Proverbs 5
My sonne, attend vnto my wisedome, and bowe thine eare to my vnderstanding.
GenevaMy sonne, hearken vnto my wisedome, and incline thine eare vnto my knowledge.
בְּ֭נִ/י לְ/חָכְמָתִ֣/י הַקְשִׁ֑יבָ/ה לִ֝/תְבוּנָתִ֗/י הַט אָזְנֶֽ/ךָ
That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keepe knowledge.
GenevaThat thou maiest regarde counsell, and thy lippes obserue knowledge.
לִ/שְׁמֹ֥ר מְזִמּ֑וֹת וְ֝/דַ֗עַת שְׂפָתֶ֥י/ךָ יִנְצֹֽרוּ
¶ For the lips of a strange woman drop as an hony combe, and her mouth is smoother then oyle.
GenevaFor the lippes of a strange woman drop as an honie combe, and her mouth is more soft then oyle.
כִּ֤י נֹ֣פֶת תִּ֭טֹּפְנָה שִׂפְתֵ֣י זָרָ֑ה וְ/חָלָ֖ק מִ/שֶּׁ֣מֶן חִכָּֽ/הּ
But her end is bitter as wormewood, sharpe as a two edged sword.
GenevaBut the end of her is bitter as wormewood, and sharpe as a two edged sworde.
וְֽ֭/אַחֲרִיתָ/הּ מָרָ֣ה כַֽ/לַּעֲנָ֑ה חַ֝דָּ֗ה כְּ/חֶ֣רֶב פִּיּֽוֹת
Her feete goe downe to death: her steps take hold on hell.
GenevaHer feete goe downe to death, and her steps take holde on hell.
רַ֭גְלֶי/הָ יֹרְד֣וֹת מָ֑וֶת שְׁ֝א֗וֹל צְעָדֶ֥י/הָ יִתְמֹֽכוּ
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her wayes are moueable, that thou canst not know them.
GenevaShe weigheth not the way of life: her paths are moueable: thou canst not knowe them.
אֹ֣רַח חַ֭יִּים פֶּן תְּפַלֵּ֑ס נָע֥וּ מַ֝עְגְּלֹתֶ֗י/הָ לֹ֣א תֵדָֽע
Heare me now therefore, O yee children: & depart not from the words of my mouth.
GenevaHeare yee me nowe therefore, O children, and depart not from the wordes of my mouth.
וְ/עַתָּ֣ה בָ֭נִים שִׁמְעוּ לִ֑/י וְ/אַל תָּ֝ס֗וּרוּ מֵ/אִמְרֵי פִֽ/י
Remoue thy way farre from her, and come not nie the doore of her house:
GenevaKeepe thy way farre from her, and come not neere the doore of her house,
הַרְחֵ֣ק מֵ/עָלֶ֣י/הָ דַרְכֶּ֑/ךָ וְ/אַל תִּ֝קְרַ֗ב אֶל פֶּ֥תַח בֵּיתָֽ/הּ
Lest thou giue thine honour vnto others, and thy yeeres vnto the cruell:
GenevaLeast thou giue thine honor vnto others, and thy yeeres to the cruell:
פֶּן תִּתֵּ֣ן לַ/אֲחֵרִ֣ים הוֹדֶ֑/ךָ וּ֝/שְׁנֹתֶ֗י/ךָ לְ/אַכְזָרִֽי
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labors be in the house of a stranger,
GenevaLeast the stranger should be silled with thy strength, and thy labours bee in the house of a stranger,
פֶּֽן יִשְׂבְּע֣וּ זָרִ֣ים כֹּחֶ֑/ךָ וַ֝/עֲצָבֶ֗י/ךָ בְּ/בֵ֣ית נָכְרִֽי
And thou mourne at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
GenevaAnd thou mourne at thine end, (when thou hast consumed thy flesh and thy bodie)
וְ/נָהַמְתָּ֥ בְ/אַחֲרִיתֶ֑/ךָ בִּ/כְל֥וֹת בְּ֝שָׂרְ/ךָ֗ וּ/שְׁאֵרֶֽ/ךָ
And say, How haue I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproofe?
GenevaAnd say, How haue I hated instruction, and mine heart despised correction!
וְֽ/אָמַרְתָּ֗ אֵ֭יךְ שָׂנֵ֣אתִי מוּסָ֑ר וְ֝/תוֹכַ֗חַת נָאַ֥ץ לִבִּֽ/י
And haue not obeyed the voyce of my teachers, nor inclined mine eare to them that instructed me?
