Chapter 21
Genesis 21
And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did vnto Sarah as he had spoken.
GenevaNowe the Lord visited Sarah, as he had saide, and did vnto her according as he had promised.
וַֽ/יהוָ֛ה פָּקַ֥ד אֶת שָׂרָ֖ה כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֣ר אָמָ֑ר וַ/יַּ֧עַשׂ יְהוָ֛ה לְ/שָׂרָ֖ה כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר
For Sarah conceiued, and bare Abraham a sonne in his old age, at the set time, of which God had spoken to him.
GenevaFor Sarah conceiued, and bare Abraham a sonne in his olde age, at the same season that God tolde him.
וַ/תַּהַר֩ וַ/תֵּ֨לֶד שָׂרָ֧ה לְ/אַבְרָהָ֛ם בֵּ֖ן לִ/זְקֻנָ֑י/ו לַ/מּוֹעֵ֕ד אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּ֥ר אֹת֖/וֹ אֱלֹהִֽים
And Abraham called the name of his sonne, that was borne vnto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
GenevaAnd Abraham called his sonnes name that was borne vnto him, which Sarah bare him, Izhak.
וַ/יִּקְרָ֨א אַבְרָהָ֜ם אֶֽת שֶׁם בְּנ֧/וֹ הַ/נּֽוֹלַד ל֛/וֹ אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָה לּ֥/וֹ שָׂרָ֖ה יִצְחָֽק
And Abraham circumcised his sonne Isaac, being eight dayes old, as God had commanded him.
GenevaThen Abraham circumcised Izhak his sonne, when he was eight dayes olde, as God had commanded him.
וַ/יָּ֤מָל אַבְרָהָם֙ אֶת יִצְחָ֣ק בְּנ֔/וֹ בֶּן שְׁמֹנַ֖ת יָמִ֑ים כַּ/אֲשֶׁ֛ר צִוָּ֥ה אֹת֖/וֹ אֱלֹהִֽים
And Abraham was an hundred yeeres old, when his sonne Isaac was borne vnto him.
GenevaSo Abraham was an hundreth yeere olde, when his sonne Izhak was borne vnto him.
וְ/אַבְרָהָ֖ם בֶּן מְאַ֣ת שָׁנָ֑ה בְּ/הִוָּ֣לֶד ל֔/וֹ אֵ֖ת יִצְחָ֥ק בְּנֽ/וֹ
¶ And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that heare, will laugh with me.
GenevaThen Sarah said, God hath made me to reioyce: all that heare will reioyce with me.
וַ/תֹּ֣אמֶר שָׂרָ֔ה צְחֹ֕ק עָ֥שָׂה לִ֖/י אֱלֹהִ֑ים כָּל הַ/שֹּׁמֵ֖עַ יִֽצְחַק לִֽ/י
And she said, Who would haue said vnto Abraham, that Sarah should haue giuen children sucke? for I haue borne him a sonne in his old age.
GenevaAgaine she said, Who would haue saide to Abraham, that Sarah shoulde haue giuen children sucke? for I haue borne him a sonne in his olde age.
וַ/תֹּ֗אמֶר מִ֤י מִלֵּל֙ לְ/אַבְרָהָ֔ם הֵינִ֥יקָה בָנִ֖ים שָׂרָ֑ה כִּֽי יָלַ֥דְתִּי בֵ֖ן לִ/זְקֻנָֽי/ו
And the child grew, and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast, the same day that Isaac was weaned.
GenevaThen the childe grewe and was weaned: and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Izhak was weaned.
וַ/יִּגְדַּ֥ל הַ/יֶּ֖לֶד וַ/יִּגָּמַ֑ל וַ/יַּ֤עַשׂ אַבְרָהָם֙ מִשְׁתֶּ֣ה גָד֔וֹל בְּ/י֖וֹם הִגָּמֵ֥ל אֶת יִצְחָֽק
¶ And Sarah saw the sonne of Hagar the Egyptian, which shee had borne vnto Abraham, mocking.
GenevaAnd Sarah sawe the sonne of Hagar the Egyptian (which she had borne vnto Abraham) mocking.
וַ/תֵּ֨רֶא שָׂרָ֜ה אֶֽת בֶּן הָגָ֧ר הַ/מִּצְרִ֛ית אֲשֶׁר יָלְדָ֥ה לְ/אַבְרָהָ֖ם מְצַחֵֽק
Wherfore she said vnto Abraham, Cast out this bond woman, and her sonne: for the sonne of this bond woman shall not be heire with my sonne, euen with Isaac.
GenevaWherefore she saide vnto Abraham, Cast out this bond woman and her sonne: for ye sonne of this bonde woman shall not be heire with my sonne Izhak.
