Chapter 10
Romans 10
Brethren, my hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saued.
GenevaBrethren, mine hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saued.
For I beare them record, that they haue a zeale of God, but not according to knowledge.
GenevaFor I beare them record, that they haue the zeale of God, but not according to knowledge.
For they being ignorant of Gods righteousnesse, and going about to establish their owne righteousnesse, haue not submitted themselues vnto the righteousnesse of God.
GenevaFor they, being ignorant of the righteousnes of God, and going about to stablish their owne righteousnes, haue not submitted themselues to the righteousnes of God.
For Christ is the end of the Law for righteousnes to euery one that beleeueth.
GenevaFor Christ is the end of the Law for righteousnes vnto euery one that beleeueth.
For Moses describeth the righteousnesse which is of the Law, that the man which doeth those things shall liue by them.
GenevaFor Moses thus describeth the righteousnes which is of the Lawe, That the man which doeth these things, shall liue thereby.
But the righteousnesse which is of faith, speaketh on this wise: Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heauen? That is to bring Christ down from aboue.
GenevaBut the righteousnes which is of faith, speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heauen? (that is to bring Christ from aboue)
Or, Who shall descend into the deepe? That is to bring vp Christ againe from the dead.
GenevaOr, Who shall descend into the deepe? (that is to bring Christ againe from the dead)
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, euen in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that is the word of faith which we preach,
GenevaBut what sayth it? The worde is neere thee, euen in thy mouth, and in thine heart. This is the worde of faith which we preach.
That if thou shalt confesse with thy mouth the Lord Iesus, and shalt beleeue in thine heart, that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saued.
GenevaFor if thou shalt confesse with thy mouth the Lord Iesus, and shalt beleeue in thine heart, that God raised him vp from the dead, thou shalt be saued:
For with the heart man beleeueth vnto righteousnesse, and with the mouth confession is made vnto saluation.
GenevaFor with the heart man beleeueth vnto righteousnes, and with the mouth man confesseth to saluation.
For the Scripture saith, Whosoeuer beleeueth on him, shall not bee ashamed.
GenevaFor the Scripture saith, Whosoeuer beleeueth in him, shall not be ashamed.
For there is no difference betweene the Iew and the Greeke: for the same Lord ouer all, is rich vnto all, that call vpon him.
GenevaFor there is no difference betweene the Iewe and the Grecian: for he that is Lord ouer all, is rich vnto all, that call on him.
For whosoeuer shall call vpon the Name of the Lord, shall be saued.
GenevaFor whosoeuer shall call vpon the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued.
How then shall they call on him in whom they haue not beleeued? and how shal they beleeue in him, of whom they haue not heard? and how shall they heare without a Preacher?
GenevaBut how shall they call on him, in whome they haue not beleeued? and how shall they beleeue in him, of whom they haue not heard? and howe shall they heare without a preacher?
Πῶς οὖν ἐπικαλέσωνται εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν; πῶς δὲ πιστεύσωσιν οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν; πῶς δὲ ἀκούσωσιν χωρὶς κηρύσσοντος;
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written: How beautifull are the feete of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
GenevaAnd how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, Howe beautifull are the feete of them which bring glad tidings of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
But they haue not all obeyed the Gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath beleeued our report?
GenevaBut they haue not all obeyed ye Gospel: for Esaias saith, Lord, who hath beleeued our report?
ἀλλ’ οὐ πάντες ὑπήκουσαν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ· Ἠσαΐας γὰρ λέγει· Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν;
So then, faith commeth by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
GenevaThen faith is by hearing, and hearing by the worde of God.
But I say, haue they not heard? yes verely, their sound went into all the earth, and their words vnto the ends of the world.
GenevaBut I demaund, Haue they not heard? No doubt their sound went out through all the earth, and their wordes into the endes of the worlde.
But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will prouoke you to iealousie by them that are no people, & by a foolish nation I will anger you.
GenevaBut I demaund, Did not Israel knowe God? First Moses sayth, I will prouoke you to enuie by a nation that is not my nation, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not: I was made manifest vnto them, that asked not after me.
GenevaAnd Esaias is bolde, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not, and haue bene made manifest to them that asked not after me.
But to Israel he sayth, All day long I haue stretched foorth my hands vnto a disobedient and gainesaying people.
GenevaAnd vnto Israel hee sayth, All the day long haue I stretched foorth mine hand vnto a disobedient, and gainesaying people.