GenevaAnd haue not obeied the voyce of them that taught mee, nor enclined mine eare to them that instructed me!
וְֽ/לֹא שָׁ֭מַעְתִּי בְּ/ק֣וֹל מוֹרָ֑/י וְ֝/לִֽ/מְלַמְּדַ֗/י לֹא הִטִּ֥יתִי אָזְנִֽ/י
I was almost in all euill, in the midst of the congregation & assembly.
GenevaI was almost brought into all euil in ye mids of the Congregation and assemblie.
כִּ֭/מְעַט הָיִ֣יתִי בְ/כָל רָ֑ע בְּ/ת֖וֹךְ קָהָ֣ל וְ/עֵדָֽה
¶ Drinke waters out of thine owne cisterne, and running waters out of thine owne well.
GenevaDrinke the water of thy cisterne, and of the riuers out of the middes of thine owne well.
שְׁתֵה מַ֥יִם מִ/בּוֹרֶ֑/ךָ וְ֝/נֹזְלִ֗ים מִ/תּ֥וֹךְ בְּאֵרֶֽ/ךָ
Let thy fountaines bee dispersed abroad, and riuers of waters in the streets.
GenevaLet thy fountaines flow foorth, and the riuers of waters in the streetes.
יָפ֣וּצוּ מַעְיְנֹתֶ֣י/ךָ ח֑וּצָ/ה בָּ֝/רְחֹב֗וֹת פַּלְגֵי מָֽיִם
Let them be onely thine owne, and not strangers with thee.
GenevaBut let them bee thine, euen thine onely, and not the strangers with thee.
יִֽהְיוּ לְ/ךָ֥ לְ/בַדֶּ֑/ךָ וְ/אֵ֖ין לְ/זָרִ֣ים אִתָּֽ/ךְ
Let thy fountaine be blessed: and reioyce with the wife of thy youth.
GenevaLet thy fountaine be blessed, and reioyce with the wife of thy youth.
יְהִֽי מְקוֹרְ/ךָ֥ בָר֑וּךְ וּ֝/שְׂמַ֗ח מֵ/אֵ֥שֶׁת נְעוּרֶֽ/ךָ
Let her bee as the louing Hinde and pleasant Roe, let her breasts satisfie thee at all times, and be thou rauisht alwayes with her loue.
GenevaLet her be as the louing hinde and pleasant roe: let her brests satisfie thee at all times, and delite in her loue continually.
אַיֶּ֥לֶת אֲהָבִ֗ים וְֽ/יַעֲלַ֫ת חֵ֥ן דַּ֭דֶּי/הָ יְרַוֻּ֣/ךָ בְ/כָל עֵ֑ת בְּ֝/אַהֲבָתָ֗/הּ תִּשְׁגֶּ֥ה תָמִֽיד
And why wilt thou, my sonne, be rauisht with a strange woman, and imbrace the bosome of a stranger?
GenevaFor why shouldest thou delite, my sonne, in a strange woman, or embrace the bosome of a stranger?
וְ/לָ֤/מָּה תִשְׁגֶּ֣ה בְנִ֣/י בְ/זָרָ֑ה וּ֝/תְחַבֵּ֗ק חֵ֣ק נָכְרִיָּֽה
For the wayes of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
GenevaFor the waies of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth all his pathes.
כִּ֤י נֹ֨כַח עֵינֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה דַּרְכֵי אִ֑ישׁ וְֽ/כָל מַעְגְּלֹתָ֥י/ו מְפַלֵּֽס
¶ His owne iniquities shall take the wicked himselfe, and he shall be holden with the coards of his sinnes.

עַֽווֹנוֹתָ֗י/ו יִלְכְּדֻ/נ֥וֹ אֶת הָ/רָשָׁ֑ע וּ/בְ/חַבְלֵ֥י חַ֝טָּאת֗/וֹ יִתָּמֵֽךְ
He shall die without instruction, and in the greatnesse of his folly he shal goe astray.
GenevaHee shall die for fault of instruction, and shall goe astray through his great follie.
ה֗וּא יָ֭מוּת בְּ/אֵ֣ין מוּסָ֑ר וּ/בְ/רֹ֖ב אִוַּלְתּ֣/וֹ יִשְׁגֶּֽה