וַ/תֹּ֨אמֶר֙ לְ/אַבְרָהָ֔ם גָּרֵ֛שׁ הָ/אָמָ֥ה הַ/זֹּ֖את וְ/אֶת בְּנָ֑/הּ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יִירַשׁ֙ בֶּן הָ/אָמָ֣ה הַ/זֹּ֔את עִם בְּנִ֖/י עִם יִצְחָֽק
And the thing was very grieuous in Abrahams sight, because of his sonne.
GenevaAnd this thing was very grieuous in Abrahams sight, because of his sonne.
וַ/יֵּ֧רַע הַ/דָּבָ֛ר מְאֹ֖ד בְּ/עֵינֵ֣י אַבְרָהָ֑ם עַ֖ל אוֹדֹ֥ת בְּנֽ/וֹ
¶ And God said vnto Abraham, Let it not be grieuous in thy sight, because of the lad, and because of thy bond woman. In all that Sarah hath said vnto thee, hearken vnto her voice: for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
GenevaBut God said vnto Abraham, Let it not be grieuous in thy sight for the childe, and for thy bonde woman: in all that Sarah shall say vnto thee, heare her voyce: for in Izhak shall thy seede be called.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֜ים אֶל אַבְרָהָ֗ם אַל יֵרַ֤ע בְּ/עֵינֶ֨י/ךָ֙ עַל הַ/נַּ֣עַר וְ/עַל אֲמָתֶ֔/ךָ כֹּל֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר תֹּאמַ֥ר אֵלֶ֛י/ךָ שָׂרָ֖ה שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ/קֹלָ֑/הּ כִּ֣י בְ/יִצְחָ֔ק יִקָּרֵ֥א לְ/ךָ֖ זָֽרַע
And also, of the sonne of the bond woman will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.
GenevaAs for the sonne of the bond woman, I will make him a nation also, because he is thy seede.
וְ/גַ֥ם אֶת בֶּן הָ/אָמָ֖ה לְ/ג֣וֹי אֲשִׂימֶ֑/נּוּ כִּ֥י זַרְעֲ/ךָ֖ הֽוּא
And Abraham rose vp earely in the morning, and tooke bread, and a bottle of water, and gaue it vnto Hagar, (putting it on her shoulder,) and the child, and sent her away: and shee departed, and wandered in the wildernesse of Beer-sheba.
GenevaSo Abraham arose vp early in ye morning, and tooke bread, and a bottell of water, and gaue it vnto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the childe also, and sent her away: who departing wandred in the wildernesse of Beer-sheba.
וַ/יַּשְׁכֵּ֣ם אַבְרָהָ֣ם בַּ/בֹּ֡קֶר וַ/יִּֽקַּֽח לֶחֶם֩ וְ/חֵ֨מַת מַ֜יִם וַ/יִּתֵּ֣ן אֶל הָ֠גָר שָׂ֧ם עַל שִׁכְמָ֛/הּ וְ/אֶת הַ/יֶּ֖לֶד וַֽ/יְשַׁלְּחֶ֑/הָ וַ/תֵּ֣לֶךְ וַ/תֵּ֔תַע בְּ/מִדְבַּ֖ר בְּאֵ֥ר שָֽׁבַע
And the water was spent in the bottle, and shee cast the child vnder one of the shrubs.
GenevaAnd when the water of the bottell was spent, she cast the childe vnder a certaine tree.
וַ/יִּכְל֥וּ הַ/מַּ֖יִם מִן הַ/חֵ֑מֶת וַ/תַּשְׁלֵ֣ךְ אֶת הַ/יֶּ֔לֶד תַּ֖חַת אַחַ֥ד הַ/שִּׂיחִֽם
And she went, and sate her downe ouer against him, a good way off, as it were a bow shoot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And shee sate ouer against him, and lift vp her voice, and wept.
GenevaThen she went and sate her ouer against him a farre off about a bowe shoote: for she said, I will not see the death of the child. and she sate downe ouer against him, and lift vp her voyce and wept.
וַ/תֵּלֶךְ֩ וַ/תֵּ֨שֶׁב לָ֜/הּ מִ/נֶּ֗גֶד הַרְחֵק֙ כִּ/מְטַחֲוֵ֣י קֶ֔שֶׁת כִּ֣י אָֽמְרָ֔ה אַל אֶרְאֶ֖ה בְּ/מ֣וֹת הַ/יָּ֑לֶד וַ/תֵּ֣שֶׁב מִ/נֶּ֔גֶד וַ/תִּשָּׂ֥א אֶת קֹלָ֖/הּ וַ/תֵּֽבְךְּ
And God heard the voice of the lad, and the Angel of God called to Hagar out of heauen, and said vnto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? feare not: for God hath heard the voice of the ladde, where he is.
