Psalms 49

Heare this, all yee people, giue eare all yee inhabitants of the world:

GenevaTo him that excelleth. A Psalme committed to the sonnes of Korah. Heare this, all ye people: giue eare, all ye that dwell in the world,

לַ/מְנַצֵּ֬חַ לִ/בְנֵי קֹ֬רַח מִזְמֽוֹר

Both low, and high, rich and poore together.

GenevaAs well lowe as hie, both rich and poore.

שִׁמְעוּ זֹ֭את כָּל הָֽ/עַמִּ֑ים הַ֝אֲזִ֗ינוּ כָּל יֹ֥שְׁבֵי חָֽלֶד

My mouth shall speake of wisedome: and the meditation of my heart shalbe of vnderstanding.

GenevaMy mouth shall speake of wisdome, and the meditation of mine heart is of knowledge.

גַּם בְּנֵ֣י אָ֭דָם גַּם בְּנֵי אִ֑ישׁ יַ֝֗חַד עָשִׁ֥יר וְ/אֶבְיֽוֹן

I will incline mine eare to a parable; I will open my darke saying vpon the harpe.

GenevaI will incline mine eare to a parable, and vtter my graue matter vpon the harpe.

פִּ֭/י יְדַבֵּ֣ר חָכְמ֑וֹת וְ/הָג֖וּת לִבִּ֣/י תְבוּנֽוֹת

Wherefore should I feare in the daies of euill, when the iniquitie of my heeles shall compasse me about?

GenevaWherefore should I feare in the euil dayes, when iniquitie shall compasse me about, as at mine heeles?

אַטֶּ֣ה לְ/מָשָׁ֣ל אָזְנִ֑/י אֶפְתַּ֥ח בְּ֝/כִנּ֗וֹר חִידָתִֽ/י

They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselues in the multitude of their riches:

GenevaThey trust in their goods, and boast them selues in the multitude of their riches.

לָ֣/מָּה אִ֭ירָא בִּ֣/ימֵי רָ֑ע עֲוֺ֖ן עֲקֵבַ֣/י יְסוּבֵּֽ/נִי

None of them can by any meanes redeeme his brother, nor giue to God a ransome for him:

GenevaYet a man can by no meanes redeeme his brother: he can not giue his raunsome to God,

הַ/בֹּטְחִ֥ים עַל חֵילָ֑/ם וּ/בְ/רֹ֥ב עָ֝שְׁרָ֗/ם יִתְהַלָּֽלוּ

(For the redemption of their soule is precious, and it ceaseth for euer.)

Geneva(So precious is the redemption of their soules, and the continuance for euer)

אָ֗ח לֹא פָדֹ֣ה יִפְדֶּ֣ה אִ֑ישׁ לֹא יִתֵּ֖ן לֵ/אלֹהִ֣ים כָּפְרֽ/וֹ

That he should still liue for euer, and not see corruption.

GenevaThat he may liue still for euer, and not see the graue.

וְ֭/יֵקַר פִּדְי֥וֹן נַפְשָׁ֗/ם וְ/חָדַ֥ל לְ/עוֹלָֽם

For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the foole, and the brutish person perish, and leaue their wealth to others.

GenevaFor he seeth that wise men die, and also that the ignorant and foolish perish, and leaue their riches for others.

וִֽ/יחִי ע֥וֹד לָ/נֶ֑צַח לֹ֖א יִרְאֶ֣ה הַ/שָּֽׁחַת

Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for euer, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their owne names.

GenevaYet they thinke, their houses, and their habitations shall continue for euer, euen from generation to generation, and call their lands by their names.

כִּ֤י יִרְאֶ֨ה חֲכָ֘מִ֤ים יָמ֗וּתוּ יַ֤חַד כְּסִ֣יל וָ/בַ֣עַר יֹאבֵ֑דוּ וְ/עָזְב֖וּ לַ/אֲחֵרִ֣ים חֵילָֽ/ם

Neuerthelesse man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beastes that perish.

