Chapter 17
Jeremiah 17
The sinne of Iudah is written with a pen of yron, and with the point of a diamond; it is grauen vpon the table of their heart, and vpon the hornes of your altars:

חַטַּ֣את יְהוּדָ֗ה כְּתוּבָ֛ה בְּ/עֵ֥ט בַּרְזֶ֖ל בְּ/צִפֹּ֣רֶן שָׁמִ֑יר חֲרוּשָׁה֙ עַל ל֣וּחַ לִבָּ֔/ם וּ/לְ/קַרְנ֖וֹת מִזְבְּחוֹתֵי/כֶֽם
Whilest their children remember their altars and their groues by the greene trees vpon the high hilles.

כִּ/זְכֹּ֤ר בְּנֵי/הֶם֙ מִזְבְּחוֹתָ֔/ם וַ/אֲשֵׁרֵי/הֶ֖ם עַל עֵ֣ץ רַֽעֲנָ֑ן עַ֖ל גְּבָע֥וֹת הַ/גְּבֹהֽוֹת
O my mountaine, in the field I will giue thy substance, and all thy treasures to the spoile, and thy high places for sinne, throughout all thy borders.

הֲרָרִ/י֙ בַּ/שָּׂדֶ֔ה חֵילְ/ךָ֥ כָל אוֹצְרוֹתֶ֖י/ךָ לָ/בַ֣ז אֶתֵּ֑ן בָּמֹתֶ֕י/ךָ בְּ/חַטָּ֖את בְּ/כָל גְּבוּלֶֽי/ךָ
And thou, euen thy selfe shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gaue thee, and I will cause thee to serue thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for yee haue kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burne for euer.

וְ/שָׁמַטְתָּ֗ה וּ/בְ/ךָ֙ מִ/נַּחֲלָֽתְ/ךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתַ֣תִּי לָ֔/ךְ וְ/הַעֲבַדְתִּ֨י/ךָ֙ אֶת אֹ֣יְבֶ֔י/ךָ בָּ/אָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹֽא יָדָ֑עְתָּ כִּֽי אֵ֛שׁ קְדַחְתֶּ֥ם בְּ/אַפִּ֖/י עַד עוֹלָ֥ם תּוּקָֽד
¶ Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arme, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

כֹּ֣ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה אָר֤וּר הַ/גֶּ֨בֶר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִבְטַ֣ח בָּֽ/אָדָ֔ם וְ/שָׂ֥ם בָּשָׂ֖ר זְרֹע֑/וֹ וּ/מִן יְהוָ֖ה יָס֥וּר לִבּֽ/וֹ
For hee shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good commeth, but shall inhabite the parched places in the wildernesse, in a salt land and not inhabited.

וְ/הָיָה֙ כְּ/עַרְעָ֣ר בָּֽ/עֲרָבָ֔ה וְ/לֹ֥א יִרְאֶ֖ה כִּי יָב֣וֹא ט֑וֹב וְ/שָׁכַ֤ן חֲרֵרִים֙ בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֔ר אֶ֥רֶץ מְלֵחָ֖ה וְ/לֹ֥א תֵשֵֽׁב
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.
GenevaBlessed be the man, that trusteth in ye Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
בָּר֣וּךְ הַ/גֶּ֔בֶר אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִבְטַ֖ח בַּֽ/יהוָ֑ה וְ/הָיָ֥ה יְהוָ֖ה מִבְטַחֽ/וֹ
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her rootes by the riuer, and shall not see when heate commeth, but her leafe shall be greene, and shall not be carefull in the yeere of drought, neither shall cease from yeelding fruit.

וְ/הָיָ֞ה כְּ/עֵ֣ץ שָׁת֣וּל עַל מַ֗יִם וְ/עַל יוּבַל֙ יְשַׁלַּ֣ח שָֽׁרָשָׁ֔י/ו וְ/לֹ֤א ירא כִּֽי יָבֹ֣א חֹ֔ם וְ/הָיָ֥ה עָלֵ֖/הוּ רַֽעֲנָ֑ן וּ/בִ/שְׁנַ֤ת בַּצֹּ֨רֶת֙ לֹ֣א יִדְאָ֔ג וְ/לֹ֥א יָמִ֖ישׁ מֵ/עֲשׂ֥וֹת פֶּֽרִי
¶ The heart is deceitfull aboue all things, and desperately wicked, who can know it?

עָקֹ֥ב הַ/לֵּ֛ב מִ/כֹּ֖ל וְ/אָנֻ֣שׁ ה֑וּא מִ֖י יֵדָעֶֽ/נּוּ
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reines, euen to giue euery man according to his waies, and according to the fruit of his doings.

אֲנִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה חֹקֵ֥ר לֵ֖ב בֹּחֵ֣ן כְּלָי֑וֹת וְ/לָ/תֵ֤ת לְ/אִישׁ֙ כ/דרכ/ו כִּ/פְרִ֖י מַעֲלָלָֽי/ו
As the partrich sitteth on egges, and hatcheth them not: so he that getteth riches and not by right, shall leaue them in the midst of his dayes, and at his end shall be a foole.