GenevaThen God heard the voyce of ye childe, and the Angel of God called to Hagar from heauen, and said vnto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? feare not, for God hath heard the voyce of the childe where he is.
וַ/יִּשְׁמַ֣ע אֱלֹהִים֮ אֶת ק֣וֹל הַ/נַּעַר֒ וַ/יִּקְרָא֩ מַלְאַ֨ךְ אֱלֹהִ֤ים אֶל הָגָר֙ מִן הַ/שָּׁמַ֔יִם וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר לָ֖/הּ מַה לָּ֣/ךְ הָגָ֑ר אַל תִּ֣ירְאִ֔י כִּֽי שָׁמַ֧ע אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶל ק֥וֹל הַ/נַּ֖עַר בַּ/אֲשֶׁ֥ר הוּא שָֽׁם
Arise, lift vp the lad, and hold him in thine hand: for I will make him a great nation.
GenevaArise, take vp the childe, and holde him in thine hand: for I will make of him a great people.
ק֚וּמִי שְׂאִ֣י אֶת הַ/נַּ֔עַר וְ/הַחֲזִ֥יקִי אֶת יָדֵ֖/ךְ בּ֑/וֹ כִּֽי לְ/ג֥וֹי גָּד֖וֹל אֲשִׂימֶֽ/נּוּ
And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water, and shee went, and filled the bottle with water, and gaue the lad drinke.
GenevaAnd God opened her eyes, and she sawe a well of water. so she went and filled the bottell with water, and gaue the boy drinke.
וַ/יִּפְקַ֤ח אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶת עֵינֶ֔י/הָ וַ/תֵּ֖רֶא בְּאֵ֣ר מָ֑יִם וַ/תֵּ֜לֶךְ וַ/תְּמַלֵּ֤א אֶת הַ/חֵ֨מֶת֙ מַ֔יִם וַ/תַּ֖שְׁקְ אֶת הַ/נָּֽעַר
And God was with the lad, and he grew, and dwelt in the wildernesse, and became an archer.
GenevaSo God was with the childe, and he grewe and dwelt in the wildernesse, and was an archer.
וַ/יְהִ֧י אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת הַ/נַּ֖עַר וַ/יִּגְדָּ֑ל וַ/יֵּ֨שֶׁב֙ בַּ/מִּדְבָּ֔ר וַ/יְהִ֖י רֹבֶ֥ה קַשָּֽׁת
And hee dwelt in the wildernesse of Paran: and his mother tooke him a wife out of the land of Egypt.
GenevaAnd he dwelt in the wildernesse of Paran, and his mother tooke him a wife out of the land of Egypt.
וַ/יֵּ֖שֶׁב בְּ/מִדְבַּ֣ר פָּארָ֑ן וַ/תִּֽקַּֽח ל֥/וֹ אִמּ֛/וֹ אִשָּׁ֖ה מֵ/אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם
¶ And it came to passe at that time, that Abimelech and Phichol the chiefe captaine of his hoste spake vnto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest.
GenevaAnd at that same time Abimelech and Phichol his chief captaine spake vnto Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest.
וַֽ/יְהִי֙ בָּ/עֵ֣ת הַ/הִ֔וא וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֗לֶךְ וּ/פִיכֹל֙ שַׂר צְבָא֔/וֹ אֶל אַבְרָהָ֖ם לֵ/אמֹ֑ר אֱלֹהִ֣ים עִמְּ/ךָ֔ בְּ/כֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר אַתָּ֖ה עֹשֶֽׂה
Now therefore sweare vnto mee here by God, that thou wilt not deale falsly with me, nor with my sonne, nor with my sonnes sonne: but according to the kindnesse that I haue done vnto thee, thou shalt doe vnto me, and to the land wherein thou hast soiourned.
GenevaNowe therefore sweare vnto me here by God, that thou wilt not hurt me, nor my children, nor my childrens children: thou shalt deale with me, and with the countrey, where thou hast bene a stranger, according vnto the kindnesse that I haue shewed thee.
וְ/עַתָּ֗ה הִשָּׁ֨בְעָ/ה לִּ֤/י בֵֽ/אלֹהִים֙ הֵ֔נָּה אִם תִּשְׁקֹ֣ר לִ֔/י וּ/לְ/נִינִ֖/י וּ/לְ/נֶכְדִּ֑/י כַּ/חֶ֜סֶד אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂ֤יתִי עִמְּ/ךָ֙ תַּעֲשֶׂ֣ה עִמָּדִ֔/י וְ/עִם הָ/אָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר גַּ֥רְתָּה בָּֽ/הּ
And Abraham saide, I will sweare.
GenevaThen Abraham said, I will sweare.
וַ/יֹּ֨אמֶר֙ אַבְרָהָ֔ם אָנֹכִ֖י אִשָּׁבֵֽעַ
And Abraham reproued Abimelech, because of a well of water, which Abimelechs seruants had violently taken away.
