Isaiah 21

The burden of the desert of the sea. As whirlewinds in the South passe thorough; so it commeth from the desert, from a terrible land.

GenevaThe burden of the desert Sea. As the whirlewindes in the South vse to passe from the wildernesse, so shall it come from the horrible land.

מַשָּׂ֖א מִדְבַּר יָ֑ם כְּ/סוּפ֤וֹת בַּ/נֶּ֨גֶב֙ לַֽ/חֲלֹ֔ף מִ/מִּדְבָּ֣ר בָּ֔א מֵ/אֶ֖רֶץ נוֹרָאָֽה

A grieuous vision is declared vnto me; The treacherous dealer dealeth treacherously, and the spoiler spoileth: Goe, vp O Elam: besiege, O Media: all the sighing thereof haue I made to cease.

GenevaA grieuous vision was shewed vnto me, The transgressour against a transgressour, and the destroyer against a destroyer. Goe vp Elam, besiege Media: I haue caused all the mourning thereof to cease.

חָז֥וּת קָשָׁ֖ה הֻגַּד לִ֑/י הַ/בּוֹגֵ֤ד בּוֹגֵד֙ וְ/הַ/שּׁוֹדֵ֣ד שׁוֹדֵ֔ד עֲלִ֤י עֵילָם֙ צוּרִ֣י מָדַ֔י כָּל אַנְחָתָ֖/ה הִשְׁבַּֽתִּי

Therefore are my loynes filled with paine, pangs haue taken hold vpon me, as the pangs of a woman that trauelleth: I was bowed downe at the hearing of it, I was dismayed at the seeing of it.

GenevaTherefore are my loynes filled with sorow: sorowes haue taken me as the sorowes of a woman that trauayleth: I was bowed downe when I heard it, and I was amased when I sawe it.

עַל כֵּ֗ן מָלְא֤וּ מָתְנַ/י֙ חַלְחָלָ֔ה צִירִ֣ים אֲחָז֔וּ/נִי כְּ/צִירֵ֖י יֽוֹלֵדָ֑ה נַעֲוֵ֣יתִי מִ/שְּׁמֹ֔עַ נִבְהַ֖לְתִּי מֵ/רְאֽוֹת

My heart panted, fearefulnesse affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into feare vnto me.

GenevaMine heart failed: fearefulnesse troubled me: the night of my pleasures hath he turned into feare vnto me.

תָּעָ֣ה לְבָבִ֔/י פַּלָּצ֖וּת בִּֽעֲתָ֑תְ/נִי אֵ֚ת נֶ֣שֶׁף חִשְׁקִ֔/י שָׂ֥ם לִ֖/י לַ/חֲרָדָֽה

Prepare the table, watch in the watch-tower, eate, drinke: arise yee princes, and anoint the shield.

GenevaPrepare thou the table: watch in the watch towre: eate, drinke: arise, ye princes, anoynt the shielde.

עָרֹ֧ךְ הַ/שֻּׁלְחָ֛ן צָפֹ֥ה הַ/צָּפִ֖ית אָכ֣וֹל שָׁתֹ֑ה ק֥וּמוּ הַ/שָּׂרִ֖ים מִשְׁח֥וּ מָגֵֽן

For thus hath the Lord sayd vnto me; Goe, set a watchman, let him declare what he seeth.

GenevaFor thus hath the Lord said vnto me, Go, set a watchman, to tell what he seeth.

כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר אֵלַ֖/י אֲדֹנָ֑/י לֵ֚ךְ הַעֲמֵ֣ד הַֽ/מְצַפֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִרְאֶ֖ה יַגִּֽיד

And he saw a charet with a couple of horsemen, a charet of asses, and a charet of camels; and hee hearkened diligently with much heede.

GenevaAnd he sawe a charet with two horsemen: a charet of an asse, and a charet of a camel: and he hearkened and tooke diligent heede.

וְ/רָ֣אָה רֶ֗כֶב צֶ֚מֶד פָּֽרָשִׁ֔ים רֶ֥כֶב חֲמ֖וֹר רֶ֣כֶב גָּמָ֑ל וְ/הִקְשִׁ֥יב קֶ֖שֶׁב רַב קָֽשֶׁב

And he cryed; A lyon: my Lord, I stand continually vpon the watch-tower in the day time, and I am set in my ward whole nights.

GenevaAnd he cryed, A lyon: my lorde, I stand continually vpon ye watche towre in the day time, and I am set in my watche euery night:

וַ/יִּקְרָ֖א אַרְיֵ֑ה עַל מִצְפֶּ֣ה אֲדֹנָ֗/י אָנֹכִ֞י עֹמֵ֤ד תָּמִיד֙ יוֹמָ֔ם וְ/עַל מִ֨שְׁמַרְתִּ֔/י אָנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב כָּל הַ/לֵּילֽוֹת

And behold, heere commeth a charet of men with a couple of horsemen: and he answered and sayd; Babylon is fallen, is fallen, and all the grauen images of her Gods he hath broken vnto the ground.