קֹרֵ֤א דָגַר֙ וְ/לֹ֣א יָלָ֔ד עֹ֥שֶׂה עֹ֖שֶׁר וְ/לֹ֣א בְ/מִשְׁפָּ֑ט בַּ/חֲצִ֤י ימ/ו יַעַזְבֶ֔/נּוּ וּ/בְ/אַחֲרִית֖/וֹ יִהְיֶ֥ה נָבָֽל
¶ A glorious high throne from the beginning, is the place of our Sanctuarie.
GenevaAs a glorious throne exalted from the beginning, so is the place of our Sanctuarie.
כִּסֵּ֣א כָב֔וֹד מָר֖וֹם מֵֽ/רִאשׁ֑וֹן מְק֖וֹם מִקְדָּשֵֽׁ/נוּ
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall bee written in the earth, because they haue forsaken the LORD the fountaine of liuing waters.

מִקְוֵ֤ה יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יְהוָ֔ה כָּל עֹזְבֶ֖י/ךָ יֵבֹ֑שׁוּ יסור/י בָּ/אָ֣רֶץ יִכָּתֵ֔בוּ כִּ֥י עָזְב֛וּ מְק֥וֹר מַֽיִם חַיִּ֖ים אֶת יְהוָֽה
Heale me, O LORD, and I shall be healed: saue me, and I shalbe saued: for thou art my praise.
GenevaHeale me, O Lord, and I shall bee whole: saue me, and I shall bee saued: for thou art my prayse.
רְפָאֵ֤/נִי יְהוָה֙ וְ/אֵ֣רָפֵ֔א הוֹשִׁיעֵ֖/נִי וְ/אִוָּשֵׁ֑עָה כִּ֥י תְהִלָּתִ֖/י אָֽתָּה
¶ Behold, they say vnto mee, Where is the word of the LORD ? let it come now.
GenevaBehold, they say vnto me, Where is the word of the Lord? let it come nowe.
הִנֵּה הֵ֕מָּה אֹמְרִ֖ים אֵלָ֑/י אַיֵּ֥ה דְבַר יְהוָ֖ה יָ֥בוֹא נָֽא
As for me, I haue not hastened from being a pastour to follow thee, neither haue I desired the wofull day, thou knowest: that which came out of my lips, was right before thee.

וַ/אֲנִ֞י לֹא אַ֣צְתִּי מֵ/רֹעֶ֣ה אַחֲרֶ֗י/ךָ וְ/י֥וֹם אָנ֛וּשׁ לֹ֥א הִתְאַוֵּ֖יתִי אַתָּ֣ה יָדָ֑עְתָּ מוֹצָ֣א שְׂפָתַ֔/י נֹ֥כַח פָּנֶ֖י/ךָ הָיָֽה
Be not a terrour vnto me, thou art my hope in the day of euill.

אַל תִּֽהְיֵה לִ֖/י לִ/מְחִתָּ֑ה מַֽחֲסִ/י אַ֖תָּה בְּ/י֥וֹם רָעָֽה
Let them bee confounded that persecute me, but let not me be confounded: let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed: bring vpon them the day of euill, and destroy them with double destruction.

יֵבֹ֤שׁוּ רֹדְפַ/י֙ וְ/אַל אֵבֹ֣שָׁה אָ֔נִי יֵחַ֣תּוּ הֵ֔מָּה וְ/אַל אֵחַ֖תָּה אָ֑נִי הָבִ֤יא עֲלֵי/הֶם֙ י֣וֹם רָעָ֔ה וּ/מִשְׁנֶ֥ה שִׁבָּר֖וֹן שָׁבְרֵֽ/ם
¶ Thus sayd the LORD vnto me, Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Iudah come in, and by the which they goe out, and in all the gates of Ierusalem.
GenevaThus hath the Lord said vnto me, Goe and stande in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the Kings of Iudah come in, and by the which they goe out, and in all ye gates of Ierusalem,
כֹּה אָמַ֨ר יְהוָ֜ה אֵלַ֗/י הָלֹ֤ךְ וְ/עָֽמַדְתָּ֙ בְּ/שַׁ֣עַר בְּנֵֽי עם אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָבֹ֤אוּ ב/וֹ֙ מַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֔ה וַ/אֲשֶׁ֖ר יֵ֣צְאוּ ב֑/וֹ וּ/בְ/כֹ֖ל שַׁעֲרֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
And say vnto them, Heare ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Iudah, and all Iudah, and all the inhabitants of Ierusalem, that enter in by these gates.

