1 Kings 20
And Benhadad the King of Syria gathered all his hoste together, and there were thirtie and two kings with him, and horses, and charets: and hee went vp and besieged Samaria, and warred against it.
GenevaThen Ben-hadad the King of Aram assembled all his armie, and two and thirtie Kings with him, with horses, and charets, and went vp and besieged Samaria, and fought against it.
וּ/בֶן הֲדַ֣ד מֶֽלֶךְ אֲרָ֗ם קָבַץ֙ אֶת כָּל חֵיל֔/וֹ וּ/שְׁלֹשִׁ֨ים וּ/שְׁנַ֥יִם מֶ֛לֶךְ אִתּ֖/וֹ וְ/ס֣וּס וָ/רָ֑כֶב וַ/יַּ֗עַל וַ/יָּ֨צַר֙ עַל שֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַ/יִּלָּ֖חֶם בָּֽ/הּ
And hee sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and saide vnto him, Thus saith Benhadad,

וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֧ח מַלְאָכִ֛ים אֶל אַחְאָ֥ב מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הָ/עִֽירָ/ה
Thy siluer and thy gold is mine, thy wiues also, and thy children, euen the goodliest, are mine.
GenevaAnd sayd vnto him, Thus sayth Ben-hadad, Thy siluer and thy golde is mine: also thy women, and thy fayre children are mine.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗/וֹ כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר בֶּן הֲדַ֔ד כַּסְפְּ/ךָ֥ וּֽ/זְהָבְ/ךָ֖ לִֽ/י ה֑וּא וְ/נָשֶׁ֧י/ךָ וּ/בָנֶ֛י/ךָ הַ/טּוֹבִ֖ים לִ/י הֵֽם
And the king of Israel answered, and said, My lord O king, according to thy saying, I am thine, and all that I haue.

וַ/יַּ֤עַן מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וַ/יֹּ֔אמֶר כִּ/דְבָרְ/ךָ֖ אֲדֹנִ֣/י הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ לְ/ךָ֥ אֲנִ֖י וְ/כָל אֲשֶׁר לִֽ/י
And the messengers came againe, and saide, Thus speaketh Benhadad, saying, Although I haue sent vnto thee, saying, Thou shalt deliuer me thy siluer, and thy gold, and thy wiues, and thy children:
GenevaAnd when the messengers came againe, they said, Thus commandeth Ben-hadad, and saith, When I shall send vnto thee, and command, thou shalt deliuer me thy siluer and thy golde, and thy women, and thy children,
וַ/יָּשֻׁ֨בוּ֙ הַ/מַּלְאָכִ֔ים וַ/יֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ כֹּֽה אָמַ֥ר בֶּן הֲדַ֖ד לֵ/אמֹ֑ר כִּֽי שָׁלַ֤חְתִּי אֵלֶ֨י/ךָ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר כַּסְפְּ/ךָ֧ וּ/זְהָבְ/ךָ֛ וְ/נָשֶׁ֥י/ךָ וּ/בָנֶ֖י/ךָ לִ֥/י תִתֵּֽן
Yet I will send my seruants vnto thee to morrow about this time, and they shall search thine house, and the houses of thy seruants; and it shall be, that whatsoeuer is pleasant in thine eies, they shall put it in their hand, and take it away.

כִּ֣י אִם כָּ/עֵ֣ת מָחָ֗ר אֶשְׁלַ֤ח אֶת עֲבָדַ/י֙ אֵלֶ֔י/ךָ וְ/חִפְּשׂוּ֙ אֶת בֵּ֣יתְ/ךָ֔ וְ/אֵ֖ת בָּתֵּ֣י עֲבָדֶ֑י/ךָ וְ/הָיָה֙ כָּל מַחְמַ֣ד עֵינֶ֔י/ךָ יָשִׂ֥ימוּ בְ/יָדָ֖/ם וְ/לָקָֽחוּ
Then the king of Israel called all the Elders of the land, and saide; Marke, I pray you, and see how this man seeketh mischiefe: for hee sent vnto me for my wiues, and for my children, and for my siluer, and for my gold, and I denied him not.

