Chapter 4
Job 4
Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, and said,

וַ֭/יַּעַן אֱלִיפַ֥ז הַֽ/תֵּימָנִ֗י וַ/יֹּאמַֽר
If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieued? But who can withhold himselfe from speaking?

הֲ/נִסָּ֬ה דָבָ֣ר אֵלֶ֣י/ךָ תִּלְאֶ֑ה וַ/עְצֹ֥ר בְּ֝/מִלִּ֗ין מִ֣י יוּכָֽל
Beholde, Thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weake hands.
GenevaBehold, thou hast taught many, and hast strengthened the wearie hands.
הִ֭נֵּה יִסַּ֣רְתָּ רַבִּ֑ים וְ/יָדַ֖יִם רָפ֣וֹת תְּחַזֵּֽק
Thy words haue vpholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.
GenevaThy wordes haue confirmed him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the weake knees.
כּ֭וֹשֵׁל יְקִימ֣וּ/ן מִלֶּ֑י/ךָ וּ/בִרְכַּ֖יִם כֹּרְע֣וֹת תְּאַמֵּֽץ
But now it is come vpon thee, and thou faintest, it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
GenevaBut now it is come vpon thee, and thou art grieued: it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
כִּ֤י עַתָּ֨ה תָּב֣וֹא אֵלֶ֣י/ךָ וַ/תֵּ֑לֶא תִּגַּ֥ע עָ֝דֶ֗י/ךָ וַ/תִּבָּהֵֽל
Is not this thy feare, thy confidence; the vprightnesse of thy wayes and thy hope?

הֲ/לֹ֣א יִ֭רְאָתְ/ךָ כִּסְלָתֶ֑/ךָ תִּ֝קְוָתְ/ךָ֗ וְ/תֹ֣ם דְּרָכֶֽי/ךָ
Remember, I pray thee, who euer perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

זְכָר נָ֗א מִ֤י ה֣וּא נָקִ֣י אָבָ֑ד וְ֝/אֵיפֹ֗ה יְשָׁרִ֥ים נִכְחָֽדוּ
Euen as I haue seene, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickednsse, reape the same.

כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר רָ֭אִיתִי חֹ֣רְשֵׁי אָ֑וֶן וְ/זֹרְעֵ֖י עָמָ֣ל יִקְצְרֻֽ/הוּ
By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

מִ/נִּשְׁמַ֣ת אֱל֣וֹהַ יֹאבֵ֑דוּ וּ/מֵ/ר֖וּחַ אַפּ֣/וֹ יִכְלֽוּ
The roaring of the Lyon, and the voice of the fierce Lyon, and the teeth of the yong Lyons are broken.
GenevaThe roaring of the Lion, and the voyce of the Lionesse, and the teeth of the Lions whelpes are broken.
שַׁאֲגַ֣ת אַ֭רְיֵה וְ/ק֣וֹל שָׁ֑חַל וְ/שִׁנֵּ֖י כְפִירִ֣ים נִתָּֽעוּ
The old Lyon perisheth for lacke of pray, and the stout Lyons whelpes are scattered abroad.

לַ֭יִשׁ אֹבֵ֣ד מִ/בְּלִי טָ֑רֶף וּ/בְנֵ֥י לָ֝בִ֗יא יִתְפָּרָֽדוּ
Nowe a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine eare receiued a litle thereof.
GenevaBut a thing was brought to me secretly, and mine eare hath receiued a litle thereof.
וְ֭/אֵלַ/י דָּבָ֣ר יְגֻנָּ֑ב וַ/תִּקַּ֥ח אָ֝זְנִ֗/י שֵׁ֣מֶץ מֶֽנְ/הֽוּ
In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deepe sleepe falleth on men:
GenevaIn the thoughtes of ye visions of the night, when sleepe falleth on men,
בִּ֭/שְׂעִפִּים מֵ/חֶזְיֹנ֣וֹת לָ֑יְלָה בִּ/נְפֹ֥ל תַּ֝רְדֵּמָ֗ה עַל אֲנָשִֽׁים
Feare came vpon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
GenevaFeare came vpon me, and dread which made all my bones to tremble.
פַּ֣חַד קְ֭רָאַ/נִי וּ/רְעָדָ֑ה וְ/רֹ֖ב עַצְמוֹתַ֣/י הִפְחִֽיד
Then a spirit passed before my face: the haire of my flesh stood vp.
GenevaAnd the wind passed before me, and made the heares of my flesh to stande vp.
וְ֭/רוּחַ עַל פָּנַ֣/י יַחֲלֹ֑ף תְּ֝סַמֵּ֗ר שַֽׂעֲרַ֥ת בְּשָׂרִֽ/י
It stood still, but I could not discerne the forme thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voyce, saying,
GenevaThen stoode one, and I knewe not his face: an image was before mine eyes, and in silence heard I a voyce, saying,
יַעֲמֹ֤ד וְֽ/לֹא אַכִּ֬יר מַרְאֵ֗/הוּ תְּ֭מוּנָה לְ/נֶ֣גֶד עֵינָ֑/י דְּמָמָ֖ה וָ/ק֣וֹל אֶשְׁמָֽע
Shall mortall man be more iust then God? shall a man bee more pure then his maker?
GenevaShall man be more iust then God? or shall a man be more pure then his maker?
הַֽ֭/אֱנוֹשׁ מֵ/אֱל֣וֹהַ יִצְדָּ֑ק אִ֥ם מֵ֝/עֹשֵׂ֗/הוּ יִטְהַר גָּֽבֶר
Behold, hee put no trust in his seruants; and his Angels hee charged with folly:
GenevaBeholde, he founde no stedfastnesse in his Seruants, and laid follie vpon his Angels.
הֵ֣ן בַּ֭/עֲבָדָי/ו לֹ֣א יַאֲמִ֑ין וּ֝/בְ/מַלְאָכָ֗י/ו יָשִׂ֥ים תָּהֳלָֽה
Howe much lesse on them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth.

אַ֤ף שֹׁכְנֵ֬י בָֽתֵּי חֹ֗מֶר אֲשֶׁר בֶּ/עָפָ֥ר יְסוֹדָ֑/ם יְ֝דַכְּא֗וּ/ם לִ/פְנֵי עָֽשׁ
They are destroyed from morning to euening: they perish for euer, without any regarding it.
GenevaThey be destroyed from the morning vnto the euening: they perish for euer, without regarde.
מִ/בֹּ֣קֶר לָ/עֶ֣רֶב יֻכַּ֑תּוּ מִ/בְּלִ֥י מֵ֝שִׂ֗ים לָ/נֶ֥צַח יֹאבֵֽדוּ
Doeth not their excellencie which is in them, goe away? they die, euen without wisedome.
GenevaDoeth not their dignitie goe away with them? do they not die, and that without wisdom?
הֲ/לֹא נִסַּ֣ע יִתְרָ֣/ם בָּ֑/ם יָ֝מ֗וּתוּ וְ/לֹ֣א בְ/חָכְמָֽה