וְ/אָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲ֠לֵי/הֶם שִׁמְע֨וּ דְבַר יְהוָ֜ה מַלְכֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ וְ/כָל יְהוּדָ֔ה וְ/כֹ֖ל יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם הַ/בָּאִ֖ים בַּ/שְּׁעָרִ֥ים הָ/אֵֽלֶּה
Thus saith the LORD, Take heed to your selues, and beare no burden on the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Ierusalem.
GenevaThus sayth the Lord, Take heede to your soules, and beare no burden in the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Ierusalem.
כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הִשָּׁמְר֖וּ בְּ/נַפְשֽׁוֹתֵי/כֶ֑ם וְ/אַל תִּשְׂא֤וּ מַשָּׂא֙ בְּ/י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֔ת וַ/הֲבֵאתֶ֖ם בְּ/שַׁעֲרֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם
Neither carie forth a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, neither doe ye any worke, but hallowe ye the Sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers.
GenevaNeither cary foorth burdens out of your houses in the Sabbath day: neither doe yee any worke, but sanctifie the Sabbath, as I commanded your fathers.
וְ/לֹא תוֹצִ֨יאוּ מַשָּׂ֤א מִ/בָּֽתֵּי/כֶם֙ בְּ/י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֔ת וְ/כָל מְלָאכָ֖ה לֹ֣א תַֽעֲשׂ֑וּ וְ/קִדַּשְׁתֶּם֙ אֶת י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֔ת כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֖יתִי אֶת אֲבוֹתֵי/כֶֽם
But they obeyed not, neither inclined their eare, but made their necke stiffe, that they might not heare nor receiue instruction.

וְ/לֹ֣א שָֽׁמְע֔וּ וְ/לֹ֥א הִטּ֖וּ אֶת אָזְנָ֑/ם וַ/יַּקְשׁוּ֙ אֶת עָרְפָּ֔/ם לְ/בִלְתִּ֣י שומע וּ/לְ/בִלְתִּ֖י קַ֥חַת מוּסָֽר
And it shall come to passe, if yee diligently hearken vnto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this citie on the Sabbath day, but hallow the Sabbath day, to doe no worke therein:
GenevaNeuerthelesse if ye will heare me, sayth the Lord, and beare no burden through the gates of the citie in the Sabbath day, but sanctifie ye Sabbath day, so that ye do no worke therein,
וְ֠/הָיָה אִם שָׁמֹ֨עַ תִּשְׁמְע֤וּ/ן אֵלַ/י֙ נְאֻם יְהוָ֔ה לְ/בִלְתִּ֣י הָבִ֣יא מַשָּׂ֗א בְּ/שַׁעֲרֵ֛י הָ/עִ֥יר הַ/זֹּ֖את בְּ/י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֑ת וּ/לְ/קַדֵּשׁ֙ אֶת י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֔ת לְ/בִלְתִּ֥י עֲשֽׂוֹת ב/ה כָּל מְלָאכָֽה
Then shall there enter into the gates of this citie kings and princes sitting vpon the throne of Dauid, riding in charets and on horses, they and their princes, the men of Iudah and the inhabitants of Ierusalem: and this citie shall remaine for euer.
GenevaThen shall the Kings and the princes enter in at the gates of this citie, and shall sit vpon the throne of Dauid, and shall ride vpon charets, and vpon horses, both they and their princes, the men of Iudah, and the inhabitants of Ierusalem: and this citie shall remaine for euer.
וּ/בָ֣אוּ בְ/שַׁעֲרֵ֣י הָ/עִ֣יר הַ/זֹּ֡את מְלָכִ֣ים וְ/שָׂרִ֡ים יֹשְׁבִים֩ עַל כִּסֵּ֨א דָוִ֜ד רֹכְבִ֣ים בָּ/רֶ֣כֶב וּ/בַ/סּוּסִ֗ים הֵ֚מָּה וְ/שָׂ֣רֵי/הֶ֔ם אִ֥ישׁ יְהוּדָ֖ה וְ/יֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְ/יָשְׁבָ֥ה הָֽ/עִיר הַ/זֹּ֖את לְ/עוֹלָֽם
And they shall come from the cities of Iudah, and from the places about Ierusalem, and from the lande of Beniamin, and from the plaine and from the mountaines, and from the South, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meate offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise vnto the house of the LORD.

וּ/בָ֣אוּ מֵ/עָרֵֽי יְ֠הוּדָה וּ/מִ/סְּבִיב֨וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם וּ/מֵ/אֶ֣רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֗ן וּ/מִן הַ/שְּׁפֵלָ֤ה וּ/מִן הָ/הָר֙ וּ/מִן הַ/נֶּ֔גֶב מְבִאִ֛ים עוֹלָ֥ה וְ/זֶ֖בַח וּ/מִנְחָ֣ה וּ/לְבוֹנָ֑ה וּ/מְבִאֵ֥י תוֹדָ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה
But if you will not hearken vnto me to hallow the Sabbath day, and not to beare a burden, euen entring in at the gates of Ierusalem on the Sabbath day: then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall deuoure the palaces of Ierusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

וְ/אִם לֹ֨א תִשְׁמְע֜וּ אֵלַ֗/י לְ/קַדֵּשׁ֙ אֶת י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֔ת וּ/לְ/בִלְתִּ֣י שְׂאֵ֣ת מַשָּׂ֗א וּ/בֹ֛א בְּ/שַׁעֲרֵ֥י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בְּ/י֣וֹם הַ/שַּׁבָּ֑ת וְ/הִצַּ֧תִּי אֵ֣שׁ בִּ/שְׁעָרֶ֗י/הָ וְ/אָֽכְלָ֛ה אַרְמְנ֥וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וְ/לֹ֥א תִכְבֶּֽה