וַ/יִּקְרָ֤א מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לְ/כָל זִקְנֵ֣י הָ/אָ֔רֶץ וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ דְּעֽוּ נָ֣א וּ/רְא֔וּ כִּ֥י רָעָ֖ה זֶ֣ה מְבַקֵּ֑שׁ כִּֽי שָׁלַ֨ח אֵלַ֜/י לְ/נָשַׁ֤/י וּ/לְ/בָנַ/י֙ וּ/לְ/כַסְפִּ֣/י וְ/לִ/זְהָבִ֔/י וְ/לֹ֥א מָנַ֖עְתִּי מִמֶּֽ/נּוּ
And all the Elders, and all the people said vnto him; Hearken not vnto him, nor consent.
GenevaAnd all the Elders, and all the people sayd to him, Hearken not vnto him, nor consent.
וַ/יֹּאמְר֥וּ אֵלָ֛י/ו כָּל הַ/זְּקֵנִ֖ים וְ/כָל הָ/עָ֑ם אַל תִּשְׁמַ֖ע וְ/ל֥וֹא תֹאבֶֽה
Wherefore hee said vnto the messengers of Benhadad, Tell my lord the king, All that thou diddest send for to thy seruant at the first, I will doe: but this thing I may not doe. And the messengers departed, and brought him word againe.

