To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said,

I will loue thee, O LORD, my strength.
GenevaTo him that excelleth. A Psalme of Dauid the seruant of the Lord, which spake unto the Lord the wordes of this song (in the day that the Lord delivered him for the hande of all this enemies, and form the and of saul) and sayd, I will loue thee dearely, O Lord my strength.
לַ/מְנַצֵּ֤חַ לְ/עֶ֥בֶד יְהוָ֗ה לְ/דָ֫וִ֥ד אֲשֶׁ֤ר דִּבֶּ֨ר לַ/יהוָ֗ה אֶת דִּ֭בְרֵי הַ/שִּׁירָ֣ה הַ/זֹּ֑את בְּ/י֤וֹם הִֽצִּיל יְהוָ֘ה אוֹת֥/וֹ מִ/כַּ֥ף כָּל אֹ֝יְבָ֗י/ו וּ/מִ/יַּ֥ד שָׁאֽוּל
The LORD is my rocke, and my fortresse, and my deliuerer: my God, my strength in whome I will trust, my buckler, and the horne of my saluation, and my high tower.
GenevaThe Lord is my rocke, and my fortresse, and he that deliuereth me, my God and my strength: in him will I trust, my shield, the horne also of my saluation, and my refuge.
וַ/יֹּאמַ֡ר אֶרְחָמְ/ךָ֖ יְהוָ֣ה חִזְקִֽ/י
I will call vpon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saued from mine enemies.

The sorrowes of death compassed me, and the floods of vngodly men made me afraid.
GenevaThe sorowes of death compassed me, and the floods of wickednes made me afraide.
מְ֭הֻלָּל אֶקְרָ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּ/מִן אֹ֝יְבַ֗/י אִוָּשֵֽׁעַ
The sorrowes of hell compassed me about: the snares of death preuented me.
GenevaThe sorowes of the graue haue compassed me about: the snares of death ouertooke me.
אֲפָפ֥וּ/נִי חֶבְלֵי מָ֑וֶת וְֽ/נַחֲלֵ֖י בְלִיַּ֣עַל יְבַֽעֲתֽוּ/נִי
In my distresse I called vpon the LORD, and cryed vnto my God: hee heard my voyce out of his temple, and my crie came before him, euen into his eares.

חֶבְלֵ֣י שְׁא֣וֹל סְבָב֑וּ/נִי קִ֝דְּמ֗וּ/נִי מ֣וֹקְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת
Then the earth shooke and trembled; the foundations also of the hilles mooued and were shaken, because hee was wroth.
GenevaThen the earth trembled, and quaked: the foundations also of the mountaines mooued and shooke, because he was angrie.
בַּ/צַּר לִ֤/י אֶֽקְרָ֣א יְהוָה֮ וְ/אֶל אֱלֹהַ֪/י אֲשַׁ֫וֵּ֥עַ יִשְׁמַ֣ע מֵ/הֵיכָל֣/וֹ קוֹלִ֑/י וְ֝/שַׁוְעָתִ֗/י לְ/פָנָ֤י/ו תָּב֬וֹא בְ/אָזְנָֽי/ו
There went vp a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth deuoured, coales were kindled by it.
GenevaSmoke went out at his nostrels, and a consuming fire out of his mouth: coales were kindled thereat.
וַ/תִּגְעַ֬שׁ וַ/תִּרְעַ֨שׁ הָ/אָ֗רֶץ וּ/מוֹסְדֵ֣י הָרִ֣ים יִרְגָּ֑זוּ וַ֝/יִּתְגָּֽעֲשׁ֗וּ כִּי חָ֥רָה לֽ/וֹ
He bowed the heauens also, and came downe: and darkenesse was vnder his feet.

עָ֘לָ֤ה עָשָׁ֨ן בְּ/אַפּ֗/וֹ וְ/אֵשׁ מִ/פִּ֥י/ו תֹּאכֵ֑ל גֶּ֝חָלִ֗ים בָּעֲר֥וּ מִמֶּֽ/נּוּ
And he rode vpon a Cherub, and did flie: yea he did flie vpon the wings of the wind.

