Wee haue heard with our eares, O God, our fathers haue told vs, what worke thou didst in their dayes, in the times of old.
GenevaTo him that excelleth. A Psalme to give instruction, committed to the sonnes of Korah. We haue heard with our eares, O God: our fathers haue tolde vs the workes, that thou hast done in their dayes, in the olde time:
לַ/מְנַצֵּ֬חַ לִ/בְנֵי קֹ֬רַח מַשְׂכִּֽיל
How thou didst driue out the heathen with thy hand, & plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out.
GenevaHowe thou hast driuen out the heathen with thine hand, and planted them: how thou hast destroyed the people, and caused them to grow.
אֱלֹהִ֤ים בְּ/אָזְנֵ֬י/נוּ שָׁמַ֗עְנוּ אֲבוֹתֵ֥י/נוּ סִפְּרוּ לָ֑/נוּ פֹּ֥עַל פָּעַ֥לְתָּ בִֽ֝/ימֵי/הֶ֗ם בִּ֣/ימֵי קֶֽדֶם
For they got not the land in possession by their owne sword, neither did their owne arme saue them: but thy right hand, and thine arme, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a fauour vnto them.
GenevaFor they inherited not the lande by their owne sworde, neither did their owne arme saue them: but thy right hand, and thine arme and the light of thy countenance, because thou didest fauour them.
אַתָּ֤ה יָדְ/ךָ֡ גּוֹיִ֣ם ה֭וֹרַשְׁתָּ וַ/תִּטָּעֵ֑/ם תָּרַ֥ע לְ֝אֻמִּ֗ים וַֽ/תְּשַׁלְּחֵֽ/ם
Thou art my King, O God: command deliuerances for Iacob.
GenevaThou art my King, O God: send helpe vnto Iaakob.
כִּ֤י לֹ֪א בְ/חַרְבָּ֡/ם יָ֥רְשׁוּ אָ֗רֶץ וּ/זְרוֹעָ/ם֮ לֹא הוֹשִׁ֪יעָ֫ה לָּ֥/מוֹ כִּֽי יְמִֽינְ/ךָ֣ וּ֭/זְרוֹעֲ/ךָ וְ/א֥וֹר פָּנֶ֗י/ךָ כִּ֣י רְצִיתָֽ/ם
Through thee will wee push downe our enemies: through thy Name will wee tread them vnder that rise vp against vs.
GenevaThrough thee haue we thrust backe our aduersaries: by thy Name haue we troden downe them that rose vp against vs.
אַתָּה ה֣וּא מַלְכִּ֣/י אֱלֹהִ֑ים צַ֝וֵּ֗ה יְשׁוּע֥וֹת יַעֲקֹֽב
For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword saue me.
GenevaFor I do not trust in my bowe, neither can my sworde saue me.
בְּ֭/ךָ צָרֵ֣י/נוּ נְנַגֵּ֑חַ בְּ֝/שִׁמְ/ךָ֗ נָב֥וּס קָמֵֽי/נוּ
But thou hast saued vs from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated vs.
GenevaBut thou hast saued vs from our aduersaries, and hast put them to confusion that hate vs.
כִּ֤י לֹ֣א בְ/קַשְׁתִּ֣/י אֶבְטָ֑ח וְ֝/חַרְבִּ֗/י לֹ֣א תוֹשִׁיעֵֽ/נִי
In God we boast all the day long: and praise thy Name for euer. Selah.
GenevaTherefore will wee praise God continually, and will confesse thy Name for euer. Selah.
כִּ֣י ה֭וֹשַׁעְתָּ/נוּ מִ/צָּרֵ֑י/נוּ וּ/מְשַׂנְאֵ֥י/נוּ הֱבִישֽׁוֹתָ
But thou hast cast off and put vs to shame; and goest not forth with our armies.
GenevaBut now thou art farre off, and puttest vs to confusion, and goest not forth with our armies.
בֵּֽ֭/אלֹהִים הִלַּלְ֣נוּ כָל הַ/יּ֑וֹם וְ/שִׁמְ/ךָ֓ לְ/עוֹלָ֖ם נוֹדֶ֣ה סֶֽלָה
Thou makest vs to turne backe from the enemie: and they which hate vs, spoile for themselues.
GenevaThou makest vs to turne backe from the aduersary, and they, which hate vs, spoile for theselues.
אַף זָ֭נַחְתָּ וַ/תַּכְלִימֵ֑/נוּ וְ/לֹא תֵ֝צֵ֗א בְּ/צִבְאוֹתֵֽי/נוּ
Thou hast giuen vs like sheepe appointed for meate: and hast scattered vs among the heathen.
GenevaThou giuest vs as sheepe to bee eaten, and doest scatter vs among the nations.
תְּשִׁיבֵ֣/נוּ אָ֭חוֹר מִנִּי צָ֑ר וּ֝/מְשַׂנְאֵ֗י/נוּ שָׁ֣סוּ לָֽ/מוֹ
Thou sellest thy people for nought, and doest not increase thy wealth by their price.
GenevaThou sellest thy people without gaine, and doest not increase their price.
תִּ֭תְּנֵ/נוּ כְּ/צֹ֣אן מַאֲכָ֑ל וּ֝/בַ/גּוֹיִ֗ם זֵרִיתָֽ/נוּ
Thou makest vs a reproch to our neighbours, a scorne and a derision to them that are round about vs.