וַ/יֹּ֜אמֶר לְ/מַלְאֲכֵ֣י בֶן הֲדַ֗ד אִמְר֞וּ לַֽ/אדֹנִ֤/י הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ כֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁר שָׁלַ֨חְתָּ אֶל עַבְדְּ/ךָ֤ בָ/רִֽאשֹׁנָה֙ אֶעֱשֶׂ֔ה וְ/הַ/דָּבָ֣ר הַ/זֶּ֔ה לֹ֥א אוּכַ֖ל לַ/עֲשׂ֑וֹת וַ/יֵּֽלְכוּ֙ הַ/מַּלְאָכִ֔ים וַ/יְשִׁבֻ֖/הוּ דָּבָֽר
And Benhadad sent vnto him, and said, The gods doe so vnto me and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people that follow me.
GenevaAnd Ben-hadad sent vnto him, and sayde, The gods do so to me and more also, if the dust of Samaria be ynough to all the people that follow me, for euery man an handfull.
וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֤ח אֵלָי/ו֙ בֶּן הֲדַ֔ד וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר כֹּֽה יַעֲשׂ֥וּ/ן לִ֛/י אֱלֹהִ֖ים וְ/כֹ֣ה יוֹסִ֑פוּ אִם יִשְׂפֹּק֙ עֲפַ֣ר שֹׁמְר֔וֹן לִ/שְׁעָלִ֕ים לְ/כָל הָ/עָ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּ/רַגְלָֽ/י
And the king of Israel answered, and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harnesse, boast himselfe, as he that putteth it off.
GenevaAnd the King of Israel answered, and sayd, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth his harneis, boast himselfe, as he that putteth it off.
וַ/יַּ֤עַן מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר דַּבְּר֔וּ אַל יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל חֹגֵ֖ר כִּ/מְפַתֵּֽחַ
And it came to passe, when Benhadad heard this message (as hee was drinking, he and the kings in the pauilions) that hee said vnto his seruants, Set yourselues in aray. And they set themselues in aray against the citie.
GenevaAnd when he heard that tidings, as he was with the Kings drinking in the pauilions, he sayd vnto his seruants, Bring forth your engines, and they set them against the citie.
וַ/יְהִ֗י כִּ/שְׁמֹ֨עַ֙ אֶת הַ/דָּבָ֣ר הַ/זֶּ֔ה וְ/ה֥וּא שֹׁתֶ֛ה ה֥וּא וְ/הַ/מְּלָכִ֖ים בַּ/סֻּכּ֑וֹת וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל עֲבָדָי/ו֙ שִׂ֔ימוּ וַ/יָּשִׂ֖ימוּ עַל הָ/עִֽיר
¶ And behold, there came a Prophet vnto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou seene all this great multitude? behold, I will deliuer it into thine hand this day, and thou shalt knowe that I am the LORD.
GenevaAnd beholde, there came a Prophet vnto Ahab King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Hast thou seene all this great multitude? beholde, I will deliuer it into thine hande this day, that thou mayest knowe, that I am the Lord.
וְ/הִנֵּ֣ה נָבִ֣יא אֶחָ֗ד נִגַּשׁ֮ אֶל אַחְאָ֣ב מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הְֽ/רָאִ֔יתָ אֵ֛ת כָּל הֶ/הָמ֥וֹן הַ/גָּד֖וֹל הַ/זֶּ֑ה הִנְ/נִ֨י נֹתְנ֤/וֹ בְ/יָֽדְ/ךָ֙ הַ/יּ֔וֹם וְ/יָדַעְתָּ֖ כִּֽי אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה
And Ahab saide, By whom? and he saide, Thus saith the LORD, Euen by the young men of the Princes of the prouinces: Then he said, Who shall order the battell? And hee answered, Thou.
GenevaAnd Ahab sayd, By whome? And he sayde, Thus sayth the Lord, By the seruants of the princes of the prouinces. He sayde againe, Who shall order the battel? And he answered, Thou.
וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר אַחְאָב֙ בְּ/מִ֔י וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ כֹּֽה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה בְּ/נַעֲרֵ֖י שָׂרֵ֣י הַ/מְּדִינ֑וֹת וַ/יֹּ֛אמֶר מִֽי יֶאְסֹ֥ר הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֖ה וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר אָֽתָּה
Then he numbred the young men of the Princes of the prouinces, and they were two hundred and thirty two: and after them hee numbred all the people, euen all the children of Israel, being seuen thousand.
GenevaThen he nombred the seruantes of the princes of the prouinces, and they were two hundreth, two and thirtie: and after them he nombred the whole people of all the children of Israel, euen seuen thousand.
וַ/יִּפְקֹ֗ד אֶֽת נַעֲרֵי֙ שָׂרֵ֣י הַ/מְּדִינ֔וֹת וַ/יִּהְי֕וּ מָאתַ֖יִם שְׁנַ֣יִם וּ/שְׁלֹשִׁ֑ים וְ/אַחֲרֵי/הֶ֗ם פָּקַ֧ד אֶת כָּל הָ/עָ֛ם כָּל בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל שִׁבְעַ֥ת אֲלָפִֽים
And they went out at noone: But Benhadad was drinking himselfe drunke in the pauilions, hee and the kings, the thirty and two kings that helped him.
GenevaAnd they went out at noone: but Ben-hadad did drinke till he was drunken in the tentes, both he and the Kings: for two and thirtie Kings helped him.
וַ/יֵּצְא֖וּ בַּֽ/צָּהֳרָ֑יִם וּ/בֶן הֲדַד֩ שֹׁתֶ֨ה שִׁכּ֜וֹר בַּ/סֻּכּ֗וֹת ה֧וּא וְ/הַ/מְּלָכִ֛ים שְׁלֹשִֽׁים וּ/שְׁנַ֥יִם מֶ֖לֶךְ עֹזֵ֥ר אֹתֽ/וֹ
And the young men of the Princes of the Prouinces went out first, and Benhadad sent out, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
GenevaSo the seruants of the princes of the prouinces went out first: and Ben-hadad sent out, and they shewed him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.
וַ/יֵּצְא֗וּ נַעֲרֵ֛י שָׂרֵ֥י הַ/מְּדִינ֖וֹת בָּ/רִֽאשֹׁנָ֑ה וַ/יִּשְׁלַ֣ח בֶּן הֲדַ֗ד וַ/יַּגִּ֤ידוּ ל/וֹ֙ לֵ/אמֹ֔ר אֲנָשִׁ֕ים יָצְא֖וּ מִ/שֹּׁמְרֽוֹן
And he said, Whether they be come out for peace, take them aliue: or whether they be come out for warre, take them aliue.
GenevaAnd he sayde, Whether they be come out for peace, take them aliue: or whether they bee come out to fight, take them yet aliue.
וַ/יֹּ֛אמֶר אִם לְ/שָׁל֥וֹם יָצָ֖אוּ תִּפְשׂ֣וּ/ם חַיִּ֑ים וְ/אִ֧ם לְ/מִלְחָמָ֛ה יָצָ֖אוּ חַיִּ֥ים תִּפְשֽׂוּ/ם
So these yong men of the princes of the prouinces, came out of the citie, and the armie which followed them:
GenevaSo they came out of the citie, to wit, the seruants of the princes of the prouinces, and the hoste which followed them.
וְ/אֵ֨לֶּה֙ יָצְא֣וּ מִן הָ/עִ֔יר נַעֲרֵ֖י שָׂרֵ֣י הַ/מְּדִינ֑וֹת וְ/הַ/חַ֖יִל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַחֲרֵי/הֶֽם
And they slew euery one his man: and the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them: and Benhadad the king of Syria escaped on an horse, with the horsemen.
GenevaAnd they slew euery one his enemie: and the Aramites fled, and Israel pursued them: but Ben-hadad ye King of Aram escaped on an horse with his horsemen.
וַ/יַּכּוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ אִישׁ֔/וֹ וַ/יָּנֻ֣סוּ אֲרָ֔ם וַֽ/יִּרְדְּפֵ֖/ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַ/יִּמָּלֵ֗ט בֶּן הֲדַד֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ אֲרָ֔ם עַל ס֖וּס וּ/פָרָשִֽׁים
And the king of Israel went out, and smote the horses and charets, and slewe the Syrians with a great slaughter.
GenevaAnd the King of Israel went out, and smote the horses and charets, and with a great slaughter slew he the Aramites.
וַ/יֵּצֵא֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַ/יַּ֥ךְ אֶת הַ/סּ֖וּס וְ/אֶת הָ/רָ֑כֶב וְ/הִכָּ֥ה בַ/אֲרָ֖ם מַכָּ֥ה גְדוֹלָֽה
¶ And the Prophet came to the king of Israel, and said vnto him, Goe, strengthen thy selfe, and marke and see what thou doest: for at the returne of the yeere, the king of Syria will come vp against thee.
Geneva(For there had come a Prophet to the King of Israel, and had sayd vnto him, Goe, be of good courage, and consider, and take heede what thou doest: for when the yeere is gone about, the King of Aram wil come vp against thee)
וַ/יִּגַּ֤שׁ הַ/נָּבִיא֙ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַ/יֹּ֤אמֶר ל/וֹ֙ לֵ֣ךְ הִתְחַזַּ֔ק וְ/דַ֥ע וּ/רְאֵ֖ה אֵ֣ת אֲשֶֽׁר תַּעֲשֶׂ֑ה כִּ֚י לִ/תְשׁוּבַ֣ת הַ/שָּׁנָ֔ה מֶ֥לֶךְ אֲרָ֖ם עֹלֶ֥ה עָלֶֽי/ךָ
And the seruants of the King of Syria said vnto him, Their gods are gods of the hilles, therefore they were stronger then wee: but let vs fight against them in the plaine, and surely we shall be stronger then they.
GenevaThen the seruants of the King of Aram said vnto him, Their gods are gods of the moutaines, and therefore they ouercame vs: but let vs fight against them in the playne, and doubtlesse we shall ouercome them.
וְ/עַבְדֵ֨י מֶֽלֶךְ אֲרָ֜ם אָמְר֣וּ אֵלָ֗י/ו אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָרִים֙ אֱלֹ֣הֵי/הֶ֔ם עַל כֵּ֖ן חָזְק֣וּ מִמֶּ֑/נּוּ וְ/אוּלָ֗ם נִלָּחֵ֤ם אִתָּ/ם֙ בַּ/מִּישׁ֔וֹר אִם לֹ֥א נֶחֱזַ֖ק מֵ/הֶֽם
And doe this thing, Take the kings away, euery man out of his place, and put captaines in their roumes.
GenevaAnd this doe, Take the Kings away, euery one out of his place, and place captaines for them.
וְ/אֶת הַ/דָּבָ֥ר הַ/זֶּ֖ה עֲשֵׂ֑ה הָסֵ֤ר הַ/מְּלָכִים֙ אִ֣ישׁ מִ/מְּקֹמ֔/וֹ וְ/שִׂ֥ים פַּח֖וֹת תַּחְתֵּי/הֶֽם
And number thee an armie, like the armie that thou hast lost, horse for horse, and charet for charet: and wee will fight against them in the plaine, and surely wee shall be stronger then they. And hee hearkened vnto their voice, and did so.