GenevaAnd beholde, this mans charet commeth with two horsemen. And he answered and said, Babel is fallen: it is fallen, and all the images of her gods hath he broken vnto the ground.

וְ/הִנֵּה זֶ֥ה בָא֙ רֶ֣כֶב אִ֔ישׁ צֶ֖מֶד פָּֽרָשִׁ֑ים וַ/יַּ֣עַן וַ/יֹּ֗אמֶר נָפְלָ֤ה נָֽפְלָה֙ בָּבֶ֔ל וְ/כָל פְּסִילֵ֥י אֱלֹהֶ֖י/הָ שִׁבַּ֥ר לָ/אָֽרֶץ

O my threshing and the corne of my floore: that which I haue heard of the LORD of hostes the God of Israel, haue I declared vnto you.

GenevaO my threshing, and the corne of my floore. That which I haue heard of the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, haue I shewed vnto you.

מְדֻשָׁתִ֖/י וּ/בֶן גָּרְנִ֑/י אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי מֵ/אֵ֨ת יְהוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הִגַּ֥דְתִּי לָ/כֶֽם

¶ The burden of Dumah. Hee calleth to me out of Seir: Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

מַשָּׂ֖א דּוּמָ֑ה אֵלַ/י֙ קֹרֵ֣א מִ/שֵּׂעִ֔יר שֹׁמֵר֙ מַה מִ/לַּ֔יְלָה שֹׁמֵ֖ר מַה מִ/לֵּֽיל

The watchman sayd; The morning commeth, and also the night: if yee will enquire, enquire yee: returne, come.

GenevaThe watchman saide, The morning commeth, and also the night. If yee will aske, enquire: returne and come.

אָמַ֣ר שֹׁמֵ֔ר אָתָ֥ה בֹ֖קֶר וְ/גַם לָ֑יְלָה אִם תִּבְעָי֥וּ/ן בְּעָ֖יוּ שֻׁ֥בוּ אֵתָֽיוּ

¶ The burden vpon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall yee lodge, O yee trauelling companies of Dedanim.

GenevaThe burden against Arabia. In the forest of Arabia shall yee tarie all night, euen in the waies of Dedanim.

מַשָּׂ֖א בַּ/עְרָ֑ב בַּ/יַּ֤עַר בַּ/עְרַב֙ תָּלִ֔ינוּ אֹֽרְח֖וֹת דְּדָנִֽים

The inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty, they preuented with their bread him that fled.

GenevaO inhabitants of the lande of Tema, bring foorth water to meete the thirstie, and preuent him that fleeth with his bread.

לִ/קְרַ֥את צָמֵ֖א הֵתָ֣יוּ מָ֑יִם יֹשְׁבֵי֙ אֶ֣רֶץ תֵּימָ֔א בְּ/לַחְמ֖/וֹ קִדְּמ֥וּ נֹדֵֽד

For they fled from the swords, from the drawen sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grieuousnesse of warre.

GenevaFor they flee from the drawen swords, euen from the drawen sword, and from the bent bowe, and from the grieuousnesse of warre.

כִּֽי מִ/פְּנֵ֥י חֲרָב֖וֹת נָדָ֑דוּ מִ/פְּנֵ֣י חֶ֣רֶב נְטוּשָׁ֗ה וּ/מִ/פְּנֵי֙ קֶ֣שֶׁת דְּרוּכָ֔ה וּ/מִ/פְּנֵ֖י כֹּ֥בֶד מִלְחָמָֽה

For thus hath the Lord sayd vnto me: Within a yeere, according to the yeeres of an hireling, and all the glory of Kedar shall faile.

כִּי כֹ֛ה אָמַ֥ר אֲדֹנָ֖/י אֵלָ֑/י בְּ/ע֤וֹד שָׁנָה֙ כִּ/שְׁנֵ֣י שָׂכִ֔יר וְ/כָלָ֖ה כָּל כְּב֥וֹד קֵדָֽר

And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar shalbe diminished: for the LORD God of Israel hath spoken it.

GenevaAnd the residue of the nomber of ye strong archers of the sonnes of Kedar shall be fewe: for the Lord God of Israel hath spoken it.

וּ/שְׁאָ֧ר מִסְפַּר קֶ֛שֶׁת גִּבּוֹרֵ֥י בְנֵֽי קֵדָ֖ר יִמְעָ֑טוּ כִּ֛י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל דִּבֵּֽר