וַ/יֵּ֣ט שָׁ֭מַיִם וַ/יֵּרַ֑ד וַ֝/עֲרָפֶ֗ל תַּ֣חַת רַגְלָֽי/ו
He made darkenes his secret place: his pauilion round about him, were darke waters, and thicke cloudes of the skies.

At the brightnes that was before him his thicke clouds passed, haile stones and coales of fire.

The LORD also thundered in the heauens, and the highest gaue his voyce; hailestones and coales of fire.

Yea, he sent out his arrowes, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

Then the chanels of waters were seene, and the foundations of the world were discouered: at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח חִ֭צָּי/ו וַ/יְפִיצֵ֑/ם וּ/בְרָקִ֥ים רָ֝ב וַ/יְהֻמֵּֽ/ם
He sent from aboue, he tooke me, he drew me out of many waters.
GenevaHe hath sent downe from aboue and taken mee: hee hath drawen mee out of many waters.
וַ/יֵּ֤רָא֨וּ אֲפִ֥יקֵי מַ֗יִם וַֽ/יִּגָּלוּ֮ מוֹסְד֪וֹת תֵּ֫בֵ֥ל מִ/גַּעֲרָ֣תְ/ךָ֣ יְהוָ֑ה מִ֝/נִּשְׁמַ֗ת ר֣וּחַ אַפֶּֽ/ךָ
He deliuered me from my strong enemie, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

יִשְׁלַ֣ח מִ֭/מָּרוֹם יִקָּחֵ֑/נִי יַֽ֝מְשֵׁ֗/נִי מִ/מַּ֥יִם רַבִּֽים
They preuented me in the day of my calamitie: but the LORD was my stay.

יַצִּילֵ֗/נִי מֵ/אֹיְבִ֥/י עָ֑ז וּ֝/מִ/שֹּׂנְאַ֗/י כִּֽי אָמְצ֥וּ מִמֶּֽ/נִּי
He brought me forth also into a large place: he deliuered me, because he delighted in me.

יְקַדְּמ֥וּ/נִי בְ/יוֹם אֵידִ֑/י וַֽ/יְהִי יְהוָ֖ה לְ/מִשְׁעָ֣ן לִֽ/י
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousnesse, according to the cleannesse of my hands hath hee recompensed me.
GenevaThe Lord rewarded me according to my righteousnes: according to the purenes of mine hands he recompensed me:
וַ/יּוֹצִיאֵ֥/נִי לַ/מֶּרְחָ֑ב יְ֝חַלְּצֵ֗/נִי כִּ֘י חָ֥פֵֽץ בִּֽ/י
For I haue kept the wayes of the LORD, and haue not wickedly departed from my God.
GenevaBecause I kept the wayes of the Lord, and did not wickedly against my God.
יִגְמְלֵ֣/נִי יְהוָ֣ה כְּ/צִדְקִ֑/י כְּ/בֹ֥ר יָ֝דַ֗/י יָשִׁ֥יב לִֽ/י
For all his iudgements were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.
GenevaFor all his Lawes were before mee, and I did not cast away his commandements from mee.
כִּֽי שָׁ֭מַרְתִּי דַּרְכֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְ/לֹֽא רָ֝שַׁ֗עְתִּי מֵ/אֱלֹהָֽ/י
I was also vpright before him: and I kept my selfe from mine iniquity.
GenevaI was vpright also with him, and haue kept me from my wickednes.
כִּ֣י כָל מִשְׁפָּטָ֣י/ו לְ/נֶגְדִּ֑/י וְ֝/חֻקֹּתָ֗י/ו לֹא אָסִ֥יר מֶֽנִּ/י
Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousnesse, according to the cleannesse of my hands in his eye-sight.

וָ/אֱהִ֣י תָמִ֣ים עִמּ֑/וֹ וָ֝/אֶשְׁתַּמֵּ֗ר מֵ/עֲוֺנִֽ/י
With the mercifull thou wilt shew thy selfe mercifull, with an vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.
GenevaWith the godly thou wilt shewe thy selfe godly: with the vpright man thou wilt shew thy selfe vpright.
וַ/יָּֽשֶׁב יְהוָ֣ה לִ֣/י כְ/צִדְקִ֑/י כְּ/בֹ֥ר יָ֝דַ֗/י לְ/נֶ֣גֶד עֵינָֽי/ו
With the pure thou wilt shewe thy selfe pure, and with the froward thou wilt shew thy selfe froward.