וְ/אַתָּ֣ה תִֽמְנֶה לְ/ךָ֣ חַ֡יִל כַּ/חַיִל֩ הַ/נֹּפֵ֨ל מֵ/אוֹתָ֜/ךְ וְ/ס֣וּס כַּ/סּ֣וּס וְ/רֶ֣כֶב כָּ/רֶ֗כֶב וְ/נִֽלָּחֲמָ֤ה אוֹתָ/ם֙ בַּ/מִּישׁ֔וֹר אִם לֹ֥א נֶחֱזַ֖ק מֵ/הֶ֑ם וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֥ע לְ/קֹלָ֖/ם וַ/יַּ֥עַשׂ כֵּֽן
And it came to passe at the returne of the yeere, that Benhadad numbred the Syrians, and went vp to Aphek, to fight against Israel.
GenevaAnd after the yeere was gone about, Ben-hadad nombred the Aramites, and went vp to Aphek to fight against Israel.
וַֽ/יְהִי֙ לִ/תְשׁוּבַ֣ת הַ/שָּׁנָ֔ה וַ/יִּפְקֹ֥ד בֶּן הֲדַ֖ד אֶת אֲרָ֑ם וַ/יַּ֣עַל אֲפֵ֔קָ/ה לַ/מִּלְחָמָ֖ה עִם יִשְׂרָאֵֽל
And the children of Israel were numbred, and were all present, and went against them: and the children of Israel pitched before them, like two little flockes of kids: but the Syrians filled the countrey.