GenevaAnd Abraham rebuked Abimelech for a well of water, which Abimelechs seruants had violently taken away.
וְ/הוֹכִ֥חַ אַבְרָהָ֖ם אֶת אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ עַל אֹדוֹת֙ בְּאֵ֣ר הַ/מַּ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר גָּזְל֖וּ עַבְדֵ֥י אֲבִימֶֽלֶךְ
And Abimelech saide, I wote not who hath done this thing: neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it, but to day.
GenevaAnd Abimelech saide, I knowe not who hath done this thing: also thou toldest me not, neither heard I of it but this day.
וַ/יֹּ֣אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֔לֶךְ לֹ֣א יָדַ֔עְתִּי מִ֥י עָשָׂ֖ה אֶת הַ/דָּבָ֣ר הַ/זֶּ֑ה וְ/גַם אַתָּ֞ה לֹא הִגַּ֣דְתָּ לִּ֗/י וְ/גַ֧ם אָנֹכִ֛י לֹ֥א שָׁמַ֖עְתִּי בִּלְתִּ֥י הַ/יּֽוֹם
And Abraham tooke sheepe and oxen, and gaue them vnto Abimelech: and both of them made a couenant.
GenevaThen Abraham tooke sheepe and beeues, and gaue them vnto Abimelech: and they two made a couenant.
וַ/יִּקַּ֤ח אַבְרָהָם֙ צֹ֣אן וּ/בָקָ֔ר וַ/יִּתֵּ֖ן לַ/אֲבִימֶ֑לֶךְ וַ/יִּכְרְת֥וּ שְׁנֵי/הֶ֖ם בְּרִֽית
And Abraham set seuen ewe lambes of the flocke by themselues.

וַ/יַּצֵּ֣ב אַבְרָהָ֗ם אֶת שֶׁ֛בַע כִּבְשֹׂ֥ת הַ/צֹּ֖אן לְ/בַדְּ/הֶֽן
And Abimelech said vnto Abraham, What meane these seuen ewe lambes, which thou hast set by themselues?

וַ/יֹּ֥אמֶר אֲבִימֶ֖לֶךְ אֶל אַבְרָהָ֑ם מָ֣ה הֵ֗נָּה שֶׁ֤בַע כְּבָשֹׂת֙ הָ/אֵ֔לֶּה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הִצַּ֖בְתָּ לְ/בַדָּֽ/נָה
And he said, For these seuen ewe lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witnesse vnto me, that I haue digged this well.
GenevaAnd he answered, Because thou shalt receiue of mine hand these seuen lambes, that it may be a witnes vnto me, that I haue digged this well.
וַ/יֹּ֕אמֶר כִּ֚י אֶת שֶׁ֣בַע כְּבָשֹׂ֔ת תִּקַּ֖ח מִ/יָּדִ֑/י בַּ/עֲבוּר֙ תִּֽהְיֶה לִּ֣/י לְ/עֵדָ֔ה כִּ֥י חָפַ֖רְתִּי אֶת הַ/בְּאֵ֥ר הַ/זֹּֽאת
Wherefore he called that place, Beer-sheba: because there they sware both of them.

עַל כֵּ֗ן קָרָ֛א לַ/מָּק֥וֹם הַ/ה֖וּא בְּאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע כִּ֛י שָׁ֥ם נִשְׁבְּע֖וּ שְׁנֵי/הֶֽם
Thus they made a couenant at Beeer-sheba: then Abimelech rose vp, and Phichol the chiefe captaine of his hoste, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.
GenevaThus made they a couenant at Beer-sheba: afterward Abimelech and Phichol his chiefe captaine rose vp, and turned againe vnto the land of the Philistims.
וַ/יִּכְרְת֥וּ בְרִ֖ית בִּ/בְאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע וַ/יָּ֣קָם אֲבִימֶ֗לֶךְ וּ/פִיכֹל֙ שַׂר צְבָא֔/וֹ וַ/יָּשֻׁ֖בוּ אֶל אֶ֥רֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּֽים
¶ And Abraham planted a groue in Beer-sheba, and called there on the Name of the LORD, the euerlasting God.

וַ/יִּטַּ֥ע אֶ֖שֶׁל בִּ/בְאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע וַ/יִּ֨קְרָא שָׁ֔ם בְּ/שֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֵ֥ל עוֹלָֽם
And Abraham soiourned in the Philistines land, many dayes.
GenevaAnd Abraham was a stranger in the Philistims land a long season.
וַ/יָּ֧גָר אַבְרָהָ֛ם בְּ/אֶ֥רֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים יָמִ֥ים רַבִּֽים