GenevaBut man shall not continue in honour: he is like the beastes that die.

קִרְבָּ֤/ם בָּתֵּ֨י/מוֹ לְֽ/עוֹלָ֗ם מִ֭שְׁכְּנֹתָ/ם לְ/דֹ֣ר וָ/דֹ֑ר קָֽרְא֥וּ בִ֝/שְׁמוֹתָ֗/ם עֲלֵ֣י אֲדָמֽוֹת

This their way is their follie; yet their posteritie approue their sayings. Selah.

GenevaThis their way vttereth their foolishnes: yet their posteritie delite in their talke. Selah.

וְ/אָדָ֣ם בִּ֭/יקָר בַּל יָלִ֑ין נִמְשַׁ֖ל כַּ/בְּהֵמ֣וֹת נִדְמֽוּ

Like sheepe they are layd in the graue, death shall feede on them; and the vpright shall haue dominion ouer them in the morning, and their beauty shall consume in the graue, from their dwelling.

GenevaLike sheepe they lie in graue: death deuoureth them, and the righteous shall haue domination ouer them in the morning: for their beautie shall consume, when they shall goe from their house to graue.

זֶ֣ה דַ֭רְכָּ/ם כֵּ֣סֶל לָ֑/מוֹ וְ/אַחֲרֵי/הֶ֓ם בְּ/פִי/הֶ֖ם יִרְצ֣וּ סֶֽלָה

But God will redeeme my soule from the power of the graue; for he shall receiue me. Selah.

GenevaBut God shall deliuer my soule from the power of the graue: for he will receiue me. Selah.

כַּ/צֹּ֤אן לִֽ/שְׁא֣וֹל שַׁתּוּ֮ מָ֤וֶת יִ֫רְעֵ֥/ם וַ/יִּרְדּ֘וּ בָ֤/ם יְשָׁרִ֨ים לַ/בֹּ֗קֶר ו/ציר/ם לְ/בַלּ֥וֹת שְׁא֗וֹל מִ/זְּבֻ֥ל לֽ/וֹ

Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased.

GenevaBe not thou afrayd when one is made rich, and when the glory of his house is increased.

אַךְ אֱלֹהִ֗ים יִפְדֶּ֣ה נַ֭פְשִׁ/י מִֽ/יַּד שְׁא֑וֹל כִּ֖י יִקָּחֵ֣/נִי סֶֽלָה

For when he dieth, he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.

GenevaFor he shall take nothing away when he dieth, neither shall his pompe descende after him.

אַל תִּ֭ירָא כִּֽי יַעֲשִׁ֣ר אִ֑ישׁ כִּֽי יִ֝רְבֶּה כְּב֣וֹד בֵּיתֽ/וֹ

Though whiles he liued, he blessed his soule: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thy selfe.

GenevaFor while he liued, he reioyced himselfe: and men will prayse thee, when thou makest much of thy selfe.

כִּ֤י לֹ֣א בְ֭/מוֹת/וֹ יִקַּ֣ח הַ/כֹּ֑ל לֹא יֵרֵ֖ד אַחֲרָ֣י/ו כְּבוֹדֽ/וֹ

Hee shall goe to the generation of his fathers, they shall neuer see light.

GenevaHe shall enter into the generation of his fathers, and they shall not liue for euer.

כִּֽי נַ֭פְשׁ/וֹ בְּ/חַיָּ֣י/ו יְבָרֵ֑ךְ וְ֝/יוֹדֻ֗/ךָ כִּי תֵיטִ֥יב לָֽ/ךְ

Man that is in honour and vnderstandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

GenevaMan is in honour, and vnderstandeth not: he is like to beasts that perish.

תָּ֭בוֹא עַד דּ֣וֹר אֲבוֹתָ֑י/ו עַד נֵ֝֗צַח לֹ֣א יִרְאוּ אֽוֹר