וּ/בְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל הָתְפָּקְדוּ֙ וְ/כָלְכְּל֔וּ וַ/יֵּלְכ֖וּ לִ/קְרָאתָ֑/ם וַ/יַּחֲנ֨וּ בְנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל נֶגְדָּ֗/ם כִּ/שְׁנֵי֙ חֲשִׂפֵ֣י עִזִּ֔ים וַ/אֲרָ֖ם מִלְא֥וּ אֶת הָ/אָֽרֶץ
¶ And there came a man of God, and spake vnto the king of Israel, and sayd, Thus sayth the LORD, Because the Syrians haue sayde, The LORD is God of the hilles, but hee is not God of the valleys: therefore will I deliuer all this great multitude into thine hand, and yee shall know that I am the LORD.
GenevaAnd there came a man of God, and spake vnto the King of Israel, saying, Thus sayeth the Lord, Because the Aramites haue sayd, The Lord is the God of the mountaines, and not God of the valleis, therefore will I deliuer all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
וַ/יִּגַּ֞שׁ אִ֣ישׁ הָ/אֱלֹהִ֗ים וַ/יֹּאמֶר֮ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ וַ/יֹּ֜אמֶר כֹּֽה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה יַ֠עַן אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמְר֤וּ אֲרָם֙ אֱלֹהֵ֤י הָרִים֙ יְהוָ֔ה וְ/לֹֽא אֱלֹהֵ֥י עֲמָקִ֖ים ה֑וּא וְ֠/נָתַתִּי אֶת כָּל הֶ/הָמ֨וֹן הַ/גָּ֤דוֹל הַ/זֶּה֙ בְּ/יָדֶ֔/ךָ וִֽ/ידַעְתֶּ֖ם כִּֽי אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה
And they pitched one ouer against the other seuen daies, and so it was, that in the seuenth day the battell was ioyned: and the children of Israel slewe of the Syrians an hundred thousand footmen in one day.

