Proverbs 9
Wisedome hath builded her house: she hath hewen out her seuen pillars.
GenevaWisedome hath built her house, and hewen out her seuen pillars.
חָ֭כְמוֹת בָּנְתָ֣ה בֵיתָ֑/הּ חָצְבָ֖ה עַמּוּדֶ֣י/הָ שִׁבְעָֽה
She hath killed her beastes; she hath mingled her wine: she hath also furnished her table.
GenevaShe hath killed her vitailes, drawen her wine, and prepared her table.
טָבְחָ֣ה טִ֭בְחָ/הּ מָסְכָ֣ה יֵינָ֑/הּ אַ֝֗ף עָֽרְכָ֥ה שֻׁלְחָנָֽ/הּ
She hath sent forth her maidens; she cryeth vpon the highest places of the citie.
GenevaShe hath sent forth her maydens and cryeth vpon the highest places of the citie, saying,
שָֽׁלְחָ֣ה נַעֲרֹתֶ֣י/הָ תִקְרָ֑א עַל גַּ֝פֵּ֗י מְרֹ֣מֵי קָֽרֶת
Who so is simple, let him turne in hither: as for him that wanteth vnderstanding, she sayth to him:
GenevaWho so is simple, let him come hither, and to him that is destitute of wisedome, she sayth,
מִי פֶ֭תִי יָסֻ֣ר הֵ֑נָּה חֲסַר לֵ֝֗ב אָ֣מְרָה לּֽ/וֹ
Come, eate of my bread, and drinke of the wine, which I haue mingled.
GenevaCome, and eate of my meate, and drinke of the wine that I haue drawen.
לְ֭כוּ לַחֲמ֣וּ בְֽ/לַחֲמִ֑/י וּ֝/שְׁת֗וּ בְּ/יַ֣יִן מָסָֽכְתִּי
Forsake the foolish, and liue; and goe in the way of vnderstanding.
GenevaForsake your way, ye foolish, and ye shall liue: and walke in the way of vnderstanding.
עִזְב֣וּ פְתָאיִ֣ם וִֽ/חְי֑וּ וְ֝/אִשְׁר֗וּ בְּ/דֶ֣רֶךְ בִּינָֽה
He that reproueth a scorner, getteth to himselfe shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man, getteth himselfe a blot.
GenevaHe that reproueth a scorner, purchaseth to himselfe shame: and he that rebuketh the wicked, getteth himselfe a blot.
יֹ֤סֵ֨ר לֵ֗ץ לֹקֵ֣חַֽ ל֣/וֹ קָל֑וֹן וּ/מוֹכִ֖יחַ לְ/רָשָׁ֣ע מוּמֽ/וֹ
Reproue not a scorner, lest hee hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and hee will loue thee.
GenevaRebuke not a scorner, least he hate thee: but rebuke a wise man, and he will loue thee.
אַל תּ֣וֹכַח לֵ֭ץ פֶּן יִשְׂנָאֶ֑/ךָּ הוֹכַ֥ח לְ֝/חָכָ֗ם וְ/יֶאֱהָבֶֽ/ךָּ
Giue instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a iust man, and he will increase in learning.
GenevaGiue admonition to the wise, and he will be the wiser: teache a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
תֵּ֣ן לְ֭/חָכָם וְ/יֶחְכַּם ע֑וֹד הוֹדַ֥ע לְ֝/צַדִּ֗יק וְ/י֣וֹסֶף לֶֽקַח
The feare of the LORD is the beginning of wisedome: and the knowledge of the holy is vnderstanding.
GenevaThe beginning of wisedome is the feare of the Lord, and the knowledge of holy things, is vnderstanding.
תְּחִלַּ֣ת חָ֭כְמָה יִרְאַ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה וְ/דַ֖עַת קְדֹשִׁ֣ים בִּינָֽה
For by me thy dayes shall be multiplied: and the yeeres of thy life shalbe increased.
GenevaFor thy dayes shalbe multiplied by me, and the yeeres of thy life shalbe augmented.
כִּי בִ֭/י יִרְבּ֣וּ יָמֶ֑י/ךָ וְ/יוֹסִ֥יפוּ לְּ֝/ךָ֗ שְׁנ֣וֹת חַיִּֽים
If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thy selfe: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt beare it.
GenevaIf thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thy selfe, and if thou be a scorner, thou alone shalt suffer.
אִם חָ֭כַמְתָּ חָכַ֣מְתָּ לָּ֑/ךְ וְ֝/לַ֗צְתָּ לְֽ/בַדְּ/ךָ֥ תִשָּֽׂא
¶ A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, & knoweth nothing.
GenevaA foolish woman is troublesome: she is ignorant, and knoweth nothing.
אֵ֣שֶׁת כְּ֭סִילוּת הֹֽמִיָּ֑ה פְּ֝תַיּ֗וּת וּ/בַל יָ֥דְעָה מָּֽה
For she sitteth at the doore of her house on a seate, in the high places of the Citie:
GenevaBut she sitteth at the doore of her house on a seate in the hie places of the citie,
וְֽ֭/יָשְׁבָה לְ/פֶ֣תַח בֵּיתָ֑/הּ עַל כִּ֝סֵּ֗א מְרֹ֣מֵי קָֽרֶת
To call passengers who go right on their wayes:
GenevaTo call them that passe by the way, that go right on their way, saying,
לִ/קְרֹ֥א לְ/עֹֽבְרֵי דָ֑רֶךְ הַֽ֝/מְיַשְּׁרִ֗ים אֹֽרְחוֹתָֽ/ם
Who so is simple, let him turne in hither: and as for him that wanteth vnderstanding, she saith to him;
GenevaWho so is simple, let him come hither, and to him that is destitute of wisedome, shee sayth also,
מִי פֶ֭תִי יָסֻ֣ר הֵ֑נָּה וַ/חֲסַר לֵ֝֗ב וְ/אָ֣מְרָה לּֽ/וֹ
Stollen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
GenevaStollen waters are sweete, and hid bread is pleasant.
מַֽיִם גְּנוּבִ֥ים יִמְתָּ֑קוּ וְ/לֶ֖חֶם סְתָרִ֣ים יִנְעָֽם
But hee knoweth not that the dead are there, and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
GenevaBut he knoweth not, that ye dead are there, and that her ghestes are in the depth of hell.
וְֽ/לֹא יָ֭דַע כִּֽי רְפָאִ֣ים שָׁ֑ם בְּ/עִמְקֵ֖י שְׁא֣וֹל קְרֻאֶֽי/הָ
