁ֣ם רְ֭שָׁעִים חָ֣דְלוּ רֹ֑גֶז וְ/שָׁ֥ם יָ֝נ֗וּחוּ יְגִ֣יעֵי כֹֽחַ
There the prisoners rest together, they heare not the voice of the oppressour.

יַ֭חַד אֲסִירִ֣ים שַׁאֲנָ֑נוּ לֹ֥א שָׁ֝מְע֗וּ ק֣וֹל נֹגֵֽשׂ
The small and great are there, and the seruant is free from his master.

קָטֹ֣ן וְ֭/גָדוֹל שָׁ֣ם ה֑וּא וְ֝/עֶ֗בֶד חָפְשִׁ֥י מֵ/אֲדֹנָֽי/ו
Wherefore is light giuen to him that is in misery, and life vnto the bitter in soule?

לָ֤/מָּה יִתֵּ֣ן לְ/עָמֵ֣ל א֑וֹר וְ֝/חַיִּ֗ים לְ/מָ֣רֵי נָֽפֶשׁ
Which long for death, but it commeth not, and dig for it more then for hid treasures:
GenevaWhich long for death, and if it come not, they would euen search it more then treasures:
הַֽ/מְחַכִּ֣ים לַ/מָּ֣וֶת וְ/אֵינֶ֑/נּוּ וַֽ֝/יַּחְפְּרֻ֗/הוּ מִ/מַּטְמוֹנִֽים
Which reioice exceedingly, and are glad when they can finde the graue?
GenevaWhich ioy for gladnes, and reioyce, when they can finde the graue.
הַ/שְּׂמֵחִ֥ים אֱלֵי גִ֑יל יָ֝שִׂ֗ישׂוּ כִּ֣י יִמְצְאוּ קָֽבֶר
Why is light giuen to a man, whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in?

לְ֭/גֶבֶר אֲשֶׁר דַּרְכּ֣/וֹ נִסְתָּ֑רָה וַ/יָּ֖סֶךְ אֱל֣וֹהַּ בַּעֲדֽ/וֹ
For my sighing commeth before I eate, and my roarings are powred out like the waters.

For the thing which I greatly feared is come vpon me, and that which I was afraid of, is come vnto me.

I was not in safetie, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet: yet trouble came.