עִם חָסִ֥יד תִּתְחַסָּ֑ד עִם גְּבַ֥ר תָּ֝מִ֗ים תִּתַּמָּֽם
For thou wilt saue the afflicted people: but wilt bring downe high lookes.
GenevaThus thou wilt saue the poore people, and wilt cast downe the proude lookes.
עִם נָבָ֥ר תִּתְבָּרָ֑ר וְ/עִם עִ֝קֵּ֗שׁ תִּתְפַּתָּֽל
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkenesse.
GenevaSurely thou wilt light my candle: the Lord my God wil lighten my darkenes.
כִּֽי אַ֭תָּה עַם עָנִ֣י תוֹשִׁ֑יעַ וְ/עֵינַ֖יִם רָמ֣וֹת תַּשְׁפִּֽיל
For by thee I haue run through a troupe? and by my God haue I leaped ouer a wall.
GenevaFor by thee I haue broken through an hoste, and by my God I haue leaped ouer a wall.
כִּֽי אַ֭תָּה תָּאִ֣יר נֵרִ֑/י יְהוָ֥ה אֱ֝לֹהַ֗/י יַגִּ֥יהַּ חָשְׁכִּֽ/י
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
GenevaThe way of God is vncorrupt: the worde of the Lord is tried in the fire: he is a shield to all that trust in him.
כִּֽי בְ֭/ךָ אָרֻ֣ץ גְּד֑וּד וּ֝/בֵֽ/אלֹהַ֗/י אֲדַלֶּג שֽׁוּר
For who is God saue the LORD? or who is a rocke saue our God?
GenevaFor who is God besides the Lord? and who is mightie saue our God?
הָ/אֵל֮ תָּמִ֪ים דַּ֫רְכּ֥/וֹ אִמְרַֽת יְהוָ֥ה צְרוּפָ֑ה מָגֵ֥ן ה֝֗וּא לְ/כֹ֤ל הַ/חֹסִ֬ים בּֽ/וֹ
It is God that girdeth mee with strength, and maketh my way perfect.
GenevaGod girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way vpright.
כִּ֤י מִ֣י אֱ֭לוֹהַּ מִ/בַּלְעֲדֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וּ/מִ֥י צ֝֗וּר זוּלָתִ֥/י אֱלֹהֵֽי/נוּ
Hee maketh my feete like hindes feete, and setteth me vpon my high places.

הָ֭/אֵל הַ/מְאַזְּרֵ֣/נִי חָ֑יִל וַ/יִּתֵּ֖ן תָּמִ֣ים דַּרְכִּֽ/י
He teacheth my hands to warre, so that a bow of steele is broken by mine armes.
GenevaHe teacheth mine hands to fight: so that a bowe of brasse is broken with mine armes.
מְשַׁוֶּ֣ה רַ֭גְלַ/י כָּ/אַיָּל֑וֹת וְ/עַ֥ל בָּ֝מֹתַ֗/י יַעֲמִידֵֽ/נִי
Thou hast also giuen me the shield of thy saluation: and thy right hand hath holden me vp, and thy gentlenesse hath made me great.
GenevaThou hast also giuen me the shield of thy saluation, and thy right hand hath stayed me, and thy louing kindenes hath caused me to increase.
מְלַמֵּ֣ד יָ֭דַ/י לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֑ה וְֽ/נִחֲתָ֥ה קֶֽשֶׁת נְ֝חוּשָׁ֗ה זְרוֹעֹתָֽ/י
Thou hast enlarged my steppes vnder me; that my feete did not slippe.
GenevaThou hast enlarged my steps vnder mee, and mine heeles haue not slid.
וַ/תִּתֶּן לִ/י֮ מָגֵ֪ן יִ֫שְׁעֶ֥/ךָ וִֽ/ימִינְ/ךָ֥ תִסְעָדֵ֑/נִי וְֽ/עַנְוַתְ/ךָ֥ תַרְבֵּֽ/נִי
I haue pursued mine enemies, and ouertaken them: neither did I turne againe till they were consumed.

