Proverbs 4

Heare, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know vnderstanding.

GenevaHeare, O ye children, the instruction of a father, and giue eare to learne vnderstanding.

שִׁמְע֣וּ בָ֭נִים מ֣וּסַר אָ֑ב וְ֝/הַקְשִׁ֗יבוּ לָ/דַ֥עַת בִּינָֽה

For I giue you good doctrine: forsake you not my law.

GenevaFor I doe giue you a good doctrine: therefore forsake yee not my lawe.

כִּ֤י לֶ֣קַח ט֭וֹב נָתַ֣תִּי לָ/כֶ֑ם תּֽ֝וֹרָתִ֗/י אַֽל תַּעֲזֹֽבוּ

For I was my fathers sonne, tender and onely beloued in the sight of my mother.

GenevaFor I was my fathers sonne, tender and deare in the sight of my mother,

כִּי בֵ֭ן הָיִ֣יתִי לְ/אָבִ֑/י רַ֥ךְ וְ֝/יָחִ֗יד לִ/פְנֵ֥י אִמִּֽ/י

He taught me also, and said vnto me, Let thine heart reteine my wordes: keepe my commandements, and liue.

GenevaWhen he taught me, and sayde vnto me, Let thine heart holde fast my woordes: keepe my commandements, and thou shalt liue.

וַ/יֹּרֵ֗/נִי וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר לִ֗/י יִֽתְמָךְ דְּבָרַ֥/י לִבֶּ֑/ךָ שְׁמֹ֖ר מִצְוֺתַ֣/י וֶֽ/חְיֵֽה

Get wisedome, get vnderstanding: forget it not, neither decline from the wordes of my mouth.

קְנֵ֣ה חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה בִינָ֑ה אַל תִּשְׁכַּ֥ח וְ/אַל תֵּ֝֗ט מֵֽ/אִמְרֵי פִֽ/י

Forsake her not, and she shall preserue thee: loue her, and she shall keepe thee.

אַל תַּעַזְבֶ֥/הָ וְ/תִשְׁמְרֶ֑/ךָּ אֱהָבֶ֥/הָ וְ/תִצְּרֶֽ/ךָּ

Wisedome is the principall thing, therefore get wisedome: and with all thy getting, get vnderstanding.

GenevaWisedome is the beginning: get wisedome therefore: and aboue all thy possession get vnderstanding.

רֵאשִׁ֣ית חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה חָכְמָ֑ה וּ/בְ/כָל קִ֝נְיָנְ/ךָ֗ קְנֵ֣ה בִינָֽה

Exalt her, and shee shall promote thee: shee shall bring thee to honour, when thou doest imbrace her.

GenevaExalt her, and she shall exalt thee: she shall bring thee to honour, if thou embrace her.

סַלְסְלֶ֥/הָ וּֽ/תְרוֹמְמֶ֑/ךָּ תְּ֝כַבֵּ֗דְ/ךָ כִּ֣י תְחַבְּקֶֽ/נָּה

She shall giue to thine head an ornament of grace, a crowne of glory shall she deliuer to thee.

GenevaShe shall giue a comely ornamet vnto thine head, yea, she shall giue thee a crowne of glorie.

תִּתֵּ֣ן לְ֭/רֹאשְׁ/ךָ לִוְיַת חֵ֑ן עֲטֶ֖רֶת תִּפְאֶ֣רֶת תְּמַגְּנֶֽ/ךָּ

Heare, O my sonne, and receiue my sayings: and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.

GenevaHeare, my sonne, and receiue my wordes, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe many.

שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ֭נִ/י וְ/קַ֣ח אֲמָרָ֑/י וְ/יִרְבּ֥וּ לְ֝/ךָ֗ שְׁנ֣וֹת חַיִּֽים

I haue taught thee in the way of wisedome: I haue lead thee in right pathes.

GenevaI haue taught thee in ye way of wisedom, and led thee in the pathes of righteousnesse.

בְּ/דֶ֣רֶךְ חָ֭כְמָה הֹרֵתִ֑י/ךָ הִ֝דְרַכְתִּ֗י/ךָ בְּ/מַעְגְּלֵי יֹֽשֶׁר

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitned, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

GenevaWhe thou goest, thy gate shall not be strait, and when thou runnest, thou shalt not fall.

בְּֽ֭/לֶכְתְּ/ךָ לֹא יֵצַ֣ר צַעֲדֶ֑/ךָ וְ/אִם תָּ֝ר֗וּץ לֹ֣א תִכָּשֵֽׁל

Take fast hold of instruction, let her not goe; keepe her, for she is thy life.

GenevaTake holde of instruction, and leaue not: keepe her, for shee is thy life.

