GenevaWherefore, Iob, I pray thee, heare my talke and hearken vnto all my wordes.
Behold, now I haue opened my mouth, my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
GenevaBeholde now, I haue opened my mouth: my tongue hath spoken in my mouth.
My words shalbe of the vprightnesse of my heart: and my lippes shall vtter knowledge clearely.
GenevaMy words are in the vprightnesse of mine heart, and my lippes shall speake pure knowledge.
The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almightie hath giuen me life.
GenevaThe Spirite of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almightie hath giuen me life.
If thou canst, answere me, set thy wordes in order before me, stand vp.
GenevaIf thou canst giue me answere, prepare thy selfe and stand before me.
Behold, I am according to thy wish in Gods stead: I also am formed out of the clay.
GenevaBeholde, I am according to thy wish in Gods stead: I am also formed of the clay.
Behold, my terrour shall not make thee afraid, neither shall my hand be heauie vpon thee.
GenevaBeholde, my terrour shall not feare thee, neither shall mine hand be heauie vpon thee.
Surely thou hast spoken in mine hearing, and I haue heard the voice of thy words, saying,
GenevaDoubtles thou hast spoken in mine eares, and I haue heard the voyce of thy wordes.
I am cleane without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquitie in me.
GenevaI am cleane, without sinne: I am innocent, and there is none iniquitie in me.
Behold, hee findeth occasions against mee, hee counteth mee for his enemie.
GenevaLo, he hath found occasions against me, and counted me for his enemie.
He putteth my feete in the stockes, he marketh all my pathes.
GenevaHe hath put my feete in the stockes, and looketh narrowly vnto all my paths.
Behold, in this thou art not iust: I will answere thee, That God is greater then man.
GenevaBehold, in this hast thou not done right: I will answere thee, that God is greater then man.
Why doest thou striue against him? for he giueth not account of any of his matters.
GenevaWhy doest thou striue against him? for he doeth not giue account of all his matters.
For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiueth it not.
GenevaFor God speaketh once or twise, and one seeth it not.
In a dreame, in a vision of the night, when deepe sleepe falleth vpon men, in slumbrings vpon the bed:
GenevaIn dreames and visions of the night, when sleepe falleth vpon men, and they sleepe vpon their beds,
Then hee openeth the eares of men, and sealeth their instruction,
GenevaThen he openeth the eares of men, euen by their corrections, which he had sealed,
That hee may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
GenevaThat he might cause man to turne away from his enterprise, and that he might hide the pride of man,
Hee keepeth backe his soule from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
GenevaAnd keepe backe his soule from the pit, and that his life should not passe by the sword.
Hee is chastened also with paine vpon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong paine.
GenevaHe is also striken with sorow vpon his bed, and the griefe of his bones is sore,
So that his life abhorreth bread, and his soule daintie meate.
GenevaSo that his life causeth him to abhorre bread, and his soule daintie meate.
His flesh is consumed away that it cannot be seene; and his bones that were not seene, sticke out.
GenevaHis flesh faileth that it can not be seene, and his bones which were not seene, clatter.
His soule draweth neere vnto the graue, and his life to the destroyers.
GenevaSo his soule draweth to the graue, and his life to the buriers.
If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew vnto man his vprightnesse:
GenevaIf there be a messenger with him, or an interpreter, one of a thousand to declare vnto man his righteousnesse,
Then hee is gracious vnto him, and sayth, Deliuer him from going downe to the pit; I haue found a ransome.
GenevaThen will he haue mercie vpon him, and will say, Deliuer him, that he go not downe into the pit: for I haue receiued a reconciliation.
His flesh shall be fresher then a childes: he shall returne to the dayes of his youth.
GenevaThen shall his flesh be as fresh as a childes, and shall returne as in the dayes of his youth.
He shall pray vnto God, and hee will be fauourable vnto him, and hee shall see his face with ioy: for hee will render vnto man his righteousnesse.
GenevaHe shall pray vnto God, and he will be fauourable vnto him, and he shall see his face with ioy: for he will render vnto man his righteousnes.
He looketh vpon men, and if any say, I haue sinned, and peruerted that which was right, and it profited mee not:
GenevaHe looketh vpon men, and if one say, I haue sinned, and peruerted righteousnesse, and it did not profite me,
Hee will deliuer his soule from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
GenevaHe will deliuer his soule from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
Loe, all these things worketh God oftentimes with man,
GenevaLo, all these things will God worke twise or thrise with a man,
To bring backe his soule from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the liuing.
GenevaThat he may turne backe his soule from the pit, to be illuminate in the light of the liuing.
Marke well, O Iob, hearken vnto me, hold thy peace, and I wil speake.
GenevaMarke well, O Iob, and heare me: keepe silence, and I will speake.
If thou hast any thing to say, answere me: speake, for I desire to iustifie thee.
GenevaIf there be matter, answere me, and speak: for I desire to iustifie thee.
If not, hearken vnto me: holde thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisedome.
GenevaIf thou hast not, heare me: holde thy tongue, and I will teach thee wisedome.