GenevaThou makest vs a reproche to our neighbours, a iest and a laughing stocke to them that are round about vs.
תִּמְכֹּֽר עַמְּ/ךָ֥ בְ/לֹא ה֑וֹן וְ/לֹ֥א רִ֝בִּ֗יתָ בִּ/מְחִירֵי/הֶֽם
Thou makest vs a by-word among the heathen: a shaking of the head among the people.
GenevaThou makest vs a prouerbe among the nations, and a nodding of the head among the people.
תְּשִׂימֵ֣/נוּ חֶ֭רְפָּה לִ/שְׁכֵנֵ֑י/נוּ לַ֥עַג וָ֝/קֶ֗לֶס לִ/סְבִיבוֹתֵֽי/נוּ
My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me.
GenevaMy confusion is dayly before me, and the shame of my face hath couered me,
תְּשִׂימֵ֣/נוּ מָ֭שָׁל בַּ/גּוֹיִ֑ם מְנֽוֹד רֹ֝֗אשׁ בַּל אֻמִּֽים
For the voice of him that reproacheth, and blasphemeth: by reason of the enemie and auenger.
GenevaFor the voyce of the slaunderer and rebuker, for the enemie and auenger.
כָּל הַ֭/יּוֹם כְּלִמָּתִ֣/י נֶגְדִּ֑/י וּ/בֹ֖שֶׁת פָּנַ֣/י כִּסָּֽתְ/נִי
All this is come vpon vs; yet haue wee not forgotten thee, neither haue we dealt falsly in thy couenant.
GenevaAll this is come vpon vs, yet doe wee not forget thee, neither deale wee falsly concerning thy couenant.
מִ֭/קּוֹל מְחָרֵ֣ף וּ/מְגַדֵּ֑ף מִ/פְּנֵ֥י א֝וֹיֵ֗ב וּ/מִתְנַקֵּֽם
Our heart is not turned backe: neither haue our steps declined from thy way,
GenevaOur heart is not turned backe: neither our steps gone out of thy paths,
כָּל זֹ֣את בָּ֭אַתְ/נוּ וְ/לֹ֣א שְׁכַחֲנ֑וּ/ךָ וְ/לֹֽא שִׁ֝קַּ֗רְנוּ בִּ/בְרִיתֶֽ/ךָ
Though thou hast sore broken vs in the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadow of death.
GenevaAlbeit thou hast smitten vs downe into the place of dragons, and couered vs with the shadow of death.
לֹא נָס֣וֹג אָח֣וֹר לִבֵּ֑/נוּ וַ/תֵּ֥ט אֲשֻׁרֵ֗י/נוּ מִנִּ֥י אָרְחֶֽ/ךָ
If wee haue forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange God:
GenevaIf wee haue forgotten the Name of our God, and holden vp our hands to a strange god,
כִּ֣י דִ֭כִּיתָ/נוּ בִּ/מְק֣וֹם תַּנִּ֑ים וַ/תְּכַ֖ס עָלֵ֣י/נוּ בְ/צַלְמָֽוֶת
Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.
GenevaShall not God searche this out? for hee knoweth the secrets of the heart.
אִם שָׁ֭כַחְנוּ שֵׁ֣ם אֱלֹהֵ֑י/נוּ וַ/נִּפְרֹ֥שׂ כַּ֝פֵּ֗י/נוּ לְ/אֵ֣ל זָֽר
Yea for thy sake are wee killed all the day long: wee are counted as sheepe for the slaughter.
GenevaSurely for thy sake are we slaine continually, and are counted as sheepe for the slaughter.
הֲ/לֹ֣א אֱ֭לֹהִים יַֽחֲקָר זֹ֑את כִּֽי ה֥וּא יֹ֝דֵ֗עַ תַּעֲלֻמ֥וֹת לֵֽב
Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast vs not off for euer.
GenevaVp, why sleepest thou, O Lord? awake, be not farre off for euer.
כִּֽי עָ֭לֶי/ךָ הֹרַ֣גְנוּ כָל הַ/יּ֑וֹם נֶ֝חְשַׁ֗בְנוּ כְּ/צֹ֣אן טִבְחָֽה
Wherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our affliction, and our oppression?
GenevaWherefore hidest thou thy face? and forgettest our miserie and our affliction?
ע֤וּרָ/ה לָ֖/מָּה תִישַׁ֥ן אֲדֹנָ֑/י הָ֝קִ֗יצָ/ה אַל תִּזְנַ֥ח לָ/נֶֽצַח
For our soule is bowed downe to the dust; our belly cleaueth vnto the earth.
GenevaFor our soule is beaten downe vnto the dust: our belly cleaueth vnto the ground.
לָֽ/מָּה פָנֶ֥י/ךָ תַסְתִּ֑יר תִּשְׁכַּ֖ח עָנְיֵ֣/נוּ וְֽ/לַחֲצֵֽ/נוּ
Arise for our helpe, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.
GenevaRise vp for our succour, and redeeme vs for thy mercies sake.
כִּ֤י שָׁ֣חָה לֶ/עָפָ֣ר נַפְשֵׁ֑/נוּ דָּבְקָ֖ה לָ/אָ֣רֶץ בִּטְנֵֽ/נוּ