הַחֲזֵ֣ק בַּ/מּוּסָ֣ר אַל תֶּ֑רֶף נִ֝צְּרֶ֗/הָ כִּי הִ֥יא חַיֶּֽי/ךָ

¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and goe not in the way of euill men.

GenevaEnter not into the way of the wicked, and walke not in the way of euill men.

בְּ/אֹ֣רַח רְ֭שָׁעִים אַל תָּבֹ֑א וְ/אַל תְּ֝אַשֵּׁ֗ר בְּ/דֶ֣רֶךְ רָעִֽים

Auoid it, passe not by it, turne from it, and passe away.

GenevaAuoide it, and goe not by it: turne from it, and passe by.

פְּרָעֵ֥/הוּ אַל תַּעֲבָר בּ֑/וֹ שְׂטֵ֖ה מֵ/עָלָ֣י/ו וַ/עֲבֽוֹר

For they sleepe not except they haue done mischiefe: and their sleepe is taken away vnlesse they cause some to fall.

GenevaFor they can not sleepe, except they haue done euill, and their sleepe departeth except they cause some to fall.

כִּ֤י לֹ֣א יִֽ֭שְׁנוּ אִם לֹ֣א יָרֵ֑עוּ וְֽ/נִגְזְלָ֥ה שְׁ֝נָתָ֗/ם אִם לֹ֥א יכשולו

For they eate the bread of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.

GenevaFor they eate the breade of wickednesse, and drinke the wine of violence.

כִּ֣י לָ֭חֲמוּ לֶ֣חֶם רֶ֑שַׁע וְ/יֵ֖ין חֲמָסִ֣ים יִשְׁתּֽוּ

But the path of the iust is as the shining light that shineth more and more vnto the perfect day.

GenevaBut the way of the righteous shineth as the light, that shineth more and more vnto the perfite day.

וְ/אֹ֣רַח צַ֭דִּיקִים כְּ/א֣וֹר נֹ֑גַהּ הוֹלֵ֥ךְ וָ֝/א֗וֹר עַד נְכ֥וֹן הַ/יּֽוֹם

The way of the wicked is as darknes: they know not at what they stumble.

GenevaThe way of the wicked is as the darkenes: they knowe not wherein they shall fall.

דֶּ֣רֶךְ רְ֭שָׁעִים כָּֽ/אֲפֵלָ֑ה לֹ֥א יָ֝דְע֗וּ בַּ/מֶּ֥ה יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ

¶ My sonne, attend to my words, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.

GenevaMy sonne, hearken vnto my wordes, incline thine eare vnto my sayings.

בְּ֭נִ/י לִ/דְבָרַ֣/י הַקְשִׁ֑יבָ/ה לַ֝/אֲמָרַ֗/י הַט אָזְנֶֽ/ךָ

Let them not depart from thine eyes: keepe them in the midst of thine heart.

GenevaLet them not depart from thine eyes, but keepe them in the middes of thine heart.

אַל יַלִּ֥יזוּ מֵ/עֵינֶ֑י/ךָ שָׁ֝מְרֵ֗/ם בְּ/ת֣וֹךְ לְבָבֶֽ/ךָ

For they are life vnto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

כִּֽי חַיִּ֣ים הֵ֭ם לְ/מֹצְאֵי/הֶ֑ם וּֽ/לְ/כָל בְּשָׂר֥/וֹ מַרְפֵּֽא

¶ Keepe thy heart with all diligence: for out of it are the issues of life.

Put away from thee a froward mouth, and peruerse lips put farre from thee.

GenevaPut away from thee a froward mouth, and put wicked lippes farre from thee.

הָסֵ֣ר מִ֭מְּ/ךָ עִקְּשׁ֣וּת פֶּ֑ה וּ/לְז֥וּת שְׂ֝פָתַ֗יִם הַרְחֵ֥ק מִמֶּֽ/ךָּ

Let thine eyes looke right on, and let thine eye lids looke straight before thee.

GenevaLet thine eyes beholde the right, and let thine eyelids direct thy way before thee.

עֵ֭ינֶי/ךָ לְ/נֹ֣כַח יַבִּ֑יטוּ וְ֝/עַפְעַפֶּ֗י/ךָ יַיְשִׁ֥רוּ נֶגְדֶּֽ/ךָ

Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy wayes be established.

GenevaPonder the path of thy feete, and let all thy waies be ordred aright.

פַּ֭לֵּס מַעְגַּ֣ל רַגְלֶ֑/ךָ וְֽ/כָל דְּרָכֶ֥י/ךָ יִכֹּֽנוּ

Turne not to the right hande nor to the left: remoue thy foot frō euil.

אַֽל תֵּט יָמִ֥ין וּ/שְׂמֹ֑אול הָסֵ֖ר רַגְלְ/ךָ֣ מֵ/רָֽע