תַּרְחִ֣יב צַעֲדִ֣/י תַחְתָּ֑/י וְ/לֹ֥א מָ֝עֲד֗וּ קַרְסֻלָּֽ/י
I haue wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen vnder my feete.

אֶרְדּ֣וֹף א֭וֹיְבַ/י וְ/אַשִּׂיגֵ֑/ם וְ/לֹֽא אָ֝שׁוּב עַד כַּלּוֹתָֽ/ם

Thou hast also giuen mee the neckes of mine enemies: that I might destroy them that hate me.

וַ/תְּאַזְּרֵ֣/נִי חַ֭יִל לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֑ה תַּכְרִ֖יעַ קָמַ֣/י תַּחְתָּֽ/י
They cried, but there was none to saue them: euen vnto the LORD, but he answered them not.

וְֽ/אֹיְבַ֗/י נָתַ֣תָּה לִּ֣/י עֹ֑רֶף וּ֝/מְשַׂנְאַ֗/י אַצְמִיתֵֽ/ם
Then did I beate them small as the dust before the winde: I did cast them out, as the dirt in the streetes.

יְשַׁוְּע֥וּ וְ/אֵין מוֹשִׁ֑יעַ עַל יְ֝הוָ֗ה וְ/לֹ֣א עָנָֽ/ם
Thou hast deliuered me from the striuings of the people, and thou hast made mee the head of the heathen: a people whom I haue not knowen, shall serue me.

וְֽ/אֶשְׁחָקֵ֗/ם כְּ/עָפָ֥ר עַל פְּנֵי ר֑וּחַ כְּ/טִ֖יט חוּצ֣וֹת אֲרִיקֵֽ/ם
As soone as they heare of mee, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselues vnto me.

תְּפַלְּטֵ/נִי֮ מֵ/רִ֪יבֵ֫י עָ֥ם תְּ֭שִׂימֵ/נִי לְ/רֹ֣אשׁ גּוֹיִ֑ם עַ֖ם לֹא יָדַ֣עְתִּי יַֽעַבְדֽוּ/נִי
The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.
GenevaStrangers shall shrinke away, and feare in their priuie chambers.
לְ/שֵׁ֣מַֽע אֹ֭זֶן יִשָּׁ֣מְעוּ לִ֑/י בְּנֵֽי נֵ֝כָ֗ר יְכַחֲשׁוּ לִֽ/י
The LORD liueth, and blessed be my rocke: and let the God of my saluation be exalted.
GenevaLet the Lord liue, and blessed be my strength, and the God of my saluation be exalted.
בְּנֵי נֵכָ֥ר יִבֹּ֑לוּ וְ֝/יַחְרְג֗וּ מִֽ/מִּסְגְּרֽוֹתֵי/הֶֽם
It is God that auengeth mee, and subdueth the people vnder me.
GenevaIt is God that giueth me power to auenge me, and subdueth the people vnder me.
חַי יְ֭הוָה וּ/בָר֣וּךְ צוּרִ֑/י וְ֝/יָר֗וּם אֱלוֹהֵ֥י יִשְׁעִֽ/י
He deliuereth me from mine enemies: yea thou liftest mee vp aboue those that rise vp against me; thou hast deliuered me from the violent man.
GenevaO my deliuerer from mine enemies, euen thou hast set mee vp from them, that rose against me: thou hast deliuered mee from the cruell man.
הָ/אֵ֗ל הַ/נּוֹתֵ֣ן נְקָמ֣וֹת לִ֑/י וַ/יַּדְבֵּ֖ר עַמִּ֣ים תַּחְתָּֽ/י
Therfore will I giue thankes vnto thee, (O LORD) among the heathen: and sing prayses vnto thy name.
GenevaTherefore I will prayse thee, O Lord, among the nations, and wil sing vnto thy Name.
מְפַלְּטִ֗/י מֵ/אֹ֫יְבָ֥/י אַ֣ף מִן קָ֭מַ/י תְּרוֹמְמֵ֑/נִי מֵ/אִ֥ישׁ חָ֝מָ֗ס תַּצִּילֵֽ/נִי
Great deliuerance giueth he to his King: and sheweth mercy to his Annointed, to Dauid, and to his seede for euermore.