וַֽ/יַּחֲנ֧וּ אֵ֦לֶּה נֹ֥כַח אֵ֖לֶּה שִׁבְעַ֣ת יָמִ֑ים וַ/יְהִ֣י בַּ/יּ֣וֹם הַ/שְּׁבִיעִ֗י וַ/תִּקְרַב֙ הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַ/יַּכּ֨וּ בְנֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֧ל אֶת אֲרָ֛ם מֵאָה אֶ֥לֶף רַגְלִ֖י בְּ/י֥וֹם אֶחָֽד
But the rest fled to Aphek, into the citie, and there a wall fell vpon twentie and seuen thousand of the men that were left: and Benhadad fled, and came into the citie, into an inner chamber.

וַ/יָּנֻ֨סוּ הַ/נּוֹתָרִ֥ים אֲפֵקָ/ה֮ אֶל הָ/עִיר֒ וַ/תִּפֹּל֙ הַ/חוֹמָ֔ה עַל עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְ/שִׁבְעָ֥ה אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ הַ/נּוֹתָרִ֑ים וּ/בֶן הֲדַ֣ד נָ֔ס וַ/יָּבֹ֥א אֶל הָ/עִ֖יר חֶ֥דֶר בְּ/חָֽדֶר
¶ And his seruants said vnto him, Behold now, wee haue heard that the kings of the house of Israel are mercifull kings: let vs, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loines, and ropes vpon our heads, and goe out to the king of Israel; peraduenture he will saue thy life.

וַ/יֹּאמְר֣וּ אֵלָי/ו֮ עֲבָדָי/ו֒ הִנֵּֽה נָ֣א שָׁמַ֔עְנוּ כִּ֗י מַלְכֵי֙ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּֽי מַלְכֵ֥י חֶ֖סֶד הֵ֑ם נָשִׂ֣ימָה נָּא֩ שַׂקִּ֨ים בְּ/מָתְנֵ֜י/נוּ וַ/חֲבָלִ֣ים בְּ/רֹאשֵׁ֗/נוּ וְ/נֵצֵא֙ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אוּלַ֖י יְחַיֶּ֥ה אֶת נַפְשֶֽׁ/ךָ
So they girded sackcloth on their loynes, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy seruant Benhadad saith, I pray thee, let me liue. And he said, Is he yet aliue? he is my brother.

וַ/יַּחְגְּרוּ֩ שַׂקִּ֨ים בְּ/מָתְנֵי/הֶ֜ם וַ/חֲבָלִ֣ים בְּ/רָאשֵׁי/הֶ֗ם וַ/יָּבֹ֨אוּ֙ אֶל מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַ/יֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ עַבְדְּ/ךָ֧ בֶן הֲדַ֛ד אָמַ֖ר תְּחִֽי נָ֣א נַפְשִׁ֑/י וַ/יֹּ֛אמֶר הַ/עוֹדֶ֥/נּוּ חַ֖י אָחִ֥/י הֽוּא
Now the men did diligently obserue whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they saide, Thy brother Benhadad. Then he said, Goe ye, bring him: then Benhadad came forth to him: and hee caused him to come vp into the charet.
GenevaNow the men tooke diliget heede, if they could catch any thing of him, and made haste, and sayd, Thy brother Ben-hadad. And he sayd, Go, bring him. So Ben-hadad came out vnto him, and he caused him to come vp vnto the chariot.
וְ/הָ/אֲנָשִׁים֩ יְנַחֲשׁ֨וּ וַֽ/יְמַהֲר֜וּ וַ/יַּחְלְט֣וּ הֲ/מִמֶּ֗/נּוּ וַ/יֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אָחִ֣י/ךָ בֶן הֲדַ֔ד וַ/יֹּ֖אמֶר בֹּ֣אוּ קָחֻ֑/הוּ וַ/יֵּצֵ֤א אֵלָי/ו֙ בֶּן הֲדַ֔ד וַֽ/יַּעֲלֵ֖/הוּ עַל הַ/מֶּרְכָּבָֽה
And Benhadad said vnto him, The cities which my father tooke from thy father, I will restore, and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then, said Ahab, I will send thee away with this couenant. So he made a couenant with him, and sent him away.

וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֡י/ו הֶ/עָרִ֣ים אֲשֶׁר לָֽקַח אָבִ/י֩ מֵ/אֵ֨ת אָבִ֜י/ךָ אָשִׁ֗יב וְ֠/חוּצוֹת תָּשִׂ֨ים לְ/ךָ֤ בְ/דַמֶּ֨שֶׂק֙ כַּ/אֲשֶׁר שָׂ֤ם אָבִ/י֙ בְּ/שֹׁ֣מְר֔וֹן וַ/אֲנִ֖י בַּ/בְּרִ֣ית אֲשַׁלְּחֶ֑/ךָּ וַ/יִּכְרָת ל֥/וֹ בְרִ֖ית וַֽ/יְשַׁלְּחֵֽ/הוּ
¶ And a certaine man of the sonnes of the Prophets, saide vnto his neighbour in the word of the LORD, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man refused to smite him.

Then said he vnto him, Because thou hast not obeyed the voyce of the LORD, beholde, assoone as thou art departed from me, a lyon shal slay thee. And assoone as hee was departed from him, a lyon found him, and slew him.

Then he found another man, and said, Smite me, I pray thee. And the man smote him, so that in smiting hee wounded him.

So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himselfe with ashes vpon his face.

And as the king passed by, he cried vnto the king: and he saide, Thy seruant went out into the mids of the battell, and behold, a man turned aside, and brought a man vnto me, and said, Keep this man: if by any meanes he be missing, then shall thy life be for his life, or else thou shalt pay a talent of siluer.

וַ/יְהִ֤י הַ/מֶּ֨לֶךְ֙ עֹבֵ֔ר וְ/ה֖וּא צָעַ֣ק אֶל הַ/מֶּ֑לֶךְ וַ/יֹּ֜אמֶר עַבְדְּ/ךָ֣ יָצָ֣א בְ/קֶֽרֶב הַ/מִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְ/הִנֵּֽה אִ֨ישׁ סָ֜ר וַ/יָּבֵ֧א אֵלַ֣/י אִ֗ישׁ וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ שְׁמֹר֙ אֶת הָ/אִ֣ישׁ הַ/זֶּ֔ה אִם הִפָּקֵד֙ יִפָּקֵ֔ד וְ/הָיְתָ֤ה נַפְשְׁ/ךָ֙ תַּ֣חַת נַפְשׁ֔/וֹ א֥וֹ כִכַּר כֶּ֖סֶף תִּשְׁקֽוֹל
And as thy seruant was busie here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel saide vnto him, So shall thy iudgement bee, thy selfe hast discided it.

וַ/יְהִ֣י עַבְדְּ/ךָ֗ עֹשֵׂ֥ה הֵ֛נָּה וָ/הֵ֖נָּה וְ/ה֣וּא אֵינֶ֑/נּוּ וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֧י/ו מֶֽלֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל כֵּ֥ן מִשְׁפָּטֶ֖/ךָ אַתָּ֥ה חָרָֽצְתָּ
And he hasted, and tooke the ashes away from his face, and the king of Israel discerned him that hee was of the Prophets.

וַ/יְמַהֵ֕ר וַ/יָּ֨סַר֙ אֶת הָ֣/אֲפֵ֔ר מ/על עֵינָ֑י/ו וַ/יַּכֵּ֤ר אֹת/וֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֥י מֵֽ/הַ/נְּבִאִ֖ים הֽוּא
And hee said vnto him, Thus saith the LORD, Because thou hast let goe out of thy hand, a man whom I appointed to vtter destruction, therfore thy life shall goe for his life, and thy people for his people.

And the king of Israel went to his house, heauie, and displeased, and came to Samaria.
